#What subjects should i take for IB and whether should i even take it or not

So yeah i will finish my igcses in MJ26 and i have taken five subjects- ext math fle and all three sciences (ik this is like very less for igcses but my school offers maximum 7 subjects and i had thought why should i burden myself because i was planning to go to med here in india. I know my logic doesn’t make sense and yeah i regret those decisions) so sorry for the rant. The subjects i have thought about are English SL, Hindi or french or Spanish ab initio, Math AA HL, Chem HL and Bio HL, Psychology SL. I plan to do medicine in Europe.

I know Math AA HL is like murdering myself because i dropped add math. But the School IB head told me to try Math AA HL and i could then like take SL if its too much and take Psychology HL instead. Thats what i did in igcses so far like i dropped addmath and continued on with extended. so far i have been getting good grades in extended math (without trying) so i feel like I could do it if i set up a good study schedule then i could manage it. I have also heard many people who took extended math in igcse took AA HL and they are managing well.

The main thing i feel like is deciding between which language B option. Like i can take Hindi, or french or spanish ab initio. I have studied hindi till 7th grade (as i was in like an indian ICSE board) and then german in grade 8 (i know i had to like learn it from scratch whereas others learned it from 6th or smth and i kind of managed it in the summer holidays) and a bit in grade igcse year 1 but then yeah i dropped it. I am not confident in hindi it was also the lowest subject i scored in seventh grade. But would universities prefer an ab initio subject over a language b one?

Like if im planning abroad, isn’t studying a foreign language better in the long term.

(Put this here because the post was too long) I know its very weird to take math aa hl and chem hl when im not taking physics hl and taking a biology hl instead. Firstly because im not interested in a math heavy degree like engineering. And for medicine i have more guidance and interest in that subject. Another good option for me would be to take cbse board but im just too used to the calculator. And i would have to take a lot of exams if i plan to move abroad after bachelors. (This might be me overthinking)

So coming back to the main problem. I could also do a-levels because it gives more time for me and i can take all three sciences as well (so im also eligible for medicine in India). But there aren’t like good a level schools near me. And I don’t want to do a levels online or something. IB has like tok, cas and ee whereas a levels we will have to do it on our own. I am a kind of person who wouldn’t do things unless its forced on me. (I mean what i have heard from people here is that the tok and stuff are forced on them) i feel like in a-levels i would be like swimming in a sea of information and stuff (like for extracurricular activities) and me being me would reach nowhere.

Also another question. Is taking 3HLs maximum for ib.

I hope i am specific enough as mentioned in the guidelines

Your ib subjects are good you have the main ones for med and you don't have to worry about which language is preferred ( just do one you like the ab initio languages are generally easier i'd recommend taking spanish as its the easiest) , the only time you should be worrying about language is if you decided to go to a foreign country and they require a specific language / teach in a specific language.

You can take AA HL if you did extended math in igcse so don't worry too much about that though you don't need AA HL Math for med but if you are interested in it go for it. IB In general is a lot of work way more than igcse if you like work load and think you can manage it then go for the IB , i'd personally suggest not taking cbse as it greatly limits your chances of being accepted abroad especially to places like Europe.

Just going to put this out there if you are interested in a level and are considering going to an online school the main benefits of a level is that if you know what you want to be you can take any subject you want and there is less of a workload compared to the IB and cbse. This is only If your are reconsider taking the IB and are open to going to an online a level school i'd recommend "Wosely hall oxford".

hope that helped

Thank you very much. I am also not planning to take cbse because im mainly planning abroad. I am already in an online school for igcses but i honestly don’t want to continue there. Also for the field im interested aa hl isn’t required at all but i have thought to take it because what if i want to like go in like biomedical engineering or something later on. But i would need physics for that and i guess thats the worst thing about ib we cannot take all three sciences. And i guess thats the main reason people choose a levels.

Ib has like a lot of workload and i have heard that its preferred over a levels due to its interdisciplinary subjects. And i am also confident that the workload wont be too much for me. So thats why im planning ib.
