okay so first of all idk where ure from but:
- US medical school:
- 4 years of undergrad -> can be any major as long as you meet the prerequisites for med school -> getting into med school can be quite tough because you would need to take the MCAT + lots of clinical experience or volunteering.
- 4 years of grad school -> this is if you want to obtain an MD or DO license
- match into residency program -> this takes a LONG time like 3-7 years
- take USMLE for your final certification
so ultimately: you come out in your 30s when you're done with training. most likely in quite a bit of debt, but some say it's worth it if you like your job enough and tbh if you're lucky to get a good job
- UK medical school:
- a little and literally only SLIGHTLY lighter!
- 4-6 years of UK medical school to obtain MBBS/MBChB degree
- 2 years of foundational training to gain experience in different specialties
- you can then choose between general training and specialty training
then you come out of med school: maybe a few years earlier than US med school
*note: UK admissions are typically a bit easier than US admissions
"UK students take out far less debt, US doctors make far more money, UK has fewer years of schooling but more years of training, training is tough in both but anecdotally it seems more taxing in the US" -from reddit
