#capture-cards

yeah that'll work day one ofc, as long as they kept their promise of 120fps on launch day
Yeah, Blanke is right there. As long as the game is 120 fps, Studio should record in 120 fps. If it doesn't for any reason you can also try something like OBS Studio instead. I think Meld Studio does 120 fps mode too. (why is everything names Studio now)
If you wanted to test it to be sure I think the Street Fighter 6 demo is free and runs in 120 mode
cause everything starts in the studio...

Im not sure if anyone is awake but Im having a problem. Out of nowhere my gameplay is now very over saturated when it was completely fine last night. I camt find many videos talking about this problem so I came here. Has anyone experienced this?
Does it persist through rebooting the PC (full power off, wait 15 seconds, power back on)? That can reset some potential causes for that issue with both the card and app and is a good place to start. It would also help if you have a screenshot
sorry for not seeing your message until now, however I found a fix. I downloaded Elgato studio and turned off tone mapping and it got everything sorted out on OBS thankfully. However in the future if the problem reoccurs I'll reach out again.
Have a good day/night!
Glad to hear you got it working
I have the H60X capture and I cannot hear audio at all when I go back to listen to the footage. I have a PS5 console and a PC. I haven't set up any streaming software(OBS Studio/Streamlabs). I updated all drivers on my PC. Any idea on what can be wrong?
Are you using a headset with your console, or does the sound come through the hdmi to your display?
I'm using a headset.
Then the audio is going to your headset.
I think PlayStation has settings for sending audio to both at the same time, so you could try setting that. While you’re in those audio settings make sure the hdmi audio is stereo PCM.
Or… this is what people use the chat link pro cable for.
It splits the audio going to your headset and feeds that into the analog port on the capture card so console audio can be in the headset and the capture card at the same time.
I have the Chat Link Pro and still can't hear any audio from the captures.
Ah ok, see these are details we need in order to get the right answer.
so open up 4k capture utility and check the settings of your capture card. Since you’re using analog audio input to it, you need to set the capture card audio mode to analog.
It worked! Thanks! I have another question.lol. I can now hear audio thru my headset and the capture utility(on my PC speakers) . Could i turn down the volume on my PC , or would that effect the capture's audio?
Yeah you don’t need to listen to the computer while playing. You’re hearing what you need direct from the console to your headset.
Mute the computer speakers
(Not the audio to capture, if that’s even an option)
Thank you so much!
The chat link pro means whatever you hear in your headset is what the capture card is hearing exactly.
Nice!
Device: HD60 X
Software & Version: Elgato Studio 1.0.1 (717)
Windows/Mac Version: Win11
PC/Mac Specs: AMD CPU and GPU
Are you using the cable included in the box? (Yes/No): Yes
Question/Issue:
I wanted to Discord screenshare my PC Screen with my new HD60 X. When I select the Capture Card it keeps loading and ends on a error screen with error 2011 Stream couldn't start.
If i try to add it to OBS it just keeps a black screen and nothing happens. Is there any settings i need to change?
Discord's streaming is . . weird sometimes. First thing I'd do is completely restart Discord (including from the system tray by the clock, don't just x it out). Give it a minute to unload and load it in again and see if it's working. That usually clears it not loading for me. If that doesn't help try disabling hardware acceleration in the Discord settings as that doesn't always play nice on every system.
Since the last month or so I have to restart mine every other time I want to screen share.
Hi folks, I recently got a new motherboard and set up my 4k60 Pro capture card. I downloaded it the new Elgato studio and am having issues. I made sure its in a proper pci slot and isn't competing with another m.2 drive or anything. When I have my PS5 plugged in it will show 1080p and even 4k but when I try 1440p I get the duplicate screens/flashing green on the signal or things like that in the software.. any tips?
Original 4K60 or the Mk2? I'm assuming Mk2 since you're using Studio? What refresh rate are you trying to run the 1440p singnal at - if it's 120, do you have a HDMI 2.0 cable? Does the PS5 come back reporting success on the 1440p test? If there's a monitor in the HDMI out port does it still get working signal or are both that and the capture having the issue?
Pretty sure this is the mk2. Refresh rate at 60, not even wanting nor trying to do 120. I have a 2.1 cable as the input cable and the output is 2.0.
When I keep all the settings as their default in the software side of things 1440p will be grayed out or the PS5 will say the connected device cannot be supported. It seems to be 1080p or 4k that is supported
The monitor receives and holds a signal while I trouble shoot everything. So its getting proper passthrough.
So proper passthrough even on 1440p? Just the card having an issue? If you set Input EDID mode no the card to Internal and set the Internal EDID to 1440p, does it clear up?
I get audio, but it looks like this through the capture software. But the PS5 is at the 1440p resolution
If you go to device info, is there any firmware update for your card?
The fact it's working on 4K60 rules out most PCIe faults so the fact it's not taking 1440p is throwing me.
You might also have to restart the PS5 after changing the EDID or disconnect the HDMI and reconnect it (or re-run the 1440p test) to get it to pick up the change. In rare cases I've seen a PS5 fail to auto detect the change
@past basin when I click on devices and have the 4k60 Pro selected no button for update pops up.
Rebooting it now and reconnecting the HDMI's
If ther'es no update button it should be current - it hides the button unless there's an update
noted
still got the same result
Bleh, that LOOKS like textbook PCIe bandwidth issues, but if it were it shoudln't work in 4K60 mode.
Does the card do the same thing if used with 4K Capture Utility instead of Studio?
I use to use 4k capture utility in the past, let me try it out one sec
ok so I jumped onto 4k capture utility and it forced the PS5 to 4k60
4KCU is reading it as 1080p though - that's concerning.
when I try to test 1440p I get the "connected HDMI device doesn't support 1440p output"
Change Input EDID Mode there to Internal
Same as we did with Studio
Odds are 4KCU switched it back since it's on merged
for utility I get this, audio, but no signal
This is studio
for my PCIe I checked that its in the proper lane and moved anything that would take resources from it off
What's the model of motherboard you've got in there?
And are there any UEFI/BIOSupdates for it?
Both of the PCIe slots at the bottom of that board are only wired for x1 . The card needs an x4 slot (PCIe 2.0 or higher) for full operation
At least we know what's going on now
I'm guessing the card is only capturing in 1080p mode when it's getting 4K signal form the PS5. Or reporting 4K wrong entirely because of the issue
Seems to be the case, I should be able to return this mobo to microcenter, I just got it yesterday
Hopefully. They should be able to point you to one with more PCIe bandwidth. B650 boards aren't uncommon to have fewer lanes
I just need one with at least one or two x4 slots
word, i'll go ahead and do that. Thank you for all your help Arcsane, I greatly appreciate it
No problem, good luck with it!
If you can't find a B650 board with it, look for the X670/X670E or even the x870/x870E as they usually have more lanes. There's some B650's around with an x4 slot iirc though, just don't remember one off top of my head
hey i need help with an audio issue for my cature card. I currently have a HD60 S and when i moved from my Switch to my Switch 2, the audio completely stopped working. I have set the audio to stereo which was reccomended online, could someone help me fix this issue?
Switch 2 audio can be quirky a times. If it's already on Stereo, I suggest powering off the Switch 2, and restarting the PC, then power everything back on. If that doesn't do it, disconnect USB to the capature card for 10-15 seconds and reconnect it to reset the card
aight ill try that
Try setting Audio Output Source to TV if it's not already
also does the Switch 2 menu normally look like this weird shade of green?
powering off the switch 2 worked! ty!!
Nice, glad to hear it
is RGB 4:4:4 Video viable on consoles? or does device not matter. I'm trying to follow this official guide on getting the 4K60 Pro MK2 to capture 4:4:4, and copying the same OBS settings but it doesn't seem to work and makes colors darker.
This is my current appearance
comparison to how it looks on the handheld display (Switch app compression, but you see the color differences)
oh wow I look dumb, this was simply the card fighting over if the signal is full or limited color space. Welp, now my capture doesn't look a slight tint of green now. I'll leave this here for anyone to hopefully find the guide
I ended up finding a solution to this. It was at least 1 second. I ended up unmuting the card and muting the input capturing the sound. I mainly needed it to share my Switch 2's screen and audio and that went well.
Will come back if I have any issues, thanks for the response.\
@loud garnet For that iPad adapter, do you know what resolution it's outputting?
I was just rescaling it to HD on OBS with my older capture card. How do I check the exact res?
@past basin it’s 1920 x 1080
Back shortly, got a call from work
Ofcourse ofcourse. Take your time. As long as it works, I am glad I don’t have to return the 4K X
I’m not sure if this is the right spot but how do I clip certain parts from my gameplay I just recorded?
Ok I just found a few things. When I go to display and brightness on my ipad and change the 4K X to SDR, the "no input" error on Elgato studio goes away and I get a black screen instead. Which I believe is the HDCP issue. So is the only fix to get an HDMI splitter that can bypass HDCP? Or do you have a better solution?
HDCP with it should only be an issue if you've got something like Netflix open
I just get black screen, even with no apps open. I tried browsers, photos, games. Its all black screen
Sorry work call is taking longer than usual.
Is there a monitor or anything in the HDMI out of the capture card? Or is it just iPad to Capture Card, no output?
If there's nothing in the output you'll want to try using Elgato Studio or 4K Capture Utility and setting Input EDID Mode to "Internal" in the device settings
Yesh its just the iPad. It got fixed. The setting to SDR did the trick. The black screen was a software issue with elgato studio. Even though it was showing black screen, for some weird reason I tried the recording feature. And bingo the recording worked perfectly fine. So I closed both OBS and Elgato studio and re-opened and MAGIC!
Thanks a ton for your help!!!
huh, weird. The card normally tonemapps SDR to HDR for issues like that. Still, glar to hear you got it sorted!

I'm trying to stream my elgato from my PS5 to my laptop I have the elgato in Port plugged into my PlayStation and then the outport going to my monitor and then the power cord plugged into my computer I've already installed the 4K utility whenever I try selecting the video capture device on OBS it just shows a black screen and my HDCP is off
Does 4K Capture Utility throw you any errors about the card? Are any other apps (eg NVidia Broadcast, Teams, Discord, etc) using the card as their default camera?
If you check Windows Privacy settings, are the options for allowing Desktop apps to use the cameras enabled?
You should also make sure the PS5 is not set above 1080p60, or has HDR or VRR given the HD60 S doesn't support that
The only app that says my camera is being used is OBS studio and no it did not throw me any error codes it just said finished downloading
Finished downloading? did it update right after you ran it for the first time or anything?
When running 4K Capture Utility, does it list a resoltion and refresh rate in the top right for the Source signal?
That is all it said after I ran the wizard
All my HDCP HDR settings are off the resolution on the PS5 is 1080p
Close OBS and actually run 4K Capture Utility itself, not the installation wizard
It can detect some potential errors that OBS can't since it's written specifically for the Elgato cards
Okay so it says device is in use by another software and if I open my task manager it says device is in use by another software but this is what my task manager looks like
If you go to Windows Privacy Settings under Camera, there should be a Recent Activity section that'll show any apps that have been making requests to use a camera (including capture cards), if that's not where you were looking earlier
That settings panel wasn't still open when 4K Capture Utility launched was it?
If it thinks another app is using it, sometimes the quickest fix is restarting the PC so all the apps get closed as well
Okay I'll do that real quick and then start up 4K utility before I open settings again
Yeah it's still saying settings at the top of the page after I just launched 4K capture utility 😔
Sorry for causing you time
Should the light be off or on on the actual capture card itself
Generally off after the boot up flashing unless it's recording - with some apps it may light up then
If you boot the PlayStation in safe mode do you get the signal from that?
