Tina (i just took my sleep meds pls tell me if i got her name wrong) just accepted it and decided she would just enjoy the time she has with her pokemon even if it was cut short in a really bad way, but Paulo did not accept it. paulo getting ripped away from the dratini traumatized him, it screwed up his attachment to his pokemon and taught him that being weak only invites bad things into his life. being weak means losing your pokemon. as a result he doesn't see the point in being attached to weak pokemon. he does hate the evil in this world. that's his whole thing. but there's a lot more going on under the surface and it's really interesting to me.

don't mistake me for saying he doesn't care about his Pokemon. he does care for his pokemon, he freaked out when his Rockruff started attacking Ghetsis over and over without any self preservation instincts. i forgot when or who said this, but someone pointed out that Paulo still cares for Rockruff even when he says he doesn't, and Paulo got mad and doubled down, which to me suggests that his attachment to a seemingly weak pokemon is something he doesn't like.. when the Rockruff disappeared, seemingly blown to bits by Kyurem, he seemed to instantly stop caring about it, which to me seems like a trauma response to stop himself from getting hurt.
