Standard display cloning can work for refresh rate too - just blocks off some features that way like HDR

#

This looks liek the GPU is having issues with multi monitor more - either something specific with the card's virtual display or the multi monitor itself. You've mentioned other montors - are they all on the gaming PC? Does removing one help? You could be running into issues with the GPU's mutli monitor bandwidth, especially if VRR is on since the bandwidth would fluctuate then

#

Everything iv tried within the capture card has not seemed to have an effect. Currently I’m set to merged for input edid and default for internal.

Also just to give an example, ever since the video I sent, the same thing was happening. I hit my power button to shutoff gaming PC, classic “remember to save or X will delete” type of this came up. I hit cancel just to see, and now it’s working fine rn. Didn’t completely restart. I’m sure there’s a chance it will start up again. That’s how this time the flickering and stuff started today - was working probably 20min then started.

#

Depends on what the resolutoin and refresh rate for the other screens are

#

eg, a scren running 240 Hz is going to eat a lot more data than one running 60. And 4K240 hz will absolutlely destroy avaiable bandwidth for multi monitor applications

#

But it's an easy test at least - turn down resolution or unplug a display and see what happens

steep harbor
#

165hz 34in 2k OLED, 144hz 27in 2k (might not be running at 144 rn idk), then a 60hz at 1100x3840

#

It’s the screen attachment for the Hyte Y70 case - that’s the weird resolution

past basin
#

If that's what it is though, I'd drop the refresh rate on one of your non-primary displays to free up a bit of bandwidth

#

Or even drop the refresh rate on the card itself

#

eg set it to 60 Hz if you're only recording 60fps

steep harbor
steep harbor
past basin
# steep harbor Wdym?

The card when showing up in extended mode in the display settings of the gaming PC also has a refresh rate where it shows up as a monitor

#

So you can limit the refresh rate on the capture card's virtual display if it's a bandwidth issue too (assuming you're not actually doing high refresh rate recording)

steep harbor
#

Oh also the flicker issue absolutely bugs out my monitors settings to hell. Just remembered that I’m going through rn checking and going WTF lol

steep harbor
past basin
#

Yeah - if it's stuggling with multi monitor coverage Windows Display settings will lose it's mind as the rapidly disconnect and reconnect

past basin
steep harbor
#

I’ll try lowering it then. I have the refresh rate set to 1440/120.

I had this whole thing the other day, I can’t remember what it was, trying to stream/recording in UW 34in. Pretty sure it was something with the card not being able to take that resolution or something

#

Might need to mess around and remember what it was

past basin
#

You might need to load a custom EDID to even try it with that resolution. Right now 4K X is the only one with official Ultrawide support (and only Ultrawide, not Super UW yet)

steep harbor
#

And OBS just stops showing the screen from the capture sometimes after this, even tho the card is detected and everything in both PCs.

It’s just so frustrating man…I got everything setup for how I like it which iv been working on for months, but this is just so impactful.

past basin
#

Might be possibel though - the PCIe cards tend to play better with non standard res than the USB ones

steep harbor
#

More just a “would have been nice”

#

Yeah yeah that was it. I needed to switch the projection settings to the UW resolution, but that would force that monitors refresh rate down. I’m pretty sure that’s what it was

past basin
#

So things are worknig with one of the monitors on lower refresh rate? (sorry if I'm reading that wrong, it's late here)

steep harbor
#

Restarted the PC cause cancelling that last restart made a bunch of background apps not turn back on, and the flickering happening again. Assuming the monitor settings I made saved, which they probably did, it’s still happening

steep harbor
hollow gladeBOT
#
steep harbor
#

Working rn after another restart, settings did save, I was actually able to check cause no flickering

past basin
#

er didn't mean to reply/ping that

steep harbor
#

Tbh it working once doesn’t say anything, if it works consistently over a few days, that’s more.

Normally the “fix” at least temporarily, sometimes long enough for normal game sessions, is restarting the gaming PC, or having it turn on after the recording one. But it still can happen.

