i have no idea actually
i just turned off hdr lol
like it doesn't show up in either 4kcaptureutility, or obs. Am I missing something?
I had so many elgato hardware failures today, I'm just frustrated lol
Thank you, btw!
why dose hdr make my 4k x look bad how can i use hdr and make it look good?
i fixed the audio issue!!! i plugged it into a usb 3.2 slot, and boom issue gone
wooo
that is odd, it looks washed out
yeah and its not when i turn it off (when i turn hdr off) and i want it on becs it makes games look better and i use 4k capture to view my switch 2 also
Alright, thank you
Tonemapping in 4K Capture Utility is a bit different. That app turns off tonemapping when it runs and uses software tonemapping instead. All you should have to do there to record in HDR is turn on HDR recording in the recording tab of the settings - though it's an older app I can't recall if it can preview with HDR or is only SDR for preview off top of my head
You can use it to disable the hardware tonemappingon the card though - just hold CTRL when you open settings and under the device section there should be an additional option you can turn off that enables the tonemapper when you exit the app. With that off you can then setup HDR for other apps
Which app are you in that there's no audio? Also is there a headset connected directly to the Switch 2? And if you check in TV settings is the audio set to stereo (it can't capture things like Dolby Digital)
Do you have a HDR enabled display on the computer? Perferably one that hits 1000 nits brightness to make HDR actually worth using? It doesn't automatically make a game look better in every setup and can cause enough headaches that it's not always worth it. If you do though, try using the new Elgato Studio Beta instead (https://www.elgato.com/s/beta) and in the pull out on the side, turn off tonemapping. What you're seeing there is the effect that the card has tonemapping on - so passthrough video to the HDMI out port is still HDR, but it converts things going tot he comptuer to SDR for compatibility which can affect colour. If everything is HDR you can turn that off. (note that if you're streaming, platforms like Twtich do not yet support HDR, though iirc Youtube does).
ill try that
and it looks like i have hdr on my monitor
Hi, I just bought a switch 2 but the Resolution is only 480p. Im using a HD60S
capture card flashing red how to fix it was working yestarday
Hello, guys. My name is Yusu, and it has been at least a week since I started this. I have been struggling with a single problem with my HD 60S for a week. I have ordered a new HD60X after same problem no single
Hello. I recorded videos from Nintendo Switch in obs using an elgato hd60x microphone and hyperx duocast and everything worked, it worked last night. There was a picture and I recorded.Today I wanted to improve the sound and I did what was in this video and after that elgato has a black screen in obs and when I switch to another program I get the wrong output resolution. Yesterday everything worked Please help
https://youtu.be/HPhgJN21B8k? si=tZUhpf0PdkerQ2p-
In this video I'm talking to you about how to make the HyperX Duocast sound better. I've reviewed the mic (https://youtu.be/bhESxaM24Bo).
There are all sorts of things you can do to make the HyperX Duocast sound fantastic and these are some of them:
1 - get it on a boom arm and get it close to your mouth
2 - reduce the gain as much as possible...
Gonna need for info to help with any of this. Forgive me, but I’m not going to take the time to watch a video.
Please fill in details of your capture card setup and what did the video ask you to change?
I installed hyperx ngenuity and updated the microphone. In the Sound Settings, I set input and output to my hyperx microphone. In microphone properties, I set 96000 hz and that's it. I have a microphone icon on the bar at the bottom all the time, even when I have it disconnected. As for elgato, there is no longer the sound shown, there is no image in the obs and when I start in the elgato 4K program, it shows me the message invalid output resolution, and on the ps5 there is no image at all even on the TV. I will add that I connected to every USB and nothing. The elgato light turns red and goes out. Yesterday everything worked
Invalid Output Resolution triggers for one of two reasons generally - either you set your capture app to a specific resolution that's higher than the device you're trying to capture is running at, or for some reason the card is stuck with a USB 2.0 connection (eg, cable or port issues). Are you still using the original cable, and is it connected directly into your computer or through some sort of hub?
I've still got the same question as last time - what are you trying to capture with the card? A console like PS5 or Xbox? dual PC?
I use the original cable and it is connected directly to the USB on the computer. I looked at every USB input on the computer. Now I'm at work but I'm finished in 6 hours I can send screenshots of how it looks. I will be very grateful for your help
For the record, 96khz does you no good and only loads your computer unnecessarily.
This is a super common misconception that 96khz is better “resolution”, but in truth there is no such thing as resolution in audio, as it compares to video or images.
Anyway, I don’t know that has anything to do with your issue, which might sooner be a software incompatibility or maybe a privacy setting problems… but thought I’d mention since you followed a guide.
Hey so i have an elgato hd60 x and should i connect the high speed cable that comes with it to the in or the out port? Im using it for my Switch 2
You can also use the cable that came with the switch. Whichever you'll use go between the console and the HDMI In.
HDMI Out is for connecting an additional monitor or TV to watch on
When you get back you can try USB Tree Viewer too, to see what speed the card is running at https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html . When you select the card it'll have a section on the right with a summary for three speeds, port, device and connection - all of those need to be SuperSpeed or faster, if they're not it'll at least help narrow down where the slow issue is coming into play (assuming it is the slow issue not the resolution one).
Yesterday everything worked
Does the HD 60 X work with Mac M2 chip on PS5
This is all I get when I try to use my capture card with my PS5. After hours of trouble shooting last night, I finally got it to work by randomly plugging it in/out again. When I woke up, it stopped working again. I have also tried different HDMI cables.
Capture card is "4K X"
Hi everyone,
Think is possible to put 4k60 Pro Card in a external box to use with à Laptop ? I have already 2 cards but before, i wana try to do something with my actual card.
Thx
Hello! Does anyone have any issues with their frames dropping when previewing a stream in OBS? I’m using my HD 60X.
The stream itself looks fine, but when I look at the preview and OBS itself, it goes between 60 and 30
is your Monitor a 4K HDR monitor?
did you turn HDR on?
If you have a Thunderbolt or USB4 port available you can get an excetrnal PCIe adapter box for it - this isn't exactly a supported config though, and you'll need to make sure the adapter setup supports at least x4 lanes of PCIe 2.0 or higher. Without a thunderbolt port or USB4 port you're likely out of luck though.
If recording is fine, this might be a performance issue - OBS will drop preview frames to maintain consistent recording and stream if the system cannot keep up. Does it drop in preview if you try another app like Elgato Studio Beta (https://www.elgato.com/s/beta) ? Is there any sign of errors or warnings in your OBS log? (Make sure you're looking at a log where the issue has happened as it makes a new one evry time you start it
Is HCDP turned off on the PS5 Video Settings already? That's the number one cause for a black screen there.
Given you had it working briefly after disconnecting and reconnecting things this could be EDID related too - do you have a dislpay in the HDMI Out port of the card and if so, does that still get a signal even when the card is showing a black screen?
Yes, HDCP is turned off. No, the HDMI source is black as well.
HDMI Source is black? You mean the HDMI Output I assume? The HDMI Source would be the PS5 itself.
If you disconnect the device in the HDMI Output and then disconnect and reconnect the PS5's HDMI Connection to resync it, does anything change?
Yes, the HDMI output is black
No, it does not change
It will just randomly work
Hey all, so I got a buddy of mine that installed the wrong driver for his Game Capture 4K Pro internal capture card, having installed the 4K60 pro mk.2 instead, and now we are having issues getting the wrong driver removed so we can install the correct one. the 4k capture utility only sees the 460 mk.2 device (even though thats not the one installed) and is giving all 0000000 in the firmware version.
So in short, How do i remove the 4k60 pro mk.2 drivers completey? Ive tried all the normal ways, no matter what it keeps coming back!
4K Capture Utility will install the required drivers when it's installed, the card should not be able to load the wrong driver without notable manual effort to do so through Device Manager, since it's tied to device identifiers (and even then I think it'll just bounce back that the driver is incompatible if you try to force it - I've admittedly never put that to the test though).
If that's the same post from the reddit, did they confirm that the serial number reported by the card in the Elgato Studio Beta app matches the one on the box yet?
Because the fact the image they showed there reported firmware 19.08.08 initially which would never be on 4K Pro, only 4K60 Pro Mk2, and would not be affected by the driver, I still think there's something off with that card.
I'm worried someone swapped the cover on a different card and resealed the box. Verifying the serial would confirm since it's both saved on the card, and on the bottom of the box. If they don't match, contact the reseller as the card was swapped. If they do and the card still reports as a 4K60 Pro Mk2, contact #official-tech-support
hello everyone
looking to see if anyone knows why this is happening
i am streaming to discord a game from my xbox with the elgato hd60+
however, they can hear my game audio through the stream and the issue being they can hear my house essentially, which it makes it seem they can hear more through my stream than through my yeti mic
they can still hear me through my yeti mic but can hear way more of my house through the stream when i stream
apppreciate it if anyone has any idea
i am not using a chat link or anything
i have a yeti mic
For some reason my 4k pro is causing intermittant black screening that flickers
Can anyone tell me if its true the 4k pro isnt as good as the 4k60 mk2 for dual pc live streaming specifically?
another person asking about the audio crackle coming from the 4k capture utility, I have a hd60s and its only started after windows 10 where I've started having to use the 4k capture util
When I don't use console that connected into capture card (60 HD X) The color became much darker than original. is there how to prevent it?
Here is Original
If you have HDR on, and HDR tone mapping, it is a little darker.
4K Pro is essentially an upgraded version of 4K60 Pro Mk2. It should would the same but with support for more refresh rate and resolutions for the most part.
If this is as dual PC setup, are you using a clone or passthrough connection? (cloning screen with Windows or using the HDMI out on the card)?
Double check that Discord is using the correct audio input when you set it up for streaming, on the stream setup page and no adding in another mic or the raw, unfiltered feed from your main mic as opposed to something like a filtered feed like MicrophoneFX. You may also want to check that Mic Monitoring is turned down on the Xbox in some configurations.
Do you still get the crackle if you use the older Game Capture HD app, or a third party app like OBS Studio?
Its a dual pc setup, i was cloning my main pc with it. It was installed into my stream pc
Whats the other way? Pass through?
Passthrough is like how you hook up a console - PC to Capture card, then HDMI Out on the capture card to your monitor
In a cloned setup the HDMI OUT on the card isn't used
Is it your monitor or the capture card that's flicking to black?
This is how it was
I believe my monitor
But even on a second monitor it was doing some weird pausing
You believe? are both dropping off?
Is the video on the capture app itself or the monitor what's going black?
(or both?_
Both
It repeatedly just loses signal
And you say it IS using the HDMI out on the capture card?
ok
From gaming pc gpu via hdmi to capturecard in, of the streaming pc
Cloning the monitor
It's very unusual to have both having issues if they're not chained together. Is the GPU driver in the gaming PC up to date?
Yep
And there's no issue when the capture card is disconnected from the gaming PC?
Correct works smooth
For both to be glitching then it'd have to be the GPU having issues with the cloned setup somehow. I'd try turning off features like G-Sync/VRR/Freesync in your games first in case the GPU has issues handling multi display VRR
Is a 4k X acceptable if I want to get 1440p120 passthrough with the Switch 2 and a 1440p240 monitor
Or should I consider 4K pro
Even with no games it still happens on the desktop
The Switch 2 won't go above 120 so it should be fine. The monitor will just step down to 120 to match.
If you disconnect the monitor and just watch thorugh the capture card does it still flicker?
Il test that now
I'd like to confirm the issue stems from cloning
Thank you for ur help so far!
No problem - I may be in and out a bit as I'm on hours where work can call me out so if I go quiet a bit I'm just dealing with something at work
Thanks I'll go with that instead of the Pro. Unsure if I have the space to install under today's massive gpus
That does come up from time to time. Ideally make sure your PC has a 10 Gbps or faster USB connection - 3.2 Gen 2, 3.1 Gen 2, USB4, etc to get all the features of 4K X
We're on USB4 now? Guh
We're on USB4 Version 2 at this point (the USB-IF is TERRIBLE at naming things, someone needs to make them stop)
No worries! I just appreciate you helping
also oddly enough its working just fine now
Is that with both the screen and capture card hooked up?
yea
Interesting. I'd keep an eye on it, but if this was a recent issue maybe everything just needed a restart
its weird because i restarted everything yesterday multiple times
Also is there a better method than cloning ur screen?
How easy is it to stream the capture card in discord?
Depends on how cooperative Discord is on your system. Usually fairly easy - just do screen share and select the capture device tab and find the card.
Feels like Discord has an unusual number of issues with that setup on some systems though
Every other update I seem ot get audio problems from it, that only ever affect Discord 😐
Sounds like discord lol
Failing that my usual fallback is screencapture an OBS Fullscreen Projector window with the card on it
Might work with the Eglato Studio Beta in fullscreen too - haven't tried that yet
@past basin i forgot that i rolled back my nvidia drivers to december 2024 drivers, after just updating to the latest the issue persists
I think the issue lies in the most recent nvidia drivers
also the flickering only occurs when both the monitor and capture card are plugged in at the same time
one or the other works fine alone
That could be - it wouldn't be the first time I've seen one of their driver releases cause issues with cloned setups. If it is they're usually pretty good about having it fixed in the next release
whats the most stable update so far?
even set to extended displays it still flickers
Unsure - I'd roll back to the second most recent NVidia driver and go from there to test it out. Just to confirm the issue went away when you rolled back to the 2024 drivers, and came back after updating right? Just want to be sure I didn't miss something there where I'm in and out
i believe so
last night even after rolling back it still persisted
then today it was fine
when i updated the most recent again, it started again
Yeah, for that to happen on a cloned setup I'd expect it's a GPU Driver hiccup. If it were passing through the card to the monitor maybe EDID, but that shouldn't trip things up for cloned setups
2nd most recent driver still has the issue
i assume thats because its only 3 days apart from the most recent
Should i try the 3rd most recent?
