#Implement Hatchie-Killer Flags with the 1.2 Broodwatcher Update

What it says on the tin.

It's already been seen that the servers have this configuration, though maybe empty, and this update more than any other update makes sense to actually implement it.

My original idea was to tie Broodwatcher Unlock to the lack of this tag... But that's pretty unlikely to go over well especially with clans die to the issues that can cause (even tho not killing rival hatchies reduced full-clan wipes and elongates life of PvP but oh well lol).

I think it should at least be detectable. If not tied mechanically, if no actual disadvantage is given to hatchie killers, it should be able to be seen by other players to know to avoid them.

A scent icon was my first thought but how often would that be used? And in flight, impossible. So maybe some aura affect, or... like how the isle has random biting brain disease for cannibals? Something visible, something noticeable to tell me who to target, but not necessarily something that actually puts you at a tangible disadvantage.

Anyway yeah, given BW is so hatchie oriented it would make a lot of sense to clamp this into the update, or maybe a patch update shortly after if time is not looking good.

By the time you "see the hatchie killer" it's already too late. 'hatchie killers' should Never be flagged in PvP since it's a NEON flag not allowing them to escape properly in pvp. Not to mention some people would actually go out of their way to hunt down hatchlings for the vanity purpose. Having a indicator that someone killed something is a massive bad idea on it's own turf..

I have not played unofficial so I do not know what the current tag looks like.

This suggestion very explicitly was against such "neon flags" and posed more muted and reasonable alternatives to that.

I think hatchie killers absolutely should be flagged in some sense on PvP servers, as that's the only type of server where hatchie killing is possible and where it has the highest impact on community health and gameplay.

*reworded this after re-reading what you said as i misinterpreted

@remote epoch if you have any alternative methods of implementing it than what I gave, I'd like to hear them. That's what this thread is for really, it doesn't need to be "no" based on however it is currently in unofficial.

The thing about an explicit tag or warning for "Hatchie Killer" is that its unnecesary at best, detrimental at worst. I play on Burning Sands, Offical PvP server. In the server we despise hatchie killers, every single mega clan will explicitly hunt down anyone who deliberately kills a hatchie. In saying that, we also cook our own children when upstatting and their stats aren't very good. Hatchie killing with clanmates is an entirely normal part of the gameplay loop.

Even though my own server is massively against hatchie killing, I still hide and play extremely defensive whenever I am a hatchie, even faced with loners while I'm a member of a mega clan.

Its part of the survival experience of the game. to perma mark people for 'killing a hatchie' would mark people who roasted their clanmates or bad spawn in's with consent, which would lead to so much miscommunication and unnecessary slaughter. It's not effective at all.

I understand why you suggested this, most servers aren't chill at all and cruel hatchie killing runs rampant, but this just punishes the player base as a whole, even the innocent.

Your issue is with the culture of the server, not the game itself.

Flagging ANYTHING is a huge PvP target in every circumstance not to mention how more toxic PvP will get with small clans claiming to be “defend hatchlings” yet you see one tagged with said ‘flag’. In every way this is and will always remain a bad idea since it’s a literal target in “come kill this person for playing the game!” Games such as The Isle avoid this for that reason or their community server has rules against it (juvie killing on certain zones).

Right around the FS release we had the red glowing eyes effect for hatchie killers
I think PVE uses that for the PVP mode toggle on a dragon now?
Anyways, I used to feed hatchies all the time as SS
The times I saw it most were on me, From hatchlings running up and biting me and the fresh spawns I was tending because they wanted to reroll skin or stats
Because a couple chomps from a dragon is faster than the bugs, And if you can get rid of competition at the same time its only a bonus because hatchlings might have died and then you got someone else flagged
All in all, Flag was great intentions, But could improperly flag someone because of murder babies and didn't exactly save any hatchies