Hey all! Hope everyone’s having an amazing day. I’ve been having the worst time with an issue and am in desperate need of help. One to one through text here or call. Elgato site and chat bot is useless.
Can anyone tech savvy please help?
best to explain your issue off the bat for faster assistance
For sure, I’m just new to the community and didn’t want to post unnecessarily
Using OBS with Elgato HD [3.5 software (older Elgato)]. I can’t figure out how to fix the Audio Desync. Please help!
*I am using a laptop: Intel Core i7 NVIDIA GeForce RTX.
*I am using Elgato HD (their first iteration? It is external and is running 3.5 software)
*I am trying to stream my retro consoles like NES, SNES, Sega Ect. There are no controller ports to plug cables into like the ps4/5 controller would have for example.
*I have everything set up in my OBS and it’s working fine EXCEPT, theres a minuscule delay in the stream audio (that viewers see) that I can’t seem to fix with the sync offset (milliseconds) on any source.
*I also have a desync in the audio that I hear separately from the viewers audio in my stream (I’m not listening to the stream audio but my own so I don’t hear myself twice). The audio I’m listening to is 1 full second delayed. I can’t seem to pinpoint and change that audio to sync up either.
**Advanced Audio Properties: (what I have everything set to)
Desktop Audio———> -67ms (seems to have changed nothing, but is the threshold. If it were -68 there’d be no audio)——-> Monitor Off
Elgato Capture Device———> -900ms (seems to have changed nothing when tweaking it) ———-> Monitor Only (Mute Output)
Headset Microphone 🎤 ———-> 0ms ———-> Monitor Off
Headset Hyper X Cloud Revolver S 🎧 ———-> -900ms (seems to have changed nothing when tweaking it) ——> Monitor Off
So that’s what I am working with and have gotten as far as to set it all up. Stream looks and works great, albeit that dang audio desync. Can someone please help or maybe audio call me on discord and walk me through while I broadcast a test stream? Any help is MUCH appreciated as I’ve spent 2 lonnnnnng full days trying to figure this out.
*3.7 software I’ve found now and it’s the legacy Elgato HD
In OBS you simply set the audio sync offset to compensate for the processing time difference in your audio and video.
For live, the OBS preview includes the software and hardware latency of whatever the system setup is…there’s no way to go back in time so the only way to adjust sync if you’re playing on the preview is to delay whichever one is coming in sooner to match the later one. (Which is what audio sync offset is doing for the recording/stream, since real time doesn’t matter there)
Would be much better to play on a display connected to the passthrough instead of OBS preview, since that should still be synced and usually as close to real time as you can get. Like single digit ms, even on old capture cards, since there is no processing on that.
sorry for the late response, i was a mod in a chat.
ive tried messing with the ms delays, but the only thing that seems to change is the desktop audio, but changing that doesnt seem to change the timing.
also, im a noob to modern pc gaming
oh, and I am playing on my t.v. not through the prieview. the stream when watching on youtube is only a split second delay, but im not listening to that. im trying to listen to the raw audio as im watching it on my t.v. but that audio is 1 full second delayed. thats what im trying to fix
Ah well that’s very weird then. Hmm. What capture card is this?
the legacy ElgatoHD.. let me go to reddit and copy my post. ill paste it here with all the detsils
I probably don’t have an answer for you then. I really don’t know what could cause that. Maybe somebody else will. Arcsane patrols Reddit pretty hard.

I’ve been troubleshooting for days. And no one in any discords knows how to help yet. Very varied responses. Also, just saw him reply to me as I copied my Reddit
I think maybe a software thing but this is much older than my learning and out any capture card stuff. Sorry!
No worries, thanks for the help. ive gotten close, but the source people have told me to add isnt showing up. anyway ill see what arcsane says.
have you tried to have 2 sources? mute the video one, and create an audio input and select the capture card and see if that helps the sync issue?
I had someone in the OBS discord work with me on that for a while, but we hit a brick wall. I was told to mute the ElgatoHD capture, then add an audio input source and chose Elgato (straight up Elgato) but the only option to chose is my headset or “Line (Elgato Sound Capture)
Also I’m a pc noob so I need a abit of walkthrough when setting things up
I can vc in about 30 mins
so you're using sound capture?
try this
but with your card
I was told not to use the sound capture, but it always downloads with anything I download. Like just the drivers… bam theres sound capture
sounds settings, more sound settings, recording, your capture card properties, and listen
ok cool, also you could uninstall sound capture, or decline it... there might be somethign else that might help too, but idk if it's compatible with the older cards.
maybe
I’ve done that.
Maybe I’ll just wait for you and redo the steps after deleting all ElgatoHD off the laptop again
So you can see what it’s doing
ok, give me about 20 mins
I’m aging rapidly troubleshooting this lmao
Take your time! You’ve given me hope lol. You’re the first person to offer help this way
I'm back now.
sent a dm
Yeah this kinda helps, now it works at least sometimes.
So there is no fix for this?
Is there a difference between 4k Capture Utility and Elgato Studio?
So I am using the Elgato 4k s and when i first got it it ran vvery well. havent used it in a month or so and now my ps5 lags like no other its bad. I have no idea what to do to fix it. plugged into a tv it works great but on my 1440p monitor severe lag
i have a very beefy computer so i shouldnt be havbing issue
never mind I deleted the app and redownloaded it, that seems to have resolved the issue
A difference for Discord streaming? Not that I'm aware of - though I tend to use OBS Projector for my own Discord streaming the rare times I do it. Performance for each app can vary a bit on different systems so I'd just gow ith whichever you find works best, or your personal preference
I have a 60 s+ and I connected it right and the light turns white. However, when obs picks it up all I see is black. I know I connected it right cause I can see it on the monitor. I also turned off hdcp or whatever that thing is on ps5 that you need to turn off. How do I fix this?
Check privacy settings on the computer, and if that’s not it, Do you have more than one app trying to use the card?
Only one app can address the card and I’ve heard of them getting stuck sometimes and needing a reboot to be working again.
What do I check in privacy settings exactly? Also I’m assuming no cause it is a brand new pc.
Maybe I’ll set it up again and restart it while it is hooked up to see if it fixes it.
That apps are allowed to use cameras.
This would probably default to not allowed on a brand new operating system.
Oh ok I’ll try that when I get home I appreciate it man
Camera permissions is the best place to start, but if that doesn't work, HD60 S+ has a limit on HDR support where it only supports YUV420, not the now more common 422, and otherwise will get a black screen. You may need to adjust the PS5's 4K Video Transfer rate to drop it to 420 mode (see https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360053160831-Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-S-4K-Video-Transfer-Rate-and-HDR-on-PlayStation-5) or disable HDR on the console.
My hd60X is working just fine for playing games through the software but every time I try and record it via video capture device in OBS studio it shows a black screen. am able to get passed this by doing window capture for hd60x software but the gameplay is choppy. Anyone know how to fix the black screen issue in OBS?
You're not running OBS at the same time 4K Capture Utility or Elgato Studio are open are you? HD60 X is a UVC card and can only be accessed by one app at a time
I was using it as the same time
Shut the Elgato app down, then restart OBS or set up the card again in the soruces at least, so it'll refresh the connection
Ok I did that how do I add the audio?
Im getting the video pass through now but not any audio from my switch 2
it looks a lot better now thank you
Audio should be there already for stream and recording, but OBS has audio monitoring off by default. Under the advanced audio settings, in the edit menu, set the card's "Monitor" option to Monitor and Output
Im having trouble finding that give me one second
You can also get to those settings via the gear icon on the audio panel
I think its working now
ok its working now thank you so much man
I couldn't figure it out for the longest time
No worries, both those are hiccups that get a lot of folks when setting it up. Good luck with it
I Want to fix that
i keep getting these unless i change the EDID to 1080p. i juist want to stream at 4k. i have a great pc, 4k60pro mk2 CC, 4k 120hz tv. ive installed the drivers use elgato studio and utility capture but i cant get it to work smh. works perfect for my switch but not my ps5
thank you in advance for taking the time to help out
The Elgato 4k60 Pro MK2 is HDMI 2.0 and doesn't support 4k 120hz signals
it can only go up to 4k 60hz
Switch 2 is working because it doesn't activate 120hz mode unless a game requests it
ive tried 4k60 and still get this
This looks like what happens when you have the card in a X1 PCIe slot instead of x4, right down to only working up to around 1080p60
What's your motherboard model and what slot do you have the card in?
yeah that board's other slots only run in x1
gotcha lol so im cooked
@past basin @humble glen Thank you for your help! Now Ik what the problem is and will work towards a better board
You might consider a different card too if that's more affordable - 4K X for example only needs USB 10 Gbps (3.2 Gen 2) which that board has (1 USB-C on the back with 3.2 Gen 2), and you might be able to sell the old card on a local marketplace to offset the cost easier than a motherboard (unless the board is still returnable).
The two cards do have some tradeoffs with each other- (for example 4K X has HDMI 2.1 support and can capture up to 4K144 - though beyond 4K60 it uses MJPEG so has slightly higher latency on the recording, though 4K60 Pro MK2 does HDR capture on every resolution it supports - 4K X can only record it at 60 hz on most resolutions, 30 at 4K. So it would depend a bit on what you're planning to record
The card can only be used by one app at a time. Capture cards show up to the computer as a camera so any app that uses a camera might be using it as well - common culprits are things like NVidia Broadcast's Virtual Camera, other caputre apps like OBS, video call apps like Teams, etc. If you have Windows 11 you can check the Windows Privacy Settings, and under the camera section there's a pull down list for apps recently using any camera - check that nothing listed there is using your capture card. You should also check in there that the options for apps and Desktop apps to use cameras is enabled.
It would help to know what card you're using there and if this ever worked before.
Only one application at a time can use the capture card if it’s external. If it’s a PCIE card it should allow you to have software open and this.
Q: I can't figure out how to easily record my screen when playing a game. I just bought a HD60x and it acts as a third monitor on my computer, but I don't want to play my game on ElGato's screen. Is there a way to tell elgato to capture/record my main monitor?
duplicate your display to the capture card through windows settings
Yeah either make the capture card a duplicate of the primary display, or you can even run your GPU straight into the capture card and then connect the output to your main display, treating it the way a console would.
Thanks but When I try to duplicate it reverts back to extended. It won't stay
Thanks but if I connect my gpu to el gato and then to my curve monitor, I lose a lot of resolution and is not good for my game. I suppose the duplication does not work because the differences in resolution also. So maybe elgato is not a soultion for my screen recording. I will continue to use OBS, eventhoug OBS uses a lot of my PC resources.
Your card should be able to match your resolution. Might be set wrong
Check for GPU driver updates - there was a recent NVidia driver version that kept failing to duplicate.
That said, this sounds like a singple computer setup - there's no real benefit to a capture card there, because the video encoding is still done by the GPU and CPU. For PC capture the benefit is dual PC because you can use the CPU and GPU on a second computer. Other than that a capture card just provides a video input for things lilke cameras and consoles.
That would make sense. Thanks
Would it be better to use the Elgato HD60S on Game Capture HD or on 4K Capture Utility? mine seems to have a problem where after a while it would stop recording and not sure why.
