Not sure if its noticable, but on clip 1 it feels smoother on the fpsside of things ( not sure how the encoding in discord is when i uploaded the files) but in clip 2 you can slightly see the fps being a bit (slower) ish and in some event it even becomes laggy. and this is when I change the resolution (also goes if I were to change FPS)

#

And this is my video settings in OBS-setting

lone crypt
#

It doesn’t surprise me that you would get good results with the default settings, because it’s just using the video feed as it’s coming in.
The game is 60hz so I don’t think you’re going to learn anything or gain anything from trying to capture 120hz.
If anything this is just a difference in how the two apps handle doubled frames from capturing every game frame twice.

lone crypt
# ember lynx Clip 2 And Princsreen of OBS Setting

However!
I do hear in your OBS videos that you have doubled up the game audio.

Usually this happens because people don’t disable the global audio devices in OBS settings, so the video capture source gets the game audio over hdmi, and then the global device that’s by default capturing your default system audio…. That gets the game audio again a few MS later.
So go ahead and disable the global device to fix that.

#

I’m using an **Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 PCIe capture card to capture from PC to PC (not a console).
Sometimes the image becomes cut and horizontally misaligned in the middle of the screen, like half of the image shifts to the side.

The only way to fix it is unplugging and reconnecting the HDMI cable, but the issue keeps happening.
I already tried different HDMI cables and the problem persists.

ember lynx
#

Oh, I didn't even realise it my OBS had doubled up game audio! Thank you again! The Global Device do you mean as in these settings here?

lone crypt
#

I’m pretty sure that’s what’s happening, and if I looks better anyway…

ember lynx
lone crypt
# ember lynx

That’s the advanced audio panel, where you can see the desktop audio… that’s the global device that is causing the double.

OBS setting > audio

Is where you can enable and assign global audio devices
These are audio sources that are global so they aren’t in a scene.

lone crypt

There have been some funny Nvidia drivers with issues in these apps lately. Could be that. There was also a buggy firmware I think.

But you could try OBS.

lean saddle

And this is the bigger problem

lone crypt

The card can only be adressed by one app at a time. Are you trying to open it in more than one app?

lean saddle

The streaming issue has been resolved, but the Switch problem hasn't. When I play on it, the screen turns purple on my monitor, but not on the Elgato studio app

lone crypt

yeah. I'm not certain if this is a driver issue or firmware issue.... Could even be fixed by changing the EDID setting on the card..... but trying in OBS is a test to see if it looks different there.

So, if I want to stream on Discord for my friends using Elgato 4K S, I can't have it running on Elgato Studio at the same time, but without Elgato Studio, I can't hear anything from the Switch through my headphones. Is there any way to fix this?

past basin
#

I'll have to go back and double check that later as I'll need to test it on a non-nitro account as the option location changes. but in the devices setup, make sure the audio device is set correctly and the stream isn't muted. iirc Discord should let you play the audio whlie you're sharing the card, but the option can be hard to find

lone crypt
# past basin I'll have to go back and double check that later as I'll need to test it on a no...

For non nitro…
It only gives you the option to select audio source if you are streaming a device, not a screen or app.
(As shown above; I’m confirming)

So… to solve the problem of audio needing to come from an app, and then the video isn’t available in discord, you can use a virtual camera…. Which does show up as a “device” in discord. So this should still work.

If elgato studio does a virtual camera you can use that, I’m not sure if it does.
But OBS does. So get the card into OBS as a source, then turn on OBS virtual camera. The tell discord to stream a device < the capture card. Specify the audio device if you want to.

Oh and OBS video capture source will need to be set to “monitor and output” in the advanced audio panel for it to play the capture card audio to your ears.
Choose where discord sends this audio in OBS settings > audio > monitor device.

I think my elgato is messing with my display settings. I just updated my monitor firmware, and afterwards my monitors showed a black screen with only a mouse, and I couldn't do anything. The only fix was unplugging the HDMI cable from elgato to my GPU. When I try to game on the 25 inch mode on my monitor, even if all the monitors are turned off, somehow all my apps are opening on an invisible 2nd monitor and I can't do anything. Until I unplug the HDMI going from elgato to GPU again. Any settings in control panel or something that will stop my elgato from messing with my displays?

When a driver or OS updates causes explorer to fail on startup it's usually a one off

digital whale
# past basin Does plugging it back in bring the issue back at this point?

no, but the current issue now is, I was testing 25 inch mode, and if I do go back to normal, both my monitors turn on, and I cannot open any apps, as if my apps are prob opening on the invisible elgato screen. It was vice versa normally where on 25 inch mode I cannot open anything until I unplugged elgato.