And if the gaming pc was to sleep, it might end up doing it again, unsure. Also I do have the monitors set to go dark after 5min of no activity (OLED monitor just to help protect it) so that maybe could too

steep harbor
# past basin That's a positive sign at least

Na dude feel free to spam ping me 🤣. I’m on discord a ton and keep notifications off, and I’m in around 200 servers, so I only check a server if I’m pinged in it and it’s one I was talking in recently.

past basin
#

Hopefully that's what it was, and the fix holds. I've seen similar hiccups with it in the past, but they're not a common thing to run into, and almost always a pain to track down

#

Used to be a lot more common when multi display setups were just taking off commonplace and cards couldn't keep up. Still see it more with laptops and docks than full PCs, but as those high refresh monitors take off it's harder and harder to estimage how many you can connect to a given GPU at a time

Didn’t take long. Can confirm it still happens. Let the monitors go off after 5min, waited a bit, came back, happening again smh

#

Also can confirm I think this is specific to the capture card. Unplugged one of the monitors, still occurrs

#

Whoa I just switched the edid internal from default to 3440x1440

#

Instantly stopped

#

But the monitor I disconnected still isn’t picked up, restarting and seeing what happens

Hi all! ❤️

I recently got a switch 2 and was super excited to get home and stream Bananza to my friends on discord. But when I play using the HD60X, the audio is crackly and the frames sometimes drop even though im capturing it at 1080p60
I'll attach a short clip that can showcase the sound

It does this in 4k capture utility, elgato studio and OBS. I havent really found a program it doesnt do this in

OBS can capture audio too, but it adds audio sources with audio monitoring off in case you already hear it - so by default it sends audio only to output (your recordings and stream). Go to advanced audio settings (gear in the audio panel or under the edit menu) and set the capture card's monitor option to "Monitor and Output"

Hello, I am dealing with a bit of an issue with recording. I have an Elgato 4K60 Pro installed in my computer with a 4070ti. I have a PS5 coming out its HDMI port into the capture card. I have an HDMI cable going out of the capture card and into my monitor with a 4K OLED. When I start up the PS5 and I am at the game picker I look at the settings in Elgato studio and I am indeed getting 2160p59 4K UHD. When I start up the game (Last of Us Part 1) it drops to 1080p. HDCP is off on my PS5 and I have manually selected 2160p in the resolution. I have also tried to change the settings in the game to fidelity mode with no luck. I am lost on how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now, when I change the game to Stray, I don't have this issue -- I get 2160p59 ... could this be a game issue? The Last of Us part 1 says it supports 4k so that's weird.

I wonder if anybug can help me? I have an HD60 X that keeps losing capture occasionally when capturing consoles that don't have a native HDMI output (in this case, my PS2 that uses a converter). I assumed it was just an issue when the game changes between cutscenes and gameplay for some reason, but since last stream, it's been cutting out during normal gameplay a lot.
Is this a known issue with the capture card that can be resolved somehow, or will I need to buy a new converter? hanayo1Bug

Hello I have a Canon M200 connected to a 4k Cam Link. I'm trying to figure out what resolution and frame rate the Camera is sending to the capture card. How do I do that?

Currently I'm running https://webcamtests.com/ and regardless of the setting on the Canon it's claiming a frame rate of 31FPS and a resolution of 3840x2160 (4k)

hi, i have an elgato neo capture card and for some reason the sound that i hear through my headphones from the monitor has random stutters, like im playing guitar hero and then in the middle of the song the sound goes quiet for a split second and goes back to normal, this is happening repeatedly and its frustrating, it only happens when the ps2 is going through the elgato

#

when im recording the issue is unheard, but it bothers me since im playing a rhythm game and i need to hear 100% of the audio going through to my headphones

#

when i listen to the sound of the game by turning on listen to this device on sound properties then there's no stuttering, but that also generates a small delay, and makes the ps2 guitar hero games unplayable since you can not calibrate the audio in the older games

#

that sudden pause in the audio is ticking me off

past basin
#

4K Capture Utility's Capture Resolution is set on the recording tab of settings

(or if you're using OBS you can set it to default and it'll usually match what comes from the camera as best it can, or you can select it in the source properties with custom resolution options - though the original source is still set by the camera itself)

# twilit vector display EDID compatible with G-sync/vrr?

Displa EDID pulls the EDID straight from a display in the the HDMI Out port of the capture card. If that display supports VRR tech like G-Sync, then it should pull through - there is a chance it'll select a VRR spec that is out of range of what the card supports though as it's pulling the EDID from the displau without merging meaning the EDID doesn't care what the card's own EDID compatibility is (usually there's more than enough overlap that this isn't an issue though)

past basin
# pulsar garnet when im recording the issue is unheard, but it bothers me since im playing a rhy...