4K Capture Utility is newer, but doesn’t have some things like Direct Twitch Streaming that Game Capture HD had. So this is hard to answer. You can also use third party apps like OBS Studio or Meld Studio so there are even more options
One thing I will say - do NOT update the firmware on HD60 S using Game Capture HD. There’s an issue where it can overwrite firmwares that came out after the app was discontinued and basically brick the card.
oh thats fun to know.
good thing updated all of that years ago....
got my HD60S a few months ago too
Yeah - the issue is because it doesn’t recognize the newer firmware it’ll try to tell you there’s an update. 4K Capture Utilities updates are fine for it though
you're not forced to use Elgato's software when using their cards, you can easily just use OBS
never used OBS to try to record either Elgatos though. with Game Capture & 4K Capture i never tried it
not sure what that has to do with anything but ok
your subject is inquiring on what software to use, OBS gives you the most freedom when it comes to your card. I'd only treat capture utility as a way to change EDID
besides that. with the Neo having 4K Passthorugh but not able to record at 4K & only 1080P. can it still take 4K screenshots though? I see it's on sale and going to buy it
the capture output would be what you're screenshotting. Passthrough just goes to your monitor/tv for minimal input delay
Between 4K Game Capture and HD Game Capture. Didn't included OBS for a reason as i don't plan on using OBS. but the option to have it is nice to have
main reason why use GCHD is because you can trim videos with that. 4KCU doesn't have that and neither does Elgato Studios which IMO is a massive downgrade. having 1440p/4K is great but missing that is worth using the older software to me
Can anyone help with the best PS5 and Capture Utility settings to reduce color banding? I have noticeable color banding in the HDMI capture using the PS5 with the Elgato 4KX and I just want to know if it can be fixed or not.
Does Elgato Studio allow you to change bitrate for recordings or it's set to a preset and can't change it?
Is it on passthrough or capture/preview? Also is the card's firmware fully updated? There was an update to resolve banding in some scenarios a couple months ago
Not yet. Lliekly to be added in the future but right now it's a fairly simple app.
I'm on 24.12.10, on the capture preview.
Current is 25.02.10. So that might help. If you're behind make sure 4KCU is up to date on the general tab and see if the update firmware button becomes available then.
You can also update with the new Elgato Studio app
Aside from that there are some thigns that can cause banding like HDR to SDR tonemapping, is whatever you're capturing running HDR by any chance?
Forgot to mention I'm on Mac btw. The app ver. is 1.3.1 which says I have the latest firmware when I click "Update Firmware..."
Is 25.02.10 available on Mac?
Use Elgato Studio instead of Capture Device Utility here then
It's come out since the last udpate to the Utility and should have the newer firmware
OK, just downloaded that. It doesn't seem to display my card's firmware version correctly though.
Oh nvm restarted and now I can see it. Updating the firmware now.
Having a hard time streaming the switch 2 gameplay and pc audio at the same time without audio echoing
Unfortunately, that didn't help and only made the problem worse. Now my 2K60 signal I was using looks super compressed and the banding is even worse :/
Is your 4K X running in 10 Gbps mode? and is HDR disabled on whatever you're capturing? (I think 10 Gbps mode still has to be enabled in the older Capture Device Utility by hodling down the option key to show it)
Yes, using 10 Gbps mode and the content is SDR.
The banding is super obvious in the PS5 menu gradients.
Does it change at all if you fullscreen the app? It migh tbe partly scaling artifacts.
Also what does it look like in other apps? Does any app perform better with it than others?
When I full-screen the app the color banding is still noticeable. The app I mainly use this for is ConsoleLink, there (on the right) the colors seem slightly different for some reason:
Strangely that app says that the output is 2K60 whereas Elgato Studio says it is 4K60, but they both seems to have the resolution to my eye.
If I can get 2K60 with no color banding I would be satisfied, not so concerned with 4K60 but that would be great.
I'd try something like OBS Studio where you can set the video source format so we can get a bit more info on what format it's trying to use (since that can affect colour reproduction).
Not familiar with the app you're using, but is the PS5 outputting 4K that you're scaling down to 1440p?
Not too familiar with OBS but I still have the banding there, and when I set the output to 4K it goes to 30fps.
PS5 can output either 2K or 4K, I've tried both and the banding is always there. But would you suggest running it at 2K if the capture card is outputting 2K?
Huh - it should not be switching to 4K30 unless it was stuck in 5 Gbps mode
I was more curious though what happens if you change the source properties in OBS
Set the resolution manually for the video capture device and it should let you chose a format. NV12 is what I'd start with
Bit confused 😅
At the bottom here I have the app settings where I can select a color space or format - nothing seems to change the output though after clicking "Apply". Then on the right are the settings for the video source but I don't see any way to set the resolution manually or set a color format.
I went through this a while ago with customer support -- the conclusion was that the Elgato 4KX cannot display 4K60 uncompressed on macOS. But I'm not really concerned with that, if I could just get 2K60 with no color banding I would be happy
There should be format options under video capture device properties too, not just the OBS Settings
That said even if it can't do 4k60 uncompressed, 4K60 over MJEPG should also be an option
That said don't set your OBS video to P010 genrally, the card is only going to be able to ingest 8bit video because of the macOS UVC driver, so you may want to set that NV12 too
In ConsoleLink if I select 4K60 I'm pretty sure it does this -- this makes the color banding even worse 😅
Got it, I thought that maybe since that was a 10-bit format it would help with banding but if it's not possible on Mac then I guess that's a no-go
You'd generally only use P010 when working with HDR when you're dealing with console capture
But the card can't handle it here anyway because of the UVC driver used - that only works on Windows atm. Maybe linux, but that's not officially supported
So an 8-bit format shouldn't necessarily have color banding?
no, since SDR is 8 bit generally anyway
Actually does the mac have a XDR/HDR screen? I wonder if that would affect things
Mainly trying to use it on Apple Studio Display which is SDR, but I can also try on the built-in XDR screen (M1 Max 2021)
Same banding on both?
Is it possible to capture my 32:9 monitor without it stretching and just crop it inside obs or something?
Cause I bought a hd60 x yesterday. May go back and exchange it for the 4k x
Just tested and yes, looks the same on both.
Is there a patch note for Firmware 25.2.10 for the 4KX ?
Is there a better way to crop 16:9 from a 32:9 capture? im ok streaming/recording in 1080p but i wanna be able to play my games on my 32:9 monitor thats 49 inches without have the black bars around the gameplay
managed to get this by Alt dragging in OBS but it makes it a tad bit stretched and the resolution looks blurry
Hey everyone so I’m having a problem with my HD60X I’ve got everything plugged in the lights blue on the front I have video on my tv but every now and then my screen turns off and losses signal and I need to unplug my hdmi cord and plug it back in to get it back and while I’m streaming it cuts of the stream when it goes off is there anyway to fix this?
Anyone know why this is blurry?
my elgato makes a popping noise on stream and in my audio mixer on obs but is fine on 4k capture utility not to mention i can’t hear game chat with my chat link pro i have everything fine i need help
i have an elgato 4k x on xbox
Try muting the card in OBS and adding it again as an Audio Input Capture source. OBS seems to sometimes have hiccups pulling the audio thorugh the video feed (I think it locks a 44.1 kHz sample rate that way, when OBS wants to run at 48), and adding it as an audio input capture works around that.
If you're not getting game chat, make sure the card is in Analog audio mode (This needs to be done with either Elgato Studio or 4K Capture Utililty - it saves on the card so you can swtich back to OBS after). Xbox is pretty much the only console line that has any ability to split audio when a headset is attached bulit in, but doesn't get everything, so it's possilbe you're sitll on HDMI for the capture card and not getting the game chat going to the headset/chat link as a result.
Hey everyone so I’m having a problem with my HD60X I’ve got everything plugged in the lights blue on the front and I have video on my tv but every now and then my screen turns off and losses signal to my PS5 and I need to unplug my hdmi cord and plug it back in to get it back and while I’m streaming it cuts of the stream when it goes off is there anyway to fix this?
On my 4k x I have my main monitor cloned with it and it'd limiting my resolution in game to the elgatos
That happens if you clone the card to the monitor instead of the monitor to the card
Though the resolution is going to get restricted by Windows anyway to match between the monitors
The refresh rate should not be
How often are you seeing this happen? Have you already tried swapping out the HDMI cable? When the screen loses signal does the capture card lose it at the same time?
Well my monitor is 49 inch and for me to play in the 32:9 aspect ratio I need the full resolution or it stretches, it was working earlier but my footage was blurry so I set the edid internal to the 4k and now it's limiting g my resolution in the game
4K X has no official support for super ultrawide at the moment, only 16:9 and 21:9. You could try cloning your monitor's EDID to the card as a custom EDID file to see if it'll take it at all, but there's no guarantee since that's not a supported format.
How do I do that?
You can use a tool like CRU to select your monitor and export the EDID from it as a file
Custom Resolution Utility
It happens about 2 times in a 6 hour game I’m not sure if the card loses it too but when it does I just pull out the hdmi that came with the capture card out and plug it back in and boom it’s back
Keep an eye on it next time to see if the card is losing signal too.
Also if you're not able to tell if the card is losing signal, are you using a single monitor? If so make sure the PC isn't set to put the monitor to sleep after a couple hours, some will let the PC shut down the monitor even if something else is using it, if the PC tries to put the screen to sleep
Can't seem to figure it out, it's just weird because it was letting me play my game on my resolution before, before I set the edid
I have problem with my HD60 S+ when streaming every few hours it just gives a black screen on OBS and I have to deactivate and reactivate in OBS to fix it
like every hour
@past basin I recently purchased the HD60X and it’s showing up as a black screen on either the 4K utility app or OBS depending on which I open first. I’ve been trying everything but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
That's correct - it's a UVC based card and on Windows can only be accessed by one app at a time. Whihever app you start first is going to get access.
What are you trying to do that you're runnig both apps?
What are you capturing with it? Is there a monitor in the HDMI out of the card? If you use it with 4K Capture Utillity or Elgato Studio does it throw any errors when it happens?
Hey guys i'm having some trouble understanding the capabilities of some cards regading HDR..
Does the 4K S passthrough HDR at 1440p120 or is HDR support locked at 60?
Passthrough should support HDR at 1440p120, but you'll be limited to 60 fps on capturing from that source if you want to capture HDR and not tonemapped SDR.
Thank's mate
The "HDR10 PASSTHROUGH Up to 2160p60" on the spec is confusing to whether HDR Passthrough was locked to 60 regardless of resolution
so just to confirm the 4KS can just work out of the box with OBS?
Yes. It's a UVC based caputre card so should work right out of the box.
ah
You would need to use Elgato Studio for things like Firmware updates or changing some settings like EDID, but for actually using the card should be fine without
mods exsist...
I think it's a scaling thing in nvidia control panel
When I played Super Mario RPG on the SNES, which is Virtual Console on the Wii. I caught that the audio is lost while I was playing. I unplugged and plugged the USB in the PC, the audio was working. What causes the Elgato 60HD X? OBS Studio doesn't have an issue.
I'm not sure which one Elgato 60HD X or OBS Studio.
The Wii to RCA AV to HDMI HD Converter to Elgato 60HD X to the front USB 3.0 port on the PC.
I have 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K with Intel(R) UHD Graphics 770 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.
I have video in the reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/elgato/comments/1nupchb/losing_the_audio_while_recording
Do i read this right as i can use usb (a i think) in my laptop and put usb c in capture card
@sterile ravine please don't DM people unless they've given the ok too. please post here in the #capture-cards channel. I'm not always available to help. However, in this request, are you using a dual pc?
Hows it going everyone. I'm able to get my playstation 5 captured on my hd60x via OBS studio but am having a hard time figuring out the audio. I can hear the audio via OBS and when I capture my ps5 audio along with my PC audio it plays back twice, does anyone know how to fix this?
I honestly don’t know how to fix this
And my screen will suddenly go black for no reason and come back on and when I check the recording it has reset
HI Arcsane I’m JameelPerkins asking can I connect my ELGATO OG HD60 with TCL AR GLASSES YES OR NO WITH AR GLASSES ADAPTER?
I suspect one is monitoring the audio to your default playback device, which might also be being recorded.
What audio sources are in OBS?
