#Advice needed on how to start animating/coding
939 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
@crude folio
what are you interested in, animating or coding
Both
animating what exactly
And honestly idk what kind of job I want, I've also been thinking of accountant but again idkk
I'm interested in like cinematic animation yk
Or for like games
ever considered trying to make a game on roblox?
Games such as fortnite perhaps. The live event was so cool it inspired me-
Nopee, I'm not creative enough:/
you dont know that yet because you havent tried your hands on anything
i suggest trying roblox development out
i have come from roblox development and it has taught me quite a lot
its the first thing i did, and i started at around 12
Hmm okk!
im not saying stick to roblox forever but it teaches you a lot
you can check documentation on their api here https://create.roblox.com/docs
Thank you!

download roblox itself and roblox studio should download on its own
How about cources for coding beginners?
open roblox studio and start navigating
Are those any good
its an entire game engine remember so theres an umlimited number of things you can do
Start building your own Roblox games! With over a decade of experience as a Roblox developer I will teach you everything you need to start your journey from player to creator.
From in-depth tutorials on scripting techniques to comprehensive guides on game development, AlvinBlox is your go-to source for all things Roblox Studio.
hes taught me the extreme basics of the luau language
also remember that you arent limited to roblox development
the roblox developer community is toxic to say the least so if you ever feel like doing something else apart from roblox development, go for it
there are welcoming people though so dont consider everyone toxic
ok im trying to create this milk weight sensor that sends a notification to your phone when the milk is nearly finished. How do you think I should approach the ask of creating an app to send notifications thru?
hmm
its for science fair lol
okay it should be simple enough
I only have a video to follow on creating the weight sensor
you shouldnt measure the weight, i think it may be best to measure the depth
for depth you can use like an ultrasound sensor or infrared sensor
you can stick to that for now
I have an arduino kit so that may have ultrasound senser
for interpreting the analog signals from these sensors, you can use a raspberry pi or an arduino but preferrably one with a wifi card
you can send the data through wifi in like maybe 5 second intervals
for getting a notification on your phone though.. that might be tricky
@still verge
any idea?
you use flutter dont you 💀
nah the phone
the app needs to recieve data from the lan
oh I als have a raspberry thingy
great
so youre all set for sending the data
Flutter is really convulated I wouldn't recommend it as a first language, react native is def better for cross platform for beginners
but you need to work out receiving the data
or
android studio
kotlin
yeaaa

That limits u to android only tho
oo im an android user-
its a science project lol
OR
who knows maybe ill go global with this :0
theres some services online that let you create simple apps
Look into react native then
@prisma harness do you have a time limit? like when are you meant to show this project
uhm, in like 3 weeks 😭
i kinda procastinated....
zz
he will have to learn html then css then javascript then react then react native
then ig ur gonna have to sue those services
lmfao 😭
use
ohh
Not really I skipped directly to native bur I did have prior knowledge of html from webscraponf and css is just styling
So I guess so
exactly what I wanna learn, I wanna learn all of these. Btw she*
Is only html tags
my bad
do after ur science project at your pace then
dw about it
For now since u have a time limit use those services that Mario mentioned
ok then you can try to do what asterisk did but i wouldnt suggest it because only 3 weeks
yuppp, Im gonna do that like a side hobby
Yeah since you have no prior coding experience learning the language is gonna take much longer
I don't recommend it either after knowing the time limit
heh 😅
hmm
oooo
you can try these platforms
and if i run into any problems i have my dad for like adivce (IT person)
its just how I start
yeah
could you please pin all the messages regarding any services I could use for easier access?
you should search online for how to make an app without needing coding knowledge
i cant pin
wait mb I thought u were like a staff member
its fineee
good idea lmfao
this looks nice
boeing uses this 💀 @still verge
ooh omg thank you so much!!