Generally I would not listen to captured audio for a rhythm game for the same reason you'd want to play it on passthrough not through preview - there's a video processing delay as the card converts the video to something you can use and renders it on screen. On modern cards this delay is very short, say 30ms for a 1080p source - but that can still be noticeable in high reaction games like Rhythm games. Ideally I'd listen through a headset connected to the console, though for PS2 you might need an audio extractor or something.

Overall though that sounds like it might be a stutter from sample rate catching up if it's not set correctly (though it can be a few other things) - what app are you using for capture? Also you say that stutter doesn't show up in the recordings?

If using official Xbox party chart and game audio only (not other in game voice chats), they'll be mixed into the HDMI audio if you turn off the option on the xbox that mutes speakers when a headset is connected and set Party Chat audio to Headset & speakers

Do you get that same delay if you use 4K Capture Utility instead? There's not really much to Elgato Studio for config that should add anywhere near that much delay.

Hello, I'm trying to understand something. Whether it's with the HD60S that I've had for about 6 years or the 4KS that I just got, I don't see any lag between the HDMI on my screen and what's displayed on my computer at first. But the longer I let the capture run, the more noticeable the lag becomes, especially with the audio. I have to reset it about every hour to avoid a major delay. It's pretty annoying and I'd like to understand why this happens and, if possible, how to fix it.
Thank you!

Is it known that the internal HDR to SDR tonemap on the 4K X is bad and immensely overblown in bright scenes?

#

I'll raise a ticket about it with some comparison Screenshots, but no matter where (obs, 4k capture utility, or the not-even-feature-parity Elgato Studio software) bright areas in games are just super bright (E.g. snow areas or clouds in Mario Kart World)

#

The only fix I found is to use P010 and Rec. 2100 PQ in obs with an HDR Override for SDR: maxRGB to SDR Input Maximum 1000 nits and SDR Output Maximum 500 nits

#

but I think that uses a good chunk more cpu usage since obs has to do the tonemapping and processing of a 10bit source vs. having it done on the capture card

#

I can post some example screenshots in here as well in a bit if needed

warped ledge
buoyant moss
#

Instead of the override you mean?

#

I am kinda forced to do the HDR tone Mapping override otherwise I can't apply anything else since it's an HDR source, not an SDR source

#

I've tried at least 20-30 different LUTs and thye all make it way too saturated, and also overblown in the sky area (clouds) or bright areas (snow)

#

Elgato vs. the HDR override in OBS which looks much closer to what I see on my HDR monitor

#

And this is Mario Kart World for example

#

left side once again being Elgato's internal tonemap

buoyant moss
#

I also know that it's not a simple "oh just turn hdr to sdr" toggle, there's more than that of course. Especially the whole "crushing 10bit down to 8bit" and it never looking 1:1 😄

But yeah, as said it just looks really wrong

#

Yeah I remember this is mostly a community-helps-community Discord (I mean, as indicated by the category this channel is in haha)

#

I'll definitely be doing that then, maybe they'll look at the internal tonemap/s again

#

Could be that they might've tested against certain games or footage and that looked fine and most users probably are just like "Oh, that's how it's supposed to look like"

I'm pretty sure the hardware tonemap is fixed, and possibly part of the chipset not loaded in firmware. The in app one could maybe be updated since 4K Capture Utility overrides the hardware tonemap by default already when running.

