Yeah, error on the site. Grab it from the Faceam Mk1 link - it's the same program.

#

I'll send a message to someone to check on the site in the meantime.

Hope I'm in the right channel for this. I read that the Facecam MK2 can do PTZ using the stream deck, but only with a 20xx Nvidia card or better. My card is the RTX 3060, will it work with those features? Again, if this is in the wrong spot, I apologize

Can you tell me what makes Mk2 better than Neo spec-wise?

gray tinsel
#

uncompressed formats like NV12, YUY2. Wider field of view. Support for 120 fps in 720p mode. (based on that I'd also guess HDR mode on the Neo is probably only 30 fps, but I'd need to see the full specs first).

#

There'll probably be a bunch of videos comparing them all soon, now that embargo on the press kits is lifted

waxen silo
#

aweesome, I just got a mk2 and love it, but was curious as to the spec difference (plus the neo price point is pretty killer)

I dont even have discord canary open and the app tells me that the cam is used by the app, what can i do?

gray tinsel
#

Restart the PC to force it to reset all the hooks to your camera. Either the app didn't release the camera correctly when it was done, or it's running in the background using it. If that still doesn't play nice, change Discord's default camera - I'd suggest setting it to the Elgato Virtual Camera so it can still use the camera but won't get in the way of camera hub

So - anyone with FaceCam Mk2 or Pro konw how the 120fps works? What's it good for? If you wanted to enable "slo-mo" playback, how does that operate?

buoyant cape
# waxen silo So - anyone with FaceCam Mk2 or Pro konw how the 120fps works? What's it good fo...

120fps is a bit of a byproduct of how Facecam MK2's HDR works. HDR in most cameras works by using two exposures. One over exposed, one under exposed, and then merging them. This has the issue of the framerate being halved. To achieve 60fps, we engineered the camera to operate at 120fps internally so that with HDR, it's still 60 to the resulting software.

It's unlikely to be a killer feature for too many people. But a simple way to get it working is to use OBS, and set the Resolution/FPS type to custom in the properites of the camera. Set resolution to 1280x720 and then FPS to 120 or highest.

Then make sure your OBS Canvas is set to 120 in OBS Settings > Video tab

#

Then you'd take your 720p120 fps video and slow it down in editing software.

Does anybody know how to change the Epocam video processing GPU? I'm trying to use my integrated graphics instead of my GPU to process the video but the article Elgato has isn't working for me. My main issue is when I am playing a game and have Epocam running for my facecam on Streamlabs and Camera Hub, it starts to lag / stutter extremely bad especially when running a high end title.

wicked breach
#

hello so my issue I'm having is with the Elgato Camlink 4k. So I bought a renewed Elgato Camlink 4k from amazon about two days ago. I am currently trying to use the Elgato Camlink and pair it up with my panasonic lumix g85. I checked the compatibility options and the lumix g85 works with the Elgato Camlink 4k. Also for additional information the lumix g85 takes only a micro hdmi. So I bought a micro hdmi to and hdmi wire that is 10ft. I tried putting them together in my pc to use for a webcam and it didn't not work. The software would say there is no signal and my camera LCD screen will be black and turns on for a second and turns back to completely black every few other seconds. But as soon as I unplug the micro hdmi out of my camera my LCD screen on my camera is completely fine and doesn't turn off anymore. Note also every time I plug my Elgato Camlink into my pc I see the light blinks twice and then the light is gone. I don't know if that light is suppose to be always constantly on just wanted to know. Also to add I read on the Elgato website too that for ideal length for capture cards etc is about 6.56 ft somewhere around there. So then I bought a new micro hdmi wire that is 6ft and measured it and it is exactly 6ft. Then I retried connecting everything to my pc again but to no success the same issues occurred. Also if you are curious if I have a clean hdmi output on my lumix g85 yes I do. I watched multiple videos on how to do it on the g85 and made sure it was turned off and double check that it was turned off. So I don't really know what the issue is here wither if its the camlink or the micro hdmi wire because my camera is fine and I've been owning it for a lot longer than any of the other items and had zero issues with it. Hopefully you can see why this can be a bit frustrating for me so hopefully I can get some type of help on this.

What shows up if you open it with Camera Hub instead? It's possible some other app is getting control of the cam link before OBS - only one thing can use it at a time. Camera Hub can usually tell you if something else is using it

That would also explain what unplugging it and plugging it back in works - the disconnect forces the first app using it to let go

Not the greatest picture! Same set up as you - standing desk. Think you'll struggle to attach it to a monitor. Mine is very heavy with a Sony ZV-E10 and Sigma 16mm lens. I am using a Small Rig Magic Arm clamped to the monitor stand. Then I can fully adjust the position/height/angle of the prompter. I have also added a quick release tripod mount so I can easily get the whole prompter (camera and all) off if I do need it elsewhere or to change the lens without having to adjust the whole arm again! This set up allows it to "float" just above the monitor and makes it easy to adjust the angle!