probably why their planes are crashing fr
also thanks

😭💀
damn broo
u really exposed them-
pin the links sent here
also a difficult challenge for u
get a bigger phone

ok
To learn how to code, just create simple projects and Google what you don't know
Slowly create bigger projects as your experience rises
For animation, you can Incorporate it by creating sprites and models for any game you have in mind
it looks like she is interested in game development
from what im seeing at least
roblox is good to start
It uses its own type of lua right?
yes luau
It's quite restrictive and won't really give an opportunity to learn programming fundamentals
Using stuff like pygame or even scratch for the beginning is much better
nah its not restrictive at all trust
Since they teach the absolute fundamentals
its not like she is learning classes and stuff like that from the beginning though
and she wants to learn cinematic animations too, and roblox is very good for that
My younger sister script's on roblox, and with the syntax I've seen and the approach it takes
It doesn't seem right to be the first thing you learn
It's better if she learns those concepts soon though, since they are integral for game development
yeah but for what she wants to learn its good, cinematic animations and programming or scripting
the channel i linked will teach her about the fundamentals
classes in lua are complex, they use metatables so its a bit confusing
but i told her to just start with roblox development and see where it takes her
also not to stick to roblox development because you wont get anywhere with it
My younger sister uses the same channel as well haha, though I had to teach her all the basics programming concepts since it wasn't very intuitive
yes she can learn other programming languages but it doesn't help in what she wants to do, cinematic animations cant be done in pygame lol
you cant do cinematic animations with sprites
It would be best if she learnt python or java and animated on something like blender
roblox uses blender for animating mainly but it gives an easy interface for all that exporting and stuff
Slowly scaled up from there and move to unity or unreal when she's ready
Even godot is good
2d animation is still animation though
It still relays important skills
yes thats what i mean, she should start with roblox studio
its a basic game engine
and scale to other game engines
Roblox development is only good as a hobby later on to be honest
If they want to learn how to code
They should learn what's mainly used to code
And the same idea with animation
its just a good starting point
Seems as tho your younger sister is also interested in similar stuff? Has she started any sort of coding
Yea that my plan, I have scince fair projects I want to elaborate and make better and like innovative yk
It's all innovative, but includes coding and making things irl
yt
Ah that's always the way to go 😌
or ask reddit
theres dedicated subreddits to it
pick python as a foundational language and build on it
@boreal bronze what langauge developed python
better qn is what developed assembly
what developed C
what developed assembly
what developed binary
its just on and off
what developed on and off
started with electric signals
Multi-Variable Calculus
ah
its more fun than single var when u understand it
are u not in uni yet
L imagine not going to uni yet
in 1 year ill be 2 years infront
I'd assume a bunch of binary statements? Why ask though?
I suppose it can be
Mainly some python and using rs so luau
There have provably been many people who created what you want to create and have published it
Oh damn...well been go my dreams- lmfaoo
I'm teaching her along with forums and YouTube
No, take what they created and make your own variation
That's innovation
Yuppp
Ohh niceee, I think after all this I may look for online cources hes so I can gain the knowledge needed
Html etc
If you want to learn python, learn the basic syntax then follow a guided tutorial of a project that incorporates everything you've learnt
After that, it's all about trial and error
You really shouldn't, all the information you need is free and public
Only do so for advanced topics
Thanks:D
Gave +1 Rep to @boreal bronze (61)
if you go with tyu’s advice you can use https://w3schools.com to learn python
OMG YES
This on thread had everything I need now yayya
Ilk come back here tmr and check out these stuff
i scrolled and saw things related to game development
if you actually want good ones (that is not roblox ykwim)
there is 3 main ones (ranked by difficulty to learn)
- godot (its own lang)
- unity (c#)
- unreal (c++)
start with roblox and python or whatever first
but after a while, consider those
agree
unity is the best probably
Ahh alrr
Thanks, I'll look into those
Gave +1 Rep to @bold token (1292)
I was told to start learning c# so that's good :)
learn pyfon first
c# 🤢
I wanted to but this woman at a carrerr expo said with the way ai is moving, python won't be needed or something
she suggested c#
so erm, idk now :/
is it that bad 😭
If I do happen to have that equipment, im not sure how to do the coding since im following a video step by step. Would it be much different?
huh
basically, this woman said with the way ai is coming along, python won't be needed
