#Either bring back ETAs or stop spamming announcements, please!

This is a gripe I've had since it was announced that Jao would be doing away with ETAs. While I understand why you would want to do away with exact dates—larger game companies will gladly give a release date and then push it back if absolutely necessary. I'm not saying to impose a crunch, but I am saying that, unless we get roles so that we can opt out of getting spammed by inconsequential announcements, there should not be an announcement every couple of days about minor changes and/or features.

I know for a fact that I am not the only person who feels this way, and I am aware that this may seem short-sighted, but from a customer standpoint, I'm interested in the development of the game, but far less interested in having my notifications spammed repeatedly by tiny changes for things that could simply be explained in a monthly update post. There is, unfortunately, a very fine line being crossed between being forthcoming and irritating—and I don't want to mute or leave this server because I am interested in seeing this game improve.

As it stands, the problems that the game had before stemmed from a lack of foresight in terms of allocation of funds and time. You guys spent a lot of money on a comic that I'm not sure anyone reads and merch that should have waited until the game was further into production. And, of course, you only have one programmer, which makes things... difficult... for cleanup and pushing out updates in a timely manner for a game that has a dwindling player base because of a lack of anything to do. Instead of bringing on more staff to make production go more smoothly, you guys have decided to dig your heels in and pull when given any kind of feedback surrounding just about everything I've stated in this post.

I really wish that you guys would listen to your players—because we all are the reason that this game has made it as far as it has.

By the by, I do apologize if this comes across as short or terse. I really don't like to speak so bluntly all the time, but I feel that it's the only way that I will be seen and heard.

i feel like the notifications arnt that bad as of how much they post, BUT they should add roles for development or CC

my takes:

  1. Need roles for different kinds of development, not reduced pings
  2. If they stop providing any ETAs, they need to focus on transparency (dev blogs, mainly, packed with everything that happened between last month and that month), and continue with ocassional tweets/teasers of future mechanics in action, not only written about

I don't want them to post development updates less. The frequent updates are really, really nice! I like the extra communication. But, does it need to @.everyone every time? The pings for CC videos are also quite annoying (sorry CCs, I'm sure the videos are interesting but I don't watch gameplay on YouTube). This server could REALLY use a major update, minor update, and content creator video update ping so that people can opt into what they want to see

☝️ exactly. The update posts are nice, but the pings for anything but major updates are unnecessary. People will notice there's a new update when they check the server and see the channel name turn white anyway

I like the frequent communication, we asked that. Much better than silence

I'd rather suggest ping roles, at least for things like content creator videos, live streams and such

I'd like to revive this post because it keeps. Happening. ALL THE TIME.
I just got pinged for some day of dragons themed quiz or maze or something, and for some odd reason they keep using @-everyone pings. It's straight up obnoxious and we desperately need ping roles.
Also, they use @-everyone for the tiniest little patches or updates to stuff like testing servers. They use it for pretty much anything that they post in #announcements and at this rate I might mute the server.

Yeah. I would VERY MUCH appreciate having ping roles so that we can choose what we want to be pinged with. Not everything needs to be an @-everyone ping because it's absolutely obnoxious. Every time I check a ping, I expect that it'll be something important, like possible delays or substantial updates, but recently it's... quizzes? Sudoku? Mazes? I don't care about that stuff.

As a mod for a youtubers discord I can understand why they don't want to create ping roles, we literally removed them on said discord. The answer is quite simple: at least half of the folks won't bother to get them and you can easily mute pings. Like it had literally negative impact. I do understand though that the pings there are a lot lately and that they maybe should not ping everyone announcement but first off we do have a ETA right now and it's close and so there are a lot kore pings. You need to understand the other side too. He wants to ensure people are this time happy with the patch and wants to ensure to get the playerbase which stopped playing back. Which is helping everyone.
So yeah ping roles aren't a simple and easy step to just do.
And like somebody else said already people asked for more communication.

We asked for more communication but getting pings for games when for the most part people don’t care!! We want communication for game development and for actually relevant things for the game, it’s only more recently frustrated is because it’s almost everyday and/or a few times a day. I feel like an everyone ping could be good for important or big development updates but pinging everyone for a game when there could easily be a role for it? Communication vs an overload of pings is very very different

You think most people don't care over those games, but you actually don't know and just assume it because you don't care about them. And one ping per day isn't an overload. You can mute pings too, easy. But you can't state something as fact only because you and a handful of people don't like them and finding one ping per day too much, which isn't a lot at all. Why make a role because you are too lazy to mute a discord or to ignore a ping? Why change a running system because you are unwilling to mute pings...
Also so rude of you to ping me for your reply. (It's a joke, I don't care.)

I think you can safely mute #announcements if you dont want to know about the contests. They update game related stuff in #development-news

I feel like a really good thing to do is put the ABSOLUTE LATEST DAY/TIME in announcements. This deadline should be hard locked and not going over that day/time.
If you finish earlier? Great! Send the update earlier and bring out an announcement. That way you can build up confidence with your playerbase and get them excited. Building up hype and then delaying the time puts a massive amount of distrust (even if it is just by a few hours) because it shows that you made a commitment to something, and didnt deliver on time.

Put it this way.... say you have a job and say you are gonna show up at 9am. If you show up at 10am, it isn't gonna make the boss happy. If you show up at 8:30am? Then your boss will be happy.
It is essentially the same with updates. You need to please your bosses