#

this is probably because I have 2 monitors instead of a 3rd one for the elgato

past basin
#

The elgato shouldn't have an invisible screen if there's a display in the HDMI OUT, it shoudl be matching that in passthrough mode. Do you get the cursor on that screen too?

#

If you're getting nohting at all on that screen after a firmware update, there could be an EDID negotiation issue - though I don't think HD60 Pro supports overriding that you might need to set the resolution down on the gaming PC to adjust some settings there, or even boot into safe mode to turn things down

digital whale
past basin
#

It generally shouldn't - it should match whatever is up on the display in the HDMI OUT. Odds are if you updated the montor firmware you triggered an EDID conflcit or other similar issue. If that happens power everything down for a few secionds, ideally removing AC power to the monitor, then restart everything

But you restarted the streaming PC and gaming PC while the monitor was off so the capture card and the GPU on the gaming PC would be forced to re-sync modes?

Other than that it's hard to say if the issue fixed itself on it's own when removing the HDMI and putting it back - could have been a hiccup with the monitor itself from the update. I know some of the Dell/Alienware ones can be a bit picky after an update Without more info it's hard to say.

when turning 25 inch mode, despite disabling the 2nd monitor, it forces both monitors on, and the 3rd display(elgato) in display settings, and I cannot open any apps until I unplug elgato HDMI, and after disconnecting 2nd monitor in display settings, then the mode works

past basin
#

Elgato should not show up as a third display when in passthrough mode. It either reports as the monitor it's connected to, or as Elgato HD60 Pro, it should never show up as a third display unless one of the two monitors is also hooked up twice.

#

Just to confirm the monitor the card is connected to, is the HD60 Pro the only video cord going into it?

digital whale
#

The 2nd monitor is hooked up to my Gaming PC(GPU) and Elgato

past basin
#

Right, and just two video cables going to the gaming pc? One to the Capture card, one to the monitor that's not on the capture card?

digital whale
#

there are 3 cables on gaming pc gpu, 2 display ports, and 1 hdmi(elgato) 1 display port to gaming monitor, 2nd display port to 2nd monitor. For 2nd monitor it has the GPU display port, and Elgato HDMI

past basin
digital whale
#

I am using G-sync on the gaming monitor, idk if that matters, but there was some issues duplicating displays a few weeks ago

past basin
#

You should be able to remove the extra displayport cable run there

#

Otherwise you're technically in an extneded setup with extra steps and cables.

#

So Gaming PC GPU to capture card, capture card to monitor. Get rid of the extra DisplayPort going to that specific monitor

digital whale
past basin
#

If that's why it's there the issue you hit earlier was that the monitor was on the wrong input because the monitor is hooked up twice it shows up as two screens to windows (even though one of them shows as HD60 Pro because that sits in between it's a second feed to the same monitor at the end of the day)

#

If you'd pressed input select on the monitor you'd probably have gotten the video back

#

If you have the cable there for some reason, like using it when the streaming PC is off, dupilcate that monitor and HD60 Pro so both feeds to the same monitor show hte same thing and you shouldn't run into that again

digital whale
past basin
#

But yeah, if you get the same issue again then, just press the input mode button on the montior to switch it from the HDMI to the Displayport feed or vice versa

#

I'd put money on that being what happened is it just switched default input after the firmware update, and removing things forced it to flip back

past basin
#

No worries sorry it took a bit to figure out the setup with it there. Good luck with it!

I’m using an Elgato 4K S. The video from my gaming PC shows perfectly in OBS on my streaming PC, but I can’t get any game audio.

There's not nearly enough info in this to be able to offer any kind of answer. What card are you using? What are you capturing? What app are you using? Mac and PC, and what are the system specs? Do you have a video clip by any chance showing the hitching? Is it just audio or video or both? Do you still get the issue if you try another app like Meld Studio or OBS?

past basin
# round pecan Without a sound mixer like voicematter i cant do it normaly ?

You can set your audio out on the game PC to the HDMI port entirely - but then all the audio goes to the streaming PC and you won't hear it on the gaming PC. A software mixer like Wave Link or Voicemeeter will let you send the gaming PC's audio two places at once to work around that. So would a hardware mixer really, but that's a bigger investment.

Hello, I have a Nintendo Switch connected to an Elgato HD 60 Pro. I had a problem with no picture at first, so I switched the PCIe slot on the motherboard. It worked fine for years, but now I'm only getting sound in the 4K capture utility, no picture. I've tried a different HDMI cable and all three PCIe slots (1_1, 1_2, and 1_3), but I still don't get a picture from the console. Now I'm wondering if the capture card is broken or if it's one of the three PCIe slots on the motherboard? Unfortunately, I don't have another PC to test with. I also tried uninstalling the device via the device manager as a test, but without success.