Also if you're working with the Switch 2, is it working okay on a display in the HDMI OUT? If there's no HDMI OUT connected display don't forget to adjust the Switch's secondary HDR config - they made that step of calibration way too easy to miss. Most people didn't realize it was there for like the first week which made getting brightness right a mess.

past basin
# pulsar garnet elgato neo, idk what EDID mode means

EDID is basically a list of display data the monitor or capture card sends to connected devices telling them what modes are available.
It's set in the device tab of 4K Capture Utility settings. Display uses the EDID from the display itself, Internal uses the one from the card, and merged tries to merge the two (but may not be 100% successful which is why we have the other two available). I'd try Display and Internal and see if either one of them correct the audio output format since audio modes are also included in the EDID info.

If the streaming PC is on and I open Tiktok live studio, sometimes the flickering appears in the streaming PC monitor in Live studio. Or it suddenly disappears there and comes back to my gaming PC monitor. It cannot be in 2 places at the same time. It also happens when only gaming PC is on. It's not wired to split the mic, it only splits the audio out from the console - if you check the ends one is a TRRS plug that goes to the console which has 4 contacts including the mic, the other is a TRS plug with only 3 contacts, no mic, meant for the TRS plug in a stereo line in jack. If you heard your voice before Xbox mic monitoring was probably on, but that doesn't generally get loud enough to be useful. Passive cables like Chat Link Pro cannot amp the mic feed for splitting -generally you have a dedicated streaming mic you mix your voice back in with, which also provides better quallity and control, but if that's not an option you'll need a powered device like a Xbox compatible MixAmp that can amp and split the mic.

The only plug on it is for your headset, and that only passes mic to the console, since the PC end is TRS only.

#

So whatever video you were watcing they skipped over something if you were left with the impression it can split the mic too

Is your mic on the gaming PC instead of the streaming PC? If so you'll need some sort of mixer to do it easily like Wave Link or Voicemeeter. You can also use Windows Listen To feature to go into Windows Sounds settings (mmsys.cpl) and set the mic up to be listened to on the HDMI out or 3.5mm out you're feeding to the streaming PC with the main computer audio (though you lost a lot of control this way since it's just all or nothing and no on the fly volume sliders).

Note that if you have to go a distance a longer HDMI cable is more likely to work than a longer USB. USB 3.0 cables won't go past 10 ft without specialty stuff like active cables with repeaters or repeaters that convert to fibre or the like. HDMI cable distance can usually go about 15-25 ft for HDMI 2.0 with a good cable (longer with reapaters or optical conversion). For lower spec requirements you could even hit 50ft in some setups.

# urban charm Hey everyone. Hope you're all doing well. I use a 4KX with a PS5. Game audio com...

For PS5, if you're using a headset, Chat Link or at least another external splitting solution is needed, yes. PS5 does one audio feed per user, so if you connect a headset it mutes the HDMI audio, and if you force HDMI audio back on it mutes the headset (with the exception of Voice Chat which is always forced to headset when one is connected). The end result is you've got to split the audio going to the headset if you want to capture voice chat. Chat Link Pro is probably the most cost effective way of doing this - the biggest limit being it's a passice cable and only splits the audio out from the console, meaning you need an additioanl mic for the computer to mix your own voice back in. You could also opt for some Mixamps or mixers if you need to use the headset mic.

How delayed are you talking? The audio feed should be synced to the video feed by the capture card. The Video feed has a few milliseconds of delay for video conversion (the amount varied based on system, app and what card you're using). If it's only a few milliseconds you're dealing with a hardware level delay that keeps the audio and video in sync (this does NOT sync with the video coming out of the passthroguh port that bypasses all the processing so can wind up with the audio being delayed enough to be noticeable on some setups).

The image you're seeing there with the QR code is generated by the capture card - that's where 720p is coming in, the error display is 720p.
If you follow the QR code it'll tell you this error usually shows up in 2 cases - you're running a capture app set to a higher resolution than the input source, or you are not getting a full 5 Gbps USB 3.0 connection. GIven Studio is outright warning you you're on a USB 2.0 connection at the top, you have a USB connectivity issue. If you've already checked the port, make sure you're using the original cable or one rated for at least 5 Gbps, and under 10 ft, and that you're plugged right to the USB port, no cables or adapters connected that could slow it down (USB Type A to C adapters are a common issue here as most are only USB 2.0).