I would yeah - sometimes switching between the Studio and Game Ready versions can impact it too
If the 3rd back doesn't work make a bigger jump. You might also want to restart after the changes to see if that has any impact
so weirdly enough it stablized on the 2nd most recent
Sounds about right - if it was a driver issue with the GPU they don't usually go more than a handful of versions back.
What resolution and refresh rate are you working with anyway? If it's something the card can handle directly you could try setting up as a passthrough setup instead, then it all just shows as one monitor to the GPU
my gaming pc/monitor is 4k 240fps. My capture card is set to 4k 60 fps on my gaming pc as a monitor
I stream games in 1080p 60fps tho
Anyone have an idea as to why, when capturing Switch 2 in 1440p60 to Elgato Studio with a 4K X, every time I start capturing I have to go into the Switch settings, set the resolution to 1080p, and then back to 1440p to get a stable framerate?
If I don't the image is really choppy, closer to 30fps. this is the only fix for the issue ive found
I've no idea why I have to do this everytime I want to capture and monitor
For context, I'm using display mode, color format bypass, and 10gbps per second speeds via 3.2 Gen2
idk why but for some odd reason my screen will freeze for a split second then massively speed up for no reason
Uhh so which one would yall recommend for switch 2 Elgato HD60 X or Elgato Game Capture Neo
both work with it, it just depends on what you want in a capture card.
I just want a capture card that didn’t hold back the console
On everything
HD60X is pretty great.
Hi people! I need help whit my HD60S+, i try to do all things but nothing happends, the screen all times says "not device found" and i dnt know how to do... Any help? Plis! I take today and my happines is killed
you're welcome!
are you connected to a usb 3.0 port?
Yes, i try all 3.0 i have but nothing
The device detects it correctly for me, it also detects it in OBS, but it doesn't send the image anywhere; the device simply flashes white and does nothing else.
Disable USB Suspend. Open Power Options: Search for "Power Options" in the Start Menu and open it.
Change Plan Settings: Click on "Change plan settings" next to your active power plan.
Change Advanced Power Settings: Click on "Change advanced power settings".
Expand USB Settings: Expand the "USB Settings" section.
Set Selective Suspend: Find "USB selective suspend" and set the value to "Disabled" for both "On battery" and "Plugged in" options.
Apply and OK: Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save your changes.
@obsidian fable Hi
Hi
first, make sure you have the console connected to HMDI In, and the TV/Gaming Monitor to HDMI Out. next make sure your capture card is connected to your streaming pc's USB 3.0 port.
make sure the cables are secure
Yep
Now the screen is black in the capture utility
Okay good news it’s showing up in obs but it’s frozen on a screen @warped ledge
It’s still black screen on capture utility
only 1 app at a time can work with this unless you're using a 4k Pro, or 4K 60 MK.2
I have a question。I have 2 HDMI cables that i tested out. they work completely fine and both support 4K 60 FPS, 4K 120FPS, and 1080p 120Hz when connected from the switch 2 dock directly into the TV. when i connect them without a capture card involved i get a perfect 4K signal. When I put the official switch 2 HDMI cable that came in the Switch 2 box from the Console to the capture card and plug in the other one from capture card into TV i get a signal, but it never reads 4K on the switch 2 itself. the one I:m using is the HD60X which says it supports 4K passthrough
So to confirm the official HDMI cable with Nintendo is connected to In, and your other 4k cable is connected to out/tv?
official cable is connected from Out port of the Switch 2 dock and to the in port of the HD60X, secondary cable which is rated to do 8K 60/4K 120/4K 60/1080p 120/1080p 60 from Anker is connected to the out port of the HD60X and to the in port of the TV
the TV is 4K?
The TV is 4K and supports 4K 120/4K 60/1080p 120/1080p 60. The TV and both cables support HDR as well
so its more than capable
Set your EDID to Display and let me know what happens
shows the system, but only allows Automativc, 720p, or 1080p from the switch menu, but says 1080p60 on the 4K capture utility
passthrough should mimic your TV, but your output for capture would be 1080p
then why does it say automatic with 4K blurred out on thw switch 2 menu
because capture utility says 1080p60 either way
it says my source is 1080p60 HDR on 4K capture utility
Perfect, thank you very much, I'll try again tomorrow. If I can't get it, can I get back to you?
its definitely something
The Elgato HD60X does support 4K passthrough, meaning it can pass through a 4K60 HDR signal to your monitor or TV while recording 1080p/60 with HDR. It cannot capture 4K60 HDR itself.
4K Passthrough:
The HD60X can pass through a 4K60 signal to your display, ensuring you see the full 4K resolution on your monitor.
Capture Limitations:
While it can pass through 4K, the HD60X's capture resolution is limited to 1080p60 HDR, or 4K30.
HDR Support:
The HD60X supports HDR10 for both passthrough and capture.
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR):
The HD60X also supports VRR passthrough, allowing for smoother, more fluid gameplay with variable refresh rates.
EDID Settings:
You may need to adjust EDID settings in the 4K Capture Utility to ensure proper 4K passthrough.
Cable Compatibility:
Make sure you're using a high-quality, 4K-compatible HDMI cable to ensure the 4K signal can be passed through reliably.
I saw you stated earlier. Try different EDID’s and see what works. @past basin mind hopping in, I’m calling it a night.
peace, I have a question about audio capabilities while streaming. please forgive me, I don't know the formal names to everything since i'm new to this...
I'm twitch streaming my ps5 gameplay via hd60x and chat link on my m1 macbook air through streamlabs.
I can set up the audio fine with the following settings/setup:
chatlink: long end into hd60x, short end in ps5 controller, headphones into female short end
psn: output device = headset
streamlabs mixer: elgato audio on
however, i have a few issues:
- I can't speak to anyone in-game (I can hear them, they can be heard on stream but they can't hear me)
- if I want to play music from my mac I of course cannot hear it or any other sound alerts from my stream
i'm not too concerned about the in game chat since I can use discord voice chat on the computer if i'm able to configure the audio to allow me to hear and use my mic via macbook and the gameplay audio also be heard through macbook/stream...I hope that makes sense. I tried google searching forums but none of it is working
what setup would I need for this?
Hello,
Whenever I boot up my PC, I'm forced to unplug and replug the USB-C cable from my HD60X due to a red flashing light. Once I do that, the device starts working properly.
The cable I’m using is the original one that came with the device and has worked fine for months — this issue has only started in the last three days.
The video feed comes through every time, but audio does not. After unplugging and reconnecting the cable, both audio and video work correctly.
I've also noticed that when I open the 4K Capture Utility, only my Cam Link 4K appears at first. The HD60X won’t show up until I unplug and reconnect it, and even then I have to manually switch to it in the app settings.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this or recommendations to fix it would be appreciated.
why is my screen looking like this after connecting the capture card?
Question regarding my Switch 2:
Got the HD60X, everything wired and working fine.
Only problem (not sure, first elgato capcard for me) is that I can only see my Switch 2 "screen" through the apps and when I try to swap to the correct HDMI channel, it just goes back to my PC "DP" channel.
What can I do?
This usually indicates an issue with the EDID detection, which sets the display modes. In your case if you're using the main monitor it may be that the console and capture card aren't intially getting a connection to the monitor to get the display's EDID as some monitor's may leave the HDMI port off til you switch to it. If you disconnect the DP so it can't auto switch back to the signal, does it sync up correctly for the HDMI? If so you can connect things back up try using the 4K Capture Utility Settings, under Device, to change the Input EDID mode to Internal and select the resolution of the monitor in the bottom box. With any luck that'll get the Switch 2 to use a compatible resolution and settings that'll work with the monitor when you switch it over.
Display mode detection failure of some kind, it looks like. What card are you using?
Is this after a full computer reboot, or restoring from sleep? If it's restoring from sleep or hibernate there may be a hiccup with the USB port HD60 X is in, and it's suspend state. You may have to turn off power saving mode on the USB controller.
If it's a full computer reboot, try turning off Fastboot in your BIOS/UEFI - that can sometimes cause devices to boot up in the wrong USB spec.
i fixed it by disabling hdr fully but idk
Oh, does the display there actually support HDR? If not that would explain it - there are cases where a console will detect Neo supports HDR on passthrough and turn it on even if the actual receiving display doesn't. That results in a number of weird issues, usually completely messsed up contrast
yeah fair i think thats prob it
is there any way to hear the switch in my pc through the capture card?
That shoudl happen by default unless there's a headset also connected to the Switch. If yoiu're using OBS ot Streamlabs you need to turn on audio monitoring though - in the advanced audio settings under edit, set the card to Monitor and Output in the monitor column. Most other apps do audio monitor by default though
its not happening by default
im gonna try that
but its changing that on obs gonna make my capture card audio go to my pc?
:o
rn the audio is coming from the screen itself
Most likely - OBS adds new audio devices with monitoring off in case you hear them elsewhere. By default it only sends audio to the stream and recording (output), and has monitor, what you hear, turned off
You'll likely have to mute your screen if you don't want double audio
the case is that im using 2 screens
one is purely for switch display
the other one the one i use for my pc
so the switch monitor and the pc monitor arent connected
Yeah, just mute it or turn the volume all the way down on it once you get audio into OBS
okay let me see
oh nvm i figured out where u said it
YOUA RE THE GOAT
YOU ARE THE GOAAAAAAAT
Just to confirm they're telling you they can't hear you right? Because Chat Link Pro does not split the headset mic, it only sends it to the console. So if you're not hearing your own voice that way it's fine, but folks on the PS5 voice chat can't hear you, something is up. You may want to check that all the plugs are all the way in, and confirm the mic still works with the PS5 when Chat Link isn't present.
If you want to hear audio from the mac at the same time as what's on the console, you'll want something besides Chat Link, such as a mixamp, or a headset with dual siultaneous input, so you can get both feeds mixed into the headset at the same time.
Glad to hear it's working!
That other setting you were looking at is where the output goes - by default it uses whatever Windows is set to use for your audio out.
Lol
you helped me at choosing the capture card and now this
its my way of paying back
🗣️
Go for it - though it's a bit of a mouthful for long term use 😄
What is your Input EDID mode set to? Switch 2 seems to be really, really picky with the EDID, which determines available display modes. Support recommends trying it with the EDID set to display - you can change that with 4K Capture Utility under the **device **tab in settings. This should pass along all display modes supported by the display you're using. It sounds like you tried to set the EDID on the Switch when Vic asked about it, but this is a capture card setting. Once you've changed the EDID you may have to restart or disconnect and reconnect the HDMI of the console to get it to pick up the change.
Is there a way to make sure ur pcie slot has enough power for a 4k pro? (Or not too much)
I have a msi motherboard
Hi again, i have tried what you told me, but it doesn't work either...
I might return it tomorrow, I don't know what to do.
Check the manual and make sure it lists at least x4 lanes in the slot (which should be PCIe 2.0 or higher). Take note of any warnings about lane bifurcation (splitting basically) - some motherboards may reduce the number of available lanes if you have sertain NVMe or other PCIe slots filled.
To confirm - your OBS sees the card, but it only has a black screen for the video feed? I just want to be sure because you also mentioned a no device found error earlier. Black screen and no device found errors have very different troubleshooting
My capture card worked fine for 6 months so far
And i think we did go through my manual back then
In fact theres the message
Hopefully my gpu didnt cook it
I'm sorry I don't speak much English and I use the translator sometimes. The OBS and 4K CAPTURE detect the capture card, but on the screen it says that it cannot find an input connection. I have checked the HDMI cables, and everything works correctly from the device to the monitor. I have also verified updates and everything is correct. But it still does not provide any video or audio signal.
So on screen it says "No Signal" would be the English equivalent if I'm reading that right. That will also appear if the signal it is receiving is not compatible. In the top right of 4K Capture Utility, does it show a "Source" signal?
What are you trying to capture? A console like PS5, Xbox, Switch? Or a second PC?
I try to capture PS5, i remove the HDR and also the HDCP (all is in spanish sorry)
Everything is set to default values.
Try setting the PS5 to 1080p resolution in the video settings, disable HDR, Variable Refresh Rate and 120Hz mode and see what happens.
yes that's correct. it was working early on when I first bought the capture card but now they don't hear me at all, and this is for in-game audio and discord via ps5. i've checked all my connections and still nothing. my mic still works without the chat link. i'll look into the dual feeds because I keep seeing that suggested and it may be what I need. thanks for your help
Good luck with it - if it was workig before you might also want to check with #official-tech-support just in case the cable has developed an internal issue like a wiring fault on the mic connection.
okay i'll head there, thanks!
It turns out my capture card was the issue, not the most recent drivers @past basin
I ordered a replacement just to test it out and surely enough it works perfect, in fact even better than this one because it doesnt make my screen freak out
I think my original was definitely faulty
Interesting - hopefully you're able to return the original? If not you should at least check with #official-tech-support to see about getting it replaced under warranty so you'd have a good spare (or sell it once you have a working one). Thanks for confirming you were able to track downt he issue
Thank you! Can you tell me where the serial and model number are on the card itself?