And did you do anything with the “listen to this device” feature in mmsys.cpl ?
no i don’t use that feature
Hello,
I have a problem with my Elgato HD60 S+ and the Switch 2.
I have no picture on OBS. I use OBS, not the Elgato program. I just can't get a picture. I've tried everything I found online and I'm really helpless now.
Already tried:
Swapped the cable
Different device
Uninstalled and reinstalled
Restarted the PC and the program
Changed the Switch 2 settings.
You are my last hope. Sorry for my poor English; I actually speak German.
Have you tried OBS Discord server. And dont worry i am a dane so english is not my main as well
i become by the programm from elgato no signal is not only obs
Ah i see. Mabye YouTube has the answer. I am still to use my capture card my self. But let me ask this. Did the problem come after Switch 2. I am only asking cause its still pretty new
Do you still have Switch 1. Cause i have a theory
Yes, but it is connected to the TV
When you have the chance try connect it to your capture card. My theory is Switch 2 is still so new that Elgato havent updated the system yet
but it worked in between but only briefly
Cause in Eu we are lucky Nintendo cant use the kill Switch on it. But they can in the USA so i think there may the some thing they need before they safe can let people stream from Switch 2
cuz its illegal in the eu to brick things that you have payed for
HD60 S+ is an End of Life card, it doesn't still get updates. But it should still work with Switch 2.
Make sure the Switch 2 is set for 1080p resolution, HD60 S+ can't handle 1440p. Also try turning of HDR when in docked mode - HD60 S+ has some quirks with HDR support where it only works with YUV420 instead of the now more common YUV422
@ripe laurel But have you seen someone streaming from it yet. I havent yet personaly
i mean the Switch 2 costs like almost 4000kr (in sweden)
Same here
Yes, many all Pokemon Streamer Fast e.g.
have make all of that but no signal
Mean while there pepole in here. Pic 1. Do you guys read it was usb in laptop and usb c in capture card
yeah
Thanks that what i wanted to know. And ofc thanks for the hlep
i have nothing open what use elgato
Do the software have any updates?
If you try it with the newer Elgato Studio app do you get the same error?
I actually only use OBS for the Elgato to play and stream but I don't get any picture
The Elgato apps can recognize errors that OBS cannot is why I'm asking
If you're getting warnings the card is in use though, check Windows Privacy settings for Cameras (capture cards count as a camera) and chcek the recent activity section to see what apps migh tbe interfering
Only one app at a time can use the card so check anything using a camera to see if it has been set to default to your card
ok 4k capture utility works for now but where find privacy settings for cameras i not find
ok it works now with obs too but had it yesterday once and then didn't even look
Huh. It's possible someheting was hung open in the backgroud using it. If it pops up again I'd check the privacy settings and recent activity when it's actually occuring
Probably not, that card is really old and limited to 1080p.
i
deactivate all but google chrome can´t
deactivate
thank you for all for help
Set the default in Chrome to something else then . When you serarch for camera it's under site settings
No problem, good luck with it
I honestly don’t know how to fix this And my screen will suddenly go black for no reason and come back on and when I check the recording it has reset
Again, you're using a single monitor, did you make sure Windows isn't set to put the monitor to sleep yet? As mentioned that can shut off some monitors even if something else is using it.
What do you mean by when you check the recording it has reset? Has the card lost signal too, or just the monitor? (the above may affect the card in some instances if the monitor powers off the HDMI port)
It would help if you were replying to my own replies to you and not someone else's btw. Makes it easier for other voluneteers to contribute
not sure if this is the right place or if I need to check OBS or astro. Using an alienware PC, ps5 and elgato hd 60 s. when I connect my astro mix amp to my elgato I lose video input to OBS and when I connect the elgato directly I get video but lose game audio to OBS
Short of an electrical short or grounding problem I can't think of anything that would cause that.
To confirm you're running an aux cable from the Astro MixAmp Pro Tr, from the stream jack, to HD60 S (Which is then set to Analog audio mode using the "Configure Video" option in the source properties for the card in OBS)?
yes
There's nothing I can think of there that should cause the card to lose video.
You're not moving anything else like using an USB hub or anything else when you hook up the mixamp are you?
Does the card still work when set to analog video before the mixamp is connected to it? Does anything work if you try 4K Capture Utililty instead of OBS?
When I just connect the capture card and activate it, it displays audio and video perfect. When I connect the mixamp I get audio in the headset but no video
When you activate what specifically? The analog audio mode?
I want to know if the card is just failing when set to analog audio
Without the mixamp connected
the audio sources in obs are my desktop audio and the audio from my capture card for some reason my desktop audio also capture my switch audio as well
so i have this problem where i can hear the game so i know it's connected, but the window isn't popping up
anyone got a way to fix?
I've run as admin and reset my pc but nothing. it's just won't pop up
i've even uninstalled and reinstalled
What window isn't popping up? What app are you using?
hey guys i saw the new studio update and it says the hd 60 x has a firmware update, how do i update it?
It should show you the option in the pull down in the top left for selecting the card
If it's not there go to the device menu in the same pulldown
this is what I see, no update button or anything
Huh. Hold down CTRL When you open Device Info and see if it pops up
That did it! Thank you :D
Game Capture HD
And you don't hear the audio until you try to start it? Does it show up in task manager as running? I knbow some folks have used the Windows "Listen To" feature to get audio without running an app at all, so it'd be good to be sure it's actually running in the background.
If you at least see it on the task bar click that and press Windws + Shift and left or right and it should usually bump an offscreen app back onto screen
it shows up in task, i can hear audio, and it is running. but its not showing the visual
it just shows that
Ok
Which device is “desktop audio” assigned to, and do you need that for something?
If audio is come from your capture card, just remove other audio sources.
im trying to get my pc audio captured (discord) and my switch audio captured as well I use a rode caster pro 2
Desktop audio isn’t the way to get discord in there, and this is pretty surely why you’re getting repeated audio, since you’re getting everything heard on your computer on that desktop audio source.
Try using app capture audio source instead. Each audio device you need to capture should be added as a source.
ok ill try that
that worked thank you
still can't see
I’m at my wit’s end with this. I use a 4K Pro (Internal card) and it works like a dream with my Series X. My other consoles… Another matter completely. My Switch 2 will only show up on the 4K Capture Utility if I swap it to 1080P, but I can play it natively on my monitor at 4K. But my PS5… It’s having none of it. I can’t get it to show on my monitor, nevermind my 4K Capture Utility program. It will briefly show while my PC begins booting up, but once the boot finishes, the screen goes blank, and I cannot get the PS5 on my monitor at all. This is a relatively new problem, and I’m on Windows 11. If anyone has a miracle fix, I’d love to hear it, because I’ve been at this all day. Turning off VRR, HDCP was already off from before… Like I said, my Wit’s end.
Nice!
did you tuned off HDCP? sorry ready the last part.
I can vc for a few mins, and we can try something.
How do I get rid of the buzzing noise from the mixamp setup with capture card?
Usual cause is a ground loop - is your mixamp connected with a 3.5mm cable to the line in on a capture card or PC? If so add a ground loop isolator to that, and it'll geneally take care of it
PC
3.5 mm though? If the PC and MixAmp get power from the same AC circuit in the wall (or through the PC itself, or a console getting the power from said AC circuit), the ground wire in the audio cable creates a circuit that can pick up an electrical charge and cause noise. Adding a ground loop isolator breaks that and prevents the resulting buzz
Yeah 3.5 mm, but the mixamp being powered by the console. I tried the pc, but made no difference.
They all come out of the same outlet
Yeah, isolator should do the job then. They're cheap thankfully.
Though if you have a sound sample of the buzz it might give better confidence that that's the issue
I had to put an isolator on my own mixamp though, so I'm familiar with the problem
Yeah, I'd assume that's ground loop. Assuming every part of this works without that noise when they're not connected together, that's the usual culprit for a buzz/squeal like that.
Yeah never had this noise other than when they all connected I’ll swing by Walmart and grab one or some
Thanks for the help
It’s not too bad when I got my ps5 audio playing but very noticeable when I have my pc audio
Yeah, probably more direct grounding then
i have unpluged and restarted my pc and turned off and on my nintendo switch 2, updated the app and uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing works
oh and i can hear it in wave link
Check it with the older 4K Capture Utility first - that'll tell you if it's a hiccup that's Studio specific
I've also seen it do that when it was expecting newer GPU drivers once.
obs cant pick it up
What error does 4KCU give though?
Also have you tried resetting the card? Unplug all cables from it, give it 15-20 seconds and reconnect everything
yes i have
Something else is likely defaulted to use your card as the default camera. Assuming you're on Win 11, go to Windows Setting, and under Privacy and Security check the camera section (which includes the capture cards). Look for the recent activity section and check if any apps in there are set to default to your capture card. Common culprits are things like NVidia Broadcast's Virtual camera, or video conferncing apps lilke MS Teams, Discord, etc
when i start up my pc nothing uses it and it just started today it worked fine like 5hrs ago
That's why I advised checking the privacy settings so you can rule out anything that's unexpectedly calling it in the background.
In case some app or other reset it's settings
Something might be doing a check that it's there and failing to release the hook correctly
Ohter than that try it in a different USB port. That should have Windows detect it as a different card and reset app associations with it
i cant tell becs i also have the face cam mk2
Is that OBS plugin updated for the new scenes API in 32?
Because that would be my first suspect
its not that,
that only opens when i open obs
Did you recently update windows? If so go to bluetooth and device settings, check under cameras and see if you have the new advanced options menu. If you do disable multi-cam - it breaks a bunch of setups, especially with capture cards
does anyone have any idea how to fix the minor audio stutters every few seconds when capturing from a nintendo switch 2 with OBS? even when I try using the audio as a source separately, the stutters still persist
no i did not
and it was working today and then randomly broke
That would be very helpful, thank you.
I have an elgato hd60s+ and when I plugged it into my ps5 to screenshare the recording was stuttery on the stream i plugged it into a USB 3.0 port on my motherboard with the original cable
More like some frames repeating actually
that's the card I have too
Does yours do that too?
i don't know about the frames repeating, but the audio stutters every few seconds
or crackles
the noise is a lot worse when using it with my PS5
so it's not an issue exclusively with connecting it to my switch 2
I did switch to a new PC recently so maybe that has to do with it, but I also feel like it could be some kind of hardware failure
While screensharing or recording
this card has served me well for almost five years but I have always had a lot of problems with it
For me it's only broken when screensharing
listening to it in real time, so screensharing I suppose
I am having issues with my capture card resolution to my playstation. Im trying to display it on my monitor in 1440p but everytime i do so it blackscreens. I tried plugging the ps5 directly into the monitor and it worked poerfectly fine sit led me to the capture card and idk what needs to be changed. ill send photos of my settings on it if anyone has an idea
I have the Game Capture 4K60 Pro MK.2
I think this usually turns out to be either HDCP or EDID setting.
And make sure to reboot and replug things between EDID changes to make sure they refresh properly before you decide if it didn’t work.
wheres hdcp
They don’t like us to tell you that directly. But you can find where the settings are in your console.
im still having issues
Hey all, I'm using an HD60X to stream Shadows of Yotie through my PC (OBS), and the audio cracks so severely that the game is unplayable and unwatchable.
Check your PS5 audio settings to make sure it's set to Linear PCM for the format.
Is it only this one game that's giving your trouble?
What specifically is black screening - the capture, app, a display connected in the HDMI out of the card, or both?
Windows or mac? Also are you sure you had the original cable? HD60 S+ doesn't automatically lock out on USB 2.0 mode like newer ones with third party apps, just becomes a stuttering mess when running above 720p.
