Is it just me or anyone else prefer the old Game Capture HD over 4K Game Capture?

Because for me the 4K one seems to cause a lot of lag and seems to have a lot less options to control the recording without a dashboard like the HD had. 🤔

That's fine. 59 in that case is actually 59.94 which is the broadcast spec version of 1080p60 - it's just shorthand to tell it apart from even 60Hz which comes more from computer monitor timings. That is an older card and can only capture up to 1080p 60Hz so you're running it at max.

Are you using your original cables now? You mention testing them. A lot of USB-A to USB-C (and C to C) cables out there are "charging" cables that run at high wattage and might even have nice braided cables and stuff, but only run at USB 2.0 speeds. Beyond that are there any heavy USB data devices also connected like extra cameras? If there are they might be sharing the same USB root hub (the internal hub on your motherboard) and full USB 3.0 bandwidth might not be available - if that's the case you can check with something like USB Tree View, or just try moving the cable to other ports.

Or disconnect anything else that might be using a lot of USB data to test

Yeah, that definitely sounds abnormal. If you open 4K settings what firmware revision does it show for that on the device tab, if you've still got it connected?

It's a UVC based card so not working on 3 different rigs definitely sounds abnormal

or even just if HDCP is on from a console or something

But yeah, you've tried other PCs, tried other cables. Might be time to contact support. You could try other capture apps like OBS Studio, just to make sure it's not the 4K Capture Utility having issues

Output on the TV should work fine as long as it has power, even if it's not powered from a PC. It just needs power to drive the pass through circuit. No hubs or anything I assume, since you've already used multiple machines with it. Tried multiple apps. Tried official app. Tried other cables. Yeah I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Yeah, that tracks since it gets the power over USB. what I meant there was you could power it with a tablet, probably even a wall charger (not that I'd try) and the pass through would be fine.

As long as it gets power, pass through doesn't need a data link to the PC

Yeah. If it's not working I'd definitely take it out anyway since it limits things to HDMI 2.0

I had to uninstall all the plugins, uninstall nvidia SDK and uninstall WaveLink before the audio issues stopped for me.

Just recieved my Elgato capture card today and set it up. I mainly want to use it to stream to friends on Discord. I see it as a capture device on the "Share you Screen" options on discord. But it infinitely loads with no visual or even sound. So I tried to load it as a Webcam, and it's the same result. I'm not sure what to do. My ps5 shows up just fine in the Elgato 4k app on my PC.

These are my sounds settings. I used my 2nd, and new discord account for this. I created the account just to test the audio in my servers. Ironically I can now watch stuff mobile with my friends when I'm mobile now. lol

So I can't use my El Gato Game Capture software. Normally, I can stream my signal off OBS and I like playing off Game Capture. It was working yesterday but isn't picking up my capture card signal today. My OBS has no problem picking up the capture card but normally I can get both to pick them up. I could have my PS5 and Switch hooked up and just click the splitter when I want to change consoles. Instead of unplugging and plugging in manually to switch consoles. I hope that makes sense

Odd question, does anyone know how to route the sound from the Discord overlay to another channel in Windows? I recently got Wavelink software so I can separate channels in OBS. The problem is, the audio from the overlay seems to only come over the main Windows system channel. (desktop audio). Im trying not to have desktop audio onstream. Its basically a passthrough device, you need an app specifically for your camera by the manufacturer, if there is one. otherwise, it needs to be done manually

Hello all, Am running into a issue with my HD60s+

Context:

Ive owned a HD60s+ for a year or so and i use it with a DSLR camera though 4k capture utility. its worked fine with very few issues

I have now gotten ahold of 2 x HD60 pros and put them in my computer so i can have a total of 3 capture devices.

4K utility can see all three devices, however it only will show the inputs of the 2 pros, and not do anything when i switch to the s+, just tested the DSLR with 4k util on anoter computer and it works fine there.

Any ideas?

~Edit: unplugged my laptop from one of the pros and into the s+ and the s+ starting working, going to see if i can get another non camera device to have 3 devices streaming, if true at that point is a camera issue suddenly? will note the camera sends 2k and ive been using that setting for a year.

~Edit2: was able to plug a 3rd pc into the 60+ and get signal, so now i can assume something is not liked about the camera signal on this machine, (as it works fine on other machines)

and the reason the camera was the only one that wasnt working was cause it was running 2K+ where the monitor inputs were 1080, Andd when i tested it on my laptop (it only has 3.0s) so it just worked.

Final issue is this source no longer wants to show in OBS, but I could see how that is out of scope for this server.