So I've been having a really strange issue lately regarding capture cards...

Using an Elgato 4K X and i tried it on 4 of my USB C ports with varying success (the 40gbps / Thunderbolt 4 ports have audio issues, the 10gbps Chipset port has frame drops and audio issues, and the 10gbps CPU port has just frame drops)

I've also tried with an AverMedia Live Gamer 2.1 Ultra (their external one) and it's a very similar result.
Initially both cards have a proper, stable framerate of 60 FPS but after some time they start dropping frames (it's just the capture card / video capture device, the stream / recording itself isn't dropping any)

I've now tried with one of the 10gpbs USB A ports (since I still had a USB C to A cable that supports that data rate) and it's also resulting in the same frame drops issue...

Any ideas?
This is the manual for my motherboard, on page 24 it mentions which USB ports are going to which chip (e.g. ASM4242, CPU, X870E chipset or RTS5420)
https://download-2.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/MPGX870ECARBONWIFI_English.pdf

#

I've also asked on the OBS Discord and they said I should pop in here and ask - perhaps someone else would've come across these issues before and managed to solve them

#

I've been fighting this issue for the past several months. Either audio issues or video issues as mentioned above, nothing fully fixed it...
My only other idea I have, which is a bit more annoying to do, is try a different motherboard and see if that fixes it...

Hold down CTRL when opening the Device Info panel and it should force the update button to show again, and you can try it again.
You can also hold down CTRL again when hitting update to manually specifiy a file (there's 2 for 4K X, MCU and Base, iirc. Files will be in the installation directory for the app, under the firmware directory - you may need to use Task Manager while it's running, right click it and go to the file location to get there as it's in the protected Windows Apps folder).

Generally don't add the card via capturing studio, especially with Game Capture, add it direct to Streamlabs as a Video Capture Device. If you need to have the game it it's own window, right click the source after you set it up and use the projector options to put it on another screen or window.

If it's slowing down only on preview you might be hitting a system resources limit - OBS will sacrifice preview performance to keep the recording smooth when it happens. This is especially an issue on laptops and mini PCs that have less cooling as they can start thermal throttleing after they warm up from running for a while (though it can still happen on desktops too). GPU drivers should also be checked for updates since they're tied into the rendering and encoding.

Also some ASMedia USB controllers, (10 Gbps ones mostly) tend ot have audio issues and require updated drivers and firmware. Check for updated chipset drivers, or firmware (iirc, AMD has a bundle update for the chipset) and on the motherboard's support site for any drivers for chipset or USB.

You may also need to check in Windows Settings, search for Manage Camera, and check under HD60 Pro to make sure that all the advanced options, especially Multi-app are off. yes hdcp is disabled. I played last week with it over the capture card. My PC is about 5 years old now, and as I said, everything was working fine last week. I've tried all three PCIe slots on the motherboard, but it doesn't work. I can hardly imagine that all three slots are defective, but I don't know for sure. can someone help me with an issue? its getting infiuriating :/
i have my 360 plugged in with a nintendo wii u HDMI cable on to my elgato 4KS with a generic HDMI going to the monitor, and its going into the pc with the original usb-c cable, but at random times the screen on the monitor and just the monitor; will flicker and turn black for like 2 or 3 seconds and go back to normal, but this keeps happening multiple times, and its annoying because its incosistent as well, im playing rock band 2 and for some ODD god knows what reason, it only happens when playing through songs, in the preview on obs nothing actually happens but i can't just be watching that since there's input delay and i can't work with that for rhythm games, i discarded the possibility of the HDMI cable being the one at fault since the generic output hdmi cable i plug into the capture card is the same one i later switch into my pc to use the monitor as a second screen and i never have flickering when the monitor is using the same cable to act as a second screen for my laptop, can someone please help me with this? (this only happens with my 360, i never noticed this happening with any other console i have)

It says 1.0 on that, but sould actually update to a different version. If it's not taking the update though try it on a different USB port. Sometimes that's all it takes. Preferably a port further away from the one you're using - a front panel one if you have one for example is likely ot be on a different USB controller. Ideally you also want to remove HDMI Cables from the card when doing this to prevent any interference from connected devices. Since the firmware failed also unplug the USB for like 15 seconds before reconnecting and trying again. If still no go, reach out to #official-tech-support or exchange it with the vendor you bought it from

Yeah, that might be an issue. It does lean a bit towards hardware failure when a PCIe card won't take a firmware update.
I'd reboot the PC, full cold reboot, power down, disconnect AC power 30 seconds and then reconenct and reboot to make sure the card discharges. Make sure nothing is plugged into the card during the update and try again. If it still won't reload the firmware check in the BIOS and see if you can set the PCIe lane it's in to PCIe revision 2.0 - sometimes the autoconfig in certain BIOS might run it on the wrong speed. If none of that helps, support or replacement are probably your best bet. They do offer some support out of warranty, but won't offter replacements if needed out of warranty.