Assumiung it's a windows setup, try using USB Tree Viewer https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html . Select the card on the left, then check the speed summaries on the right - there should be three speeds, Port, Device and Connection. All need to be SuperSpeed or higher for correct operation. If any are High Speed it'll give us an idea where the issue is.
How are you screen sharing anyway? There's a chance it's a software issue too
i screenshare the elgato studio app
and it stutters
however if i screenshare the whole screen]
it's fine
Try it on a different USB port. There's some ASMedia / AMD USB 3.1 Gen 2 USB controllers tha have some notable audio hiccups (I've been told it may be corrected by updaing the USB controller drivers too, but have not been able to confirm that myself). As far as I know the issue only happens on the 10 Gbps USB ports.
What are you screen sharing with though? Discord? or something else?
If you disable hardware encoding in the screen share app does anything change? Do you have the same issue if you try to screen share 4K Capture Utility instead?
I'm in Linear PCM, but let me triple-check.
Yeah, I'm in Linear PCM. The second I get into the 4k Capture Utility, the sound starts to pop through my headset (Razer Kraken V4 Pro)
There's still clicking. Would a PCI card work better for me?
That depends on what's causing the noise - sometimes audio software on the PC can cause interference too.
If you try the new Elgato Studio app, does it have the same audio issue?
If you're using OBS you should be adding the card directly as a Video Capture Device, not using either Elgato Studio or 4K Capture Utility
ohhhh ummm damn
App capture of a capture utililty can work, but it can also cause issues on some setups
Everything since HD60 S+ should setup the same way as HD60 X when you're adding it to OBS, so you can use this guide here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27fYbUln-Vg
In this video we show you how to set up your Game Capture HD60 X with OBS Studio on Windows and macOS.
▼ Click "Show More" for details and features.

► 4K60 HDR10, 1440p120, 1080p120, 1080p240, VRR passthrough.
► High resolution 4K30 or 1080p60 HDR10 capture.
► No watermarks, no time limits, no subscriptions...
Generally no. There are use cases for it, but mostly it's used for basic recording all on it's own, rather than feeding into other apps
Damn I have the DUMB
Nah, it's a fairly common thing for folks to trip up in
With any luck that might also be the cause of the audio hiccups if both apps are running
I hope so. this has been a stressful endeavor.
Yeah, audio can be a right headache. Especially on gaming PCs where lots of brands like to install their own audio tools that can sometimes interfere with things like audio capture
Keep in mind, OBS adds new audio sources with the monitoring (audio you hear) muted so it only goes to recording and stream. If you want to hear it through the computer yourself while live, go in to Advanced Audio settings (edit menu) and turn the monitor option to Monitor & Output
Thanks for working with me on this? Can we jump into a call?
discord
I see the ps5 in obs but don't hear it
If the audio issues keep up, you can also try disablling Windows Audio Enhancements -
Windows Audio Enchancements can be located in one of two places depending on your version and build of Windows.
First, you can check if enhancements are on by going into Windows Settings and checking under System > Sound and find your capture card. Go into it, and check at the bottom for any mention of audio enhancements or spatial audio (usually towards the bottom) and turn them off.
If neither are there, check the old Windows Sound Settings instead. Press Windows Key + R, type mmsys.cpl in the box that comes up and press OK. Go to the recording tab, find the capture card then go to properties. Check for any enhancement or spatial audio tabs and disable anything in there, and check the advanced tab to see if there's any enhancements or spatial audio options to turn off there as well.
Based on your audio hardware, software and Windows version and updates, enhancements could be in either of these locations, both or none. If they're not in any of them, you can assume enhancements are off
Yeah that's likely the monitor option there
I'm streaming to Twitch and TikTok
Not free for a call at the moment though
All good, thanks.
hmmm
I'm on a two-monitor setup. So I need a second audio input for OBS?
Did you already set the card's audio monitoring to Monitor and Output?
I don't know how to access the card without the utility app
That's in the advanced audio settings in OBS, the found under the edit menu like I mentioned there a minute ago
File > settings > audio ?
Edit > Advanced Audio Properties
It's inactive as an audio source? Is the volume turned down on it?
Or is it muted back on the main audio panel?
You might also want to check that the card's Audio Output Mode is set to Capture Audio Ony in the soruce properties where you added the card
I've been streaming PC games with almost no trouble
I don't see an audio output mode
It should be right at the bottom when you scroll down
Okay. Not sure why that's showing as inactive. Just add it again as an Audio Input Capture, and select HD60 X there. That should work around that
Huh. It really should You checked audio input capture not output right?
It is pluged in
Oh. Okay
Check in Device Manager
Is it also missing under sound and game controllers?
Its under sound and game
Are you using the new Windows Sound settings or the old style one?
Whatever comes in a PC purchased five months ago
They both do - but if you're not sure it's probably the new one.
I did click a button while messing around a few hours ago that might have disabled it in windows
Press Windows Key + R and type mmsys.cpl in the box that comes up and press OK
What's not there? The card in mmsys.cpl?
You need to right click in there and chose the option to show disabled devices first
the HD60X is not listed
And it'll be on the recording tab
You may have to restart OBS for it to show up in there now, can't recall offhand
Okay, that can happen sometimes with OBS too. If restart doesn't help, mute the card and add it again as an audio input capture
OBS seems to sometimes have issues with sample rate or other problems when pulling the audio thorugh the video from the card
Yeah change that
ohhhhh
Turn off custom audio device
That's fine, but you shouldn't need custome audio device on here at all at th emoment
okay unclicked that option and we are capture audio only
Good, that's what it should look like
there is still some clicking
If it still crackles after that, mute the card entirely on the audio mixer, then add it again as an audio input capture
No worries, hopefully that clears up the audio
Testing now
Saddly no
But thank you so much
It seems like lots of people have this issue
Yeah, like I said, there's lots of things out there that can interfere. How frequently is is crackling or popping anyway?
Also you should check that Windows Audio Enhancements aren't getting applied to the card. That can do it too.
If they're not in any of them, you can assume enhancements are off
It's a constant pulse when there's music playing
A pulse when there's music? Unusual. Happen to have a clip you can upload?
There are no enhancement or spatial audio tabs
😄
I'm from another dimension
I'm out of all my razor apps as well
still popping
I've got to give up for now.
Yeah, those tabs aren't on all versions, that's why you have to check 2 (2 and a half really) places there, depending on the sysytem.
You might want to just try setting the card up on a different USB Port when you get back to it later too
So I've just setup my 4K X & I have the screen from gaming PC capturing on OBS on my streaming PC, however I'm not getting any sound with it, Ive tried several online guides & have checked the firmware on the card is upto date. Is there something I'm missing?
How are you directing the sound from the gaming PC over to the streaming PC? Are you routing all audio to HDMI, using a mixer like Wave Link or Voicemeeter, or doing network audio transfer like WaveCast Beta?
I bought a 4k Pro. I have a 1440p 360hz Oled monitor i use. When i clone the display I only have the option for 720p in OBS as default / custom. I am not sure if i need to switch EDID but my clone video is stuck in 720p. Any help would be wonderful
That's expected - if you go over 1440p144, the resolution drops to keep up. See https://e.lga.to/4K_Pro_Resolutions
Workaround is cloned (or extended) setup instaed of passthrough and set the refresh rate on the capture card's virtual display on the gaming PC to 144 or lower (ideally something divisible by 60 for best results like 120)
Passthrough is unaffected
But the capture resolution drops
Wow thanks for quick response. I am going to read this. My goal is to stream in 1080p 60 but play in 1440p 360. I just switched off NDI because of the issues with the windows updates and lag.
Do you have any suggestions for a work around to achieve the above?
Anyone knows how to fix my issues . My Elgato is acting like my monitor instead of my actual monitor
How are you connecting the gaming PC ot the capture card right now? Did you do passthrough (GPU to Capture Card, Capture Card HDMI OUT to monitor), or cloned setup (Monitor and Capture Card both to different ports on the GPU, clone/duplicate the display in Windows)?
It chosen my elagato in switch it from Elgato 4k to Elgato hdr
The capture card will show up as a monitor to the device or computer you're trying to capture - that's expected.
Same question I just asked Gripped though, did you setup the connection passthrough style or cloned style?
I am running HDMI from game PC to stream PC into the "in" slot and cloning the display on the stream PC
Yes however when I play games it choose my Elgato
As the display
I’ll do some more testing
Okay, you're already most of the way there. You need to go to your GPU software, or Windows Display Settings, and where it shows the capture card as a monitor in the advanced options just turn down the refresh rate to say, 120 or lower. Should let you get 1440 capture on the streaming PC then (though sometimes I've found it helps to reboot both PCs in a dual setup if the settings don't take right away)
So you set it up like a cloned setup then? Did you clone the display in Display Settings? They should generally both be showing the same thing.
No, not using any 3rd party sound software. Do I need to?
If you want to listen on the gaming PC at the same time, yes. If you just want to send all audio to the streaming PC and listen there (where there may be a touch of latency), then no.
Windows isn't capable of bulit in audio splitting so if you're listening on the gaming PC, you'll need something to capture and or split the audio to go multiple places
That's because you cloned the card to the monitor, not the monitor to the card. They should both have the same thing on screen anyway, but if you need to flip it undo your cloning and clone the monitor to the card instead. (This is easier to do in NVidia Control Panel's multiple display settings since you can just right click the layout and choose which one is the source)
Either that or if you're uisng passthrough you have a internal EDID mode set
Hello!, i'm trying to "revive" my hd60 s to use it for streaming my main pc with my laptop, but i cant get any audio source, i already trie adding it like an hd60 x and it dosen't works, any one knows something?. I installed the software of game capture ando sound capture, but i don't think that the software are making any difference
That worked you sore are Amazing
Sir or mam
Glad to hear it's sorted!
How are you directing the sound from the gaming PC over to the streaming laptop? Are you routing all audio to HDMI, using a mixer like Wave Link or Voicemeeter, or doing network audio transfer like WaveCast Beta?
Only with an HDMI, i forgot to mention, that i use an hdmi spliter because i use my pc for work and gaming and i dont want to turn on the laptop to use the pc
Should I get an internal capture card?
Okay thank you! Just to be clear, you want me to turn down the refresh rate on the el gato through the windows settings. Ill still be able to maintain 360hz on the gaming monitor?
Do i need to change any EDID settings through the capture ulitity ?
Sorry to delay. I am talking between matches
Oh, and I don’t know if this affects in something, I only use the In HDMI input
Sorry if my English is bad sometimes, English isn’t my main language
So you set the audio in the gaming PC to go directly to the HDMI port? It's not going to speakers or headset or anything?
Yes, you can run them at different refresh rates (just not different resolutions)
Don't need to change the EDID generally, change it right in the display settings on the gaming PC
Im going to try after this game and sending you monies if this works
Will do. loading into game now, then ill be trying it
If your audio issues are coming from your USB controller it might help. What motherboard do you have there?
It generaly goes throuth a bluethoot speaker or my headphones
Then that's why you're not getting audio through the card - you're not splitting it to go to HDMI, so it only goes to your headphones or speaker. You'll want something like Wave Link, or Voicemeeter to be able to split the audio to go to two things at once. Or you can try the Wave Cast beta to send the audio between machines over the network instead
i will try the wave cast beta, since my laptop and my pc are in the same network by lan
let me give it a try
It work perfectly! Thank U
Glad it hear it's working!
I was suffering a lot the past days, you gave me the solution like in 5 minutes, thank u , i owe you one
@past basin ASUS TUF GAMING X870-PLUS WIFI
It looks like there's one free PCI slot. The 5090 is a big fatty.
Ah, AMD. Yeah, they use an ASMedia reference design. Do you get the same audio crackle if you use a different USB port? Preferably one further away from the one you're using if possible
I have to try when I get home.