Hello all. Great to find this Discord server with people who know about Elgato products. I would like to ask about a capture card and see if anybody has an opinion. All I need a capture card for is to send an HDMI out from the computer running my VM over to the computer that I stream on. I know it CAN be done because it works with the no-name cheapo capture card I bought a few years ago and put into a closet. I find myself constantly having to unplug and replug that card because the video in the OBS scene freezes on the OBS side but not on the VM I am sending the video from. Does that sound to you like a better quality capture card would resolve that? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hey y'all, I am using a ASUS TUF monitor with my ELGATO HD60S. For some reason my Elgato will not output video to my monitor but it does to other monitors. What's weird is that it worked just an hour ago and now it completely stops?

• Swapped HDMI Cables
• Tried different HDMI Ports
• Cleaned the cables
  Elgato Game Capture clearly sees the audio & the video however my monitor refuses to output any video.

so the capture card can capture via the input source (IN) and output via (OUT) to any monitor, but OBS you'd just select the card and capture what is you're rec. or streaming. As for outputing to a VM, I'm sure there is a tool or software that can do that, but none that I've used.

I have a similar hub but mine is 10 port and uses wall power. I have 3 tablets and 2 phones to charge, and the mouse and keyboard are in there too. As well as a GPS and a flashlight.

Other way around Vic. VM out via HDMI into the card then into USB3 and the scene in OBS uses that faux cam as the video source. It works but after time the scene freezes but the VM is still working fine. I have close OBS, unplug the cap card, reconnect it, and restart OBS. Can't be doing that on a stream.

When you look at device manager is it there? If it is then the mobo is seeing it so that would rule of the slot. If it isn't in device manager then the mobo isn't detecting. What seems odd is that the newer of the two PCs is the one not working. Usually newer hardware is a step forward from older, and I will guess that your newer computer was a step up rather than back. You said you installed drivers, or did you try and it failed?

It's saying that it is being used elsewhere but the only two applications she has open are Discord & 4k Capture. So I actually ran into this same issue awhile back apparently you can't have both applications up, also one other question what exactly is she trying to do specifically? Because if she is recording a video OBS is best to do that on if she is just using a one monitor setup Just using the OBS preview window as a way to view the game play is what I found to work well as you can have both discord and OBS open to see what you are playing. Hopefully that helps 😊

Hi, I've just received my HD60 X and tried to set up with my Nintendo Switch. I have no idea why the screen look like this. On my second screen with the pass-through the image is perfect.

I also tried to connect a second computer in the hdmi input and I had a white filter on all the screen in obs (and a perfect image on the pass-through screen).

I just got the 4K60 Pro MK.2 for my dual PC streaming setup. My streaming PC with the capture card installed is crashing 5-10 minutes into stream everytime. I havent seen any abnormal temps/usage. But the screen will go black and the computer will restart with no error code. I've swapped out the HDMI cable and changed resolution but that hasn't changed anything. I've used a different capture card before getting this and have installed it back in again and it has no issues. What would you guys recommend I try?

hey guys, I make youtube videos and was wondering if a capture card would be a good purchase for me. I have 2 questions:

1. Is a capture card able to record audio on 2 tracks? (I want my mic and game audio seperate)
2. will it take stress of my pc so that it can focus more on the game? like does the capture card encode instead of my pc.

That screen shake is common if VRR is on, and isn't using a mode not properly supported by the capture card. The shifting refresh timings throw off the positioning. Try turning off VRR support, on what I'm assuming is your PS5. It'll be under your Screen and Video Settings. Some of the games on PS5 have different VRR optimizations which could be why you're seeing the effect with some games, but not all of them.

Generally, no, the capture card only records one audio track. Also he PC still does the encoding - capture cards are more for if you're trying to record an external source like a console or secondary PC. There were some older ones that used to have encoders on them, but these days most GPUs already include a hardware encoder to reduce the encoding workload's impact on the PC.

Is it choppy on recording, preview or both? There's a good number of different causes for video choppiness. Choppy recordings are most often encoding settings or hardware performance issues (eg, trying to encode 4K on CPU based encoding without having a beat of a machine). Choppy preview tends to be things like not running OBS as admin to let it hook into HAGS for performance optimizations. Both tend to be things like USB bandwidth overload.

If the stream is blurry but not the preview, odds are the issue is your video encoding settings. Either the encoder isn't set right or the resolution is too high for the selected bitrate (that last one shows up a lot with Twitch streamin because the 6,000 kbps bitrate suggestion they have doesn't work well for high motion games at 1080p and higher - you might want to try turning resolution down to 936p or 720p if you're streamnig fortnite to Twitch)

Depends on how you set it up. The usual complaint folks have at the moment is that it's a HDMI 2.0 card, which limits the refresh rate you can get through it a bit on some of the newer high end screens that support HDMI 2.1 - you can get around that though by hooking it up to a different port on the GPU and cloning your display to it. That does have a very minor impact, maybe a handful of FPS on the GPU since it's now cloning the display, but gets around the refresh rate issue since the GPU can run two different ports at different refresh rates. You'll get similar impact from any capture card in a cloned display setup though.

