Deleted the message, did you figure it out?

@safe fox i thought i did, had the wrong motor selected. but its still over extruding

safe fox
#

if you ask for 100mm to be extruded, how much actually goes?

granite crown
#
  1. so i think its got to be slicer i've switch to a .6mm nozzle i'm using orca i've changed the nozzle size and the various line widths and layer height
#

i've tried cura and still getting what looks like over extrusion

safe fox
#

That would be the next quesion, why do you think it's over extruding?

#

If you get 100 when you ask for 100...

granite crown
#

First layer looks perfect

#

Second layer is lumpy and messy and you can hear the nozzle hitting it and sometimes it causes layer shift

safe fox
#

alright, yeah I agree something is up with the slicer

#

might not be rising enough? If you increase layer height further does it improve?

#

or what filament diameter is set in the slicer?

#

also, is that PLA?

granite crown
#

1.75mm for the filament diameter. layer height doesn't seem to make much difference pla+

safe fox
#

White can be tricker, try slowing down?

#

did you mess with flow rates or anything?

#

googling around, seems like one cause can be flow too high, then you "fix" that by upping the z-offset to get the first layer looking good, but then the second layer is all fucked cause the flow is too much

granite crown
#

Nah not changed flow rate, literally clean install of the slicer as I thought one of my old configs might have been giving me the issue. Only thing I've changed is the ratios version 2.1 and the .6mm nozzle. If I can't figure it out I'll switch back to the .4mm

safe fox
#

switching back to .4 would at least rule some things out

granite crown
#

Switching to .4 didn't help I'm gonna try and print a verticle tower that should be 10mm and then measure it, I wonder if the z steps are out

safe fox
#

ooh, could be

granite crown
#

so just printed an object, should have been 8mm, came out just over 4mm, my motors are correct though ldo 42sth48-2504ac are what i have and what i have selected. so im stumped

safe fox
#

triple check your z couplers are tight

#

and then post your printer.cfg

granite crown
#

i have a new set of z screws from rat rig. i'll check that they are and fit them and change my config if needed

safe fox
#

yeah, check the thread pitch. This line in the cfg gives me hope that that's all it is
rotation_distance: 8 # 4 for TR8*4 lead screws

granite crown
#

yrah i saw that line. i've changed it and running another print

safe fox
#

you changed it for all 3 Z right? ๐Ÿ˜„

granite crown
#

haha yes, already im feeing confident with this change. i think when using the default set up for the ratrig 3.1 vcore this needs to be amended in the auto config

#

thank you for your help

safe fox
#

no worries. I have no idea what threaded rod is standard with the 3.1, nor if it is selectable in the configurator. Haven't upgraded to RatOS 2.1 yet

granite crown
#

its not selectable, you just select your machine

#

@cold cobalt hey, spotted a minor issue with ratos 2.1 it defaults the leadscrew to 8 when you select ratrig vcore 3.1, is there a way to have this auto change to leadscrew 4. or have something in the instructions to tell you to remember to check- again great work.

You can check the top of RatOS.cfg, it'll say which printer the config was generated for.