The Model Number is the same as the SKU on the box (and should also be on the sticker on back of the card). Serial is on the bottom of the box, or you can get it from the card itself by checking the settings in the driver or with Eglato Studio
I no longer have the box unfortunately
Is it one of these?
The sticker with all the logos on the back has the model number. The sticker on the edge looks like the serial actaully - I did not realize that was there
Yeah, I checked my own - that edge sticker should be the serial number
I have tested the configuration and neither
Thank you!
Oh crap i filled in 20GBK9901
Because that was on the black sticker with all the symbols
Okay - your HD60 S+ should have a newer firmware available too. Current firmware for HD60 S+ is 22.02.24 with FPGA 67. You might want to try updating that to see if it helps here -there is risk with a firmware update though. Disconnect the HDMI cables from the card before you do it - then check that your 4K Capture Utility is up to date (you can check that on the general tab of settings). Next if you open settings while holding CTRL you should see the update firmware button on the device tab. Again this does have some amount of risk so it's not recommended unless something isn't working - but it might help here.
Hey I’m struggling to get the elgato chat link to not block audio anyone know what’s causing this
That's the model number, if you can still add stuff to the ticket put the serial in there somewhere else - or I think you can reply with it to the automatic email the system will send you when it makes the ticket
What do you mean by block audio?
So I’m running my ps5 through obs when I plug the chat link into my controller and capture card ps5 audio is muted
Oh i thought the sku was the model number
Are you setting the card to switch to Analog audio mode? The card does not automatically switch so you'll need to change that in settings when you switch to analog audio like Chat Link
Same thing - one is technically the part number iirc. Only difference is one starts with a 2 the other with a 1 for most of it.
I’m not seeing the option for analog audio in the audio settings what would it be under
Do u know the page for download? I try auto, but says is the last version
Is your 4K Capture Utility on the latest version? It's bundled with the app - check for updates to the app
What app are you using? If it's 4K Capture Utility it's in settings under the device tab
Actually which card are you using?
Game capture 4k x by elgato
Software is obs
Yes i download 2 days ago from elgato page
This setting needs to be set in 4K Capture Utility (https://www.elgato.com/downloads) - it will save the setting on the card so you can use it with OBS once you've change the setting
Thank you so much, saved my set up from being thrown at a wall
Okay thanks again for everything. You’ve been such an amazing help throughout all of this
Can you try this with Elgato Studio? (https://www.elgato.com/s/beta ). Just want to make sure - it's possible there's a hardware revision with different firmware, which might explain this. Run Studio and try holding CTRL when you open device prefrences from the top left and see if that has an update
Glad you got it working - that trips a few people up at first.
i try the hdmi and works good.. im going crazy whit this hahahaha
To confirm, on the PS5 you've disabled HDCP, VRR, and 120Hz mode, and the resolution is set to 1080p? If you boot the PS5 in safe mode does anything change? https://www.playstation.com/support/hardware/safe-mode-playstation/
Learn how and when to access Safe Mode, a troubleshooting tool designed to help resolve data and display issues on PlayStation®5 consoles and PlayStation®4 consoles.
If you hold CTRL while you open that screen you should get the update button
Should look like thist
Ignore the USB 2.0 warning on my setup, that's a bug I've reported
i do this
Okay. must be a different internal hardware revision
Try the PS5 in safe mode, see what happens
I'm trying to capture my switch 2 gameplay, but the signal isn't working. I've tried to update my firmware (latest version), removed all hdr, 120 hz, and low latency mode
What card are you using?
Is there a source signal listed in the top right?
And has this card ever worked with anything else?
yes, it says 4k 60
it worked for the switch one
Is there anything in the HDMI out port of the card?
yes, the hdmi is connected from my capture card to my monitor
Does the monitor see the Switch 2, or is that also getting no signal?
I can use the hdmi given to me by nintendo to plug into my monitor but not when I connect to the capture card.
if the question is while my switch is plugged into the capture card is my monitor getting a signal, the answer is no
Yes, that's what I was looking for.
If you go into 4K Capture Utility, and check under settings, what is the EDID Input Mode set to on the device tab?
Lets test something. Change that Input EDID Mode to Internal, press OK, then disconnect and reconnect the HDMI from the Switch to see if anything changes
still same as this. No signal
What resolution is the monitor in the HDMI Out port?
Okay, lets try to at least get things working at 1440p60 - back in that setting page, chance the bottom EDID (Internal) box to 1440p, press OK and disconnect and reconnect the switch again
Okay when i restarted the pc with the capture card, the blinking issue came back
IT'S WORKING
RAHHHHH
there's no passthrough though, I can only see it on my 4k capture utility
Do i need to update the firmware on the new card?
Okay, while it's working set that resolution on the Switch in docked mode to 1440p, then try setting the EDID back to display and see what happens
Nothing has changed F
You can try it if there's one available - if not you might want to raise a ticket with #official-tech-support on this one to see if they have an idea what's going on here.
Can you check Windows Privacy and Security settings, and under the camera section, make sure the settings that allow apps to access cameras and Desktop apps to access cameras are both set to ON? It's possible a Windows Update reset the security settings and blocked the capture card, because it counts as a camera
Do you have video on both the app and monitor now? Display mode there works best for the montior so I'm hoping that clears it up now that we told to Switch not to use 4K since it's a 1440p screen
yes, this work now
one issue, I want to play at 120fps. How would I configure that?
I have the 120hz checked on the switch
If the game you're playing supports 120Hz mode it should switch over while using Display EDID mode
Not all of them do (Mario Kart is the one that's tripping most people up at the moment since they were expecting 120 mode on that but it's capped at 60)
okay good
If it doesn't switch, volunteers are in and out here during the day and you can always pop back in
is all on
here dnt have image
seems to have FINALLY fixed the issue lol
so far...
Do you have another HDMI cable in case the cable is bad or has gotten dirty or corroded?
Good to hear - hopefully that takes care of it
I tried Display, Input, and Merged on the capture Utility 4K app. All 3 of them showed my Switch 2, but none of them showed 4K on the switch. I did most of my testing on EDID set to Display
You may need to disconnect and reconnect the switch when you change those settings to get it to detect the new modes.
Note that if there's a display connected to the HDMI out that doesn't support 4K, that will cause an issue as well
the display supports 4K for both my PC monitors and TV
I have a 4K TV for consoles and 2 separate 4K screens for the monitors @past basin
The TV is Insignia 4K with HDR support and can do upto 4K 120hz. My monitors are 4K upto 144hz
My monitors are connected to my PC via 8K compatible samsung display cables, and my TV is dual hooked up with 4K cables. I'm also soon to be swapping out the TV soon for another TV I got last week that supports 4K 144hz, HDR, and VRR
Set the Input EDID back to display then disconnect and reconnect the HDMI from the Switch 2 to force it to resync. That should get it to pull all compatible display modes for the device in the HDMI out port of the capture card
so you are saying to take the HDMI out of the switch dock to force reset it, and then replug it in and all setting should come back
Either the dock, or the HDMI IN side of the capture card
Either way we need the Switch 2 to see it lose connection and then reconnect.
connection is disconnected
it's disconnected from both
Okay, and the Input EDID has been set back to Display? If so reconnect the TV first, we need that in there to have a Display EDID in the first place
Then reconnect the switch
HD60X is set in the 4K capture utility to display
I just reconnected the switch 2
I'm also doing this with my Switch 2 system set to Japanese so this is fun
I've got to run out there now, but I'll try to check in again when I'm back
is it possible to use a display port adapter for a 4k pro since i dont have enough hdmi slots in my gpu
Usually yes, if you're putting the adapter on the GPU not the variety card - most modern GPUs have DisplayPory Dual Mode aka DP++ that lets you use a passive adapter to convert to HDMI. The HDMI version available might be lower than the dedicated GPU HDMI port though
do you have to enable displayport dual mode?
No, it should be always on
i assume a 4090 would have it
and if it does what kind of adapter should i get?
4090 would probably have it - I think it's theoretically OEM optional, but no reason not to include it since the chip supports it. You might find the DP++ logo somewhere, but it's so common it's not always used anymore.
Your best bet is going to be a passive DP to HDMI adapter
Active ones are going to cause issues such as extra latency and limited resolution mode support so try to stay away from those
awesome thanks a ton! What would a passive one be?
When you're looking for the adapters it should say passive or active somewhere in the description. Anything that has extra power connections from something like USB is an active adapter though
would it be something like this?
That looks like the right kind of passive adapter. Odd that I don't see passive mentioned in it
Yeah "Use with all graphics cards or GPUs with DP, DP++, DisplayPort++(Do not use with any Hub/Docking/KVM; only supports from DisplayPort source devices to HDMI display devices)" it needs DP++ so it's a passive adapter
Make sure it's returnable just in the off chance it does have compatibility issues
DisplayPort to HDMI 8K Cable: SWITCHFLUX DisplayPort to HDMI 8K Cable can transfer ultra-high-definition content from your PC, laptop, or graphics card to a larger display, providing you with stunning and realistic images. This means you no longer need to worry about unstable connections or compr...
this is a similar one
awesome thanks so much!
Suspiciously similar right down the line about DP++, so that one should in theory work too
One last question. Is it better to latency wise to clone ur desktop to ur capture card? or to have it as an extended display with obs projecting to it
I'm not 100% sure - I would suspect cloning, but since you're playing on the un-projected screen it shouldn't matter signifcantly, and I expect it'd be close either way
Hi… randomly have an issue with my 4K Pro, just wanted to check if there was any quick fix before I made a ticket. It about an hour ago it randomly said no signal in OBS for a second or two and then reconnected, then just now switched back to no signal and I rebooted to see a black screen in OBS and no devices found in the capture utility. However it shows up on the device the HDMI cable is connected to in the display settings and is duplicated as normal
Reseat fixed it
Switch 2?
It was one PC to another one via HDMI but I ironed out the multiple issues I had. Want me to delete the post?
no, you're fine, wasn't sure if it was a switch 2 compatibility issue, was just asking. 🙂
Has anybody had any luck with getting their card to capture Switch 2 audio? I am still struggling, a week later.
Idk if struggling is even the right word, I cannot get audio to be captured at all.
The biggest issue with audio capture are hitting with the Switch 2 is it not defaulting to Stereo. Check that the audio on the console is set to Stereo and not something like Dolby as the capture card is stereo audio only
I’ve had it on stereo the whole time, so I’m not too sure now.
Now, my monitor doesn’t have built in speakers, but even when attaching headphones to the switch 2, there’s no audio or anything.
hello! I have a major audio issue and im not sure why cant find a answer anywhere. I am running a dual pc stream setup with 4k60 pro capture card and for audio mixing im using the rodecaster pro 2. I have everything setup correct i believe and my audio on my gaming pc is amazing. But on my stream pc where all the magic happen mainly audio wise im gettin really bad quality. Weather im trying to listen to spotify or watch youtube, anytime my obs is open my audio threw the stream pc is very choppy and skips constanly and im going to go insane lol. But when obs is closed i have no issues again. If anyone has any suggestions or tips im all ears! Thanks bunches!
If you plug in a headset or headphones the console will mute the HDMI out there, you'd want something like Chat Link Pro to split the audio off and set the capture card to analog mode or use a PC Line In jack - but it's not working when that's not connected either? What capture card are you using?
How exactly are you routing the audio to get it between the two PCs? Iirc the RODECaster Pro II is a dual USB connection device so you can run all the audio right through the RODECaster from one PC to the other, then mix it back in your capture app like OBS. This would bypass anything to do with your capture card.
@past basin
i got some news!!!
got a new laptop with usb 3.0 slots
ryzen 7 5700U
i tested and it aint red
Glad to hear it seems to be working!
mhm on friday im gonna optimize it then ill maybe start playing games on it or for start streaming
Hi, i try 4 HDMI and the same... Np bro, tkns for the help, today I will go return the capture card and I will probably buy a different one.
This is exactly how I have this setup both computers are ran threw the rodecaster which is what I thought my capture card has nothing to do with it so I not sure what the issue is
If all your audio is routed through the RODECaster and not passing through the capture card (or any other Elgato product like Wave Link), this is probably a better question to ask over on the Rode discord than here. We're genreaelly pretty specialized into the Eglato product line - a lot of the Rode stuff is going to have different issues. Eg normally for this sort of audio issues I'd have suggested checking Windows Audio Enchancements, but that's already going to be locked ou on a RODECaster Pro II. I'm unusre what would cause audio issues liek that short of problems like sample rate mismatch, or if you need the virtual devices driver installed or something
Excuse me. Is this the best channel to reach out to for support with capture card hardware and software issues?
For community based support it would be here. If you need official support you can open a ticket by following the links in #official-tech-support
hey there, i could use some help here if possible for a 4k60 pro mk2, currently have it plugged in a PCIEx8 and elgato studio (Beta) has not detected it. please and thanks if any help
If you install the 4K Capture Utility instead does it show up there?
Studio is still in beta so it's a good idea to test it with the current app to be safe
I do have both, and 4k is not picking up any devices, not showing auto detect and in settings to choose devices
Does the card show up at all in Device Manager? Even as an unknown device maybe?
Also what specific motherboard are you using it with, and ideally CPU
Will take a look and see what I can find
All good - I'm in and out of here a bit today so so rush. Might take a little before I can get back to you though
cant find anything in device manager, i have a Intel Core i7, and motherboard Z390 AORUS PRO-CF, 16gb Ram
Hm, I don't see anything in the manual that would indicate a compatibility issue with the board - the card should work in either of the lower large PCIe slots.