Okay did a bit of a longer stream now and initially had the capture card on 1440p60FPS with NV12 (or rather, "Any" video format but it selected NV12)

It did the stuttering again after a while, I can see that I can get a small clip of it. It's not a full on 60 FPS down to 30 FPS, but it's most definitely dropping like 5+ frames every second so it's noticeable.

Then I tried dropping it down to 1080p and it seemingly stopped doing it so ... not sure what to make of that

#

So only other thing I can try now would be to see if Elgato Studio also has those issues... I mean, the capture card is marketed for 4K 60 capture for sure so it's weird that I can't even use that reliably without issues

One extra thing I noticed just now is that if I have Buffering set to Enable and have it on 60 FPS, it has about a 300-500ms delay in frames.
if I set it to 120fps or 144fps (or just Highest FPS), then the delay is seemingly... gone? Despite being on Buffering?

So not sure what to make of that... should mention, VRR is on as well with GSync, would like to keep that on as well (seeing as the card does support it sooo...)

Elgato Studio, Meld Studio, OBS, or QuickTime are the first ones that come to mind. I'd start with Elgato Studio so you can update the firmware if you need to.

Beyond that turn off HDCP in the PS5 video/HDMI settings. Then run the HDMI from the console to the HDMI in on the capture card, and USB from the capture card to the Mac. If your Mac only has usb-c ports make sure whatever cable or dock/hub you're using with it to connect the card is rated for 5 Gbps or faster

I'm not overly familiar with the Z30 but if you're not getting live preview out of it, even connected to a TV or monitor and are supposed to be, my first suspect is the micro HDMI Cable. Though you may also have some built in HDMI settings menus on the camera. On some cameras it might also be worth testing their video/photo playback mode - not all cameras have live preview, so if preview isn't working but playback is, it might be a camera limitation (I'm not familiar enough with the Z30 to know if it has live preview over HDMI ot not)

Does anyone have experience with HDMI splitters with Elgato products for example 4K S/X? Im thinking to buy a HDMI splitter to then connect both my Switch 2 and PS5 so I can have it on my PC Monitor. Is there more things I should look onto before buying one?

#

As in look for one that has power chord included etc..

past basin
# ember lynx Does anyone have experience with HDMI splitters with Elgato products for example...

If you're trying to connect two devices, that's a HDMI Switch, not a splitter. Splitter takes one output and copies it to two displays, switch takes multiple inputs and lets you switch between them.
They're not officially recommended as some have quirks that result in thigns not working right (eg messing with EDID settings that tell consoles what video modes to use), but usually they work okay. Just make sure you're getting one that's returnable if you do hit commpatibility issues, and if you run into issues expect support to ask you to remoe the switch for testing to rule it out. Also make sure you have one that's HDMI 2.0 or higher to work best with 4K S (2.1 for 4K X).

I don't believe you generally point the apps at Wave Cast though, but instead pull an audio device into wave cast to capture the audio. I'll have to double check that, I haven't looked at it much since beta since I didn't have 2 Windows 11 machines about.

UGREEN are usually pretty solid, but I've no personal experience with them. I've been using a Kinivo 840BN myself with 4K X (they have a previous 2.0 version the B550N too that would work with S). Mileage may vary based on your setup though (both of those have their own AC power).

If you're using OBS for the recording (or Streamlabs), mute the card and add it again as an audio input capture. OBS and it's derivatives sometimes have sync issues when pulling audio and video through the video feed from the card for some reason. Letting it mix in the audio from the card's audio interface usually clears it up and gives it more control over things like the sample rate. You might also want to turn on buffering in OBS, or turn it off manually in the Source properties as it's possible the auto detect for buffering isn't kicking in right

Put it back on Display generally. Custom EDID options won't apply in Display mode because Display passes along the EDID of whatever display you have connected on the HDMI OUT. If display is what caused the audio issues, check the steps mentioned to add the card again as an audio input source, as EDIDs also affect some audio settings - OBS might be affected by the differeent audio settings. Aside from that if it still flickers disable VRR as that might be going out of the VRR range supported by your monitor.