Hi everyone. Every day when I start my computer, my Facecam Pro starts with an amber light. The only fix is to unplug it and plug it back in again. It is plugged directly into the PC's USB port, and not via a hub. Most of the time it resets and it's good to go - but I'm unsure why this is happening? I had this same camera on a previous PC, and it worked flawlessly, so I doubt it is the camera itself. I have the latest Camera Hub and latest firmware installed, and my Windows and drivers, etc are all up to date too. This has been happening since I built my new PC, which has Win 11 on it as a fresh install. Grateful for any tips that might help me solve it, thanks.

Note Rule 1 on the server "1. Do not @(ping) administrators."
If you're having issues with the camera, try it in a different port. Your USB bus on that USB controller or internal root hub (the hub on the motherboard) might be saturated by other devices when the system first starts which would prevent the camera from getting a data connection.

#

Amber light is usually power but not data connection though.

azure stag
#

well I have an issue only with OBS where i have to unplug the usb cable for the Elgato facecam mk.2 change camera source then switch it back in OBS to have the camera work. I'm actually reviewing the product for a website and I would like to not have that complaint

#

is that more of an OBS issue? or is it a known issue with the camera?

gray tinsel
#

Are you running Camera Hub at the same time? most common issue that a disconnect would handle is that only one app can access the camera at a time. If you have Camera Hub open at the same time, and are not using it with the Elgato Virtual Camera, then make sure to turn off preview in Camera Hub (eye in the very bottom right)

#

Similar issue crop up if something like Teams or Discord is incorrectly using your camera as a default and not letting it go like it should.

azure stag
#

i have no issues using any other program

#

does this mean it's 'open'?

gray tinsel
#

It means it's available in any case - easiest way to check if that's your issue is to turn off preview to be safe. If issue goes away we know that was what was hooking it (though in that case it should in theory hook it for any other app that's not accessing the camera thorugh the Eglato Virtual Camera - keep in mind that if you want to use the effects, the correct source would be the virtual camera output, not the raw feed)

azure stag
#

ok, ill check that out. Thank you so much

gray tinsel
#

Good luck with it!

azure stag
gray tinsel
#

If any program had the camera in use when OBS was initializing, you'd have to switch the source off and on agian (by changing it like you did) to get it to re-init that device. You mentioned testing it with other programs earlier - were any of them open when you launched OBS? If it's working in other apps, there's no reason it shouldn't work in OBS since they're all calling it via UVC drivers, unless it's still hooked by something else.

#

Does it work as expected if you use the Virtual Camera from Camera Hub instead of calling the camera directly?

azure stag
#

nope, the light isnt on prior to opening OBS

gray tinsel
#

Are there any other capture devices on the same USB bus? Unlike many apps OBS will initalize them all on launch - there are instances where having a USB capture card and a HD USB camera on the same USB 3.x root hub or controller can overload it (data bandwidth wise) and prevent one of the devices from working initially. This is increasingly common when working with the uncompressed video formats (eg YUY2 instead of MJPG)

azure stag
#

not currently connected

#

would it have anything to do with the virtual camera being installed?

gray tinsel
#

The Virtual Camera installs with Camera Hub - should be fine, that's how it's intended to be used if you want to use the various effects (assuming you have an NVidia GPU).

#

If the Virtual Camera itself were crashing I'd log a request with support

#

But this sounds like something is blocking OBS's initial request to the camera

azure stag
#

yeah i do, it does actually come up when i select virtual camera as a source, but it doesnt move

gray tinsel

Does the OBS log show any errors related to it?

#

I vaguely recall something about some configurations needing to manually set the resolution in OBS in certain issues. Trying to remember where I overheard that and make sure it was Facecam Mk2.

#

yeah. 540p sounds familiar. Try setting a custom resolution in the source

azure stag
#

so what should i set it as?

gray tinsel
#

1920x1080 would be the full resolution

azure stag
#

so thats all i need to change?

gray tinsel
#

I think the original issue I recall was that OBS defaults it to 540 for some reason - but it's possible that's affecting OBS loading it up too

#

You'll have to give it a shot but it's possible - I can't replicate the issue you're getting on my own setup, so hopefully that's all it is

azure stag
#

its just so weird, if i DC the USB then change source to something different then back again, it works lol

gray tinsel
#

Yeah - that's usually only an issue if something else is making calls to the camera. Disconnecting it forces the offending app to let it go, and you can usually get it up in OBS before it hooks it again

azure stag
#

ok, so i just changed to virtual camera and its not frozen now.....

gray tinsel
#

If this is Win 11 you might want to check in the privacy settings under the camera and see what apps are listed as recently using cameras.

#

Good to know - the virtual camera might have been balking at OBS trying to run the camera in 540p mode

#

I totally forgot about OBS preferring to run it in 540 on some setups for some reason sorry.

azure stag
#

this is really weird

#

so when ive been streaming its been at 540p?

gray tinsel
#

Only the Facecam.

#

For some reason it chooses that one as default in some setups - setting it manually overrides the automatic mode.