If you've still got the case open you might try it in the other slot if it fits to see if there's a change. Beyond that I'd try installing the standalone drivers for the card and reboot (from https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027961152-Elgato-Hardware-Drivers )
yeah its odd, when i swap the HDMI to my switch 2 it does show up on my TV but i dont think i PC detecting the 4k60
also i have already downloaded the drivers, both 4k60 mk1 and 2 just in case, and have restarted the pc
You might want to check the motherboard BIOS settings, make sure there's nothing in there that disables any of the PCIe. In rare cases setting the PCIe for the port the card is in to PCIe 2.0 manually instead of leaving it on auto can also help. But I'd definitely also try it in both slots since it looks like one might be CPU controlled and the other chipset controlled, so you might have better luck in the other slot
If none of that helps you may have to check in with #official-tech-support on this one - if there's an issue with the card or anything they'd be the ones to decide and issue any needed RMAs
Checked PC bios and I can only find this, BTW the 4k60 is plugged in the PC.
The elgato is in the x4 slot
Ok. Maybe you can help me out? Lately I've been having a slight issue with my Elgato HD 60 S. There are moments when the capture card will freeze for, like, a deci-second, resulting in footage freezing and audio being cut. Do you know a fox for this?
Yeah, something is on the go there -the capture card really should be showing up in that list somewhere if the motherboard is seeing it. Changing the slot it was in didn't help? Does reseating it in the original slot show anything?
What app are you using the card with? This could be hardware, firmware or software - if it's something that only happend recently the most likely cause is something changed on the host computer, and often that works out to software or config issues
Elgato 4K Capture Utility and Elgato Studio (beta)
No app is going to see it if the motherboard BIOS doesn't see anything in there.
Check for BIOS/UEFI updates and if that's a no go I'd reach out to official support
I use Elgato 4K Capture Utility.
right ill check if there is any updates
Do you get the stutter and audio drop in both the recording and the preview, or only one of it?
The recording, yes. The preview, I'm not sure. Let me get back to you on that.
Oh and I also use OBS for it, too.
That's a negative on the preview. Been testing it for 30 minutes now.
Okay, if it's only happening on the recordings, then the card is probably fine. A few things can affect recordings, including the settings and updates to the app or even the GPU driver. Any chance you updated 4K Capture Utility recently? They switched to using ffmpeg for it in 1.7.14 which had some impact on some setups. You could check if 1.7.13 form here has the same issue - https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027964472-Elgato-4K-Capture-Utility-Release-Notes if you did update 4KCU recently.
Aside from that you might want to check for GPU driver updates if you're using the video encoder on your GPU with the app (you can check that in the recording tab in settings - if you't not doing much on the PC while recording you might be able to try the software encoder too, which might perform better in some cases)
Both are up to date. 4K software version is 1.7.15 (10349) and GPU is NVIDIA version 576.52.
Did using the older version of 4KCU befor the ffmpeg change help?
I...haven't attempted it yet. The official customer support helped me adjust some settings to the software and the capture card via OBS. I'm gonna give those changes a try. If the issue still persists, then I'll downgrade to the older version. @past basin
Sounds good - good luck with it!
Thanks! I'll report back later.
Hello im a very special case. i have my trusty elgato hd60s and im running linux mint (ubuntu) There are drivers for other cards, but i seem to be in possesion of a " middle child " or so to speak, that is supposedly better than other cards but hasnt seem to have gotten much love from the community. Im asking if it is somehow possible to still use this card.
Also please do advertise uvc support on your products, i dont get how nothing on the website says that linux is supported when with uvc its all plug and play and almost every system should work. if im wrong, do educate me aswell.
anyone get 1440p120 working with a switch 2 on a 4k X?
I haven't tried it on my Mac, but I was able to get 1080p 120
this is a community server, and there isn't any linux support, so you'd probably want to try limux forums to see if anyone was successful and steps they have done to make the devices work.
also understandable. I would appreciate more linux support and also advertisements in the future though, as i and many others have just switched due to a soon discontinuation of windows 10. Thanks for the response
I totally understand where you’re coming from, and your feelings are totally valid in wanting to support, but the only way that you would be able to do that is directly to the company, and also a #feature-request may help.
ah ok thanks, sorry if iam/was bothersome.
Not at all, this is a topic that comes up from time to time. Unfortunately, at this time, there is nothing elgato has as far as support. It’s more so a user base that uses it, and those forms are probably gonna be the ideal place to see what can help you with it myself I do not have experience with linux, only macOS and Windows.
ya I can get 1080p120 and 1440p60 which if is all people can get working is fine as almost nothing is going to support 1440p120, just figured I would check if anyone had more luck than me getting 1440p120 working
elgato studio new bug wont show my 4k x and thinks my usb 3 port is a usb 2 even tho it didnt yesterday now got yellow light. need help please 4K X into a Nintendo Switch 2
fix it some how after 17 pc restarts
hey is this the chat i should ask about my chat link problems?
The amber light o the card usually indicates it is stuck in USB 2.0 or slower for some reason. If it was working before and started doing this, then if it happens again try reaseating the cabels on both ends in case something is a little loose.
Depends on the particular issue, but for most of them, yes.
i have a wireless headset and was wondering can i still use chat link with a standalone mic its a shure mic? the headset does not have a 3.5 MM JACK
No. Chat link is an analog splitter.
Wireless audio can not be split.
Hi, hope everyone's having a great weekend, just wanted to ask, what firmwire/MTU are you using for 4K X? I got an update but wanted to ask before I go update it 😄
I'm on 25.2.10 myself (this one is currently only included with the Elgato Studio Beta iirc).
@past basin Ok so I tested my capture card again last night and I don't think I had the sound stutter issues. I'm gonna run another test to see if what the official support suggested works. Just in case, do you have that previous version link for the 4K Capture Utility on hand?
If you wind up needing it, all the old versions are listed here: https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027964472-Elgato-4K-Capture-Utility-Release-Notes
I'd go with 1.7.13 if you wanted to test a different version though, since that is the last one not using ffmpeg
Yeah I found out I am still having issues. I'll download that version now. Thank you.
Helloo, i've been using a capture card for a few weeks with no issues, but today, OBS stopped being able to recognize that video capture device. The card works fine, it still displays my game, but OBS just doesn't pick it up. I have no clue what happened. I messed with nothing, it just stopped, and I'm not too sure what happened. I asked OBS people first, they said I should go get help from Elgato, so here I am
For most of the cards, as long as they get power, the passthrough circuit that sends video to the HDMI out port still works, it's not a reliable indicator the card still works.
What specific card are you using?
4k pro
Yeah, tha'ts on the PCIe bus so it'll always have power. You mentioned OBS doesn't see it, but do apps like 4K Capture Utility or Elgato Studio Beta still recognize the card?
Nope, the capture utility does not see it either, and I haven't tried the studio beta
If this was working before, I suggest shutting down, remvoing AC power, and remove and reseat the card in case it got knocked a bit loose somehow. Were there any other changes to the system recently? For example using some M.2 slots on some motherboards is known to turn off PCIe slots (usually you have to use the manual to figure out if that's the case for your board). This would still provide power though so the passthrough would still work
I'll try that and let you know what happens. There weren't any changes as far as I know
Still nothing. Not picking it up in OBS or Utility
Try opening up Device Manager. Does it appear anywhere in there?
I'm not seeing it there either, checked everything. Just to be sure I didn't miss it, where would it most likely be
wait I reloaded and it showed up
Okay it disabled itself, I didn't know it could do that, thank you, it's showing up again
Yeah well I'm on this version. It was prompting to update firmwire but not there's no such option, so I think I'll be good 🙂
@lone crypt is there a way around this?besides buying a wired headset
Xbox can send audio to hdmi and headset at the same time, with a change in settings.
PS doesn’t have this option so it’s always headset or tv (capture card, in this case)
So on PS the only way would be to connect your headset to the PC and listen to the audio after the capture card, which will have latency.
I don’t have consoles, that’s just the info I’ve picked up on their audio options.
(PS should really add the option for sale of streaming)
im on xbox
im about to check this settings now on xbox
@lone crypt so i see this option or was it a different one?
Yeah that should work!
how do i talk in gamechat?
oh i dont think i went over everything
i stream and i want my chat to hear my opp and gameplay and i want to talk to my opp thats why i bought chatlink but then i found out a wireless headset cant
i use my obs to hear gamesound through elgato audio
Ummm
Ok so, the capture card should hear everything your console outputs. So that includes game sound and party chat.
If your mic is on the headset connected to the console then party chat will hear that.
You need a mic attached to the pc for the stream/recording to hear your voice.
This is exactly how it works with chat link cable, if you were analog headset
So I recently upgrade from an Elgato HD60 S (I believe) and I now have a 4k X 4k144. Ever since swapping, I've run into the issue of my audio just being straight up crackly and I basically cant hear anything. It just chips in every few seconds and makes weird noises. Any easy resolution for this?
Worth a mention but I changed software to the new 4k capture utility too since the old one didn't recognize the capture card.
Update: I changed the USBC that was connected to my pc to the old elgato one using the old usb to usb C and the audio is now perfect but the display literally doesnt work lol.
Would you recommend like a usb C to USB converter and use that?
For some reason my new HD60 X isn't passing through or capturing HDR from my Nintendo Switch 2, any help?
Is there no way to disable the Elgato 4K X from picking up my microphone when capturing the device in discord? Right now my friends can hear two of me, one through discord and one through the elgato with no noise surpression. I don't see a disable option for the mic, only a dropdown list with available devices
this almost feels a little invasive to always be using a microphone in the capture utility
like the mic is muted in the software, my mic is muted in discord, and my friend can still hear me through the discord stream
AHH but if i connect my headset to my Xbox instead of my pc i wont be able to talk to my friends in cord or hear sound alerts i have a standalone mic a Shure mic i use to speak into and i just use my headset to hear everything
Try using obs maybe?
Elgato Studio doesn't do it
I tried using the projector option in obs and capturing that but my friends said the audio was scuffed
I dunno if 4K Capture Ultility is outdated or what but I was able to do what i want with Studio instead
and Studio seemed to recongize a newer firmware update for the 4K X compared to Ultility
The whole thing was very strange and a little frustrating. The HD60 was pretty straightforward but it was also old hardware that didn't have to adapt to much
are you connected to a usb 3.2 port?
the mic disappears in Elgato Studio Beta
Hi Can someone help me? I've been having trouble with my HD60 S+ Elgato capture card and I recently pulled results and I have what seems to be a hardware issue... Does anyone know about it?
okay i thought my audio issuse was because of my rodecaster pro 2 but that is not the case. when i open my obs on my streaming pc all audio goes to crap i noticed it was my elgato 4k60 pro because before my video capture loaded on obs audio was fine then when it loads the video audio goes to crap i deleted my video capture on obs and now all audio is fine but i need my capture card does anyone have an idea why this is???
Hi I have a question about 4K Pro, I am considering upgrading to a 4K240hz OLED, and I have checked that 4K Pro allow 4k240hz passthrough, yet when I am browsing the support page, there is a line mentioned "*4K Pro does not support passthrough or capture of signals using Display Stream Compression (DSC)." I am uncertain whether it means when DSC is active, there will be black screen issue(if without DSC how could HDMI2.1 achieve 4K240hz) for 4K Pro passthrough? Could someone help me to answer this? I know 4K Pro when passthrough at 4K240hz, it could only capture at maximum 1080p240hz(and this is probably what that line means but I am uncertain), but for the most important point is, I just wanna know can 4K Pro passthrough at 4K240hz without any issue.
HDMI hits 4K240 with HDMI 2.1 without DSC, because it's 48 Gbps of bandwidth compared to the 18 of HDMI 2.0. The extra bandwidth means less need for compression.
4K Pro does have one issue at 4K240 - while you can passthrough 4K240, once you go above 4K60 capture resolution drops to 1080p to keep up with things.
If 240 Hz is a concern though you're likely working with a dual PC setup, since consoles can't hit that yet - so cloning your display to the card instead of using passthrough is an option (or extending the display and using something like OBS Projector to preserver HDR). That way you can set the card on the gaming PC to get a 4K60 signal for full res while playing at 4K240 on the main monitor
What issues are you actually hitting with the HD60 S+. I'm also no familiar with whatever app you're pulling that info from
does your Nintendo support hdr?
To confirm audio is coming from the Rodecaster, but once you load video in OBS the audio is going to crap? Are there any errors or warnings about the audio in your OBS logs? If you remove the capture card from your OBS source does the issue go away?
HD60 X won't affect passthrough so it should not be blocking HDR in passthrough to whatever you have in the HDMI OUT port of the card. Does whatever display you have connected to the HDMI OUT port actually support HDR? HD60 X will by default tonemap HDR to SDR over capture (so recordings and preview will be SDR), unless you specifically enable HDR recording (and some apps like OBS require additional setup to do that).
Is Discord's Capture Device streaming option not working for you? It can have quirks at times so there are valid reasons not to use it on some systems - but if you're using the capture device options from screenshare, you shouldn't need to worry about 4K Capture Utility or Elgato Studio or any other app at all (Note that there's a specific option in the setup for the streamin Discord to select the audio device as well - make sure that doesn't set to your mic)
thanks for your answer ❤️
4K X uses a 10 Gbps connection (eg USB 3.2 Gen 2) to get all modes, HD60 S would have had a USB 3.0 cable which would only run at 5 Gbps. 4K X can run on 5 Gbps but you lose some options for display modes - 4KCU shouldn't be blacking out like that with it though. I'd probably restart the app to get things to resync if you haven't already.