It should have minimal impact in a cloned setup though, generally not even noticable unless you're actually tracking the FPS on average

I bought the hd60x to stream my ps5. I’m having Audio issues. The capture card will pick up audio for a short period of time then cut out. I’ve reinstalled the audio driver and it works for about 5-10 seconds then cuts out again. Any idea?

Hi there, I am experiencing some lag on my capture card (4K 60 pro mk2) at times. I've noticed on my streams that it gets laggy sometimes, what could be the reason?

Hi! I'm having difficulty with my HD60 S+ capture card. I'm trying to connect it to my Switch with my PC, which I did last year with no issues, but recently I moved my dock to my tv (without the capture card) and now I'm trying to set it back up, but there is SO much video and audio lag on 4k Capture Utility.
Dock has HDMI Out connected to Capture Card HDMI In. Capture Card has USB connected to PC's usb, I've tried all USB ports. No dice. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong here. I've fiddled with the settings in 4k Capture Utility. I've swapped out HDMI cables. I've uninstalled 4k Capture Utility and reinstalled. I've rebooted my switch. I've done pretty much everything I can think of. halp

Having a fair bit of trouble with my capture card. Shows a black screen on both softwares (the capture utility changes to the black screen when the switch is turned on so it detects something).
Had previously been working a couple months back (albeit using Game Capture HD but that similarly has stopped working).
The pass through still works.
Tried various fixes, restarting pc, disabling/reenabling device, uninstalling, reinstalling and downgrading drivers, moving card to different slot of board, changing hdmi cable, running admin mode and/or compatibility mode, reinstalling each of the capture softwares.
Card shows as functioning properly in device manager.
Simply out of ideas on what to try next.

The download page: https://www.elgato.com/uk/en/s/downloads does claim it's compatible with the HD60 Pro but I'll happily change back to Game Capture HD if necessary.

I have the HD60 X and love the quality I get from streaming but the audio so super quiet. I have to add a gain filter on Obs to hear the game but that also brings the static (hissing) sound. The way I have my system setup is: PlayStation 5 HDMI - HD60 X - monitor. PlayStation 5 settings are for controller headphones. I have the chat link pro from the HD60 X to my controller and headsets. Everything gets picked up but Obs is quite till I add a gain filter. Why do I have to add the filter? Is there something I’m missing?

On your computer open the 4K capture app and make sure your sound is set to HDMI or Analog depending on how you want the sound to travel. Analog for using the chat link and HDMI just for game sound.

Hey, I just picked up the HD60X and i'm having some audio issues trying to get a multi PC setup going for streaming. I got the video going without delay from gaming PC to streaming but after fighting with it for an hour to get rid of the audio delay I'm now having the problem of how to tackle microphone input. I want to use discord on my gaming PC as well as hear all desktop audio through my mic that is connected to it, but right now all of my audio is going into the streaming PC and I can't hear anything through my gaming PC. Are there any solutions to this that don't require me to purchase more physical audio equipment? I only have one audio jack and one ground loop isolator

on your streaming pc sound settings, make sure the capture card is setup as this. If you're using OBS, make sure to monitor and output if you want to hear it. and make sure your monitoring device is headphones. Highly suggested for livestreaming, and recording.

It allows you to capture video from things like cameras, video game consoles or even other computers, into a computer so you can record, stream, edit, etc.

The capture card does not include a video encoder, so there's still a performance hit to the PC doing the streaming as it still has to encode video for the stream (though these days this is usually done with dedicated hardware on your GPU if you're setup for streaming, reduicing the impact). For Single PC setups, they're not overly useful (though there are some niche use cases) - they're best used to bring in video from other sources.

By default Windows only sends audio to one output at a time, which is probably what's tripping you up. You need to set the source PC to use the HDMI output for audio if you want to capture the audio through the capture card on the streaming PC. If you also want to listen to the sound on the source PC and not just the streaming PC, you would need additional software like Voicemeeter Banana or something, to create a virtual splitter so you can send the sound to two outputs at once, as that's not something built into Windows.

There are - do you need encoding for streaming or recording though? There's a number of options out there and they vary a lot by what you need them to do.