That error messages comes up for one of two reasons:

  1. You're trying to pull video from the card at a higher resolution or refresh rate than your source signal (in whihc case check the video settings of whatever you are capturing).
  2. You're somehow not getting a USB 3.0 connection to the computer - this could be a cable problem, in the wrong port, or an adapater or dock not working correctly.

That said the fact this option is on is an issue - that new windows multicam feature can interfere with apps trying to access the card directly. Shut down any apps using the card and see if it'll let you turn that back off.

Why are you trying to use a capture card on a single PC setup instead of software catpure like OBS? As mentioned before it doesn't offer any performance benefits. If it's not working you can exchage with retailer or with #official-tech-support

That said Windows Audio Enchancements can do weird things with the audio from a capture card too - I'd check that those are off.

You can check if enhancements are on by going into Windows Settings and checking under System > Sound and find your capture card. Go into it, and check at the bottom for any mention of audio enhancements or spatial audio (usually towards the bottom) and turn them off.

If neither are there, check the old Windows Sound Settings instead. Press Windows Key + R, type mmsys.cpl in the box that comes up and press OK. Go to the recording tab, find the capture card then go to properties. Check for any enhancement or spatial audio tabs and disable anything in there, and check the advanced tab to see if there's any enhancements or spatial audio options to turn off there as well.

Based on your audio hardware, software and Windows version and updates, enhancements could be in either of these locations, both or none. If they're not in any of them, you can assume enhancements are off

#

If that doesn't help, only other thing I would suggest is trying the card to capture the xbox on your laptop instead - would help confirm if it's a PC specific issue we need to track down or something with the card

You might try setting the input EDID mode of the card to Internal and rebooting the console to resync in case the TV is telling the console to use something like Dolby Digital that the card can't support, but beyond that and testing it with the laptop to see if that gets audio, I'd go through the official support at #official-tech-support instead of the community support here

It'll show as Elgato1440HDR if you have an internal EDID mode set, and selected 1440p mode. Extended Display Identification Data includes the name and identifier for the device so using internal, it'll show up as the card, with the set resolution you locked in with the internal dropdown.

How are you routing the audio from the gaming PC to the capture card? That's where most folks trip up - Windows only sends audio to one place at a time, so if you're listening from the gaming PC directly as well you'll need something like Voicemeeter or Wave Link (or an external mixer) to split the audio feed to go to both whatever you're listening on, and the capture card at the same time.

You've be surprised how often Wave Link is in the equation and not actually what's doing the splitting, or on the other PC. But that screenshot helps a lot.
The fact there's a warning sign on the capture card in the drop down for stream mix indicates an issue, if you open the drop down do you see any warnings next to it? If you switch it to another device and switch back, does the warning icon clear?

past basin
#

Usually when I see this it's throwning an error because something moved to a different port, or because the GPU HDMI audio driver wasn't actaully installed and it's outputting video only.

#

What are you using on the streaming PC side to pull in the audio and video? 4K Capture Utiluty, Elgato Studio, or something like OBS or Streamlabs? Does the app indicate any audio going across at all when it's running, and you just can't hear it, or nothing at all?

oblique star
#

I have both 4k cap and obs and for both there's absolutely nothing

past basin
#

If you go into the Windows Sound Settings (on the streaming PC), preferably the old one by pressing Win Key + R, and typing mmsys.cpl in the box that comes up, does the card show correctly on the recording tab? Does the volume indicator there move?

If not go into properties and make sure Windows didn't mute or turn down the card on the levels tab as it likes to do, then check on the advanced tab and turn off the option that allows apps to take exclusive control of the card. This sometimes requires rebooting to take effect

yea but without it it's not working at all

past basin
#

That should be fine, with it it's going to interfere with setting things up from scratch

oblique star
#

but how is not working at all better than partly working?

past basin
#

Because Sound Capture can do things like setting itself as default system audio output and the like which gets in the the way of troubleshooting, and sometimes of the setup in general

oblique star
#

okay I'm getting on the laptop again

#

now I'm even more confused

#

I turned it off and the sound seems to be working

past basin
#

Sound Capture was likely setting itself as the default device and redirecting things wrong if that's the case

#

You may have fixed whatever else was going on a while back

#

It can be a great tool, but if you're not actively using it, it can also get in the way