#

So we can run it in full 1080p

#

Just something with OBS detecting the modes oddly

#

Or choosing them oddly rather

azure stag
#

that makes it awkward now lol. I just set up a firtical camera screen the other night and its perfect. Changing it to the 1080p screen ruines it all

gray tinsel
#

since it still sees the other modes

#

hm

#

reszied it in your canvas I take it?

azure stag
#

yeah

#

so now lentgh wise its all out

gray tinsel
#

weird - 960x540 should still be a 16:9 aspect ratio

#

So if it reset on the canvas it should have rest both width and height

#

At least it should be fairly easy to select the source then drag it back into position on the canvas

azure stag
#

i do, but it has a frame around it, when i just resize it, it doesnt fit

#

and if i try to make it fit, it looks stretched

gray tinsel
#

That's unusual - the resolution is 1920x1080 right? That's a straight doubling of the 540p resolution of 960x540p. If it fit before it should still fit when scaled back down

azure stag
#

maybe i need to resize the frame once the camera is done, then resize them both together

gray tinsel
#

Though if it's lower than the frame on the sources list it should probably clip off some of the edges to fit too - if you've been moving it around make sure it's on the right layer there

#

Maybe. OBS scene composition can be a headache

azure stag
#

doesnt seem to work.....fkn

gray tinsel
#

I'm not sure how it would have gone off aspect ratio before. Did you clip it down instead of resizing by holding Alt while moving the frame?

#

Alt will let you crop the image to fit instead of resizing

azure stag
#

yeah i did crop it before

gray tinsel
#

Ah, that'd probably get reset with the resolution change, back to the full frame. That'd likely explain why it got wider

azure stag
#

ok, i fixed it all, set the resolution to 1080, still doesnt load up the camera on start up

gray tinsel
#

And it works for every other app but OBS? Short of readding the source I'm not sure what would fix that. If it's working in it apps that generally indicates the hardware is fine, and it uses the standard UVC driver from your OS, so it shouldn't be a driver issue. Are you loading the raw camera now or the virtual feed?

azure stag
#

I FIXED IT

azure stag
#

removed that and now theres no conflict

gray tinsel
#

Ah! Yeah, Nvidia broadcast hooking it when OBS is open makes sense

Glad you got it sorted out!

Hi! Quick question regarding camera hub and epoccam!

I'm trying to use my iphone as a camera in portrait mode, but there's no way to get full 1080p quality from the elgato virtual camera while trying to use epoccam vertically.

Rotating the phone into portrait mode makes the phone camera occupy the center strip of the 1080p canvas and leaving black bars on either side, meaning I'm not getting full quality when I scale the elgato virtual camera up to fill the vertical canvas.

It's important for the setup to keep the phone itself oriented vertically in portrait mode. So my question is, is there a way to either lock the app into full screen horizontal or allow the elgato virtual camera to output 1080x1920 instead of 1920x1080 so we can get full HD quality from our vertical phone cameras?

Thanks for any help! And if its not possible, is there a place I can send a message to to request this feature and have a chance at maybe getting this feature on the right person's radar?

Device: Elgato Prompter
Software & Version: Newest
Windows/Mac Version: Windows
Mobile App/Device: None
Question/Issue: Is there a way to control the Prompter wirelessly? Like a teleprompter remote? (other than using the iOS app's free/android app paid)
The goal is to be able to pause, rewind, fast forward, skip back/forward from a remote
e.g. does the prompter software work with existing remotes, or presenter remotes, or even a media remote with play/pause ff/rw buttons?

I'm considering changing my cameras. However, I have a Cam Link Pro currently which takes HDMI inputs. The Camlink Pro appears to be just a USB output.

Is there some other way to link 2+ Elgato facecams? Or a way to make them work with the Cam Link Pro?

gray tinsel
#

I think there's a typo there - if you mean Facecam Pro is USB output then, yes, it's USB 3.0 (by default I believe it ships with a USB-C to USB-C cable but also works with a USB-A to USB-C).
That said they are USB cameras specifically - they will not work with HDMI input on Cam Link Pro as they do not need a capture device to connect to a computer, just a free USB port.

#

(keep in mind that your PC may have limited USB bandwidth - if it's limited to 5Gbps USB 3.0, you should check that you have more than one USB Root Hub on the motherboard - see: https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042824631-Two-Elgato-USB-3-0-Devices-on-one-Computer-Two-USB-3-0-Root-Hubs-Needed )

Amber light genrally means it's getting power but not data. This can happen sometimes if there's too much on a given USB controller and things take too long for everything to connect and the camera assumes no connection (or during power on all the devices coming on at once takes too much power from the controller).
It can also happen if your motherboard drivers or BIOS are out of date, which you seem to have already gone through.
Next time if happens you can try using something like USB Tree Viewer (https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html) to see if it can give you more insight into what's going on. It should show a summary section like this https://imgur.com/a/elgato-4k-x-good-connection-10gbps-wlZJB4t (that's a capture card but I don't have a Face Cam Pro to get a shot of here). all three of those speeds should be at least SuperSpeed - if not the camera isn't getting a full speed connection while the computer boots up, and onlly gets it when you reconnect things after Windows is up and running. In that case try turning off fast boot or similar options in your BIOS.

Yes, if the image is too bright the light bleeds through the glass and then reflects on the inside. It's not possible to make a perfect mirror that only reflects the image for you and allows light to reach the camera. It's a mix to allow both to work.

So keeping the display as dark as you can while still seeing everything fine is best.