Typically for PC streaming and recording these days folks use GPU based hardware encoders like NVidia's NVENC, AMD's AMF, and Intel's QSV. These are already available on most computers, though software support for them varies. They don't use the main part of the GPU, and are just separate hardware/circuitry on the same card or die, so performance hit is minimal if there's any at all (especially compared to software encoding like x264). They also let you use different software packages on your system for more flexible setups. Currently NVidia's NVENC is probably the most popular as it offers the best low bitrate h.264 encoding which is used with Twitch, and works with software like Elgato's 4K Capture Utility. When that's not enough people will often setup a second PC to do the encoding and use a capture card to get the video from one PC to another - game on a gaming pc, stream on a streaming PC that has a capture card.

There's also a few media accelerators, dedicated encoder cards (usually used for datacenters and quite expensive), as well as purpose made devices, and capture cards that record straight to SD card (like the 4K60S+) if you don't need to stream and are okay with recoding only to an SD card with h.264. When you start looking for specific hardware a lot of it depends on what you need to DO with the hardware.

Maybe my streaming options are not good and therefore It takes too much of my resources. But even with the NVENC encoder some "fast" games like Rocket League, Apex Legends... Honestly the usual way to handle that would be a dual PC setup. If you still want things like OBS overlays and the like, run a second PC with a capture card in it to get the video from the first one. That's the usual method for offloading the encoding in a PC streaming setup. Since you have NVENC you already have a on board hardware encoder so adding an additional encoder to the same system won't really benefit you on a single PC - you might want to check your encoder settings though, for example if you're using OBS have someone in one of the OBS communities check it out to see if there's a bottleneck or issue somewhere that's causing your performance impact.

Yes I have a dual PC setup, my gaming PC only has one monitor while my stream PC has two. I'd like for my gameplay to be able to stream from the non-virtual monitor or at least find a way for OBS to pick up on it.

I can't say it works 100% but I've used it before to decent success. They also let you send the audio straight over the network with VBAN if you'd prefer to do it that way. If you've got an external mixer that works as well, but software splitters would be the cheaper option.

If you don't mind the delay from playing on captured video, then I'd suggest (assuming youre using OBS), you could use the projector mode. Right click the video source and choose a fullscreen or windowed projector. Otherwise the best option would be to connect the second monitor to the HDMI Out on the capture card to use it in passthrough (I've done this with the monitor connected to DisplayPort on my PC, and the HDMI port on passthrough and just switch inputs on the monitor when I need to go back and forth). This assumed you're cloning your display to the capture card from the gaming PC so the HDMI Out is free, becasuse it's not being used for passthrough on the gaming PC.

Would need to know the model number of the laptop - not all OEMs colour code their laptop ports, so can't say for certain based off a pic unless they're actually labeled. On the bottom of the laptop there should be a model tag, that will bring up the specs for it when you look online, that'll tell you what USB ports it has.

Most laptops in the last 10 years should have USB 3.0 or better - but still a good idea to confirm before spending money

I am trying to use project my iPad onto the 4k utility app, however I keep reaching a "no signal" . when i go and change the input on my monitor, it is connected and projecting what I am displaying. I did everything the FAQ on the website, and it did not work. I have cleared all files, uninstalled, reinstalled the 4k utility app. I have switched multiple HDMI 2.0 cords in variety of lengths (including Elgato one). I have had this issue for the past 1.5 years. the first .5 that i had it for it worked with the ipad. I tried checking to see if it is just an iOS issue by using a different product, but i still receive the same issue. I would really appreciate some help on this. I have also warrentied it out too just in case. I own the 4k60mk2

I’ve always used screenlink for my ios devices, but I have seen the apple offical adapter work with capture cards, or one that meets the same specs. Also depending on your capture card, make sure it’s compatible. Some ios devices have m1, etc… so make sure the card can capture it.

Hey I managed to get party chat in my headphones and for them to hear me. Unfortunately I needed another mic (razor mic) plugged into my laptop for stream to hear me.

The other thing I’m having an issue with is having sound alerts play into my headphones. If I have my laptop volume on loud it will echo and make an irritating sound if I wanted to hear it through my laptop on obs . Stream can hear sound alerts. But I cannot unless there is a double up with my game audio, party chat, myself and sound alerts being picked up through my communication mic

Same here! I recently purchased the HD60x So I have 2 laptops. To increase the FPS on my gaming laptop I record/stream on my second. (Or trying to) I can't seem to get the audio on my second pc without some sort of problem occurring. The x264 encoder? Yeah that'd be CPU. I would generally recommend the NVENC's h.264 on that one. But the better question here - how does the gameplay look in the preview? Is that smooth or also choppy?

The logs are in the help menu sorry. It starts a new one every time you open OBS - so you can either do a recording on a new session and then upload, or you can go into the folder from the help menu and find an old one