If you're running into an issue where you have working audio on a 5 Gbps setup and not on 10 Gbps, you may have run afoul of a rare issue where some 10 Gbps ASMedia USB controllers have audio issues that affect products like DACs, audio interfaces, and even 4K X. Some users have reported they're able to fix that by getting the controller to update to a different driver thorugh Device Manager, as the issue may just be the included 10 Gbps USB Driver in Windows (specifically the version flagged with (Microsoft). So you can try using the card in 5 Gbps port as a workaround, or you can try to update that USB driver if it's an ASMedia controller (some AMD ones are also rebadged ASMedia designs).
It won’t run 60 fps despite me changing setting around and doing everything on OBS.
I believe I pulled it for this website
Test your webcam online to check if it is working properly and find out useful information about it
What resolution are you working with on it, and what app are you using it iwth?? at 4K it will cap at 30 fps because of USB bandwidth. It should be able to do 1080p60 fine though.
I am using 1080p60 with a resolution of 1920x1080
And I’m using obs studio
Is OBS locking you to 30 fps on mode selection, or reporting 30 fps in the bottom right while recording? Or does it just look like 30 fps?
It’s reporting 60 fps, but when I stream or record it always appears as 30 or lower
So it shows 60 FPS except when streaming or recording? Is it the preview or the recording/stream itself that is showing the frame rate drop, or both?
That sounds more like something like encoder overload then a problem with the card itself, if it's fine til recording or stream starts. What are your video encoding settings? Are you using something like a NVENC hardware encoder or software based x264 encoding?
It'll be in settings under Output
Something like this
Or this, depending on how you're setup
Okay thank you 🙏🙏
First thing I'd check is what video encoder is set to - if you're hitting performance issues it should ideally be set to your GPU encoder, So NVENC, AMD or Intel's QSV, depending on what you're running
If it's on x264 software encoding it may overload the CPU depending on the setup
here they are
Huh, that's greyed out. What's the section above that look like?
here its my stream settings
NVENC Deprecated? Also still oddly greyed out - is a recording or stream currently running?
no nothing is running
What version of OBS do you have, and do you know what your GPU is?
(OBS Version should be in the help menu under About)
I have OBS 31.0.3 and I don't really know my GPU
(Im not very good with like the insides of computers)
Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding. I just tested it out in the studio beta, and it works perfectly with the program. I initially thought it was a USB 3.0 issue, since the studio told me that it was connected to a 2.0. However, when I switched it to the 3.0 port and went back to OBS, it was still having the same issue.
||edit: also XIV!!!! Love that glam set :DDD ||
All good. If you hit start and type NVidia Control Panel, it should load the app for it. Then hit the help menu and go to System Information - it should tell you the GPU there on the left
Good to know - that 2.0 warning seems to be a bug in beta, it's incorrectly popping up at times (Though it can be a legitimate issue, we're getting false positives on it too right now).
Give me a couple minutes to go back over what we were talking about there before
It says NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
Of course!
Can you restart OBS and see if those settings become accessible? They should only usually grey out if the app thinks recording, stream or something else like the virtual camera maybe, is running
Since recordings were fine and this works okay in other apps, we might need to check if somethign is capping out. When you're recording in OBS, if you open task manager (Ctrl + Shift + ESC) and go to the processes tab, are either the GPU or GPU hitting 1005?
Oh, apologies! I probably wasn’t clear. I’m actually using this to stream, rather than record. And when I open OBS, I still noticed that fluctuation in frame rate output on the preview window, regardless of whether I am streaming or not.
I can still check though!
Huh, but it's working fine in Studio? Are there a lot of UI elements or overlays or such loaded in there? If you right click the card in the soruces and use one of the projector modes, does that still seem like it's struggling to maintain fps?
Yep, it’s working perfectly ok in Studio! And no, I actually have few overlays that are a part (technically 7, but only three are actually on right now, not including my microphone). Going to send a screenshot shortly!
Does it change if you run OBS as administrator?
I have also tried using it in Projector mode (both Windows and Full Screen) and it still causes issues. It ranges from a hitchy 60FPs to a 20-30 FPS output. But notably, that change in frame rate is only visible from my screen, and not from the actual stream itself, which stays at 60.
Going to try that now!
What other options does it give you for Video Encoder up there at the top?
give me these options
which one should I use?
Just tried running it in Administrator Mode and it immediately started off with the 20-30 FPS mode :/
Try the second one there, and see if that improves anything
okay!
a 1660 ti shouldn't need the older version iirc
Since it's working in Studio this is most likely something OBS related. If you upload a log from it in the help menu, and run it through https://obsproject.com/tools/analyzer does it give any potential issues?
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Stream to Twitch, YouTube and many other providers or record your own videos with high quality H264 / AAC encoding.
May help to do a quick test recording with the log
Going to do that now!
its still running at the 30 fps :(
Does anything change if you run OBS as administrator? It's possible this migh tbe a GPU scheduling issue which running as admin may clear up
Going to do a test recording, but saw this and figured I'd send it over! (I'm aware o the Audio Monitoring Failure, since that's likely because my mic/headphone setup is disconnected rn)
right click it to open it and there should be an option for it
Yeah, kind of figured HAGS might be on. Normally running as Admin makes that not an issue.
Audio monitoring error means the device set for audio output in OBS under settings > Audio > Advanced, isn't working correctly. If might be set to an audio device that was moved or removed
alr did it, lemme make everything is re set back up
Ah gotcha! Should I disable HAGS entirely and see if that helps? Not sure if it might make a difference, since it was working in Studio. Also, yeah, my audio setup is currently disabled rn haha, so that part makes sense!
You can try it - NVidia GPUs use it for some versions of DLSS though if you use that.
Also you'll have to restart after turning it off, for it to change over
Oop, sent the wrong one (though you can see it a bit here), sendingthe other one i took which is more apprent
And it's so strange because when I open up Studio, it works flawlessly.
Is HDR for docked mode enabled on the Switch 2? In rare cases I've seen the HDR tonemapping do weird things, and Studio would likely turn that off to do it's own mapping iirc (4KCU did, not 100% if Studio does or not).
At a glance I'm assumig it's not on though as the colours don't show the usual tonemapping shift
I don't believe so! Not sure if there is another setting for this, but I had actually disabled it because I heard there were some issues happening with the HDR as wlel.
Yeah, HDR has been tripping people up coming from Switch 1 that didn't have it, because it has a bunch of extra steps when using some things like OBS, or the card will convert back to SDR on the capture feed while leaving passthrough alone, which can shift colours in the recording. That rules out that though.
I'm trying ot think what would make OBS preview run differently than Elgato Studio though
For sure haha! 🙂 Even though I have a gaming PC, I've never owned (and still don't lol!) an HDR-compatible monitor, so I am still uninitiated to its benefits
so it changed to x264 output and it gave it different settings
it still runs at 30fps
One thing that I have noticed is that the previewer sometimes changes the FPS when I open and close the Previewer window, but that is sporatic
I have HDR capable monitors, but neither are bright enough to bother using it since they're standard LCD panels
I have to go get breakfast rn, so is it okay if I ping you later arcsane?
You can - I'm usually in and out thorugh the day so there might be a delay on getting back to you thouygh
x264 would have different options since that's a software encoder that runs entirely on the CPU
Okay
Not sure if I should just use a whole different streaming program lol. I'm not necessarily married to OBS, it's just the one I was told by the most people to use. Not sure if there's another one that's better though. I do plan on having some visual overlays soon.
I know some folks have been trying Meld Studio lately.
I'm kind of curious why the OBS Preview seems to be behaving oddly for both of you in here today though. I may have to take a look at my own setup this afternoon
Actually. . . if you go into your source properties on OBS, for the capture card, is there a buffering option you can turn on?
Oh dang! I didn't realize me an MaNaRo were having the same issue! 😮
Gonna check now!
There is! But it's set to auto-detect, should I enable it?
There are also these additional options.
Try it both on and off and see if either works better
It's possible the auto detect isn't working right for it
Just tried it and it's still running at 20-30 FPS on both settings. Is there a way to 'nuke' OBS's settings and completely factory reset the entire program? I don't have any fancy layouts i can't easy setup in 30 minutes.
I'm wondering if maybe setting OBS to pure, out-of-the-box settings may help to determine what the issue may be. Especially since Studio worked straight out of the box.
You could try that. Generally switching to a new profile from the OBS profiles menu should pretty much do that while keeping your old profile so you can swtich back
I'm also wondering if this might be a version specific issue or something
For what it's worth, I just updated OBS to the newest version today (it wasm't fully updated last time I messaged about this last week), and it was still causing issues!
Also, just to make sure, anything I should add/rremove here?
In terms of the settings.
(Not sure if it will make a difference, since the card works perfectly on the stream, and only lags on the previewer).
Just made a new profile and it looks suspiciously smooth lol (even though all of my previous overlays are still present, so I'm not sure what changed? .>.) I'll keep you updated as the day goes on
Update: It went back to 30 FPS :/
😐 Those settings look fine at least
The fact it's working fine in Elgato Studio and not OBS is still throwing me
Not sure if this makes a difference, but i noticed my GPU going to 50% when it changed. But yeah, Studio works completely perfectly, no hitches at all.
Tried searching Google and someone said there's a 'Performance Mode' in OBS?
Could that be changing it?
I am not familiar with that option
oh, it disables preview entirely for the sake of recording performance
ohhh gotcha. ok yeah don't want that lol!!
why is my capture card in obs sometimes showing the default resolution as 1080p and sometimes 4k
When using Discord option to capture the device, the capture card is also capturing my microphone through it and is pushing it through the stream. This was with neither Studio nor Capture ultility open. My friend could hear me through my stream while I was muted through discord.
Capture card can't capture your mic itself - but Discord has an additional audio dropdown you may have to specifically set as it could default to your mic.
Is it possible for you to show me where this option is
If you have Nitro it'll look like this and the audio option is there in the drop down
Give me a min to get the non-nitro setup
I have Nitro, I found it
Ok. Just since I already dug it up, non nitro users have to click the settings icon when setting up the stream
This feels less on Elgato and more on Discord's pigheadedness
now
but none of my friends are online to confirm that mic issues are fixed
like you're a voip program that requires someone to be in voice to stream, why would you feel the need to duplicate the mic source and push it through in two different things running at the same time
I guess for people that are deafened but then they're still stuck hearing your voice having a disembodied conversation with anyone else potentially in the call
Yeah, Discord screen share has . . quirks? That sounds like the polite way to put it.
Currnetly I can't even get mine to work with the audio at all 😐
How many sources can the 4k pro be selected in?
like for example selected as a video device in
or is it better to just use obs virtual camera for all the other ones?
What do you mean by sources here? Do you mean how many OBS Sources? Because a single OBS Source can be used in multiple scenes, so you wouldn't really need multiple 4K Pro sources.
Like lets say I want to select the device in obs and tiktok live studio at the same time
Hm. I'm not actually sure in that case - I know it supports Multi-app unlike the USB cards, but I'm not sure the upper limit on that.
That might be a question to send to the team through #official-tech-support
@past basin Hey im back! are you avalible right now to help?
I just noticed this was changed around in my reset, could it be something to do with this?
okay thank u!
Maybe. You might also want to try changing the buffering settings in the source list for the capture card to see if that helps. It's auto detect by default but sometimes that isn't the best option, so trying the other two may help.
do u know what these settings do?
i had it set to internal before but switching it i think made it more stable
where will the source list be if I may ask?
wait i found it
They change the EDID settings -those tell connected devices like your console what display options and resolutions and such are available. Display sends the monitor list through so all modes the monitor supports should be available. Merged tries to merge the list from the monitor with the card, and Internal uses the card's list only (or the one selected in the bottom box, which only applies in internal mode - that's usually used when there's notable compatibility issues with a display)
Glad to hear it, just getting back there sorry. I'm going to be in and out there for a bit
It seems like internal would be the best for a dual pc set up then right?
Only issue is theres no profile for 4k60fps
Anyone have problem with capturing 4k 60 with xRGB where the screen keep flicker to "no signal" once in a while?
If there's a monitor in the HDMI Out port of the card, yes. If there's not, Input EDID mode set to Internal may work better
oh the output port of my capture card isnt being used
just input to get the gameplay to my stream pc
I'd set it to Internal, Default then
only problem is, obs and tiktok live studio see the cards max resolution as 1080p when on internal + default
when set to display it actually registers as 4k res
on my game pc I have the card set as a monitor that clones the display at 4k 60fps
Thats' . . not expected for 4K Pro. Though the fact OSB and TikTok are doing it may indicate it might be what you're connecting to the card that's switching modes rather than the card itself. Note that if whatever you're capturing goes over 4K60 (eg 4K120) it would cause resolution for capture to drop to 1080p
oh im capturing 4k 240
my game is set to that
and so is my monitor
cloning
Yeah, sorry been a long day. Need more coffee soon 🙂
No dont worry! Im grateful for ur help!