Hi guys, I have the fowolling problem; Camera Hub is not being used (icon is in tray, but no active window), and the CPU and Memory used by the process is way too high.
This is while idle, no webcam use. It also seems to be using these 4 cores with notable spikes that makes the fans ramp up and its relly annoying, until I close the background task. I need the Elgato Virtual Camera for my video calls so it's an app that I constantly rely on.
It looks like a memory leak problem on Elgato's side, and for more than a year people have been complaining about it (look up on reddit/youtube) with no action taken apparently.
Is there something we can do from the user perspective? Something that fixes or alleviates the problem? Right now the only "solution" is to force close the program and start it again until it starts consuming resources again.

gray tinsel
#

Is the Camera Hub running in the background if you check Task Manager? Camera Hub keeps background services like the virtual camera running even when the main window isn't open, and the video isn't being pulled, so you're not stuck waiting on the service to restart when you do need it

#

The CPU spike looks odd unless that's some sort of efficency core, or one that's ramped down in speed due to a light load.

dense night
# gray tinsel The CPU spike looks odd unless that's some sort of efficency core, or one that's...

Ryzen CPUs dont have efficiency cores, and I have them setup for performance. In my setup they don't ramp down significantly on light load, they stay at a minimum of 4,2Ghz and ramp to 5,3Ghz or more if able.
The first screenshot shows the task manager, the CPU and Memory consumption is not normal while not using the camera. I don't mind the memory consumption but the CPU is what grinds my gears. If I kill the process I am back to normal ofc. If I open camera hub again (to be able to use virtual camera), after a while its again consuming a lot of resources.
To be clear, this is a proper desktop workstation and everything is clean and well optimized (no malware, no bloatware,...). I don't have any kind of performance issues with other software.

gray tinsel
#

Are there any video effects running that would keep the NVidia Video Effects SDK running idle with the virtual camera? This might be a better question for #official-tech-support . I'm assuming it's all up to date on 1.10.0 as well? I can't reproduce this on my setup so I'm drawing a blank at the moment

gray tinsel
#

Might be worth turning the effects off as a test and see if the CPU still spikes whele everything runs in the background, since that runs inside the camera hub process iirc. If I think of anything else that could be causing spikes I'll drop it in here though

Just to let you know, I was in the middle of sending a support query to Elgato when I found a solution! On my Macbook, if I put an app on the monitor (and as mentioned it obliterates the script) but then use CMD-Tab to cycle through the apps, I can actually get the text to the front of the other apps! Interestingly this doesn't work if I click the app outside of the Prompter screen (for example Camera Hub if it's on another monitor - or even the app itself if it's behind the script), but the cycling shortcut does work. That will do for me 🙂 Thaks for trying to help.

Is the Elgato Prompter worth it?

deep owl
# strong cargo Hi! <:bunnywave:977035641546215434> I am considering getting the Elgato Teleprom...

Hi @strong cargo!

You asked for personal experiences with the Prompter -- I ordered it in during the first wave as soon as I saw the early reviews. I've been using it almost every day for the past 7 months so I have a lot to say on the subject.

The TL;DR is this:

  1. On the content creation side, it's an absolutely amazing thing to work with. Put the screen in teleprompter mode, black background, turn down the brightness, and boom -- if you put it side by side with a recording without a prompter, you'll see a bit of a difference in brightness, but nothing major and especially nothing you wouldn't be able to counterbalance by tweaking your lighting and/or camera settings a bit.
I mean, I'm not even using this thing with a DSLR but with the Facecam (MK.1 previously, now MK.2) and I get pristine 1080p quality video in daylight and still more than serviceable when it's darker in the rather large room I'm sitting in (and so it's not evenly lit).
  2. On the video call side, I sit in a lot of committee meetings for the British health care system and have lots of 1:1 calls with clients and collaborators on topics of mental health and neurodivergence. In these settings, it's such a restoration of the human connection element of a video call to be able to directly look at the person I'm speaking to. I can focus on them, and they feel more like they're in a conversation rather than watching someone talk at them while looking off screen at a weird angle.
  3. When not using it for either of these, it's great as a small monitor to throw your status/preview stuff on.
  4. The synergy with the Stream Deck ecosystem is great.
  5. It's the only teleprompter with a built-in dyslexia-friendly font (courtesy of me, and thanks to Elgato for onboarding that idea during the beta phase)
deep owl
# strong cargo Hi! <:bunnywave:977035641546215434> I am considering getting the Elgato Teleprom...

Not knowing your background with such devices, here's my history with similar teleprompters: I was one of the backers of the original Parrot teleprompter back in 2013 (or earlier, I forget). At the time, it was the first device that allowed you to read from the prompter while keeping eye contact with the lens. It was revolutionary, and I used it for years first with my 600D and then when I upgraded to a 70D, with a Sigma 18-35mm plopped on it.
The technology was bought by Padcaster, but then they got the original inventor back on the project to release a new Parrot "Pro" version. I was a first-day backer but I wish I wasn't. They lost all my trust through a horrible experience, with delays and extra costs to the point that by the time I got my device, it was cheaper on Amazon than my "super early bird exclusive" payment, not counting significant customs and shipping fees. Worse, in ten years, the once industry leader fell completely behind, with minimal improvement on the hardware, and absolutely no improvement on the clunky, basic software.
To use the Parrot today, you still have to dedicate a phone screen to project the text, while having to use sliders on the same screen to adjust text size, with minimal font choices, importing your scripts one by one from plain text files you have to get on the phone first. You operate the thing through an afterthought of an entry-level bluetooth remote, if and when it works.