she said i should learn c#
nvm @boreal bronze knows more abt this
This is why following YouTube coding tutorials suck
Ur limited to wtv the guys doing u aren't learning nor you are exploring
In what way python won't be needed is that all what the woman said
ig so?
i can't rlly remember
eh i wanna do python anyways
exactlyy, but I still don't ahve the knowledge to do it myself-
ig cause ai bots use more java?
idk broo
like making notes on your learnings?
Erm yeah no
oop
No im saying use their official documents
Not youtube videos
To learn
Don't "write" down stuff this is different
If you wanna retsin info do projects with the stuff u learnt
OH YEA I HAVE DOWNLOAD PDF FOR ARDUINO, its like a list of projects u can make
and how to make them
small prokects
Start off with that then
i did last year!
Tho iirc arduino uses their own c++ version
but also, ig i don't need to use python or anything rn
I have the super starter kit
idk what that uses
it was c+ i think
or smth like that
alr
its the opposite that woman is restarted
dont listen to random ass career counseling people they dont know shit
lmfaooo
shes definitely restarted
ironic because most of ai is done in python rn
not really c#
they're both not too hard
but just conflicting with each other a bit
At this stage, what language you start with won't affect your performance since you arnt building anything with large complexity and space
C# is a good language to begin with and great for game development since its used in unity game engine
Most of the programming concepts you'll learn from c# are the same in python making it easier to learn one after the other
Just avoid low level language like C and cpp since they're a bit too complex
Elly
Oh wow
I'm being misleaded
Okkk
I'll have to look into these after completing my science fair project
yeah actually it's basically the only thing python is good for in the industry lol
data sci/AI
hfhf
I'd advice you don't for the first 4 months of programming, it's really demotivating especially for game dev
It's much more complex, just focus on learning the fundamentals for now
And maybe some algorithms and data structures after
@boreal bronze what programming language should i do if im tryna do Electrical engineering
(im meant to do C)
Not sure but I'd assume low level languages like c/cpp
i need to do MVC on C 😭
They're both very fast and efficient which is important for such systems
MVC is multi var calculus
What is MVC?
Though shouldn't you use matlab?
idk man ask manchester not me
ur asking me qns that im asking u when u should be asking my fuck ass universiyt
All that's needed is to get the job done, if you can get it done with something else then it should be alright
Unless you have written exams
no its online
for coding
lemme check
hell if i know what any of this means
but my friend whos at manny said he had to learn how to do math on coding thingies
i just realized i have free will to watch ninjago on netflix
smth @silk tartan doesnt
Are you sure MVC stands for multi-variable calculus
idk thats what brodie told me
I know it's ee but it just seems a bit odd when you have a bunch of libraries to do the job🥲
idk maybe brodie lied
😔
This is your first year aswell so it would be weird to do MVC in C
I used to watch it as a kid, have fun
ninjago matters more rn
only as a kid?
i watched that shit after my AS finals
They kept drawing the show out for too long
ngl shit was trash after the nadhakhan season
every season after the nadhakhan season was straight hot trash
esp coz they changed the animation style
to a much more homosexual style
they made cole look weird
Not sure when that was. I stopped when they took a small break from airing it on TV
Eighth season according to google
haskell
i think
fortran
lol
haskell, fortran and python
and assembly
learn binary while ur at it
C is also nice
I don't think any electrical or computer engineer uses haskell fortran or binary
C and cpp out perform all those unless you're working on ancient technology
didnt see electrical
Oh haha
what the fuck
haskell fortran sounds like a harry potter character
bro
just lemme be man ill ask gpt 😭
Don't think about it much, just learn C and focus on ee principles
man we should put u for uni slides
Most of the technology that works in ee is built with C
@south crow can we put tyu for uni presentation
hes much nicer than me
much smarter in tech field too
and has more uni experience
um
Whats a uni slide🥲
@valid forge
Nono
can we put tyu
he knows computer sicence
he can answer all the CS qns that we left behind
I'm not good with uni stuff
realistically nothing is stopping u from entering yale
Glad to be part of yale 🥳
?
tyu is in yale
I'm an international student so ivy's are basically impossible
tlel him to do the uni hting
😒
Stop being grumpy all the time uncle
i sound my age bruh
I'm not doing the uni thing
I don't know any uni thing
😒
I don't even know what UCs are 🥲
Oh that
Probably not
East Europe sounds better to me
Plus just getting the credentials to travel to another continent is a huge hassle
bro
berkley isnt even hard to get in fr
@south crow got in because she mentioned her extremely trash english skills and they felt bad for her
him*