#

past basin
#

Check if your monitor has a compatibility mode - it's uncommon but some have a HDMI 2.0/2.1 toggle (I've never figured out why since they're supposed to be backwards compatible), and some have a PC/AV mode - for a 360 you'll want things on AV for best compatibility

pulsar garnet
#

right now its not flickering but it just did like 3 times very specifically when im playing a song which is super annoying

pulsar garnet
past basin
#

In this case AV doesn't mean composite/component cables, it means PC standard 60HZ or AV standard (NTSC) 59.94 or other similar differences

#

TVs and PCs historically have slightly different HDMI options

These days they mostly overlap, but I've still seen the occasional display that needs to be switched over

past basin
#

165 Hz? Quick question - is this a monitor that's currently connected to the PC as well as the capture card, and you're toggling between the modes when you switch to the console?

pulsar garnet
#

when i want to use the monitor as a second screen, i grab the same hdmi cable that's connected to the output of the capture card, and put it back on my pc

#

and vice versa

past basin
#

Okay, that can actually foul up Display EDID mode because some monitors actually turn the port off when it's not in use so the card might not be polling it correctly.
Two options here are make sure the monitor is setup for the console and connected to the card, then restart the card, and console to make sure they resync with the monitor while it's actively connected. Second option is to try to copy the EDID from the monitor and load it into the card so the card can provide the same setup - to do that you need a utilty like Custom Resolution Utility. Connect the monitor to the PC via HDMI, run the utility, select the monitor in the dropdown and export the EDID with the option in the bottom left. From there note where you put the file, load up Elgato Studio again, set EDID input mode to Internal, select Custom EDID and choose the custom option and then choose that EDID file you just made. Restart the card and console after this and try again

That's about normal if it's matched with the video in OBS, but off against the passthrough video on another screen. The capture card syncs incoming audio with the video feed, and the video decode time can push you back a bit. Passthrough to another screen meanwhile doesn't get the processing delay so if you listen through the captured feed on the computer, and you play on a display in the HDMI out there will be an audio desync. You can get around this with something like Chat Link Pro so you can listen right to the console's audio feed while still splitting off a copy to the capture card though. Some Mixamps allow a similar setup too

I would try safe mode then as it's the most display compatbile mode on the playstation. If the playstation won't boot to safe mode you have more issues other than just capture.
This sounds like your display is sending the card an incompatible EDID though. If you change the input EDID mode in the card to "Internal" using the side pullout menu in Elgato Studio, then restart the PS5, does anything change? (The reboot is important here to make the PS5 resync available display modes from the Extended Display Identification Data, but often you can also unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable to do the same)

Okay, that board doesn't have any x4 slots, it's not going to be fully compatible with 4K Pro . It does appear to have 2 10 Gbps USB ports on the back which would be compatible with 4K X thoug (though would need an additional 10 Gbps USB-C to A, since 4K X ships with a USB-C to C).

You MIGHT get 4K Pro to work in that setup if the source is only 1080p60, but anything above that is going to give issues.

New motherboard. It would need at least one free PCIe slot of PCIe 2.0 x4 or higher. Your board only has x1 slots aside from the GPU one.
As the card is PCIe 2.0 itself, having higher bandwidth PCIe 3 or higher on the board doesn't affect the lane count needed, it still needs at least x4 on a slot

Passthrough is the video that goes to the HDMI OUT port of your card (literally passing through the card). If it's video in the app it's capture or preview.
Depending on what card you're using there are a couple ways that the quality of preview might not match up with the quality of passthrough, though outright resolution drops is unusual outside certain cases. The usual thing folks will notice is many of the cards do chroma subsampling so high contrast edges may show colour pixellation (see https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027950532-Chroma-Subsampling-on-HDMI-Passthrough for example - this no longer applies to passthrough on newer cards, but does still apply to most cards for preview/capture, and is also applied by most streaming services if you compare with online video).

I'm starting to suspect the entire app might be rendering at a too low resolution, so I'm trying to hunt for the exe to check different compatibility modes, think that could be the case?

I'm hoping someone can help me before i go insane.
Me and a group of mates get together every Friday for a FIFA Friday session, it's just for fun but i wanted to record the sessions and then upload the individual games to Youtube anyway just so if there was good bits i would have them recorded.
I play on the Xbox Series X and it feeds into a HD 60 X which then goes into my Windows 11 PC and i record it in OBS (latest version 32.0.4 right now) In OBS i have the source as a Video capture Device.

I will play the game on my PC monitor via HDMI, record in OBS and monitor the audio from OBS so i hear gameplay (mainly so i don't have audio through monitor speakers and it coming through the mic) I did noticed the audio was lagging behind abit sometimes especially after long sessions but i didn't really think to check the recording until now but the audio is off from the video.
I'm trying to match up the audio but it's as if it's a different speed to the video, when i sync it to the start of the match, further in the match it's off sync again.