Final thoughts: As an ADHD person with bonus Dyslexia, I need my work technology to be as accessible as possible with as few hoops to jump through to use it. Or else I won't be able to use it.
So when I saw the Elgato Prompter even as a preview, I saw it solved all the problems I had with the Parrot. By connecting direct through USB, acting as an extra monitor when I'm not using it as a teleprompter, the best prompter software I've ever used, and the screen built into the thing, for less money than the Parrot cost on its own, it was an amazing offer even at full price.
As it's meant to be used on a desk, the 9" screen is more than fine when using it as a prompter. Only when I'm using it as a monitor do I wish it was 10" or 11".

Hope that helps you in your decision. 🙂 Feel free to send me a DM if you have other questions!

Thank you so much for your well thought out and nicely articulated response! That did help A LOT! I currently have little experience with teleprompters, but have been moving into a videography side of things where it would be super beneficial to have a prompter at the ready for people I work with! So thank you for providing extra information pertaining to a similar product experience you had as well as what your personal experience with the Elgato prompter is! I appreciate your time a lot! love

Hi. Just got a brand new Mk2 Facecam. I think I may have a duff one. Picture is like 1 frame when it feels like it, and washed out, bad contrast. I've updated S/W, F/W. Will double check but it is showing as being connected to a USB3 port. Might not have had the smoothest travel in transit but there's no physical damage to the packaging or camera. Should I just go to Elgato and raise a support ticket?

My original Facecam still runs fine when I plug that back in

Hello, all! I did a search and couldn't find anything, so I apologize if this has been visited already. My Prompter plug-in for Stream Deck has a power option, to power down the display, but I'm unable to get it to work. All software is updated, machine restarted repeatedly, still no luck. Is this a known issue, or does anyone have any tips for how to get this to work? Thanks in advance!

# pseudo rune Hi. Just got a brand new Mk2 Facecam. I think I may have a duff one. Picture ...

If you're already updated the software and firmware, and the original Faceam works there, showing it has enough USB Bandwidth, I'd stry swapping the cable with the original Facecam to see if anything changes and if not reach out to #official-tech-support . The fact the original works in the same setup rules out a lot of troubleshooting - it it did take some knocks on transit it's possible something is wrong witht he sensor connection inside, but if not support may have some other things to try

If there's a public beta on the got it's usually available at https://www.elgato.com/s/beta . Internal betas that aren't public yet, the community help channel wouldn't have info on.

As far as I know those only get handed out by official support, or when the team specifically goes looking for folks to test a specific fix.

Disable Fastboot in your BIOS if it's on. Sometimes a PC boots up with limited USB support until Windows loads - it's possible something with the handoff isn't happening as expected which could result in it needing to be disconnected and reconnected. Likewise check for BIOS updates and updated chipset drivers

If you're not using any of the camera effects, try using it directly in OBS (select the Facecam direclty in the soruce properties) and see if the issue keeps up - that'd help narrow down if it's the camera itself or the app that's freezing.
If you need the Blur Effect you could try NVidia Broadcast to test and see if it still locks up with the NVidia camera.

#

Beyond that make sure youre GPU drivers are up to date and you're using an up to date copy of the NVidia Video Effects SDK that the Virtual Camera would use to apply blur

So I have an elgato facecam and a facecam pro. I’m trying to use the facecam as a front facing cam and the pro for a top down for crafting. I had them both working but the regular facecam keeps shutting down and disappearing as a source. Any help is appreciated very much

gray tinsel
# final carbon So I have an elgato facecam and a facecam pro. I’m trying to use the facecam as ...

How are they connected? If they're on a hub ( Which is not recommended), make sure it's a POWERED hub, or Facecam Pro will take up most of the power from the source port on the PC.
Beyond that you ideally want them on different USB controllers as Facecam Pro in high res mode will use up almost all the USB 3.0 bandwidth a controller can put out. Not ever port on your computer gets it's one 5 Gbps of bandwidth - they're shared through root hubs on your system board that connect back to a USB controller. Depending on the computer you may or may not have more than one. It can also be a pain to figure out what ports go to what controller - but if you put both cameras on one they'll fight for data bandwidth (you may be able to mitigate that by using lower resolutions, but it will depend on the setup). More info here: https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042824631-Two-Elgato-USB-3-0-Devices-on-one-Computer-Two-USB-3-0-Root-Hubs-Needed

You can use a tool like USB Tree Viewer to see how many root hubs and controllers you have and figure out what devices are connected to each one. https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html

final carbon
gray tinsel
#

Keep in mind that even with a powered hub you could still hit that bandwidth limit

#

If it all starts working if you drop the pro down to 720p odds are it's a bandwidth issue

Either switch out got a 10 Gbps USB connection, or run another extension at that point.