No problem. Glad to hear you got it working.
Keep in mind though that Wavecast is currently free while it's in beta - that might change down the road. But if you can't swing it when the time comes there are other tools to split audio too (this one is just the easiest)
Yeah, looks like any slot on that board should do x4 PCIe at least, so should be good for an internal card if you go that route too
i'm considering on buy it when it finally realease
Hello all, i was hoping for some help with my capture CARDS, plural, if anyone is knowledgeable in this regard
my question is that when i plug them both in, it forces both my monitors to be 1920x1080, when theyre 1440p monitors, but if i enable stream link (beta) and set the format to 1440p60 it allows me to change the monitor plugged into the first card to 1440p, but theres no way i can find to repeat that process for the second monitor
and also, is there any way to get more frames out of the monitors than just 60 fps?
hello, i am setting my elgato and i have the video stuff all set up i think but i keep hearing this like whirring noise and occansional beeping for the audio coming from the switch, i dont know if i explained it well but i need help becuase im not sure what else to do, ive tried a bunch of different things to try to get it to stop
Stream link should have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the modes available to display - that's essentially a built in tool to create a NDI source you can import into other apps like OBS (using AVDistro, formerly obs-ndi) allowing a work around for multi app support for cards that don't have it. It has no impact on other settings like EDID modes that would affect available resolutions.
Without knowing what cards you have it's hard to know if they support more than 60 fps or not. Newer cards will, but require Elgato Studio or third party apps to go above 60 - 4K Capture Utility and the old Game Capture HD app are both capped at 60 in software.
A clip with a sound recording would help here. What specific card do you have? What app are you recording with? Is it connected direct via HDMI or are you using something like Chat Link Pro or a Mixamp? Is the Switch set to Stereo audio mode in the TV Settings?
okay, so after a lot of experimenting, it seems like the issue is related to the rear IO usbs
I had issues with both 5 and 10GBPS though
I also upgraded to a 4k x card
and while the issues I was having seemed to be mitigated, I think the issue does come down to those rear USB ports
since the issues seem to be gone when plugging this new card into the usb-c header on the case, or at least they seem to be mitigated significantly
another strange thing I did find out though:
with the card plugged into one of the rear ports with a usb c to usb 3.0 cable I have,
unplugging the usb-c from the card and plugging it back in without closing and reopening OBS completely fixed the audio issues - but with the (major) caveat of OBS not actually displaying any video
when I did close and reopen OBS though,
the audio crackling came back
so honestly I have no idea at this point
the usb-c header seems to be having some slight popping as well now, so I'm kinda at my wit's end here
also I should mention that I'm using the cable that came with the 4k x right now, so I assume that rules out any bad cable issues
the popping I'm hearing now also seems to be worse when using the elgato software opposed to using OBS
ok so according to USB Tree Viewer, said USB-C header is also 10GBPS sooooo I'm not going to use that
have you tried the front i/o ports if your case has any?
cuz from what you have said is that you only tried the rear i/o ports
the USB-C port I'm using right now is a front/top i/o
and I'm having issues with it
but it also seems like it's a 10GBPS port so that could be part of the problem
is there any USB A ports?
aside from the rear i/o
there is one
I could try plugging into that but I'll have to relocate my USB hub
i'll give it a shot though
@ me if it fixes it
i tested it a bit and seemed to have positive results, but I'll test more tomorrow to make sure and hopefully I can get back to you then
I’m trying to capture gaming footage off my ps5 I’m using a HD60S with the HD capture software on Mac but my game audio almost always comes out sounding scratchy and lispy. I can’t update the capture software cause it won’t let me is there a setting I can adjust to fix the audio issue?
Scratchy and lispy is a funny description. Are you doing any processing on the audio already? Lispy sound can sometimes come from too much deEssing.
You should probable give an example so we know what you mean.
Hey guys,
I'm running a dual-PC streaming system. I have a triple-screen setup on my gaming PC, powered by nVidia Surround. However, I only want to stream the center monitor. So far, I've been using NDI tools for this. I'm slowly running out of network bandwidth. Now I'm considering integrating the ELGATO 4K X capture card. Question: Can I still connect the "unknown" center monitor to the other monitors using nVidia Surround, or is that not possible?
Hmm... Surround is a big question mark. Does that sort of create a virtualized monitor to present to the system, so they behave like a single monitor, and the display driver handles which pixel goes where on the display side. At least that's my understanding.
So I think duplicating the display to the capture card will be a total no-go.
It might work to put the capture card in between the GPU and the center display, setting it up with passthrough like you would for a console.
Assuming the EDID can be set to keep the display driver and monitor happy, and of course assuming that nvidia surround doesn't just... I don't know... refuse to do any of this.
It's not something that I've ever seen come up. NV surround with capture cards.
If somebody with more experience pops up I'd be happy to be corrected. But... if the EDID can be set right, the display and GPU should kind of not know any different to the capture card being there or not at all.
So, the answer is maybe? A 250€ expensive maybe.😩
If nobody else shows up with direct experience, you could either ask #official-tech-support for an official word… or rely on a no questions return policy from the likes of Amazon
Hey guys I am running a single pc setup with dual monitors and a ps5 I have one monitor for gaming and my second monitor is using obs to record the game I have an hd60 x and im trying to pass through 1440p 120 on my main monitor for ps5 through from my elgato to my obs at 108060 but when I turn my ps5 settings from 1080p to 1440 it the screen keeps blinking on and off and when I turn it back to 1080 it’s fine I have internal edid on can someone help me find a fix please I’d rather not play ghost of yotei at 108060😭
Try different edid
Try merged or display. Figure out what works with the display and console talking together.
Sometimes it take a reboot and/or replug of the hdmi connections after a change to get it all synced and locked in.
Then I think once that’s working, then open up OBS and you should be able to capture whatever size you want.
Also, if it’s really having some issue, you can simply scale down a 1440p capture to a 1080p canvas in OBS.
The scaling options allow for high quality filtering. It could be argued this would result in a better picture, since it’s technically super sampling the capture.
Also try disabling VRR if it's still on. Sometimes a capture card and monitor don't agree on VRR specs
Ok it’s working now thanks
Hi all, i have a quick question. I have a left over HD60 X and i was wondering if it would work with the nintendo switch 2? ANd if so, to have it be captured to my PC, would i need to use either the 4k capture utility or the elgato studio?
Yes it should work with Swtich 2. HD60 X works with both 4K Capture Utility and Eglato Studio - as well as third party apps like Meld Studio or OBS
Ok perfect since i use Meld 😄 !
Hello, I've got a question that maybe you can answer for me?
I'm using the Elgato 4K X capture card and want it to capture my game audio while I keep my headset plugged into my PS5 controller. Right now, when I plug the headset into the controller the console seems to stop sending ALL audio over HDMI. So my capture card only uses my Elgato Wave 3 microphone audio that's connected to the 4K capture utility. What’s the best way to set this up so I can still hear the consoles audio in my headset but also have the capture card record the full playstation audio?
That's correct, PS5 uses a one audio stream per user model and mutes HDMI audio when you plug in a headset. You'll want something like a Chat Link Pro cable to split the headset out and attach it to the card (which can then be set to Analog audio mode to capture the console audio that way), or a third party product like a mixer or mixamp
Thankyou for the reply. I was able to figure something else out that solves 100% of my problem. I've got an audio port on the back of my monitor where I can plug in my headphones 🙂
Ah, that works too , limits you to Dual Sense for the console mic, but that's probably enough. Good luck with it!
Hey , need some extra help , my Elgato work when I’m on 1440 60 but as soon as I open a game it automatically switches to 1440 144hz and just black screen
@past basin
I recently bought the Elgato 4k pro and i downloaded the right drivers but he's not detected by the Elgato software
I use 4k capture utility
Can someone tell
Me how to make my Elgato stop switching the hz
Would need more info.
Capture cards don’t decide the refresh rate; the source video and the destination display and software have to agree on the refresh rate, and the it has to be within range that the capture card can use.
I fixed it . I had to force my capture stay on 60hz using cru
If your refresh rate was switching you were probably swtiching to fullscreen exclusive. Windowed Borderless shouldn't hit that issue. Generally Windows Display Settings would let you set it. But if the game chagnes the refresh rate, odds are it has it's own video settings that would have needed adjustment
Using CRU to change the available EDID sounds like a good way around it though
What motherboard do you have? usual cause of that is the PCIe slot is turned off (eg shared with a m.2 for an NVMe that's in use)
A Friend told me the same thing and this is the problem i move my SSDI and now it's work perfectly
Glad to hear you got it working!
hey, i need help with my screen tearing when recording from my hd60x, i've asked on obs community, recorded on 60 fps and the same output as well, along with testing the capture utility, updated graphics drivers too and still doesnt work
can anyone help me i keep getting no signal input
What are you trying to capture, and what capture card are you using? Also what sort of computer are you capturing it with?
What are you trying to capture that you're getting tearing? Is your capture source set to a refresh rate that's divisible by 60?
hi
does anyone know how to use capture card for 2 pc setup but still be able to game at 540 hz monitor
the monitor i play on is 120 hz, the one i record on is 60
What are you trying to capture though. Console? Dual PC setup?
console
Which console?
No im not doing anything it just seems to come and go at will. I have my HD60s connected to my Macbook via my PS5 and playing it on a big screen with headphones plugged into the tv. so Im literally hearing it live via the tv while recording and playing. Heres a sample of the lispiness but my voice is also captured via my mic.
Also do you have a video of the tearing? How bad or persistent is it? What resolution of video are you working with here?
Also make if your console supports VRR test with that disabled
HD60 S? What sort of macbook is this? HD60 S isn't compatible with the Apple Silicon ones, and only runs (sometimes) via Rosetta emulation which can result in really odd behaviour and limits.
That said make sure Spatial Audio is disabled on the PS5 too, and the audio format set to Linear PCM - that can do really odd things to the audio if not setup right. You may also want to make sure the mac's voice isolation mode is not enabled as that can muffle or remove game audio sounds.
Also make sure the card is going right to the computer, no docks, adapters or hubs in the way. Those can impede video capture performance in some cases
I’m using the Elgato HD game capture software and my MacBook is a I think 2018 or 2019. I’m sure my Spatial Audio is disabled. I look into my mic voice isolation is off. I have to use a dock/adaptor as my MacBook doesn’t have usb type a built in it has 2 usb c type ports.
Okay, that should be an intel era mac to so the software should generally work there.
Is the PS5 showing 2 ch audio?
Dock note was more for the other user - they're hitting video tearing issues
Ok sorry. Yeah I can see both channels
I assume it's all going over HDMI here, not analog cables?
Yep hdmi only
Also does turning down the card's volume affect the audio quality?
I don’t think so I haven’t moved the cards audio since I first set it
Any chance there's another computer, mac or PC around to test the card on? It'd be nice to know if we're trying to track a config error or if there's a hardware problem that follows the card
The way it sounds I'd almost wonder if the audio circuit in the card has a bad capacitor or something that failed with age,
It only affects the voices and mostly with either ps4 or ps5 games. My series x games don’t have this issue nor does my original Xbox or ps2 when hooked up the the same setup
oh, probably not hardware then. But what on earth.
It's been a whlie since I've had anythilng that can run Game Capture HD for macOS - if you go into settings for the card, what does the audio look like there? Can you screencap it?
In particular is there a sample rate option
I can later on I’ll reply to this message as I’m going out with my family thanks so far
Sounds good - I'm back and forth for a while on chores myself. Good luck with it!
xbox series x
https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Extender-Portable-Extension-Display/dp/B0D4L3YQJS can this work with my Elgato HD60X with my type c monitor?
