I'm terribly confused by the approach Cambridge University takes in the admission process of the engineering faculty. I've reviewed the website and looked at the 'Typical Offers' of all colleges. Most of them seem to be requiring AAA. However, what actually does typical offer mean? Like if someone achieves those grades will they be admitted, considering they aced the ENGAA? Or are those grades required just for cambridge to even consider your application? In short, has anyone, with just AAA* been admitted to cambridge university (engineering) or have all students studying there taken five, six and even seven A-levels, for example?

thats the minimum requirement, but it doesnt mean that you will automatically be accepted
also like there is no typical offer. ive seen a lot of ppl get in with various grades
some get in with 3, some get in with 5
personal statements also play a huge role in ur acceptance plus the entrance exam grades
For engineering?
do you have any idea if cambridge prefer quantity or overall quality?
Like is A(star)A(star)A(star), better than A(star)A(star)A(star)B B?
for any major
again, like there r ppl who got in with 3A*
but there's also ppl who got in with 2A* and 1B (talking in general btw not engineering)
check their minimum requirements
as long as u fulfill them
yeah minimum for engineering is A(star) A (star) A
yea so like
Maths + Physics
there r ppl who got in with a* A* A
but there r also ppl who got in with 5 A*
like top unis r unpredictable tbh all u can do is try ur best
but if u can handle 5 subs why not
Alr, so it also greatly depends on other non-grade factors e.g awards, habits, hobbies, extracurricular activities, etc
yea except uk unis dont rlly care about ecas
wdym by havits and hobbies
like some american uni's pay attention to winning sports stuff
idk if UK is the same
also like ecas help ur application yes but merely joining them doesnt help u. u gotta do smth significant with it
having a leadership role will help boost ur application or winning some tournaments
nahhh UK doesnt care
they prioritise academics
and for UK
they care more about supercurriculars
which r like stuff that show ur passion for the subject. eg. ur doing engineering? so choose eca related to engineering or do a passion project
read engineering books, listen to podcasts etc
Well I can handle 4 A-levels, but time will be very tight and idk if it's worth it? Or is it better to focus on just 3 A-levels and absolutely ace them (A*)
ah I see
also smth to consider about: r u applying for scholarships
Like i'd like to, but i'm not worrying too much about it
then it's def gonna be harder bc ur not just competiting for admission. ur also going to be competiting with thousands of super intelligent ppl just like u for scholarships. that means there r gonna be ppl with insane uni applications
ah ok

Here this is rlly useful. they have good recs for wider reading for every course
i'm also aiming for oxford so 💀

no worries. those r available on uni websites so 👍 just stalk them like i do 🤣
Another question @vagrant pendant , since you seem very aware of all this lol, have any idea when the learner awards are announced?
did you give with the school? or private
school
Yea so it comes around Dec-Jan
If i'm private, it comes out before?
if you gave private you would get an email instantly ( it happened for the guy who got distinction in CS)
not the point of the convo but you can write A*A*A* if you put a \ before the *
😭 sry idk about that tho
👀 damn i never knew that. ty