I have tried doing it via 4K capture and Elgato Studio but the apps tend to start stuttering after a while both while i was using them to play and in the recording.

Any ideas?

Capture card Audio falling out of sync in OBS, the fix is usually to mute the audio from the video capture source, and add an audio input capture source, selecting the capture card.
OBS seems to get the audio better when set up as separate sources, when this happens.
That said, monitoring through OBS will always be more latent then if you have a sound mixer (like wave link) receiving your capture card audio and mixing it out to your headphones and OBS at the same time.

But if the real-world delay isn't enough to bother you... it's up to you.
But separating the audio and video sources usually is the fix for audio drift over long recordings.

lone crypt
# spice vale i have a hd 60s I've had it for years i use it quite often i got a dual pc setup...

Pops and clicks in audio are a symptom of buffer errors. Which could mean your CPU isn't keeping up; doesn't have enough headroom to process audio cleanly in real time. Software choice could impact this as they might handle the buffer differently from each other. But it could also be things like a USB controller that is not behaving right with audio stuff. there are a few chipsets that are known to have issues with audio... it's not that uncommon. Update your BIOS and stuff like that.

But check that buffering is enabled on your OBS sources, too.

spice vale
#

i have a i7 8700k on my recording pc just for capturing but your saying it could be a chipset thing which means i cant do nothing ?

lone crypt
#

It could be CPU not able to keep up, and that's a lot to do with how software is handling the buffering, more than raw CPU speed. I mean, it all comes down to headroom on the CPU. But having a super small buffer can make even just a few 48khz audio channels struggle. There are a lot of factors there.
We don't know for sure it's that.
Could also be an issue with the chipset, in which case make sure your chipset driver and BIOS are updated as motherboard manufacturers should have pushed updates to fix audio on the ASMedia chipsets that has problems.
So check that!

I'm still on Wave Link 2.0 because when 3.0 came out on beta it confused me and messed with my whole audio set up for everything so i reverted back.
I do plan on giving 3.0 another shot soon now it's out public release and plenty of guides on it so i'm guessing that will help more with your other suggestion of feeding it into wave link.

Thanks for the help.
Any ideas or suggestions as to why 4k Capture or Elgato Studio starts stuttering after a while?
I've got a Intel Core Ultra 7 256k CPU, 32GB DDR5 RAM and 4070 Super so shouldn't be any issues from an hardware perspective so is there something else i can do to prevent the stuttering?

lone crypt
#

Wave link 2 does this all just fine, too. No need to mess with 3 if you don't want to

#

I'm really just guessing. there are a hundred thousand combinations of computer hardware out there and your windows install isn't going to fully match anybody elses....

#

it does sound like more of a USB issue likelyhood... It doing the same thing in different apps.

Other audio things to check: Make sure your audio devices (device properties) have any enhancements or spatial effects disabled. reset settings to default, in OBS doing this with your source, making sure buffering is enabled. that buffering is usually important.

Not much to be done with that on HD60 X - you can reduce it a bit using YUY2 format in OBS iirc, which ihs 4:2:2 instead of 4:2:0, but you'd need 4K Pro or 4K X to get full 4:4:4. It's not usually an issue since platforms like Twitch and YoutUbe are going to hit you with a 4:2:0 subsample anyway, though it can be an issue for local recording

#

Hm. I wonder if I can move things over to the other PC to get a comparison on that

hushed crescent
#

The chroma subsampling you mean? Or the blurriness?

past basin

subsampling. I think the blur was discord scaling up the image on me when I clicked. For some reason I forgot that might be an issue because I'm usually zooming with other tools or websites

hushed crescent
#

I did go ahead and check something, not sure how well it will come through but I took that screenshot of the screen and the one from studio and zoomed in to compare, I got this

#

You can really see the subsampling on the software screenshot, and the blurriness on the system screenshot

past basin
#

Yeah, blur might be coming from the OS screenshot. Is the app in fullscreen mode when you do that? If not it's going to be scaling the video.

hushed crescent
#

yes, I took it in fullscreen

#

The blur is apparent using real life zoom (getting really close) and the chroma subsampling isn't very apparent at all in the preview

#

the blur is a little less bad in the game itself, but not a whole lot worse. Colored text or things like the little health bars are just as bad as the top screenshot

#

Well, I fixed the contrast issue. My switch was trying to force HDR when not appropriate or compatible

#

Helped a bit with the non-text blur too, so it's a lot more bearable now

past basin
#

Ah, yeah tonemapping might not do you favours there

#

I've got no other explaination for in app blur if everything is on the same res though - if it's still happening you might want to test with a third party app like Meld Studio or OBS to see if third party apps hit it too

As far as I'm aware it's not normal to have to drop a 360 to 720p for capture, no.
The only other idea I'd have to try though is to hook your monitor up to the PC via HDMI, use a tool like CRU (custom resolution utility), and export the monitor's HDMI, then load it onto the card as a custom EDID. This can somtimes fix edge cases that come up when a monitor and capture card really don't want to agree on EDID settings for some reason.