HDMI connections are how these capture
Yes usb c hdmi adapter
Where is the USB-C to HDMI adapter going? The capture card cannot go from HDMI out to USB-C, but a computer can go from USB-C to HDMI IN on the capture card.
Those screens are listed with HDMI support so you can maybe capture one if you're using the HDMI connection
Is Variable Refresh Rate off on the console, and if not does turning it off help?
Also do you have a video of the tearing? How bad or persistent is it? What resolution of video are you working with here? What app are you using to record with?
did anyone else's HD60X audio stop working after recent Windows 11 update?
Oh wow, and video stopped working for OBS too....
nice...
Make sure you don't have it still open in another app - the video can only run on one app at a time
As for the audio, did any of your other audio change? If you check windows sound settings it the card still there, and did the update turn it down by any chance?
I'm postitive it isn't volume
shouldn't an elgato instance be in this section?
none is present
i have on it recording
HD60 X uses the built in UVC Driver from Windows
You can try to remove it from device manager (in both locations, cameras and sound devices) and then disconnect and reconnect it to trigger a reinstall
Gonna try downgrading my audio driver
didn't work unfortunately
my driver is from 2024, if it didn't update, then how did this happen?
the one that has the Audio Endpoint
Via two programs called moonlight and sunshine or Apollo and Artemis. I think you might need a decent router though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0jmqVIhwIA
In this video, we ditch Sunshine & Moonlight for in-home streaming and replace them with Apollo & Artemis.

gonna try restarting pc
is this audio problem a common occurence with all capture cards, or just Elgato cards?
Don't know - you're the first person reporting an issue with this particular update. That's why I was asking you to check the card on the recording tab first to make sure the update didn't turn down the levels or mark it as muted
Since I've seen past updates do that
You may also want to make sure Windows Audio Enchancements are disabled on the card, in case that broke with the update. If you're on the most recent update you need to check that in the new sound settings instead of the old though
yeah the first time my audio was gone it was simply muted
but now
Check the advanced tab and turn off the option that allows apps to take exclusive control too
It's possible something else is just hogging the audio feed after the update
Then check the new sound settings menus instead and make sure audio enhancements are off. (though if you see them on the advanced tab you can turn them off there - they're normally only there on older Windows builds though)
I legit wanna cry lmao I can't believe this even happened
Thanks for trying to help though man, I appreciate it
now i have another problem, now with my hd60 x. i have the hdcp off in my ps5 but it dosent have image in my obs studio, any solution?
Does it work with any other app. It's good to narrow down if this is an OBS hiccup or general problem.
Also keep in mind that HD60 X only runs in one app at a time, so if it IS open somewhere else already, close that and restart OBS
Only in my tv at this moment
That'd be passthrough, that's fine. Try it with Elgato Studio or 4K Capture Utility - they can diagnose issues OBS can't sometimes since they're written for Elgato cards
i fixed it haha, it was not connectd right
Thank u, again jaja
The device being "UVC" means theoretically, it should "just work". Right?
Like my microphone works...
but not my capture card?
ok i think i have an idea...
im going to unplug device
turn off pc
turn on pc
start hub
then connect
Alright well now it's time to try to get a refund lmao 🤣
spent well over 6 hours trying to fix audio for this thing on two seperate occasions
OMG
THE PROBLEM WAS THE GAME ITSELF
NOT MY CONSOLE
NOT THE PC
WHAT THE ACTUAL F
And I can hear the game in my headphones on my controller
bro.... the things that happen to me in my life 😭 ... the misfortune lmao
console was Xbox Series S btw, just incase this happens to anyone else
and game is Fortnite
Edit: actually seems to be a consistant bug as well
restarting game doesn't help
doing research now to see how this is even possible
Make sure Fortnite isn't Overriding the Xbox audios settings. Audio needs to be set to Stereo Uncompressed
<@&581565551495741448> there's some spam up there

Thanks
its off on the console, and its quite persistent with the tearing, very noticeable in light areas in a game, and im using OBS
What resolution are you working with?
Also is there a monitor in the HDMI out port of the card? If there is, does the behavior change if you remove it? It could be an EDID conflict.
Does the tearing happen in other apps like Elgato Studio or 4K Capture Utility as well? Does enabling buffering on the source in OBS change anything?
Also is the capture PC mac or Windows? And is the capture card plugged in directly with USB? Make sure it's not going through any hubs or docks if at all possible as some can interfere with video capture performance.
1080p, and it doesnt change if i remove the hdmi out and it happens with the 4k capture utility, windows
Try using 4K Capture Utility to change the Input EDID Mode (in the settings under device tab) to Internal and then restart the Xbox and see if anything changes.
What are the specs of the PC while we're at it?
GTX 1650 and an I3 10105F, im gonna upgrade it quite soon though
its never occured with this tearing before
not sure if its working with the internal thing, cant tell if there is screen tearing now
but with the internal switched on it allows me to see on the capture utility but not on obs's preview?
It shouldn't affect OBS preview - but only one app can use the card at a time so make sure 4KCU is closed out if it's still open and restart OBS
yep, got it now
still cant tell if theres tearing anymore, and i dont wanna risk recording and then an hour in, probably tearing, it usually just happens at any moment though
Changing the EDID should get the Xbox to sync better with the modes supported by the capture card, so with any luck that'll take care of it if it was a mode/timing mismatch between the monitor and capture card. With any luck that'll take care of it, but it's going to come down to testing long term.
So i have a question about my 4k s. When i turn on my PS5 and open the Elgato studio it doesnt pick up a signal. But if I unplug the HDMI from the capture card then plug it back in it immediatly finds a signal. Is there a reason for this or a fix? so I dont have to keep doing it and potentially ruin the hdmi port or cable?
Is there a monitor in the HDMI OUT on the card? And is that monitor on when you boot up the PS5?
Also is your version of Studio up to date to 7.0.2 - iirc 7.0.2 included a firmware update for 4K S
how was setting it to internal the solution though?
it was merged before i set it to internal
oddly enough it is not plugged into a monitor. I just use the studio outright I dont have to change any channels on my monitor, see
its literally pluged ps5 to elgato then elgato to pc.. thats it
EDID (Extended Display Identification Data ) is a list of timings and modes the monitor and capture card send out which will tell the Xbox which modes, and timings are available to use. HD60 X normally defaults to merged, but merged can hit hiccups on some setups, especially if things boot up while the monitor is off and can't give it's EDID. If the tearing was because the monitor things 60 fps was 60.002 even, but the card was at 60 even, telling it to use the Internal EDID of the card specifically can fix the offset.
It basically comes down to difference displays and the capture card not perfectly matching up the timings, so we set the EDID specifically to use one
so it just correctly fixes it to 60 fps?
If there's no monitor on the HDMI out, try setting your Input EDID Mode to Internal. In studio it's on the pullout to the side.
I'd still also check that your copy of studio updated to 7.0.2 (the new version has a pink icon)
It'll be in the pulldown here - go to Device Info and check the udpates tab to see what version the app is on
i just updated it and still having the issue.. how do i set the EDID? where is that found
Side panel -
Mine is Display as I've got a screen in the HDMI OUT I needed to sync with, but if there's no screen Internal works best
Hopefully. Good luck with it!
dont think theres anymore tearing, recorded for at least 7 minutes and not seeing much tear if there was any, thanks
I've been trying to connect my ipad to my obs or 4k capture utility for elgato on my computer and my audio is consistently choppy no matter what I do. I have a 3.0 cable usbC to usbA for my power source for the elgato and an HDMI-UsbC for my ipad that is going into in the input on my elgato. The audio is always choppy and I don't know what to do. I have an Elgato HD60 X
I'm having difficulties with setting up the audio for OBS Studio and my Elgato 4k x. I have the chat link pro connected and I am trying to make it work for PS5
Make sure whatever HDMI adapter you're using is outputting audio correctly (eg hook it up to a TV) and that whatever you're using on the iPad (eg if it's a game) is using standard stereo audio.
What specific difficulties are you hitting?
Audio.
That really doesn't narrow it down - there's a TON of potential audio issues with streaming setups. Are you getting no audio at all? Distortion? No audio in OBS but audio in other apps?
None of the audio is being picked up
Are you hearing it in the headset connected to Chat Link Pro? And did you reemeber to set the card to Analog Audio mode using 4K Capture Utility or Elgato Studio? (The setting will save on the card when set so you can use it with other apps after changing it)
I tried to follow the website but its outdated and shows conflicting instructions for the 4K X (it doesn't even mention the 4K X)
All the USB cards that use 4K Capture Utility setup the same way for Analog audio mode. Open settings in 4K Capture Utility, go to the device tab, set the Audio Mode to Analog.
If you want you can use the newer Elgato Studio app instead too - in that one click the button up top that pops open the side menu and the audio option is there
I did that, but no audio is coming through
Do you hear audio on the headset you have connected to the Chat Link cable?
Does either of the Elgato apps get audio? Make sure OBS is closed before testing
Also what do you mean output? That card shouldn't have any audio output options in OBS
4K Capture Utility
And your headset you hear the audio on is plugged directly into Chat Link, correct? Not a seperate connection or wireless setup?
Its connected to the 4K X and my PS5 controller
Are there any other audio settings on the PS5 i need to input?
So yes, you have a 3.5 mm wired headset that's plugged into the Chat Link cable then? That's what I needed to confirm - some folks try it with USB or wireless headsets that won't work with that setup
Audio output should be set to headset, audio format should be linear PCM
Check and check
Its a wired headset connected with chat link pro, my controller, 4K X and that is connected to my PC
Do voices come across but any chance and just not the rest of the audio? It's not uncommon to have noise suppression get set on the capture audio sometimes
All audio isn't registering at all
If you go to Windows Sound Settings, does the audio meter next to 4K X move? Press Windows Key + R, type mmsys.cpl into the box that pops up and press OK. Go to the recording tab to find 4K X.
Once you're there you should also go into properties for the card, and check the levels tab - make sure it's turned up and not muted. Also check the advanced tab and turn off the option that allows apps to take exclusive control of the card (you may need to reboot after this one for it to actually take effect). If you see anything about spatial audio or audio enhancements whlie you're in there, turn it off.
You might also want to check in the new Windows Sound Settings under Start > Settingns > system > sound and under the capture card, to make sure enhancements at the bottom of that are off too (if present)
It is, tried same cables and plugged into TV and sounds fine. Only on my pc it sounds choppy when I hook it up to OBS or 4k capture utility software
Toggle the card into HDMI audio again and back to make sure the setting took. If that doesn't help flip the chat link ends and see if you still get audio in the headset (since it's a passive cable, that's essentially a specialty splitter that should at least let us confirm the other end it the cable is good)
Do you have an audio sample of the issue?
Also check in the iPad settings that Dolby Digital / Atmos is off. The card only supports stereo / linear PCM
I swapped the cables, I'm getting audio now
Ah, glad to hear you managed to sort it out
Somewhat, Im getting audio from the video capture source, but not from the input or mic/aux sources
I'm not quite sure I understand. What aux source? Is this something unrelated to the capture card?
Also what mic - note that Chat Link doesn't split the headset mic. It's not a powered splitter so can't amp the mic line to split it without issues (or to mix it into the line level voltage of the main audio feed)
The mic/aux was automatically there when I downloaded OBS, do I just need the Video Capture Source for audio and video?
Mic/aux just gets set to whatever Windows has your default mic/input set to normally, it's listed in the OBS settings under the audio section (aka global audio)
Video Capture Source will cover the capture card audio though, generally, yes.
Why is it when I put headphones on in game capture the audio sounds low pitch?