Hi! Trying to use Epoccam with camera hub. with works with usb, but not over wifi. is this a known bug?

Streaming with a Elgato Facecam and noticing when playing a game and using the newest OBS with Enhanced Broadcaster, it becomes laggy when OBS is not the focused application (playing the game). When I click back into OBS the camera is fine. Running on a 7800x3d and RTX4070. I have reduced the multitrack vod down to 4 as well. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Running OBS in admin?

gray tinsel
#

Single PC stream? Are you using any effects? the Effects are powered by the NVidia Video Effects SDK, which uses the GPU. If youre game is in focus, it'll have priority and might starve out the effects engine and cause stutter.

#

If that's what's happening you might have to cap the FPS of the game.

#

Or disable the effects

frosty kraken
#

Single pc stream yes, no effects raw camera

gray tinsel
#

Running OBS as admin may help then add that lets out hook into the HAGS (hardware accelerated GPU scheduling) so it doesn't get starved out. Especially if it's not just the camera feed stalling out.

Also if you're using the virtual camera you can try using the raw feed instead (if camera hub is open at the same time, disable the preview by clicking the eye icon on the very bottom right)

frosty kraken
#

I am using the raw feed, and have camera hub closed. I do have HAGS disabled as well but haven't tried with admin

#

Just did a recording running OBS as admin and playing a match (so obs not the focused app) and seems to still be stuttering

frosty kraken

Any other thoughts or suggestions? Feel like I've had nothing but issues with this camera

Is it just the camera that stutters or the whole OBS feed? Is there anything else on the same USB bus like a capture card?

If you're using the camera directly like that instead of using the Elgato Virtual Camera from Camera Hub, that is an issue as only one app can pull the raw video feed at a time (the raw feed also doesn't get the camera hub effects if you wanted to use any of those). You can disable the preview in Camera Hub by clicking the eye icon on the bottom right of the window, which will free it up to be used in other apps while still having Camera Hub open, as well.

Is there a way to use Facecam Pro with the Camlink Pro?
Converter cables? Software?
Mostly asking because I like the fact that I use multiple apps with my camera plugged into the Camlink Pro. But I'm looking at using a couple of Facecams and I can find anything showing a way for these devices to work together.

gray tinsel
# brittle bronze Is there a way to use Facecam Pro with the Camlink Pro? Converter cables? Softwa...

No.
Cam Link Pro is for HDMI connections that normally can't be input into a PC and converts a continuous stream of video, it also doesn't transfer power.
FaceCam is direct USB and goes right to the PC with no additional capture hardware needed, and operates as a USB client/host connection going both ways, which also provides power.
They're not compatible protocols, or cables - you'd need a PC for Facecam Pro which could output in HDMI for the Cam Link - at which point why not just use Face Cam Pro with the streaming PC over USB?
Is there a reason you're not kist looking to use the cameras over USB?

brittle bronze
gray tinsel
#

That wasn't quite the question - Facecams don't need the CamLink, I was wondering if you have issues like limited USB that kept you from just using a pair of Facecams over the USB connection?
If you're looking to mix an match the cameras on the CamLink and the Facecams, you can do that just adding the extra sources into OBS or something similar if your app of choice supports it

brittle bronze
#

Otherwise, one of them needs to be turned off or I have to remember to set the non-OBS app to another camera.

#

Or even just the convenience of sometimes leaving an app open and not having to close them to hop onto the other app for a minute that's using the same camera.

#

Admittedly, this isn't a hardcore functionality issue. It's simple one of convenience when working on a lot of things at once. 🙂

Facecam neo just arrived. Camera hub freshly installed and firmware version checked. MacOS 12.7.5
Everything seems to be working right including saving settings to the device, except focus.

Autofocus wobbles all around, looks like it will settle on me, and then decides to focus super far and the whole image is blurry.
Correct focus seems to be 35.
If I set that manually it works, and I save settings. But when I open OBS or anything it will start up blurry just like the focus went all the way out again, even though it’s set manual to 35.
If I open camera hub and trigger the focus it correctly goes to 35 and will stay there.
But this seems to happen every time. Launching an app that uses the camera (including camera hub with preview) focus will go all the way out until I trigger it.
Is there a trick to this? Do I have a bad unit?

#

A friend got one same day and his doesn’t have this issue. Seem auto is fine for him.
He is on a later version of macOS I think.

Hi All... I just got a Prompter... So far I really like it 🙂

Does anyone have a solution for a shorter camera shelf (without sawing it off 🙂 )

I would like to be able to move my desk closer to the wall

Hey guys!
Does anyone in here use EpocCam with an iPhone wirelessly?
I'm trying to set it up in this particular scenario.

My PC has the wireless card turned off, it's connected through a hub to my home WiFi.

I know it can work because I was using this other software "Camo" to do it, and it worked without any setting up required.
I'd rather use EpocCam though (also I just paid for it lol)

But when it did work, it was amazing to use with a SD+

viscid prism
#

I just used it with the USB cable, works perfectly that way

#

I'm sure I'm just missing something to make the two apps (PC and phone) communicate.