Its plugged into my ps5 controller and only when twisting that part does it change how it sounds, not the part my headset is plugged into. Could it be the controller? This is a brand new cord. I just need to know if it IS my controller before I decide to buy a new one.

Not with Studio. I'm actually unsure with 4K Capture Utility - it can record in HDR but it used to have a limit on preview.
Other apps like OBS can do it though. I think Meld Studio too

https://www.elgato.com/explorer/products/capture/record-hdr-gameplay-with-obs-studio-and-elgato/ explains it for OBS. Some cards might need HDR tonemapping turned off in the right side panel in Studio first, but newer ones should auto switch when OBS requests a HDR format

Hello, can I get help how to set up properly with hdmi switch with elgato capture card 4x? I bought a UGREEN hdmi splitter that looks like above.

And I have the following device I want to connect

  • Switch 2
  • Ps5
  • Capture card
  • My pc monitor
#

Do I put the Capture card into the HDMI out on the UGREEN device?

#

I did a paint picture just to try visuliase how i should connect all cables, but if I do it this way, will it then work? Kinda like how you just connect your monitor with 1 console directly on the capture card

All hdmi sources should come into the switch in ports.
Switch out port goes to the capture card input.
Capture card output goes to the display.

Arcsane was tipsing about Kinivo 840BN but sadly in the retail stores around me they didnt have that model except for the Ugreen hdmi switcher (from earlier screenshot i posted), since he advised that I have safety guarntee to return it in case it wouldnt work, but thankfully it works where I can leisure switch hdmis depending on what Id like to play from switch to ps5 and probably many more things now :D

So far so good with the UGREEN hdmi switcher I got! (The model in question I bought is UGREEN 8k@60hz HDMI-switch 5 in 1 Out aluminium)

Hi everyone, i will try to explain what i have and hopefully anyone can help to understand how this works.
Manly playing Elite and probably will keep, so i decided to stream.
What i have is: 2 PCs 1 where i play ED and i use Voice attack with HCS voicepacks and it as elgato mic. 2nd that will do the streaming.
Elgato 4kx connect to my gaming monitor with dysplayport and hdmi from my GPU to capture card and the usbc connect to streaming pc. No issues with video, everything works well.
Then i have 1 ground loop isolater connected to my line in om gaming pc that it goes into line out of my streaming pc, then i have a second isolater connect to my line out of gaming pc that it goes into line in of the streaming pc.
After that i try to use Elgato software to share audio. The issue is i dont know where iam lost because while streaming i have repeating sounds and sound delay. Very annoing...I do mute my stream, also tried delay sound on OBS but iam lost at this time. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Ah, that's moved to Studio now - the old Capture Device Utility hasn't been updated with new firmware files in a while, the only thing it's used for that's not in Studio yet is updating to 10 GBps mode for macOS (hold down option in Capture Device Utility once we get the card showing up to enable that). If you already have Studio, make sure it's not open while using the Capture Device Utility, as they two can compete for access to the card's setup. But I'd start first with Studio to see if it shows up there, if not check the mac's System Report in the USB section to make sure it's listed (passthrough only needs power, not a data link so if there's a cable issue or such it might be getting power to pass a signal through to your TV/monitor on the HDMI Out but not actually talking to the mac)

#

Yeah, if Studio isn't seeing it check if it shows in the mac's System Report under USB

past basin
# cunning spindle Hi everyone, i will try to explain what i have and hopefully anyone can help to ...

This sounds like you have both computers playing to each other, which would create a feedback loop. Which Elgato App are you using to share the audio? Wave Link? Wave cast? the old Sound Capture app? Assuming it's Wave Link check that both computers are setup so that the mix from the other machine coming in only goes to your recording mix, or the device you're listening on (make sure the audio in from each PC isn't getting routed to the audio out going back to the other PC essentially).
Also how much of a delay are you talking about? A few milliseconds, or something like a full second? If you're getting a lot of delay and using something like OBS or Streamlabs you may also want to try muting the card's video source and adding it again as an audio input capture as this can fix some hiccups with delay in those apps.