They're bluetooth btw
Hello, just a quick question. This has been playing on my mind for a while. I am using the elgato external 4k x. its a good little capture card. Tho I have a Samsung G9 49inch monitor @ 5140 x 1440. I am using my laptop to as secondary device to encode all this data. Anyways.... How do I play my games at 5140 x 1440 and then get to translate to 2560 x 1440 on the encoding laptop. I find that its always stretched. the only way round this issue is decreasing my 5140 x 1440 resolution to 2560 x 1440p for this to work perfectly. Has anyone else had this issue or fixed it ?
so the elgato does not support: Elgato 4K X is designed for standard 16:9 resolutions like 1920x1080 or 2560x1440. It doesn’t officially support 32:9 input or passthrough.
will there be a update or other hardware that can help with this in the future?
You would either crop the capture in OBS so it’s using a 16x9 portion of your screen, or capture the ultrawide and have the recorded video letterboxed.
Or just set your OBS canvas to be the ultrawide resolution.
There might be some special EDID files that can allow capture of wider aspect ratios.
And the GPU driver might be able to scale the image but they usually can’t crop it, and I’m not sure how well that would work.
So the way to actually crop or scale would be to run OBS on the game computer, capture the display and do whatever you need with that, and then send the full screen preview to the extended display (capture card)
The OBS preview method will be by far the easiest and most reliable here.
okay. its just a shame that elgato cant bring out a update or other hardware to tackle this. tho i appreciate your knowledge i will look more into it.
You have to understand how little this is used. Streaming is 16x9
The alt aspect that’s coming into popularity more is the opposite; going vertical (astonishingly…)
So if they were going to add something it would more likely be that.
But ask @warped ledge as she does some messing around with these aspects in capture.
Not sure how successful.
When I do play around with those aspect ratios, would I get is that Max 21 x 9, that looks decent, but if I go higher the other 32 x 9 unless I’m recording directly from OBS as a game capture, versus using a capture card, it will make the video like 1080 P but with 32 x 9 inside of it, it doesn’t work well. There’s no capture card that can do that quite yet but 21 x 9 is possible.
Hello, it's been ages since I've setup my HD60s to stream my ps5 for my mate on discord but I'm running into an issue. For some reason when I stream under devices on discord, my mic is picked up on stream echoing and can barely hear the game audio. Is there a way to fix this?
I remember I used to stream through devices on discord, everything was fine and never had this sort of problem until now.
Discord changes things often.
The settings for audio device have moved around and at this point they are even different between nitro and not…
Poke around in there to find the audio options to pick the right device.
Yeah I'm not sure now tbh. I've been going around in settings and still cant find anything. Can confirm it is discord because testing through obs, its perfect.
When I click OBS virtual camera under devices, the issue is there so no idea whats going on with discord.
I think it’s in this channel. Arcsane shared some screen shots that might help; because he was able to see the options both ways
Found it
Absolute legend. That fixed it, thank you so much!
Hi, Facing issue with Capture Card 4K X - Mac m1 - No signal any suggestions? - MAC os sonomo
it does show up - No output in Streamlabs
it's under video capture what are you selecting in streamlabs?
Also are you getting the "Elgato - No Signal" screen, or a black screen? One of those means the card isn't getting signal, the other that something between the card and computer isn't playing ball.
hey its working now, sorry about that..! i did not know that HDCP has to be turned off
thanks
thanks
Glad you were able to sort it out!
on my 120hz monitor there is no screen tearing??
when viewing it on there
this is making no sense
and even when uploading it, it has no tearing?
What refresh rate did you record at, and if you watch the recording on another device (move the actual file to your phone or something) do you get the tearing?
You might be getting some sort of tearing on playback on that machine entirely
i was recording at 120 hz, if we're talking about the one im playing on i think, and on my phone there was no tear either, while it is a 60 hz phone as well
my recording monitor is 60 hz
When you upload if you upload to a service like Youtube your video will often be reprocessed so you want to work with the raw video file when troubleshooting.
But if the video is 120fps and you're watching it on a 60 Hz monitor it might just be a playback issue. What app are you using to play it back? Does using a different app (I usually test with VLC Player) help?
i tested on the films and tv app which is built in and didnt see any tearing, but when using something like vlc there was tearing
along with that i was recording at 60 fps, and it keeps appearing anywhere on vlc, same frame and different areas of tear
i can send a link to a youtube video if you can see any tear either
hello everyone, i just recived my neo capture card to stream on obs, the card only works for 20/30 seconds before getting blocked and giving me a black screen. i already deactivated the HDCP
any idea why this is happening?
So it looks like it's VLC specific? What format is the video?
Do you get the same issue with another app like Elgato Studio? It would help to know if we're tracking an OS or hardware level isuse here, or an OBS config issue.
Also is there a monitor or TV in the HDMI OUT of the card, and if so does that also lose signal?
i tried both elgato studio and 4k, and the only one that give me a message was 4k saying that there is another app using the signal (despite obs being close), i have a monitor but it doesnt lose signal
Do you have Win 11, 24H2 update or newer? If you go to Windows Settings and search for "Manage Cameras", then go there and select your capture card, does it have an advanced settings section? If so - is multicam on - if it is, turn it off.
data format, not aspect ratio. Eg H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1
oh, H.264
the thing is i see tearing there and when i go back to replay it, its either gone or in a different time lapse
You can also check in Windows Privacy settings under cameras to see what apps are making calls to cameras and capture cards in case something is interfering. Common things would be stuff like NVidia Broadcast (virtual camera) or video conference apps. If something is showing on that list as using a camera when the card is inaccessible, check that it's not set to default to your capture card for its camera.
Sounds more like a playback sync error than an actual recording fault. How frequent are you seeing it? eg there's some things lilke NTSC Broadcast 60 fps (59.94) and PC (60.00) there you can wind up with a tear every .. .uh about 17 seconds iirc?
sometimes its frequent, and then i cant even tell if it appears anymore, and when i upload it, it just doesnt appear
as in when i checked again from a certain point, it just doesnt appear
i can tell when it happens as well because sometimes it just tears almost half of the screen, only at one point that happened though
i do not have that setting (i believe because my ssd is one of those that have some problems with this update)
when you talk about recording fault, if i was a random viewer on youtube as an example, would they see the tearing there?
Check the privact settings mentioned later then to see what apps are making camera calls (Windows sees a capture card as a camera). If 4K Capture Utility things something is using your camera it might be some app trying to call the camera back after 20-30 seconds, in which case it should show up in recent activity
im watching it as we are talking, and this is what is on
Yeah, that sounds like a playback issue, not recording. If the tear isn't there after upload re-encodes it, and only shows up during playback in VLC, I'm at a bit of a loss since the recording itself sounds like it has all the data without tears.
I'd assume they wouldn't see the tear on youtube if it's a local playback problem, especially since YouTube is going to re-process the video generally.
Further down there's a recent activity section too
You'll have to clilck it to expand it - it's not expanded by default like the other one
pretty much down there is discord when im sharing my screen
should i just preview my video on the 120 hz monitor? assuming thats better unless the playback issue wont change when i try 120
I'd give it a shot to see what happens if nothing else
If you're only seeing it in VLC it might be specific to the way that handles multi monitor setup with different refresh rates, in which case I'd expect it not to show up the tearing on that screen
Huh. Do you have an actual camera used for Discord? If so that should be fine, if not check that Discord Voice and Video isn't using the card for it's default camera. If it is change it to something else - may need to reboot after that to clear things up
What sort of setup anyway? I'm guessing and older GPU if you're not able to do HEVC ?
im using an i3 10105f and a gtx 1650 as of now, upgrading to an i5 11600k and an rx 6650 xt which i believe both have hardware encoders?
i have a cheap webcam that i also use for streaming, but that one is setup as a default for discord
cant really record constant qp either using my current setup so i might just wait for now, not long left
20 minutes ago i changed the usb port and it was showing my ps5 on elgato studio, but now for no reason it decided that that usb port is not good anymore
1650 should too - though I think it's only 5th Gen NVENC iirc. I'd have to look up what actual chip it's using. That should have HEVC I think though, just not 10-bit support (so no HDR recording)
If you moved it to a new USB port, select the card in the soruce properties again
As in set it to something else and set it back
unplugged and replugged and now elgato studio is showing the ps5 normally (didnt touch anything on the pc)
i think i tried once and it ran terribly
closed studio and checked obs just to see if something changed but obs is still showing a black screen
Wait a second - you closed Studio and OBS stopped showing the card? It shouldn't be able to show the card while Studio is open
Are you setup to app capture Studio instead of using the card as a Video Capture Device?
nono, i closed studio and then opened obs. im setup to video capture device
ok, so it was just working and stopped after time agian
Does this only happen with OBS or does it also crop up with Studio? Wel'll ignore 4K Capture Utility for now
studio works perfectly (until it decides that the port is not okay anymore), but if i close studio and i open obs the screen goes black, and those times that it works it only works for a few minutes until it goes black
If you do a quick test recording to generate some log data, then stop it and upload your current OBS log from the help menu and run it through their log analyzer at https://obsproject.com/tools/analyzer does it throw any notable errors?
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Stream to Twitch, YouTube and many other providers or record your own videos with high quality H264 / AAC encoding.
just the hardware accelerated gpu scheduler
Any chance this issue started after an OBS upgrade? If so does using a previous version clear it up?
if i recall correctly that problem was there waay before today, but it never gave me any issue
now im just doing some random test:
opening studio, makign sure it works, closing studio and opening obs and seeing how long it last before it crash and now i reached the lowest time of all: 29.40 sec
Have you already tried removing the card from OBS entirely and adding it back to make sure it's reset to default settings in OBS
Also if you go to the Device Info menu in Studio, are there any firmware udpates?
that was the first thing that i did when i downloaded studio, now im in version Base: 25.7.16 MCU: 23.7.19
tried multiple times, also tried with obs streamlabs for curiosity, but same results
I don't get why it's only failing on OBS is the thing. that sounds like settings mismatch or other problems. Does anything change if you set it up in a fresh OBS Scene?
huh
Yeah, Streamlabs uses the same base code as OBS for the most part so that's not terribly surprising I guess.
Something like Meld Studio might get different results
yep tried and retried thinking it was me doing something stupidly wrong
On the latest OBS, 32, as well?
32.0.1
thinking to contact elgato support online, but i assume that they will get the same solutions that you are giving me
Maybe - they may be able to see something in the logs with the log collection tool as well though
The fact it works in Studio but not OBS or Streamlabs Desktop is weird. The fact 4K capture utility reports another app using it is also weird.
You might want to try going to 4K Capture Utility, hit reset defaults in the bottom left of settings, unplug the card, shut down the PC, wait 20 seconds, restart then reconnect the card after the PC loads up. That should clear any possible issues with data stuck in NVRAM
now im trying 4k, this one doesnt get blocked or tells me that the device is not connected to the right port, but if i close it and jump on obs is the same look all over again, 20-40seconds before it gets stuck, now i will try to do this reset and ill let you know if something gets better or not
since capture cards seem to be really expensive + my pc disables the second PCIE lane so i cannot get internal capture cards to work.. is a Razer ripsaw hd capture card able to properly stream my Xbox console to my OBS instance on my PC? someones reselling it for just 50 euro
an elgato capture card starts at 180 euro.. 🙁
shut it off for 15 minutes and still going, guess that the elgato online support will be the only solution (trying to avoid the extreme solution since i really want to stream the new nascar game when it comes out)
hopefully this helps but I can get a better clip if needed
It's not terrible but the audio cuts out and just randomly gets choppy
Having an issue where Output is pure black coming from my 4K X
It shows fine in my pc monitor but when I swap over to hdmi it’s just black
And this hdmi cord worked earlier today
2.1
tried a new hdmi 2.1 still nothing to my monitor but black signal
turned hdr off and vrr on xbox and monitor