#

The other app Camo did it without me doing anything, so I know it's possible

#

But that one is annoying because it kept trying to control my other webcam, I had to manually disable that every time I ran it. So it's unusable.

Ok guys... How does one remove crayon from the lens of a facecam? My 9 year old decided to crayon it up for some reason. 🤬

gray tinsel
#

That's a new one on me. Maybe a paper towel soaked in very hot water to melt the wax and wick it away (make sure to dab, not wipe though). Alternatively if the wax is solid enough it might just flake off with a lint free cloth like a shamwow

sly nimbus
#

Yeah... Not a typical issue. 😅

#

I tried using a soft q-tip to just remove it dry and that didn't work

#

I'm treating it like a camera lens in terms of what I can use

#

Apparently I have 91% isopropyl alcohol that I just found

sly nimbus
#

Ok just gave the isopropyl and a q-tip a go and that seemed to rush pretty well... Just had to have a really light touch

vertical display mode does NOT support full sentences in the prompter.

i need to manually cut off the sentences so they fit in the screen.

It would be amazing if i the software would fit the sentences automatically in the promter in vertical mode ❤️

This is a great suggestion, consider dropping it in #feature-request bro @left hare

So I recently got given an old iPhone 12 Pro and wanted to use it as a 2nd webcam for my streams. The phone connects to the Camera Hub just fine via Wi-Fi but whenever I connect via USB, the software will detect the phone for about 10 seconds, then it'll disconnect and I can't do anything. Any help would be awesome as I did get the pro version of the app and haven't been able to really use it via USB
(Side note, I have no issues using any of this on my laptop, it's just my PC that the issue is happening with)

I've given up with getting this to work via USB

Tho it's not just Camera Hub that DCs, its almost like everything stops seeing the phone, but the phone will still charge and when you go into device manager, it still sees the phone connected.

merry flower

Anyone found/have a good carrying case for the Prompter?

violet hawk
merry flower
violet hawk
#

Me neither but i'd measure several times and cut once ^^

#

probably a lot of extra space to fit objective or cables also depending on size of case you go with 😄

#

I did basically the exact same thing for a hardcase for one of my guitars ages ago, laid the guitar on the foam, scribbled an outline and sharp blade

#

Wasn't exactly pretty but sure saved me like 100bucks than buying a proper case designed for the guitar

sly nimbus
#

Update on crayon... The 91% alcohol removed it but the picture wasn't as crisp anymore. I think it wasn't able to get all the wax off and just... Left residue

#

So, unfortunately, my new facecam is pretty much dead

#

D'oh

gray tinsel
#

I'd check with support though #official-tech-support and see if they have any recommendations. Standard photographic lens cleaner might do the job if there's just a bit of residue left

sly nimbus
#

Yeah, that was what I originally used and it didn't work

#

The crayon wax is tenacious

@gray tinsel to answer your question: the same artefacting happens everywhere, not just in OBS.

gray tinsel
#

Okay that narrows down a few things - but usually that sort of problem works out to be an issue with the HDMI cable or the camlink itself. You happen to have a monitor or TV around that you can plug the camera with that same HDMI cable into to see if the problem follows that or if it stays with the Cam Link?

lost wraith
gray tinsel
#

Yes - we want to make sure the output from the camera and that cable is clear before we spend too much time poking at the link with the card

lost wraith
gray tinsel
#

All good - a lot of people forget it. But that's what a lot of cameras had HDMI for - live previews we abuse for streaming, as well as video playback 🙂

lost wraith
#

I plugged the camera directly into my monitor via HDMI but how do I get it to show? Hmm

gray tinsel
#

The monitor should have buttons for switching the inputs

lost wraith
#

Oh right!

#

OK, just tried and no fragmentation this way!

lost wraith
gray tinsel
#

Good, we can assume cable is good then (that was my main concern, some will degrade with time as things move around).
You'd still need a Cam Link or Captuer Card though (unless the Camera has a direct USB webcam mode). PCs don't have HDMI Inputs by default, which is what Cam Link does.

lost wraith
gray tinsel
#

I'd pop the cam link out of the PC, let it sit about 3 minutes before plugging it back in so it fully discharges and resets, and try the setup again to see if anything changes

If you go into Camera Hub, at the top left where the Device section is, if you click on the little slider bar icon at the top, does it list any firmware updates?

gray tinsel
# lost wraith you mean this?

Not there, no, the setting in the Camera Hub app - will look something like this (though I've got a Facecam there not the Cam Link)

lost wraith
lost wraith
gray tinsel
lost wraith
#

The little slide bar does not show any updates btw.

gray tinsel
#

Good to know

lost wraith
#

The artefacts sadly seem to persist within OBS

gray tinsel
#

Can you share a screenshot of the properties for the Cam Link in OBS? (Windows Key + Shift + S will let you select just part of the screen to take a screenshot from)

#

You might also want to right click on it the cam link and check the filters section to make sure there's no filter stuck in there that's distorting things

gray tinsel
#

Yeah

lost wraith
#

I turned off all filters but the issue persists Sadcat

gray tinsel
#

That's exactly what I expected those settings to look like. Have you restarted the whole PC since this started?