If you want to record in HDR try OBS - https://www.elgato.com/explorer/products/capture/record-hdr-gameplay-with-obs-studio-and-elgato/
Note that outside YouTube none of the streaming platforms do HDR yet though which is one of the reasons things default to tonemappig to SDR. If you need to be on SDR for compatibility look into lookup tables / LUTs for adjusting the colour shifts caused by tonemapping

Try reducing your refresh rates - your GPU has what is essentially an overall cap on how many pixels it can drive in a second - higher res and higher refresh rates eats into more of that, and it's already usually lower on a mobile GPU. If you're driving something like 4K displays or 240hz ones, you could be eating enough video bandwidth that it will have issues. You checked for the GPU drivers already?
Given that it's a laptop you can also get some unexpected behaviour if you're trying to clone a monitor on the main GPU with the iGPU, if both are setup. If your laptop has a MUX toggle you might want to try that as well

isolators shouldn't be needed for HDMI as it's digital only. That said you're referring to monitor mix here - are you using Wave Link 2 or the new Wave Link 3? Also you mentioned earlier that you were using Line In/Out to run an aux cable between systems, but this sounds like you set it up to go over HDMI instead? Did you set it up both ways? If so you should only need one.
Don't use a sync offset while you're trying to troubleshoot a delay, generally. Are you adding the audio from the other PC thorugh Wave Link or direct to OBS or both? Also again how long of a delay are you getting, and if you're routing the audio through OBS did you try adding it as a Audio Input Capture?

past basin

It's not something all laptops have, mostly higher end gaming ones - essentially some have the ability to go between dedicated GPU only and hybrid mode where some ports are on the integrated GPU.

That should have been mentioned before, there's not going to be a MUX on the Desktop assuming this is the source PC (gaming PC). Do make sure the ports you're trying to clone are on the GPU though, not the motherboard, as the motherboard HDMI or Displayport connectors run on the iGPU. But yes, check the drivers on the desktop

Has anyone else experience audio issue on Mac using WL3 but only on the usb capture card (4k x) on personal mix?

Idk if it’s the new firmware update of the capture utility on Mac that caused the issue. I feel like it is because it was recently updated.

I am currently seeing if a forced downgrade in firmware is possible

# ionic lily Yah that’s what I use. Ima see if I can completely factory reset it somehow and ...

There's no factory reset for it, as it doesn't really save much beyond the analog/HDMI options, EDID and diagnostic info. You can reflash the firmware, by holding ctrl (probably command for mac), while opening the device info settings to show the update button and holding the same button when you click update to select the firmware files. I'm honestly not sure where the files are on macOS though you might want to reach out to support on that through #official-tech-support , or you can try opening the installer DMG for Elgato Studio with something like 7zip and pulling a copy of the firmware files from the firmware folder in there. There are two - MCU and Base.

No direct download for the firmware files though - they're embedded in the installers for Elgato Studio (and the other apps)

past basin
# olive sable Do i have to turn them down al 3 ?

I'm taking it that's a no, you didn't turn it down to make sre the card wasn't just driving too much at once.
Usually capping one to 60 Hz or somethign is fine. Or even just disconnecting one entirely to test

#

You basically want to make sure you're not overloading the GPU as even with 4 outputs it can still only drive so many pixels. Eg, you might only get 2 4K 120 screens, but 3-4 4K60, or 4 1080p120, etc etc, as the latter use less bandwidth overall.

Most likely culprit is USB conneciton then. You mentioned this is on the front panel? Does anything else work in that USB port? Alternatively do you have a USB-C to A cable (of at least 5 Gbps speed) that you could yse the card with on one of the rear ports?

That's telling us there's an issue with the USB connection somewhere. Port is fine (companion port warning means it's running in backwards compatibility mode because something else is too slow). The fact connection is at HigH speed is an issue though. Is this USB cable going rught into the computer, no dock, hubs or adapters? Also does the Elgato Cable correctly have the speed listed on one end, stamped into the plug?

past basin
graceful gorge
past basin
#

Curious - that might mean the front panel header to the motherboard is only USB 2, or there's a problem with the front panel connection or the cable itself

#

That's going to be somewhat of an issue to track down though. Ideally we can rule out some issues if you have a USB-C to A cable about that's at least USB 3.0 / 5 Gbps / SuperSpeed or faster and try it on a rear port

#

If not check that the motherboard header cable for the USB port isn't loose on the motherboard or at the case itself inside as only one pin making bad contact is enough for it to drop down

graceful gorge
past basin
#

If that doesn't help and you still get the same sort of report about High Speed connection with the new cable on another port, check the card's USB-C for signs of drit and if that's all good you might want to talk to #official-tech-support or try exchanging the card with the vendor