🖕 tangina mo
9% acceptance rate for international students
bro thinks idk what this means
9/100 ul be part of the 9
dw
i knew you knew
🔥
bro just do hella community service
like 200-300 hours
i did 600 hrs tryna fix chuu's kind of ppl who suck at english

community service is for like us thing yeah
man i should've actually applied to the US i had like 500-600 hrs of comm service ☠️
I don't speak the language of the country I live in, most of my ecs and school work is done by me
Huge disadvantage
bro lives in mandarin
wait
@south crow mandarin isnt a country are you high???
???
aight tlll me this on the day of the uni slides pls
i cannot wait for the uni talk
wdym
I'd be competing with people who have committed their lives to uc berkley
i'll be torturing viper to speak all the way thru
what is bro saying
eh who cares i competed w ppl commiting their lives to NUS
yawn
ok but did u get accepted to nus
ill be saying wrong stuff anyway
You arnt at NUS though
didnt apply
😭 ???
they got in 😭
to man?
but hey they needed a gap year for it
yea
na they never made it that far
thats the bad part abt sg
Wait what
somehow got into UCL but not manny
Mandarin?
if u dont want a gap year for nus u had to give as lvls + 3APs + sat
i gave up on nus cuz of how stupid it is
amazing
yes pls do the guy who made it into NUS has only 1 physics module in his firs tyear of his physics degree
lemme show u his schedule
my ass is nto taking a gap year bro
and i dont have olympiad ecs
he didnt either
yes but
im so confused

go to leeds becket university
thats crazy
no @still verge dw youll find chuu there

ok anyway im done roasting chuu for the hour
🖕
unc viper 🥰🥰
@prisma harness
, or any big projs in general
wtf ew
Okk
So wait after finishing my science fair. Are u suggesting I just make other projects? I mean I did wanna make my last year science fair project a proper item
no, just the fact that if you are new to coding, it's really hard just to "hop on c++ and unreal engine and make a game"
you probably won't get far and prob give up
just learn fundamentals of coding first with smaller projects
what languages do you know?
i see youre in some python discord servers
and jetbrains community server
i should probably leave those python servers
i've moved on 😔
why are you quizzing me 💀
python, java, c#, cpp (a bit), js (react)
why not
and ur in IG?
I guess so?
when did you start learning
wait
but came back to actually learn stuff in year 9
you started in grade 5
damn.
year 5 British curriculum = grade 4 American I think
I have 5000 hours in val and minecraft combined
technically i also started learning grade 5 except i got skipped 2 grades to grade 8
and I regret playing so much
youre playing too much because you arent focusing on any projects
,calc 5+2
Result:
7
you should make something
no like
I burnout a lot
im in caie sir
idc go make a project
I skipped 1
how do you skip 2
then why do you say grade
what should i say
these are the repos I contributed to (dog pfp is myself)
only 2-3 are somewhat completed
the rest is half done and burnt out
thats nice
what are most of the repos about?
year
are they supposed to be libraries?
nah thats some british shit 😭
most are implementation
well u just said ur in British curr
im doing caie in india
no one here says year
i got lucky
the school said if i showed a decent improvement after i skipped, they would keep me in that grade otherwise they would put me in grade 5
also i was in africa at the time, if my parents came with that proposition to an indian school they would immediately reject
13
a pup
what lang do u know
lua?
i should learn java
ruby?
yes i know sometimes i learn unknown languages
why
ruby is popular
for what
its still used today for web applications
ruby on rails 😭
i dont want to learn languages that everyone else knows 💀
Lua for roblox
no like
but
i have no idea where else lua is used its literally unknown
but its underrated
its a sick language
dont tell me you use vim
only vim and roblox fr ;-;
trying to learn nvim
what ide do you use