#

You could also try passing it through the Elgato Virtual Camera first - Camera Hub will install that so it should show up in OBS now.

lost wraith
gray tinsel
#

Full shut down though, or just putting it to sleep?

lost wraith
#

Always full shutdown nodders

#

I can try restarting it fully once more now though!

gray tinsel
#

Just to see if it's specifically the raw Cam Link feed OBS is having issues with mostly.

lost wraith
#

Let me restart and give that a try Ok

#

Installing a windows update and will get back to you after the restart peepoSprint

gray tinsel
#

Sounds good

lost wraith
# gray tinsel Sounds good

I changed the camera input within OBS to the virtual camera and that seems to have resolved the issue with the fragmentation!

gray tinsel
#

Yeah - that passes it through Camera Hub first. Means OBS isn't having a good time pulling raw video through the Cam Link for some reaosn

#

It might even fix itself if you switch it back now - or remove the whole Source and add it back

lost wraith
#

There seems to be still a tiny bit remaining but now it's green and a lot less noticable Susge

gray tinsel
#

Huh, no idea why that would shift the colour at all

#

weird

lost wraith
#

As soon as I switch back to the direct Cam Link input, the black fragments come back

gray tinsel
#

Even if you delete the whole thing from your sources list and put it back from scratch?

lost wraith
#

and some green on my arm

lost wraith
gray tinsel
#

You could try adding it again and just clicking the eye on the sources list to hide the first one (you might have to set it to another camera or something first to get it to let you use it). That'd at least see if it fixes the issue or not

lost wraith
#

but honestly, this one is not as desruptive as the previous one - not sure if it's even something we can fix?

gray tinsel
#

Can't say - might be somethign the OBS discord might have some insight on? Since we know it works fine in Camera Hub it's not likely a hardware issue

lost wraith
#

I'm thinking the issue might also be related to camera settings, so I'll play around with it a little!

#

Thank you for your help hug

gray tinsel
#

No problem, good luck with it!

Hey guys, got my new Facecam pro today, tried plugging into my USB-C port and its not being detected. When I plug it into another PC it works, and if I plug my phone into the USB-C port of the not working PC, I can charge and access the files on my phone. Anyone know why the webcam is not being detected??

gray tinsel
uneven zenith
#

its not showing up

gray tinsel
#

Try with the cable you used with the phone - it might not be the right speed, but you know that one works with the port

uneven zenith
#

i used the cable that came with the facecam and it works (to charge and acccess my phone)

gray tinsel
#

This isn't on a hub or anything? And USB Tree Viewer doesn't show anything about unidentified devices when you check?

uneven zenith
#

yeah it only shows up with my mouse and keyboard, unless there is a seperate place i should look for unidentified devices

gray tinsel
#

When you first plug in the camera does it make the USB device connected noise? And does the light show up on the camera (green) for a second or two?

#

Also is the port on the computer USB 3.0 speed or faster? (Most USB type C connectors are but it is possible to have a USB 2.0 one)

uneven zenith
#

doesnt make any connected sound and no light on the camera. The usb-c port is a 3.1 Gen 1 port

gray tinsel
#

Huh, that's throwing me. You know the cable works, you know the camera works on another PC, the port is the right spec and works with other things. . .
If you hook it up on the other PC are there any firmware updates available for the camera in Camera Hub?

uneven zenith
#

nope, its on the latest version

gray tinsel
#

Does a cold reboot of the PC do anything where you leave it shut fully down for 20-30 seconds before powering it back on?

uneven zenith
#

nope, still doesnt show up

#

i previously unplugged the power cable as well

gray tinsel
#

Doesn't show up at all in Windows Device Manager either? Are there any other ports you can use? It'll work in a USB-A port if you have a USB 3.0 speed cable for it

uneven zenith
#

doesnt show up in windows device manager, unless its under the name of another device. I only got 1 usb-c port. I do have an orange usb-c to usb-a cable, but dont think its a 3.0 speed cable, the inside is orange

gray tinsel
#

It might still at least show up with an error on a slower cable - but I'm drawing a blank at the moment here. Might be worth checking with #official-tech-support to see what they say on it.

#

It sounds like some sort of compatibility problem, but I'm not aware of any compatibility issues with Facecam Pro and some USB ports atm

uneven zenith
#

i plugged it in and says its a usb 2.0 connection, if that means anything

#

for the usb-a cable

gray tinsel
#

It does show up though, does it?

uneven zenith
#

yes inside camhub

gray tinsel
#

BUt yeah, it won't work with a USB 2.0 cable - but that means you might be able to get it working with another USB-C to USB-A cable

#

But I'm not sure why it's not working with your USB-C to USB-C

#

I'd check with support on that because odds are it's some sort of niche compatibility problem

#

Since everything works fine on the other PC

uneven zenith
#

alright thanks for your help

gray tinsel
#

No owrries, sorry I don't have a clear answer on what's gonig on there

lost wraith
#

I'm having an issue with the camera hub not showing my camera input through cam link sadE I don't have any other programs using the camera open at the same time, this problem started happening after my PC crashed and I can't seem to get it to work since, despite multiple restarts

Sorry to bother you with this but do you have an idea on how I could resolve the issue @gray tinsel
