I feel like such a basic game mechanic should already be installed where if you are in water and start to run out of stamina you will start to losoe health. Or a better (but more complex) way of doing it is to make it so once u run out of stam you cannot keep yourself above water and once your head is submerged you start to loose air and once that's gone you start to loose health

yes!!
I believe Jao has stated on a Dev stream that drowning isn't added because it is often abused in pvp clan based games if I recall. For example, dragons in this game could drop hatchlings off in the middle of the lake, where they would be unable to swim back to shore, forcing players to drown.
I don't mind either way, just adding what I think was the reasoning if my memory is holding up as to why there is none currently
you realize that when they dropped people in the lake then they would starve or thirst to death before reaching shore.... drowing would save people time
i feel like a drowning would just be too much for an already punishing mechanic for most dragons.
its bad enough you get stam exhaustion and have to sleep it off afterward, adding drowning would be too much. After adding aquatic dragons and water AI, its going to get A LOT more dangerous being in the water.
saving time by drowning because you got dropped off at lake/island isn't really a good enough reason to add this. most hatchlings starve/dehydrate pretty fast.
Alternative: add a respawn command
Sooo wish we had one of those
I do realize that they would starve or dehydrate first. The entirety of my message was emphasizing that I was trying to recall Jao's reasoning, and I did say that I didn't mind either way. I do not see how me realizing something would affect someone else entirely's reasoning. ^^i
That could be abused hard unless they add a timer to prevent that.
I feel like if they add a drowning mechanic I hope they would add a mechanic that when a dragon is able to fly, they can take off from water but there should be a stam penalty to do so, so you have at least a window of survival
I think that would be a good idea, and ASD's should be able to swim faster and be able to hold their breath for a long time.
Bio can start hovering from the water. IMO it makes sense that dragons that need speed cant take off from the water. Even water birds irl have to paddle super fast before they can take off. I WOULD like to see some semiaquatic winged dragons with this feature, but all-in-all water takeoffs should be race specific.
@sour crown 100%, ASD is a swamp dog so it should definately have better speed and breath timer than the full land/air dragons. And better manuverability.
This!!
I mean imo saying that drowning would make being in water more punishing, like isn’t that the point though? A dragon like the singe crest would definitely be able to take off from the water because they are more specialized in water. Now for hatchies being dropped in water, maybe make it so hatchies are maybe buoyant enough that they’ll stay afloat or something so they won’t drown. This will make it so water is punishing but won’t be unfair for hatchies
It would be cool is there was a dragon that's bile is getting rid of oxygen, maybe for the leviathan to have a fun and unique bile attack.
there is no way to escape getting out of the center of the lake, you just sit there for over five minutes while waiting to die. Also, drowning is a basic game mechanic and real life thing that almost every single game has? So I'm not sure how thats just not a good enough reason since it appears to be a very easy thing to add in
if they made swim speed better it wouldn't be an issue, swimming is awfully slow even for the acid spitter. or lower the stam drain for swimming if they add in drowning.
I think the swimming and breath will be improved once a certain dragon is added (Cough cough water lung dragon from the loading screens cough cough)
I would hope the water mechanics get implemented and revisited with the healer dragon since ya know it's dependent on the water for it's survival. Imagine playing the healer dragon when it's released and it has the swim speed and dive mechanics of the ASD when catching fish
Good point, a drowning mechanic would make the pain end faster lol
I agree, you should have a change to live when being dumped into the water. It would probably have to take more stamina for a realistic trade off but still you shouldn't have to just waddle and doggy paddle until death by starvation/thirst
If drowning is possible I would like to be able to fly / sprint out of water. If you accidentally land in the big lake RIP