it tells a lot about a developer
pycharm, intellij, vscode, learning nvim
what do you use vscode for
I'm a jetbrains fan 🥰
same
cpp c# js
i been on webstorm for 8 hours ong
aren't they paid 😭
and I don't want to grab them
you have like 2 more years
get it for free
youre on github
sign up for github student
oh
do I need anything
you get every ide free
ID?
either a school id, report card or stuff like that
and a picture of yourself
but be cautious because i heard they dont accept students that easily anymore
I'm sure Microsoft would love more data about me
the time i applied, i got accepted in a few hours
😭
good for you ig 👍
its fine you get like 2 years
go apply
youre using pycharm community
🤢
disgust
i mean idk what pycharm community offers exactly but i remember that after using pycharm professional, it was much better
wait
waiut
i didnt even know it had an http client
wtf
something ain't adding up 😭
this looks good tho
why are the first 5 js 😭
i think people use flask + react
django + react
or something
eh
btw i dont think the ai is even free
i personally just use github copilot
since you get it with your github student pack
icic
yeah but i prefer github copilot anyway
👍
yesh
whats the problem
For DX, yes, but after what they did to their license... 😔
what did they do now
They added a price per install recently iirc
Unity is good for beginner game dev don't skip
Pretty sure they only add price per install after reaching a certain revenue threshold
Though if you do plan on developing a game you'll have to buy a subscription from either engine anyways
Yeahh $1M
Unity's pretty good for learning game dev, but I'd much rather recommend Godot, or if you're experienced enough, Unreal
Cpp and godot are a bit tricky to learn
On the other hand c# is quite intuitive and easy to understand
Truee
c# is not easy but it is definitely easier than cpp
actually I thinkI figured it out, pretty sure it was a wire proble
problem*
help pls?
what do you need help with?
OH YAYA
UR HERE
my science fair project
the weight sensor
the calibration value isn't being set properly
its either something way wrong or like nan
Load cell with Hx711
havnt dabbled much in arduinos so cant rlly help
@spring lagoon dont u do a lotta arduino stuff or is it someone else-
yea @civic merlin you could rly help
oh he has 2 accs?
the original question's answered
the one we're on is this #1260140518164398120 message
Oh he figured it out I think
In ig computer science
@prisma harness You did yes?
Though hx711 is crazy
she
Huh
No i thought I did
The calibration value just isn't being set right
Idk what to do anymore
It may be something with thr design
send arduino code
I'll help as soon as I can
Like take ss?
Copy paste here
Oh yea smarter
But there's like multiple codes, do u want me to send the vid I'm using?
thats the first one
then when im supposed to do something with this one so I don't have to re-valibrated it everytime
sure
You didn't happen to find anything wrong in the code?
Can you send me an image of the wire connections.
Zoomed in
And a general bird eye view
Arduino, component, whole tjing
Idk it may be cause of the plate onto where we keep the item we wanna weigh on??
Lmk if these ones aren't clear enough
Like for the wires, i could try taking extra zoomed in foe the wires
looks good to me (i have no idea what im looking at)
lmfaooo
omg I gotta buy a science fair board and write down everything and print it and im getting alte
like i need it done by wednesday next week
and its not even working
@civic merlin get to work
does it give any values
like what does it do
right now
rahh
im gonna try it right now
float known_mass = 0;
_resume = false;
while (_resume == false) {
LoadCell.update();
if (Serial.available() > 0) {
known_mass = Serial.parseFloat();
if (known_mass != 0) {
Serial.print("Known mass is: ");
Serial.println(known_mass);
_resume = true;
}
}
}
LoadCell.refreshDataSet(); //refresh the dataset to be sure that the known mass is measured correct
float newCalibrationValue = LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass); //get the new calibration value```
this part is whats probably causing it
okay how about you print the value of LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass) before and after refreshing
and send a screenshot of what it shows
wdym??
ok wait
float known_mass = 0;
_resume = false;
while (_resume == false) {
LoadCell.update();
if (Serial.available() > 0) {
known_mass = Serial.parseFloat();
if (known_mass != 0) {
Serial.print("Known mass is: ");
Serial.println(known_mass);
_resume = true;
}
}
}
Serial.println("Before refresh: ");
Serial.print(LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass);
LoadCell.refreshDataSet(); //refresh the dataset to be sure that the known mass is measured correct
float newCalibrationValue = LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass); //get the new calibration value
Serial.println("After refresh: ");
Serial.print(LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass);
just replace this part of your code with what i sent
should I copy paste this somweher
okk
and send me the output
wait dude
its already there
the exact same thing
wait nvm\
not the whole thing
also should I leave this in
yeah
mmmm
got ittt
i asked my dad
some of the things down ahve closing brakets
some fo the lines
hold on
theres so many errors
now its saying something to do with ;
oh yeah make sure ; is at the end of everything
here i edited it
dw i did that
now its saying this
ARGH
thats in the serial moniter
yuo got iyy
time to test
dammint dowsnt work
hmm it didnt print the thing
Serial.println("Before refresh: ");
Serial.print(LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass);
LoadCell.refreshDataSet(); //refresh the dataset to be sure that the known mass is measured correct
float newCalibrationValue = LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass); //get the new calibration value
Serial.println("After refresh: ");
Serial.print(LoadCell.getNewCalibration(known_mass);```
this
the "Before refresh:
and after refresh
ughhh
@civic merlin man
why did it bug at the start
youre early
Ju'umah prayer
no it isn't
Reps ain't workin
Idk that's what I wanna know
Are the pins properly connected