When you reset the EDID windows on the gaming PC probably reset the refresh rate on the cloned setup. Try setting to Internal then on the gaming PC in the advanced settings for the card set the refresh rate to 60 Hz - that should let the main monitor get 240Hz fine, while the capture card will get a 4K60 signal so it doesn't scale down the resolution on you
thats what i do
my gaming pc has two displays listed as merged in the display settings
i went to advanced to make the main monitor 240 and 60 for the 4kpro
Yeah - when you flip the EDID setting though, Windows on the gaming PC is goign to see it as a different display (the name may actually change if specific EDID's are set) so you may have to set that up again once you switch to Internal
so Im messing with my settings rn and I seem to have maybe found something
if I edit my recording settings it doesnt allow me to edit my stream settings even if I close and reopen
its really wierd
and its like no matter what I seem to try it just wont work
yeah, it's still 240 there, so I'd check that if you haven't already
Hey guys - anyone ever had this problem? I upgraded my PC and installed the cam link pro on a new mobo, and I have this problem on 2 different PCI slots
anyone had this issue before or heard of it?
Tried reinstalling drivers, restarting, reslotting etc
I bought a USB 3.2 gen 2 type A last night and it seems to have mixed the problems to where I get random rare audio issues but also trash quality overall. I can seel the weird miscolored pixels all over and it doesnt mesh well. This kinda shows an example around the outlines of everything.
I've attempt to update the ASMedia controllers but there was seemingly no update.
For clarity: This is an ROG Maximus X Hero. The ports are USB 3.1 Gen 1 with one type A and other type C.
Any other ideas for what may fix the issues? I guess another question would be, is it worth it to return the card and use a 4k Pro?
Hi! I'm noticing a slight issue when using my 4K Pro capture card. Randomly every now and then the audio will drop out for a split second. Outside of that picture and audio are fine, this issue happens with OBS monitoring, if I use "listen to this device" in windows, and in the 4K Capture utility. If I plug my earphones directly into my monitor, they don't have the issue, making me think the issue isn't related to passthrough. (Ignore the overlay and faint spinning circle from an overlay, I'm just testing while recording in OBS)
thats for the main monitor tho
The elgato is set to 60
but where is this 144 coming from in the 4k software?
Sometimes after messing with EDID's it may help to restart both PCs if the modes don't appear like they're working right. Not the first time I've seen 4KCU get the wrong source signal there
Look like compresison artifacts maybe. What app are you using the card with again? And is it set to MJPEG if it's something like OBS or Streamlabs?
4k Capture Utility & not running it through any other program.
Is that screencap from the preview or a recording?
If it's from a recording, bitrate settings in recording might be too low
Preview
Try muting the card and adding it back to OBS as an Audio Input Capture - sometiemes pulling the audio through the video feed in OBS can result in minor issues like sample rate mismatch or drift. That hiccup might be audio resyncing form sample rate not matching what it expects (in video mode OBS usually pulls 44.1 kHz, but it defaults to record in 48)
Fullscreen or windowed? Sometimes windowed mode will reduce quality a little from scaling
They show up in both. One was worse than the other but Idr which because I stepped away.
This is 4K X right? Try it with the Elgato Studio Beta - https://www.elgato.com/s/beta - if the video is better in that we know it's a software or config issue, not hardwware
It looks much much better here.
for the sake of comparison
Easier just to share this over discord now but now theres a buzzing sound in the audio which was never there previously and doesn't presist on 4k cap util.
I can't hear anything in that clip - can you make some other noise in there so I can make sure I'm not just missing audio in it?
It might be a little quiet to hear, I had to turn the video to max to hear the buzzing but sure.
Actually my audio interface might be down 😐
Longer version if needed
I will say, if returning it and going for the 4k Pro instead is an option rather than picking around to find very specific issues that may not even be resolvable/hardware based, I might go for that.
Assuming the 4k Pro would work better based on the motherboard rather than USB in this scenario.
Can't hear buzz but it's going to be a while before my work area is quiet enough to really focus on it, there's work going on outside the window 😐
Is the buzz in preview too, or just the recording?
Only used preview, not recording & it's only in this application.
Will try that and see how it goes, thank you!
Hey guys how are you? I have a HD60S+ and got a new pc and monitor setup this year. It stopped working and said 'no input' / 'no hdmi detected' - it picks up that there is an hd60s+ connected but it wont show it on streamlabs or 4k capture utility (i downloaded elgato studio beta today to try see if that worked but it just said to connect a usb 3.0 instead of a 2.0. so i got a elgato wire (or like a dupe) from amazon today and it's still not working and claiming im using a 2,0 when ihave a usb 3.0) please help!
Hey, having a strange audio issue with the HD60x and Switch 2, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same kind of thing. I have it setup so I am always "listening" to the audio output of the capture card and every time i dock or turn on the docked switch 2, I get a horribly loud crackling static noise coming through my headphones. The odd thing is that this only occurs if there is nothing previewing the capture. If I start streaming on discord or open elgato studio before turning on / docking the switch 2 then there is no problem at all and there's no problems at all with the capture or audio afterwards. But this is incredibly annoying and I don't want to have to leave elgato studio open in the background forever to avoid accidental hearing/headphone damage. Recorded the noise with my phone as capturing the audio on device makes it not occur, but its obviously much worse in person.
Hi, I've been trying for a week and a half to solve this issue. Very few people have also posted about this online and no working solution has been presented.
I use the 4K Pro and have 4K Capture Utility, Studio, and OBS installed. In all 3 I experience an issue where the video will rapidly segment itself multiple times a second. This happens when I set the resolutions to 1440p (my monitor resolution), but 1080p and below works perfectly. Sometimes it cooperates for a while but then after a recording or two it goes back to this behavior. This does not show up on my monitor; the video works perfectly there, and the audio coming through the software also works perfectly, except for a random flash of "no signal" here and there as a result of this video issue.
I've tried literally everything. I've tried using different EDID settings, power cycling my Switch 2 and cold booting my PC, using different compatible HDMI cables, using different PCIE ports (though it only works with one of them)... same thing keeps occurring. It's worth noting that I used this card for months with an original Switch 1, which was locked at 1080p, but 1440p on the Switch 2 is what's causing this to happen.
Any help is appreciated.
You can problably ignore the USB 2.0 warning - we're currently setting false positives on that in the beta version of Studio. If 4K Capture Utility doesn't also complain about USB speed it's fine.
What are you trying to capture with the capture card? sometiems we've seen things happen like a PS5 turning HDCP back on, which would result in a black screen. Windows (or macOS) privacy settings for cameras (which includes capture cards) can wind up turned off blocking access to the video feed sometimes too
This is some sort of timing issue. Most common cause is VRR, but you can rule that out with switch 2 since it doesn't do VRR when docked.
Most common issue with Switch 2 so far for it seems to be EDID problems (though it could also be a cable issue or interference in with the cable). Switch 2 seems to be picky with EDIDs and may need to be disconnected and reconnected from HDMI to force it to resync when you go changing settings for EDID on the capture card. If it's only not working on the card try setting the Input EDID Mode to Internal, and set the EDID Internal option to the same resolution as your monitor, then disconnect and reconnect the console and see what if anything changes. If it still doesn't play nice, test it with the monitor in the HDMI port actually disconnected and see if the problem is stil there
Same thing keeps happening even after trying all of these. Right now the only solution seems to be dropping my resolutions to 1080p but that's not ideal for a 4k capable card. Hoping it's not a problem with the capture card itself.
Still happening sadly, I can see in OBS logs that it's at the right hz. It happens outside of OBS too, like in 4K Capture Utility and when using listen to this device in windows. Just tried updating BIOS and GPU drivers and the issue is still there, at a bit of a loss at what to try next.
Howdy folks! I am brand new to streaming, got a 4k Pro PCIe card, and I can't even get past the easy part 😦
2 PC setup. When I plug the HDMI out of the gaming PC to the capture card on the streaming PC, the monitor on the gaming PC (connected to the gaming PC via DisplayPort) gets wonky, falls out of sync, and most of the time stays black. Though sometimes it syncs and works as expected.
I tried several HDMI cables, just in case.
Also, for some reason, it seems some games think that the resolution of my gaming monitor (which is a 3440x1440 UW) is intead that of my streaming monitor (2560x1440) where the capture card is. So I suspect this is at the root of it, I'm not sure what if anything could be done about it 😦
If you removed the display from the HDMI out, had EDID set to internal and remembered to disconnect and reconnect the Switch 2's HDMI port to resync it with those new settings and are still getting this scrolling it's time to talk to #official-tech-support . The only other things I can suggest trying in the meantime are making sure your firmware is up to date in the settings and swapping the HDMI cable tiself.
You have some sort of EDID hiccup going on there it sounds like (EDIDs are basically what the monitor and capture card send out telling the devices what display modes are available). Is the monitor in question in the HDMI OUT of the catpure card?
No, I double checked, it's plugged into the in of the capture card... I thought that as well, like how in the world is the gaming PC deciding its own monitor has a different resolution, coincidentally that of the monitor the capture card computer is in. It's kinda driving me crazy, maybe to the point of not even bothering with the second PC
Also because it seems that HDR doesn't like to work when monitors are "mirrored" or combined like this (if one of them is not HDR capable?) And then the whole no g-sync pass through, starting to feel like to many gaming compromises just for streaming :/
Oh I may have answered your first question incorrectly. When I plug the gaming monitor into the out of the capture card, g-sync doesn't work and there is a lot of screen tearing. I can turn on the native v-sync of the game, and that seems to help
Hello i have a quick random question. can i use teh HD60 X to act as a dock for a switch? Going out of town for work, and i dont feel like taking my personal dock and they dont sell extras yet, so was trying to figure out if i could use this to act as a dock
i did it @crisp crown 😄

Losing HDR when cloning is normal - Windows does that regardless if the display supports HDR or not.
what sort of GPU do you have? If it's NVidia can you use the NVidia Control panel to make sure you're cloning the monitors in the right order? I'm assuming from the problem description you're using games in fullscreen, and things can get weird if the capture card is cloned to the monitor instead of the other way around since not all games handle cloning quite the same as Windows. If you check in the multi display setup in NVidia control panel you can right click on the layout and choose which one is the source
No, HD60 X will only connect tot he console via HDMI, that USB connection is for getting video to the computer, not output, so it cannot work as a dock.
damn, thanks
I may not have enough experience doing that... they seem to "automatically" clone and from within the Nvidia panel, I can't seem how to undo it (or do it). Let me mess with that again, I'll try the right click thing. I wonder if it can be as simlpe as that!
This should give you an idea where to find the option
I'm not cloning at the moment so the clone source is greyed out, but make sure that on your setup it's set to the monitor not the capture card's virtual screen
hi hi
i wanna stream my switch to my pc so i dont have to hold it when im in a call
in a window or something, not in a call or anything i just wanna be able to see my switch screen and audio on my pc so i can also hear my discord calls and whatever
so i bought a hd60, plugged it into the input, plugged the usb into my pc, and it only works if i plug the hd60's "out" into my tv
but im not looking at my tv, i dont need my tv on, i just wanna capture the gameplay so i can see it on my screen
how can i use my hd60 with my switch to see it on my computer monitor without needing to plug it into my tv?
hi when im muted on discord people can still hear me through my elgato it seem like
so boom muted but through my screen share people can hear me
any ideas how to fix that
i got an issue with my capture card
i just connected it to stream and this one don't work
and when i connect the capture card and i go to devices administrator this appear
Code 43 of windows when i open that one
I'm French, excuse my English. I can't get an image on the obs software using the hd60 S for dual pc.
Are u streaming through discord? If so it defaults the audio device to your microphone, you have to go to bottom right and set it to elgato every time before u start the stream
Can you confirm the model of capture card you're using? Game Capture HD is an older capture card, but it's also an application - OBS may be set to capture the wrong thing.
Also if it is a HD60 S, does it work correctly with 4K Capture Utility from https://www.elgato.com/downloads ? That'll tell us if it's an OBS config issue or something else
Which specific capture card do you have? Some of them do not work with the old Game Capture HD app, and would need 4K Capture Utility or the standalone driver installed to show up
one sec
the issue also happens in obs
Yes, does your card work when you use it with that application or not?
Does it give you any kind of error or just a blank screen
Try installing the latest Game Capture HD driver from https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027961152-Elgato-Hardware-Drivers and rebooting
no devices found
Also make sure you don't have both OBS and Game Capture HD open at the same time there
this appears
Even after you installed the new driver and rebooted?
the pc?
Yes. After you install the new driver from the link I gave you, reboot the PC
ok
You're sure you're on HD60 S right? That sounds like the comptuer isn't seeing the capture card at all. Is it using the original USB 3.0 cable? Does the light bar on top flash white twice when you connect the USB?
still the same
Happen to have another USB Mini B cable you can test that card with just in case the cable is failing with age? I'm assuming you get this same error if you try a different port?