#

And if you're using something like OBS which doesn't always play nice with the default audio device changing it can introduce some headaches to the monitoring options

oblique star
#

nvm it was just capturing discord because discord changed my output to the capture card

past basin
#

ah

#

So we're getting discord from the Gaming PC now and nothing else?

oblique star
#

yea but only because the capture card directly was the discord output

past basin
#

That's fine - it does at least mean audio is getting from the Gaming PC to the Streaming PC for one thing - so we can rule out hardware failure.
If Discord is still setup to go to the card, does audio like sound board effects also go through or only voice? That might let us know if there's a noise cancellation tool interfering, which is an increasingly common issue.

oblique star
#

I can try but I don't think so because I don't have any noise canellation besides voice focus in wave link

past basin
#

A lot of noise cancellation runs thorugh Windows Audio Enchancements though.

If they're not in any of them, you can assume enhancements are off

oblique star
#

and the soundboard was captured

#

it's all off

past basin
# oblique star

Sorry, this needs to be checked on the streaming PC, not the gaming PC doing the output

I'm worried the streaming PC is applying noise cancellation to the audio it's getting from the cpature card

there's only exclusive mode

past basin
#

That's fine then - the fact discord sound board went through was generally an indication that might not be what was going on anyway

#

So the fact we were getting discord through but not the audio from Wave Link seems to indicate Wave Link may be the issue. Are you able to hear the monitor mix for Wave Link on the gaming PC through the arctis pros?

#

Also I should ask is Steelseries Sonar enabled? That sometimes doesn't play nice with other audio apps becaue of the way their 3D feature shims into the audio stack.

oblique star
#

nope I hate steelseries gg and downloaded an older version of engine 3 on my gaming pc

past basin

But do you get the monitor mix through the headset? I'd like to make sure that both mixes aren't broken

Hey guys really struggling with my Elgato Chat Link Pro via my HD60X capture card..

So I stream using an Xbox Series X on Twitch via OBS on my laptop.

On Xbox the actual livestream does not pickup game chat audio such as if im playing Fortnite crossplay with friends on other consoles such as Playstation, even though i can hear them and they hear me - the stream does not hear them.

I was told to get an Elgato Chat Link Pro, plug it into my HD60X - go onto Elgato 4K Utility app and switch it to Analog Audio then its good to go.. now everything is great but the stream now cannot hear any sound from my game OR friends chat, so its even worse than before. Please can anyone advise or help as to where I am going wrong or if anyone else is using this method to maybe show me how there OBS Sources for this are setup? I am new to OBS and streaming in general and would really really appreciate any help or advice.

#

Do you have an Nvidia RTX GPU?

past basin
#

It was added in Wave Link 2.0, replacing the older Nvidia based plugin. Does noise cancellation and some basic tuning automatically

#

And should work very well for constant droning noises like a fan

#

If you need a VST based solution instead, I've used ClarityVx in the past with good effect.
There's also some virtual mic programs out there that do noise cancelaltion like NVidia Broadcast (needs an RTX card), or Krisp (subscription based).
For a fan you might also be able to get away with non AI cancellation like RNNoise too, since it's fairly constant

#

(The VST ones can be loaded into OBS without needing another app like Wave Link)

inland pilot
#

If you ever tryin to make some music man I'm always down

past basin
#

Wave Link needs a Wave Mic, or Wave USB interface (Wave XLR, or XLR dock) to run. It can run with a Stream Deck+ as well - but Voice Focus only works on Wave products at this time

#

If you do have access to to, when you set it up make sure to remember to run your recording through the MicrophoneFX, or Stream Mix - effects are applied in software so they're not on the raw mic. MicFX is the mic feed with effects applied.

inland pilot
#

Okay. I only have a quadcast mix and a sterling interface so nothing made by them specifically I might have to try that Ai route

#

past basin
#

If you've got a RTX GPU, NVidia broadcast is free to use and a good starting point - you set your mic in that app, then set your recording app to use the NVidia broadcast mic. AMD has somethign similar iirc, but I can't recall the name.

