if you slack of and dont study(cuz no ones gonna keep you in check) then you fail, thats all, assuming you have friends then you will get any less known knowledge from them if they study under a teacher. so benefit is much more than potential losses.

I've been self-studying since IG and I still am. Currently doing A2 this year. It will be helpful to create a schedule for all your subjects so that you know which pages/topics you're covering per day as well as when you're due to write tests. I literally have been doing as I suggested for all my subjects before the beginning of each academic year so that I can pace myself accordingly. You will "slack" and that's fine but that's why it's helpful to have a schedule because looking at the schedule reminds you how far behind you are on work and allows you to allocate free-time to catch up. Trust me, there have been times where I've fallen three weeks behind on work due to "slacking" but that's why having a schedule is useful so that you can make provisions for instances of slacking.

One thing I'd also recommend that I wish I had made provisions for is that it may also be useful to find a group of self-studying friends, studying the same subjects as you with whom you can study with at specific times every day. It helps keep you motivated and if you're someone who doesn't fair well in the absence of socialization then that will keep you sane.