Electronics stores may have one, or online retailers like Amazon. Any USB 2.0 Mini B cable should work for the original Game Capture HD
(it does have to be USB 2.0 - you can also get USB 1.x cables with the same connector but they do not provide enough power or bandwidth and will cause errors similar to cable failure).
this one can work? ( i just founded in amazon)
If it's listed as USB 2.0 speed, that one should work. Just make sure it says USB 2.0 or 480 Mbps somewhere
You might want to check the existing cable for signs of dirt or corrision on the pins too, especially if it hasn't been used in a long time
I can't tell from the picture, but it was just an idea to check. If you've tried other USB ports on the computer and they're at least 2.0 ports, then next thing to check if the cable. If a new cable doesn't help there may actually be issues with the card itself
hello, im having an issue where my source confirms 4k60 HDR, but the capture is stuck at 1080p60 for my 4kpro that i just set up. any ways on how to fix this? im using a ps5 pro, the sony included hdmi IN and the elgato included HDMI out into a 4k monitor
I really hope someone can help me with this. So I just got my 4K60 Pro Mk.2. I use a 1440p Monitor and have a Switch 2 as well as a PS5. These consoles are connected to the 4K60 Pro which is then connected to my monitor. So far so good. When I select a resolution of 1080p or lower everything works fine. But as soon as I select 1440p my PC starts lagging like crazy. While it seems to matter how many other programs are running, it lags even with only 4K Capture Utility open. I have 64GB of DDR5 RAM, a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a RTX 3080. So I dont think at all that my system is "bottlenecking" anything. Maybe impotant as well: I didnt record anything at all. The lag happens just by opening 4K Capture Utility or any other program that displays the capture crad.
Heres some things I tried:
- every EDID setting there is (with intern I tried 1080p which didnt lag as well as 1440p and 4K which lagged just like when I set EDID to monitor)
- enable / disable hardware acceleration in Windows settings
- changing every recording (encoding as well) setting to the lowest option
That capture is generally set by the recording settings. Is the recording resolution set to 1080p still by any chance?
No, its at 4k. It also stays at 1080 regardless of where I put the setting (as long as its equivalent to 1080 or higher)
Does the motherboard slot actually have x4 wired up (and not split off for a m.2 slot or anything)? 4K60 Pro Mk2 does weird things above 1080p60 when you don't have the required number of PCIe lanes available.
also if i turn hdr off it still stays at 1080, ive tried that as well (both in app, on ps5 pro, and both at same time)
What is the GPU you're using for encoding? 4K Capture Utility may be limited in some aspects when not using an NVidia GPU, or if you're set to software encoding.
Gigabytes RTX 5070 TI
Is that what's actually set as your video encoder?
yes, its on auto and defaulting to it
I really dont know how to check that. But what I can tell you is that I use every single one of my 3 M.2 SSD Slots. I have a Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite Wifi7 Ice
should it be set to software?
Both of the bottom slots on that board are only wired for only 1 PCIe lane according to the manual. That motherboard doesn't meet the official system requirements for 4K60 Pro Mk2, and you'll probably never get it to work right above 1080p60.
You can try software to see what happens, but generally it should work for 4K60 recording with the NVidia encoder
You said the card was 4K Pro, right?
it didnt change anything, i tried it
yes, the 4k pro internal capture card
not sure what i could possibly be missing unfortunately
Big yikes. Do you know of any way where I can have 1440p passthrough but "set" the 4K60 Pro to 1080p?
Try it with another app like the Elgato Studio beta (https://www.elgato.com/s/beta ). That'll rule out some potential issues
changed input EDID to merged from display, that also didnt fix it, im just throwing some stones i found earlier on the internet but nothings struck so i came here
gotcha
If you set it to 1080p in your capture app for recording this might work, but I can't promise anything since it's outside the official requirements
In 4KCU that'd be on the recording tab
Looks good - I'd make a test recording and confirm it comes out the right resolution
Thanks for the help. But unfortunately as long as the "device resolution" is set to 1440p it is lagging.
shouldnt the format say 2160? i recorded it though and went into properties and it says 1080
Sorry I should have phrased that as setup a recording. Does it let you change the resolution when you choose that option.
If it still tries to scale down to 1080p check the device perferences section in Studio to see if it has a firmware update
4K Pro will step down to 1080p if you go above 4K60, but should record 4K60 when youre AT 4K60 like that shows
setup a recording as in hit the record button in the app correct?
also, i checked for updates in studio and found none
Something isn't right here that this issue followed you to a completely different program. Can you shut down that PC, unplug AC power for about 20 seconds and reconnect it so the capture card actually loses power and resets
done, is there a specific app that i should try first?
Either should be fine since we were seeing the issue in both
still stuck aat 1080 in 4kCapture Utility, not showing any video in elgato studio
opened 4kCap first, closed it then opened Studio if that matters
What on earth
Does installing the lastest driver from https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027961152-Elgato-Hardware-Drivers have any effect?
Also what motherboard do you have in that machine?
I have an ASUS B650E Gaming Max Wifi W and i will check if reinstlling it helps, brb
Also, i think the beta just bugged out, it started showing video when i just reopened it
gonna restart to make sure drivers are good
@past basin Since I dont want to buy another product which I cant use or doesnt work for me I might as well ask you 😬 I basically only want to capture/stream in 1080p. But I need 1440p HDR10 passthrough. Do I need the 4K X or is the Game Capture Neo enough? Does the Neo support HDR passthrough?
Gone through the manual for that motherboard there now - is the card isntalled in the very bottom slot? That's the only one that will actually give it a full x4 lanes of bandwidth
it is
i was having issues earlier where it wouldnt display a signal in app but the passthrough to monitor was working
so then i changed it to that lane
4K X, and HD60 X should both do 1440p HDR10 passthrough with at least 60 Hz (get 4K X if you need 120 on the). Neo can do 1440p60 passthrough but won't pass anything higher than 1080p 60 SDR to the PC
Good, that's one potential issue gone at least. Trying to remember how to pull up the settings for 4K Pro's driveres to make sure it's seeing the full lane count
If it wasn't for the fact you tried the software encoder I'd have assumed the NVIdia GPU drivers needed an update tbh
also i did the reinstall of the drivers and a restart and no luck
If you turn off features like VRR and HDR on whatever you're capturing, does anything change?
no, still 1080p
Is there anything with a virtual camera like NVidia Broadcast or something running? Since that card has Multiapp support it's possbile something is already trying to use it and pull a 1080p signal that's locking the card's output to 1080p
Since the capture card shows to the OS as a camera that could trip things up
Other apps like Discord or Teams that do video confernecing could set it as their default camera too
(if you're on Windows 11, the privacy settings for cameras can actually list any app that's making recent camera calls too)
If there is any app using it, change it to default to something else and it should let go and unlock the other recording modes
discord in discords settings was default to elgato and i changed it to OBS, but that didnt change it. i also switched off camera and feedback hub so its only Elgato Studio and 4k Cap Utility that can use it but that hasnt changed it either
okay so i went and turned off multiapp for the elgato and this happened
so capture is correct but screen is black on 4k utility
but it works correctly in Studio
Oh for the love of. . . I didn't realize that new feature could get applied to the PCIe cards too. The Windows Multiapp does weird things sometimes - its' a very new thing for them.
The card's own Multi App is something else
You might need to reboot to reset everything before 4KCU plays nice with it again
this is gonna be a dumb question bc i understand that this app is in beta but how stable is this beta?
I guess im asking am i better off recording from here for now on or trying to get 4k Cap to work
Generally it's been pretty stable so far aside from some false positives on USB 2.0 detection, and some UI hiccups (eg if you hold CTRL on the card selection it can bug out and you'll need to restart it)
wait wth
so on its own it didnt display a screen but opening them both and it displays
lol
It might work fine on it's own now too
closed them both and opened on its own = black screen again
I'd check to see if that persists through a reboot
but for what its worth when i closed studio first it didnt immediately blackscreen
okay, brb, ill let oyu know if it worked or not
ill do a full cold boot
nope, still black screen
Huh. The fact 4KCU isn't working but Studio is, is throwing me
If the card is outputting correct video they should both be getting it
I have seen reports of Studio sometimes preventing other apps from using the card's multi-app - but you're getting the exact opposite of that
What if you use a third party app like Windows Camera app or OBS Studio?
as in allow it to use elgato as its cam and then open said app to see if i can see the card as a source?
yeah - the card shows up as a camera to the system so any app that uses a camera should generally be able to use it
I think for the Windows one you just have to hit the switch camera button til it comes up, I don't believe they let you select from a list
Been a bit since I tried though
i can see it through cam
Hiccup is likely with 4KCU then - you might want to try reinstalling it if you want to use that one instead of Studio (it does have Flashback recording if you use that, which Studio doesn't currently support - but Studio also supports high refresh rate recording which 4KCU doesn't).
flashback recording is just temporarily storing footage for clips correct?
Yeah, kinda like clipping on Twitch
also, could i technically use both since 4KCU works when studio is open? as in have 4kCU open for flashback and have studio open for my high refresh rate recording?
That's true
I'm on 4K X myself - the USB cards don't have mutli-app, so I didn't even think about that
multiapp is for recording on 4KCU and streaming from OBS right?
which means if i use both 4KCU and Studio i cant stream, so then i gotta choose one
but if im streaming then i could just clip from there so i guess thats 4KCU already in a way
It means you can use the card with more than one app at a time - I can't do that with my 4K X, since it's UVC based. It's mostly limited to the PCIe cards these days
I am not actually sure the upper limit of how many apps can use it at once tbh
Though 4KCU also has Stream Link you can turn on to output the video as an NDI Source for something like OBS with DistroAV to use to add in even more apps
Okay thanks a lot for the help! I’ll probably continue troubleshooting 4KCU tomorrow, I kinda prefer that one honestly.
I saw something about stream link on the elgato website but I haven’t read into it yet, I’ll have to check it out as I’m not sure what that means (the NDI stuff)
Did a full reinstall of 4KCU and its still doing the black screen
when i open 4KCU first i get this
when i open studio first i get actual picture and sound, except studio has this weird dull tint to it that you can see here
tint only happens once 4KCU opens, whenever its closed Studio has correct colors (before and after)
anybody still having Switch 2 audio issues?
That colour cast is from HDR tonemapping. Normally the cards have HDR to SDR tonemapping built in, and turned on by default because not all programs or streaming platforms support HDR, letting you game in HDR on passthrough and capture in SDR. 4KCU turns it off when it launches and uses software mapping (unless HDR recording is actually on), but that means that while 4KCU is running Studio is getting raw HDR video too. Normally for Studio to turn off the tonemapping you'd have to change it in the settings in the pull out side panel., but 4KCU is just beating it to the punch in this scenario
Gotcha, the camera app was also doing that tone mapping thing then too while I was testing out opening the camera app
Makse sense, since it's likely the hardware tonemapping on the card there
I’m not the most technologically savvy person but yeah I can’t figure this out for the life of me lol, I was scouring the internet before I joined the discord
Could the card be the issue? Idk if that possible or not given the fact that it works temporarily after booting up anything else that uses the camera
I just don’t know why it wouldn’t display until you open something else first to metaphorically “open the gate”
Honestly that's throwing me too - you might have to get #official-tech-support to take a look at the logs there to see what's going on. From what we've gone through so far I do't' see any reason for 4KCU not to get video from that card.
That said 4KCU 1.7.14 did make a jump to using ffmpeg which had some hiccups on some setups - you could try 1.7.13 from https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/sections/5126053814029-Elgato-4K-Capture-Utility-Release-Notes to see if that works any better.
I know I'd seen some 4K60 Pro Mk2 users get black screens on 4KCU since the change there - though I thought 1.7.15 had fixed that
Okay, I’ll try 1.7.13. And if that does or doesn’t work I’ll put results here. Then I’ll try official tech support. I really do appreciate all your help though! You’ve been amazing and helped me get it to where it can capture in 4k again and Studio looks better even though it doesn’t have flashback.
Good luck! Glad we've gotten some of it sorted out, hopefully support can take care of the last of it!
I just bought an HD60 X, having audio delay issues, i fixed it by adding a seperate audio input source from the capture card itself, great, audio is fixed now, except now i have my desktop audio playing the original delayed sound from my console as well as the 2nd input, the sync'd input and the delayed input, making it hard to monitor sound through my headset. I have the desktop audio muted in OBS yet i still hear the original delayed audio. Am i doing something wrong?
for example: i do something on console to make sound, and i heard the sync'ed audio first, then shortly after the sync'ed audio plays i also get the echo of the delayed audio???
Did you remember to mute the Video Capture Device in your audio mixer? If you don't mute it first you'll continue to get both feeds.
Generally you shouldn't be including Desktop Audio in most stream setups anyway, unless you specifically need to capture something that doesn't go through other capture tools, as it can cause issues, especially if your Desktop Audio feed is the same as your Monitor Output device.
Device: HD60 Pro
Software & Version: Latest Game Capture HD
Windows/Mac Version: Win11
Console/Dual PC: PC
PC/Mac Specs: 32 GB RAM, b450 Steel Legend Mobo, Ryzen 5 5600X
Monitor/TV Model: Legion PC monitor
Are you using the cable included in the box? (Yes/No): no
Question/Issue: "no capture device found"
I haven't used the card in a while, i have updated the mobo, cpu and ram in the past year or so, probably haven't used the card since before that. Now i am using a camera with an hdmi out to the card, but the capture card isn't showing up in the system
I bought an hd60 s off of ebay, and in obs when im streaming my switch it randomly drops from 60 to 30 and it fails to stay consistent. my friend owns an hd 60 s as well and doesnt have this issue? any ideas for a fix?
PC Specs: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
ive also tried the elgato 4k capture utility software, but it feels like that software gives me input lag and has more issues with framerate than obs does
i've muted both besides the extra Elgato input i manually added in, and its still echo'ing/delayed after the initial sync?
i recorded a quick clip and the extra delayed sounds are not in the stream/clips. So for now as a workaround i've completely muted OBS and just listen to the game off of my monitor's default speakers
Just for future reference, still the same issue on older versions of 4KCU. Still have to open camera, studio, or anything else that can see through the card in order to gain temporary access with 4KCU.