#

Before Voice Focus was avaialble in my Wave Link, I used to use Clarity Vx which is a VST so you could add it right to OBS. It's paid though - (though frequently on sale, and one time payment only unless you ever need to upgrade it)

inland pilot
#

I have Mac so I def don't have that gpu unfortunately, but I might have to buy that VST. I spent my money on that MASSIVE plugin in horrible sounds so I can buy this haha

make sure your audio sample rate is the same as the Elgato INPUT device that goes into the streaming pc, the output can typically do up to 24 bit 48khz studio quality, however the input can only do 16 bit 48khz dvd quality audio. lone crypt
#

Does anything from Elgato have Linux compatibility? I’m not aware of it.

little path
#

From what I've read on Reddit, some USB capture cards work fine.

past basin
#

Given 4K60 Pro Mk2 is End of Life, you're unlikely to ever see more support added to it, even if Elgato does expand into linux support. It went EOL May 2024.

little path
#

This is unwelcome news then. Thank you for letting me know that since the only posts I see are "you're unlikely to see support anytime soon" which still provides some chance at happening. If it's EOL then yeah- it's not happening. Which is unfortunate. Back when I bought this card, I was running Windows. I knew even then that I would eventually switch to Linux because (obligatory:) Microsoft sucks. I was just hoping that by the time I switched, Linux would be supported. Guess I was wrong. Won't make that mistake again.

At any rate, is there anyone in here who can recommend a comparable capture card that is already Linux supported? Ideally Elgato but if they have none then I'm not adverse to switching.

past basin
#

If you don't mind the fact there's no OFFICIAL support, the current external cards generally work with any Linux distro that does UVC which is most of them. I might stay away from 4K X since some linux setups seem to have quirks with 10 Gbps USB last I checked (may be resolved now, it's been a while)

#

But 4K S, HD60 X would PROBABLY work fine since they're UVC 5 Gbps USB cards

If you don't need the 4K60 MJPEG encoding, I'd probably stick with HD60 X - it's been around longer and I can at least find some posts online of folks getting that one working with Linux, so I'm more confident that model will work than 4K S (in theory 4K S would be fine, but I don't have one about to test, and it's new enough I'm not seeing anyone else who's tried)

#

If you need 4K60 though 4K S is the best bet - HD60 X can capture from 4K60 source but only at 4K30

#

4K X may also work - but again not sure on 10 Gbps Linux USB compatibility

little path
#

If I'm entirely honest, I'm not sure if I do. I record using NVENC and into MKV container to prevent dataloss in the event of a power outage or system crash. Based on the MKV container, I think I do need MPEG but I'm not well versed in codecs/encoders.

You can set a negative offset if the audio is the later of the two.

Chat Link is a passive 3.5 mm splitter at it's core - if you can output 3.5mm headphone or speaker feed with it, it should work with Chat Link. (the biggest gotcha with Chat Link is that often people don't realize it only splits the audio out from your dvice, not the headset mic)

You could use Chat Link with a walkman from the 80's by all rights - it's analog audio only so as long as it's the right voltage (line level, so a headphone or speaker jack), it'll be able to split things

If you use a HDMI audio extractor no. If you're connecting to the phone with a headset adapter (and not just a headphone output adapter) the mic should be fine.

Aside from that Chat Link feeds mic only to the device you're capturing though - it won't copy it to your PC. So you'd want an additional mic on your computer to mix your own voice back in

If you need the mic, go with the 3.5mm to USB-C adapter, and Chat Link for best resutls.

trim robin

#

That's where you're most likely to need a full USB dock. I've SEEN a HDMI and 3.5mm adapter that wasn't a full size dock, but not in a while.

#

But a USB dock is most likely to tick all three boxes - 3.5mm audio, charging, and HDMI at the same time

#

otherwise dock or adapter with an open USB-C port you can plug another basic 3.5mm adapter into is most likely the best option

#

But mobile capture and support for devices can be a problem to work out when you need more than basic HDMI audio

If you're on a full dock odds are you'll have a data port (or many) as well as a charging port.

