#Choosing a major

so you already said you like maths
what about any other science?
physics? chem? bio?
bio and chem is quite a bit of memorization
physics?
I am interested in physics too
okay, so physics and math
have you thought about engineering?
you can do mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering
To be honest my father is a mechanical engineer and he has shown me some stuff before from what he works on. I am not interested in machines or anything like that…
I tend to like stuff where you get creative. Doing your own work, doing something unique.
but I am not creative
oh, i thought you said you dont like creative stuff
Oh here I meant it concerning programming
I just like logic gates, binary/hexa/decimal conversions. Other than that I don’t feel like I enjoy it..
Yes
do you like the programming part of it?
I liked it at first but then I noticed how my teacher would give us questions to create our own program and I would spent a lot of time to create it just for it to be wrong most of the time
Let me say, I can understand it to a certain level
thats how programming tends to be - mainly correcting errors
you have quite a bit of time before your college since you're only grade 10
is there a counselor in your school whom you can talk to?
No not really, but when I speak to teachers it’s like they want me to major in their subject or something idk. They rarely understand me when I say I am incapable of memorizing a lot.
programming isnt really memorization
also during a job you dont just do whatever u want
well thats how it works, if he asked u to create a program that does a specific task then would that be easy for you?
cs is also based on understanding and applying not pure memorization like biology
Ik but sometimes it asks you for something tricky that you have to add within the program + I can only find easy errors
For cs I remember how we had to understand how something works then memorize the steps. You had to memorize a lot of processes in each chapter
And ik that you won’t do whatever you want in a job ofc but as I heard from some others, as an architect or an interior designer you don’t get to memorize a lot
Tell you what, I personally like geometry a lot and I am doing great with other topics in maths. So I was thinking architecture but I am not really sure if that’s what I want/would like
sure you dont but the % of successful people is way lower than cs
not the same in an actual software development job
google is the best friend of programmers
Oh really?
Don’t they get to memorize stuff like the whole operation system and stuff?
you get paid to solve problems and create new software based on what they tell you, you can use ai, google, anything u want
yes
no??
Oh that’s interesting
I’ll dig deeper into those branches and check what suits me best then
Thanks a lot!
Here is a REAL look at a day in the life of a Software Engineer. Many other videos like this don't begin to scratch the surface of what it's really like - they'll show you their catered food or ping pong tournaments but not what work is all about.

Guys which major is the best? computer engineering, software engineering or computer science
software engineering is part of cs so we'll eliminate that
computer engineering if u like hardware more
computer science if u like living a comfortable life and u like software more
how is computer science comfortable
you barely get sleep
very false
you get flexible hours
crazy benefits, incredible pay
basically all other stem fields are worse
in terms of being comfortable
you can choose to work at home or at an office
you get a free laptop/setup
arent they talking about college
😹 whats the point of an easy major if u end up living a shitty life
This all depends on how your work comes out though, right?
No major is easy
yes'
debatable
most cs jobs come with the perks i listed above
?!?
maybe if you're a born genius then sure
all majors in colllege require effort
communications
it isnt easy
it is
literally if a major was significantly easier than another, everyone would do it
either you are a born genius who gets 100%s in all your tests, or you need to do your research
no because it doesnt have good outcomes lol
do you think people who want to make money major in communications
they major in stem
that doesnt make communications easy
???
im combatting your point
"if x major is easier why doesnt everyone do it"
im not saying its easy because it makes less money
yes ofc
for example
this explains why they're easy
ok
It depends on the person tho, some people can’t work within a specific field
