I've been debating which one I should get and I don't really know the difference other than the more expensive one being a bit bigger and brighter.

Quick question, I’m trying to game at 4K60 on my monitor while recording at 1080p60 through my elgato 60 S, but every time I connect everything my monitor ends up with worse quality than what the elgato is outputting on my pc

I hear a splitter might help, but some people are saying that the elgato may not recognize a splitter

So your TV or monitor gets a full HD image instead of 4K, a quarter of the resolution

If you are using a 4k60 or any 120hz compatible card and you cannot get MW2 beta to run in 120hz. Download Fortnite, force fortnite into 120hz in the game settings then switch to MW2 via the PS5 home menu

Great work around, I'm not sure how much of a "bug" this may be with the Elgato cards, however, I know Sony allows developers to handle the output formats on a per game basis vs xbox which is universal.

Sounds very much like an issue with the game vs the card which is totally to be expected with a beta. It's certainly something to note though.

for me it comes down to how it is build.

The Formfactor plays a crucial role in this. Since it is a USB micrphone it can't be plugged into an AMP or an Interface, that forces the elgato to put the amp directly into the microphones circutry. This in turn kind of prohibits them from using a dynamic mic capsule. Being forced to use a condenser mic capsule means that it is far more susceptible to background noise and reverb from untreated rooms. The Software might be amazing, the sound outside of a professional studio environement is not.

tl:dr Condenser Microphones are a bad choice for 99% of streamers.

while you can get a decent Interface + dynamic mic combo for the same price or cheaper

it's preference. Some use XLR mics, and some use USB mics. Ether one Wave:3, or Wave XLR, with an XLR mic if you have one are great. Just because one user is able to use an XLR doesn't mean you need to go out and buy one. Not everyone can afford XLR, or on a camera, DSLR. Elgato has made budget friendly devices, but if over time, if you see yourself moving more than just a wave:3 then upgrade. For now a wave:3 and a Facecam are a perfect combo.

Plus VST's are pretty awesome to use with Wave Link.

I’m not going to start swinging ban hammers during a dispute (I will clean up chat a bit tho), but I’d like to give everyone a chance to contribute positively to the community

Just to return to the original topic. Many people, especially people just starting out on social media get lost in details that don't matter and won't help them improve. You don't have to measure yourself against other people. You should compare to yourself and aim to become better day by day.

With that being said, many things like the keylights, have a nice feature set if you have a well established channel. But just starting out, you will achieve 99% of the quality with cheap 10 dollar lights.

On the Microphone matter, I wrote a long post on why condenser micophones are not really that great of an option when most people stream from their homes. Condenser microphones are great at picking up details, but that also means they will pick up details of the room. That means, they are quite sensitive on reverb, computer noises, and background noises in general. That is why I recommend, to not go with them. Dynamic Microphones have been around for decades and are of great quality for a great price. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on an SM7B, when an SM57 with a pop filter or SM58 will sound very similar. The cheapest option I recommend is a UMC22 paired with XM8500. Only 70 Dollars and you can't go wrong with that. Spend the extra money you have on other things, like room treatment. Which will ultimately give you a bigger boost in audio quality.

Regarding cameras: I think, for streams, the Elgato Facecam is a great option, even if on the more pricey side. I use one myself. If you need to go cheaper, a C920 is probably your best option. For Youtube, where you can have very high resolutions and bitrates, or on content where the camera feed covers most of the screen, I would go for a DSLR camera. Doesn't need to be the most expensive one out there, a used one will do, if you do your research on what to look out for when buying used cameras.

Streamdeck: Can't go wrong with that. Using one myself, everything works fine and I was very happy when I noticed that the streamdeck software is compatible with the macro keys on my K100.

On capture cards I have no expertise. Never used one myself.

Mic arm: A 30 dollar arm is more than enough for most applications. unless you are running some insanely heavy microphones or are going for the aesthetics.

oh yeah, EQ can make a lot for a micophone. That is why I also recommended a cheaper one. the XM8500 is 20 dollars, it is hard to find something of that build quality for cheaper 🙂

Oh yeah I saw that. In my opinion it is more of a visual mod than a functional one. In its core it is not an SM7, it doesn't have that echo-chamber or the roll off.

but it can look nice

and helps you keep enough distance to the capsule to combat proximity effect

The capsule in the SM57 and SM58 and SM7 Beta is very very similar so it's close enough for very little cost 🙂

I'm using a AudioTechnica AT2020 XLR, I've had it for many years now, had a Behringer UMC22 at first, then Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen1 and then Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 Gen3, but I also play guitar, bass etc so I use more inputs and outputs

If anyone has used Logitech before and wants to give a comparison to help Daffi out, feel free! I personally used to use C920 I think? It's been a while, but upgraded to Facecam a long while ago!

I love my Facecam because it makes my camera so crisp and clear! Favorite part is the software that comes with it, Camera Hub! You can adjust the contrast, saturation, exposure, and much more. Just note though, any webcam requires you to have good lighting in order to make the best out of your webcam.

I use my Facecam in all of the Elgato streams on twitch.tv/Elgato if you want to see the quality live!

If your asking me I do both, I mostly upload to Youtube, my first stream on youtube there were 0 viewers but over on twitch I grew faster there for some reason. I can say your personality and the games play has a lot to do with it but the key thing is being consistent with it.

Honestly, I started with multi-streaming. It took a while to find a platform I felt was healthy, and not toxic. Once I found where I was happy, I shortly became an affiliate with Twitch. As for YouTube, I use it to save my VOD’s for those streams I want to keep. As for the other YouTube Channel, that’s for my creative content, and How To’s! Usually help others who’ve struggled with different things that makes things easier. You’ll get views for those who value your content. I always ask myself, what content do I want to make, what value do I bring, and am I having fun. The views usually come after that.

I suggest trying both out at first! Just to mainly see which platform you like better and the pros and cons of each one.

Also streaming can be for fun or for a career! It depends on how you want to go about it. There's no right or wrong. Just more of a, if you're looking to go into Twitch as a career it will be a lot of hard work and will take time to grow a community.

If you're just streaming for fun, then play the games you want, stream on whichever platform you prefer, etc! :D