Do you have an AMD motherboard or one with an ASmedia USB controller by any chance? If so try 4K S in a 5 Gbps USB port. ASMedia (and the AMD ones based on them), 10 Gbps USB controllers have known USB audio issues that can affect some capture cards (and DACs, sound cards, etc etc) (Said issue can be fixed in some cases by updating the USB Controller Driver to use one other than MS provides, but that can be a pain to sort out)

If you can't switch to the 5 Gb port, try updating the USB controller driver from here, if you have an ASMedia chipset (or AMD which is based on ASMedia). # upbeat pumice Hey! Recording my Switch 2 via HD60 S+. Why does it load in with the same displa...

That looks like double tonemapping, possibly 4KCU not turning off the card's tonemapping before applying it's own like normal. Sometimes a PC reboot is all it takes to clear that up. Otherwise check if your 4K Capture Utility has HDR recording enabled, or you can even disable the app's own tonemapping by holding down CTRL when you open settings, and enabling the option ot use the tonemapping on device instead

past basin
# craggy relic It works it’s barely 3 hours and now the ps5 doesn’t display

To confirm you see the video on 4K Capture Utility, but not on a TV or monitor connectoed to the HDMI OUT of the capture card? If so try setting your Input EDID mode to "Display" which shoudl tell your capture card to pass your PS5 only modes that are compatible with the display you have connected. This option is found in 4K Capture Utility under the device tab (like in my image above - mine is currently set to merged). If you're using Elgato Studio instead it's found in the pull out menu from the side.

Yes - though it's a bit slow on the server at this hour. Feel free to drop the issue you're having and if someone knows how to fix it they'll get back to you when they pop in.
It will help especialyl to know what exact issue you're seeing, what capture app you're using (and if you're mac or windows), and what specific model of capture card you have (some have different potential issues and fixes).

humble glen

then configuring volume comes into question

You have a Rev 2 card - it is going to require a 23.xx.xx firmware or higher.
Why were you trying to downgrade?

#

There may be other solutions

frail mesa
past basin
#

But yes, that's going to be an issue if you want to use your PS5 to watch protected content

#

It's not exactly something Elgato can bypass without getting into legal trouble and having their products lose their HDMI certification, possibly blocked from sale

frail mesa
#

But before it would only turn the screen black if I opened any software like OBS or stream Labs but if my PC was turned off I had no problem watching anything

past basin
#

Could be due to different revision of HDCP being supported the new hardware or just hardware changes to the chipset used. The original HD60 was a lot more limited, and couldn't even change EDIDs, so it's possible it's routing worked differently. I didn't have the old card, but I've never seen any of the newer ones allow HDCP through even when the PC is off (though generally when the PC is off the passthrough stops anyway because the passthrough circuit is no longer powered)

frail mesa
#

Will I have power going to my USB ports so it's always powered

past basin
#

Fair - some motherboards have that. It won't help with the HDCP sadly

frail mesa
#

So at the end of day I'm going to have to disconnect it all the time just to watch Netflix on my PlayStation

past basin
#

Generally yes - that'll happen with any modern and certified card. We're not allowed to talk about the issue much beyond that here since this is an official brand server and there's legal implications to bypass.

Only other way I could suggest dealing with it that isn't bypass is if you have something like a HDMI matrix and more than one HDMI input available on your monitor. Run the PS5 into that - one out goes to capture card then monitor, the otehr goes straight to monitor. Then you could switch the matric output and monitor input and it'd be moving the cable over without unplugging. Still a hassle but it works just like moving the plug over

#

Since the capture card is removed from the equation

#

Already been warned by the admins once before on going past it with that, so can't help further with the HDCP issue, sorry

vernal bane
frail mesa
#

I get you I'm not trying to bypass anything to do anything illegal it was just the way that my old card works when I wasn't streaming or recording any game footage you know the pass through still let me watch netflix just means I'll have to do some creative cable management to make it easy to unplug the capture card and then plug in my TV

past basin
#

Yeah, the old card was limited to 1080p60 and much older versions of HDCP. A lot has changed since the early days and things work differently with the newer revisions - it sounds like that's one of the changes sadly. I've a few cards here, but none old enough that they'd work with HDCP versions as old as that card would.

Personally I keep my card next to the monitor so I can switch things over if I need, and had a HDMI dongle on the monitor so I didn't need to get right to the back of it all the time, but everyone's layout is different.