When i have the Elgato audio set to Monitor and Output, i get a perfectly synced up audio but with the downside of having the delayed audio play right after the original audio track (echo'ing) but when i set the monitoring to off, i get only 1 audio track but its only delayed and not sync'ed, how can i fix it so that i am only hearing 1 audio track with the sync'ed audio?
Desktop Audio and Video Capture Device 2 (Elgato Video Source) are both muted yet i can still hear the delayed audio coming from the Audio Input Capture (Elgato Audio) directly after the normal sound is played
Check the properties on your capture card in the sources list and make sure the audio dropdown at the bottom is set to Capture Only
doing that gives me no more audio, hmm
nevermind fixed!
TY

Hello everyone! I'm stupid for not coming here sooner!
But I have a problem... I have an Elgato HD60 X, and I use it for my streams and videos, but I have a problem I have a 2K 240Hz HDR screen, and I have a PS5, and I would like to have feedback on my screen in 2K 120Hz HDR all in recording in 2k60Hz, but the only problem is that I can't activate 2K 120Hz HDR through the Elgato HD60 X.
Do you have a solution ?
Summary:
- Odyssey G6 32" 240Hz 2560 x 1440 Monitor
- PS5
- Elgato HD60 X
- HDMI cable from my console to the Elgato HD60 X
- The second HDMI cable that goes from my display to the Elgato HD60 X is the cable that came with the PS5
I want to play in 2K 120Hz HDR using my PS5 (monitoring) and film in 2K60Hz using the Elgato^

Are you using the cable included in the box? No
Windows version : Windows 11 Professionnel 24H2
PC Specs : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700F, RAM 32,0 Go, RTX 3060ti
HD60 X won't support 1440p120 with HDR as a source (see: https://e.lga.to/HD60X_Resolution ), only 1440p60 HDR, or 1440p120 SDR.
I think that spec you're looking for actually requires HDMI 2.1 for bandwidth reasons since HDR uses more data, which exceeds the HDMI 2.0 spec HD60 X uses.
You'd liklely need one of the newer cards, 4K X or 4K Pro that do HDMI 2.1 for that
Okay, thank you very much for your reply!
What card do you think I should get to get a 2K 120Hz HDR output on my screen and still be able to record in 2K 60Hz?
4K X would be the closes equivalent to HD60 X that would do it. Note that the external cards all have limits on HDR recoridng thoguh - by default they pass through HDR to your monitor and tonemap it to SDR for the recording, so check the list here https://e.lga.to/4K_X_Resolutions if you need to also record in HDR.
4K X also requires a 10 Gbps port like USB 3.2 Gen 2 for access to all modes
Though it'll work with reduced options on a 5 Gbps port too
Okay! Great, I'll buy the 4K X.
Thank you for your comprehensive and quick responses!
No problem, good luck with it
Does the video still have the fps slowdown in 4K Capture Utility? 4KCU may have higher rendering time which can feel like increases latency but knowing if it still has the fps change would be useful in narrowing down the issue.
You might also want to try manually setting the buffer setting for the card in your OBS Sources list
yes it does still have the fps slowdown
buffer setting?
oh wait i see
its disabled atm
Check and see if that helps
You might want to try the newest driver from here too https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027961152-Elgato-Hardware-Drivers
cant believe that fixed it. thank you so much!!!
saved me from stressing
Was it the buffer or the driver? Glad it sounds like it's sorted either way
buffer
surprisingly
if my monitor (zowie xl2566x+) uses DP cable for 400hz how do i use that with the elgato capture card if its only HDMI port
@past basin
None of the current capture cards support 400Hz anyway, so assuming this is a dual PC setup, set it up with a cloned display. Plug the capture card into the HDMI of your gaming PC and the monitor in to the DP, leave HDMI out on the capture card empty, then in display settings on the Gaming PC clone your monitor to the capture card
That way the GPU can sort out the difference
@past basin I'm back. Sorry for the delay in feedback. I was super busy lately. It seems that the previous version you suggested works like a charm. No freeze frames, no sound pops, nothing. There was 1 instance that came from my TV but I'm sure I can figure that out. Thanks for your help. Sorry this was a lengthy fix.
All good, glad to hear it's working. If you want to get newer versions working, you can follow up with #official-tech-support , but the old version shouldn't cause any issues
Okay, so I seriously need some help. I bought a 4KX and have nothing but weird problems here and there. For a week, I could not get audio to come from the thing at all, when connecting my Switch 2. I would restart obs, the console, unplug and replug in the 4KX, nothing.
Then, on the Elgato youtube channel, a video on how to set up your elgato capture card for switch 2 gets posted, so I say screw it, and just follow it step by step, basically repeating everything I had done. Well, to my surprise, it actually worked. I got both video AND audio, and everything was working great, after days of it just NOT working. This was last night. Well, today, I get home from work, turn on my PC, open OBS, turn on the switch, and bam, no audio, again. I tried everything. I turned off my PC, closed and reopened obs, power cycled the switch, unplugged and replugged the HDMI connections into the capture card, restarted the 4KX. Nothing works. Opened Elgato studio, and there again, no audio.
I seriously don't understand what is possibly wrong with the hardware, but it's extremely frustrating. It's a $200+ card and it will not do the thing I bought it for. It being so painfully inconsistent has been a major setback for me. Please help me figure out what is going on and let's try to make it work every time, like it should. Make it work like it did, not even 24 hours ago.
Apologies if that message sounds a little whiny, it's just been extremely irritating and confusing, trying to get it to just work as it should. Out of eight days of me trying to utilize the 4KX for the Switch 2, only one night, really only about 4 hours of use, did it work correctly.
Hey I’m having trouble with my hd60, it’s saying it’s not not connected to a 3.0 port but I’ve updated drivers and plugged it into usb3 port
Am I able to capture in HDR? I am currently using a color correction filter on a per game basis for my switch 2 as the passthrough hdr looks fine but doesn’t seem to be a way for me to match what the passthrough is showing. Just wanna know if there’s an easier way for me to get the capture to pick up the vibrancy of the game on the switch
Some games look super dark in the capture which is where I utilize the color correction filters.
If it's just the audio that dropped off make sure the audio format is set to Stereo on the console. It won't be able to capture anything else and in some cases monitors and such in the HDMI out port may report formats like Dolby Digitial in their EDID that the console will use. The Switch 2 has been stupidly picky about some EDID settings, audio being one of them - so that's my first guess. Also make sure there's no headset conneted, as that'll mute the HDMI out like it does on any console (including Bluetooth ones if you have them setup).
Can you confirm your card's model? HD60 is a really old card and uses USB 2.0. I'm assuming you have something like HD60 S, S+ or X here?
If you know the port is 3.0, and the card is 3.0, then replace the cable. Most cables out there are NOT 3.0 so if the original cable got swapped out (or the working cable degraded from bends, motion, damage, corrosion, etc), you coul dbe hitting a speed issue. Note that if the card is working and this error is only in Elgato Studio Beta specifically, we're currently seeing false positives in the app and you can ignore that. If it's in another app like 4K Capture Utility or you're also not getting video, then you should be concerned about it.
There's not enough info here - which model of card do you have and what application are you using to record with? For most of the cards you just have to turn on HDR recording, or turn off HDR tonemapping to get a HDR recording - though with the external cards only certain resolutions and refresh rate combos can actually be captured as HDR.
If you're using something like OBS instead, you have to set the app up for HDR then disable the hardware tonemapper on the capture card (in 4KCU this is donw by holdint CTRL, opening settings and turning off the option that turns on the tonemapper when you exit the app). But you have to be sure you've got the OBS side setup right or depending on the issue OBS will either do it's own tonemapping or everything will look a mess. EposVox has a guide on the OBS side of it available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A7beDFV5H0&list=PLzo7l8HTJNK_HIUFhcIqOKSmlz0u0VJpB
so my elgatohd60s is only capturing call of duty but when i try to pull up halo infinite, it doesnt show anything at all... can someone help me out?
I have the HD60X and am trying to get it to support 1440p60 HDR, Using OBS, i downloaded the 4k Capture utility earlier and couldn't find anything in there to configure HDR other than an option that didnt seem like it did much when i change the default setting. So i defaulted back to OBS
What settings would i go about using to get this to work in 4kCU?
I own an xbox and a ps and record using a hd60 x, can I use a HDMI switcher to save me having to keep swapping hdmi cables around or would the hd60 x not like that?
Does the Elgato 4K X still output sound through the USB-C connection if the HDMI Out cable is plugged into a monitor that doesn't have sound output? I'm having an issue where no sound is generated at all either through Windows 11 Sound or OBS when it's plugged into my 1440p Alienware that can't provide sound output, but it will work fine and produce audio through Windows 11/OBS if it's plugged into my 1080p monitor that does support sound output via monitor.
When plugged into the 1440p monitor all sound settings are correct (been working on this for days) and I can get sound from my PC such as YouTube, Spotify, PC games, etc. My speakers are plugged directly into the back of the motherboard. Any ideas?
Assuming this is an Xbox, make sure 120Hz mode, VRR and HDR are off - HD60 S doesn't support any of those, and if you have them turned on in the settings some games may try to use it when others don't, resulting in some games not getting signal.
If you're using 4KCU, turn on HDR recording in the recording tab and it will record to HDR (with a note that the app itself may show it in SDR in the library).
If you're using OIBS, follow the steps in the last post to turn off the HDR Tonemapping on the card and set OBS up for HDR
You can also try the Elgato Studio Beta from https://www.elgato.com/s/beta which you can turn off tonemapping on on the side panel settings.
Again if you hit issues past that make sure the monitor you're watching on is both HDR compatible, and enabled for HDR in the Windows settings, or you won't really see the change anyway.
Can anyone help me I am having troubles with passthrough. I have the 4k60 pro mk.2, using a PS5 and on the Capture utility I can hear sound through but my screen will either black screen off startup, show this screen above, or show a green screen. I recently upgraded my PC specs and to a r7 7700x cpu B650 X AX V2 and a 9070.
i should say that i am able to switch over on my second monitor to the hdmi and see the game on there but cant see it through the 4KCU
Yes, though it's not officially supported. mileage can vary a lot between HDMI Switches for how well they work, but generally it'll work okay. Just make sure you can return it if it has compatibility issues with your specific setup, and if you have to talk to support they'll ask you to take it out temporarily to make sure it's not contributing to any issues you might hit
Is there a display in the HDMI out port of the card, and if so does that get signal? Also double check that HDCP didn';t get turned back on in your PS5 settings during the switchover or with a system update. , as that could result in that same issue
yes theres a display on the outport I use it to actually see the the ps5 on my second monitor and ive checked HDCP hasnt been turned on
If you drop the source to 1080p60 SDR, does the video capture? Looking at that motherboard manual, it doesn't have a x4 slot for the 4K60 Pro Mk2 System Requirements, both bottom slots are PCIe 3.0 x1
If it's not getting enough bandwidth the passthrough may still work since it only needs power, but you may not get video (though sometimes that'll work up to 1080p60 on just one lane - not guanranteed though)
It should still get sound, yes. That said you may have to double check that whatever you are capturing (ps5, Xbox, Switch, etc) is set for Stereo or Linear PCM sound, as sometimes switching displays can result in different audio formats getting chosen and the card only supports Stereo. Also keep in mind that if you're plugging in a headset to accomidate the lack of monitor speakers, you'll lose audio because it mutes the HDMI audio feed when a headset is connected to the console.
when i drop the source to 1080p i usually get a greenscreen
Yeah, that's the other headahce that can happen if there's not enough bandwidth
and when i used it before like a year ago i didnt have any issues
Officially that board isn't compatible with 4K60 Pro Mk2 - not enough PCIe Bandwidth on the slots
so i would need to get a different capture card if i want to stream ?
Likely an external one, yes
It MIGHT be possible to get up to 1080p60 SDR source through that card in a x1 slot, but it's not guaranteed, and might not be fully stable since the card officially needs an x4 slot
anything higher than 1080p60 SDR you're not going to get through it with that motherboard though
so i would set the edid mode to 1080p
Generally you'd set the PS5 to 1080p, disable 120 HZ mode, VRR and HDR
So i got the 4k Capture Utility on HDR now as recommended but i've noticed the source preview in 4KCU is giving me more lag/frame drops/audio skipping than it ever did while previewing in OBS.. Which was virtually lag and stutter free there, I've disabled Flashback recording, anything else that could cause this?
i can deal with a bit of preview delay since i play through the passthrough anyways, but the actual preview is like stuttering both audio and frames in 4kCU while in OBS its not an issue
4K Capture Utility itself may have more latency than OBS on the preview - it shouldn't be dropping frames though. It will favour recording over preview if there's a resource hiccup so check to see if the recordings are smooth
I'm using the capture card for Switch 2 at the moment. Sound is set to stereo in the Switch 2 sound settings after plugging into the 1440p monitor. And I haven't plugged in a headset at all, though I do have a Shure M7+ mic plugged in. But audio isn't running to it in the Windows 11 sound settings, I'm still getting PC audio through the speakers. It's so bizarre and frustrating. I just want to play the Switch 2/stream on the better monitor.
can confirm after recording a small clip there is massive stutters and frame drops 😦 only happening in 4kcu
maybe not massive but definitely noticeable and annoying to watch
