Caterpillar does nothing but eats though. All the capeless I've met are absolutely experienced players, like they help others more than the other way around, because you aren't gonna survive as capeless without knowledge and experience.

This said I can see if they can be annoying in the forest, they absolutely can't die, so just run around flightless for giggles. Looks weird to others I guess?

The nicest one I met was at Grandma's once. but I usually don't see them for very long.
(I know most aren't mean because a few are, but those were my first interactions with capeless )

It probably has something to do with the last fix to cameras being used to cheat into rooms and sometimes entire maps

But I also find that bug kind of weird. Shared memories cameras have been designed so you stay in the same place while looking at the memory, so they don't help you with wax gathering anymore (Before, your character would just randomly float around to get the camera angle)

Nowadays, Sky can be very overwhelming to the new players. It’s a bombardment of information on how everything works, and the first few hours of gameplay are the most important to any player who’s testing it out

I think the thing is, too, though, there may very well be players who are not full-time game players. To me, who’s been playing video games my whole life, it’s a cinch. To someone who’s never played a video game before, they might be a bit lost and overwhelmed.

All of Sky's basic mechanics are shown throughout the main story, how to fly, how to call, wl and spirit gates. The only complicated stuff is the events, but that early in your playthrough shouldn't be a new player's focus. When i first started playing i certainly did not care for season of dreams. That is late game content, or atleast i feel it should be. I feel they should leave it simple so players can explore and find things out on their own. Thats certainly what my experience was and why i still love the game 🙂

You're overestimating the intelligence of the average sky player.

I’d say Eden has actually gotten harder; in old Eden you only needed to have enough WL to brute force the continuous rock rain. In today’s Eden the CRR area is much more compact but you now lose wings faster, so the space between now requires more strategy and timing to avoid the red lights, for instance

The one thing I’d say did get easier is the adjustment to crawling. And that wasn’t hard. It was tedious and annoying.

Got to be honest, I thought the crawling was less impactful than the first system purely because it also added the camera pan up the Eden crystal right at the end. It kind of took away from the finality of seeing your skykid slowly limp to a halt.

Even to this day, it’s still here. And I honestly don’t like it.

Can i be real for a second. Ive been playing since dreams. I always thought my love for the game would never dwindle, but recently ive seriously considered just straight up deleting it. In the beginning it was magical and gave me a very good feeling. I don't have that anymore. In recent years i only have frustration. I dont want that...

You need to understand that people playing sky are very different people. Mostly us here on discord would be seasoned nerds, we know how and where to look up stuff etc.

There's a lot of actual children. Who have like a Switch. No wiki no nothing. Game is pretty, someone in school talked about it, they go check it out, but the game itself is gibberish because
. no particular goal;
. no real tutorial or guidance;
. you can't really talk to other people off the bat and ask for help, leaving them even more confused (.....?)

So it's not bad to streamline first maps, not like any vets are gonna lose out on it.

I kind of got spoiled on the ‘you die in Eden’ thing, but even I was a little lost. The permarain section pre-Shattering didn’t have the gradual transition it does now, so I honestly assumed when I saw the section where the shards didn’t let up that that was the game’s way of marking the end of PNR. That anything beyond was just extra set dressing. So I missed the entire second half of Eden.

Not my proudest moment.

The tutorial in isle cant be more clearer than it already is. Shows you the wl, shows it upgrades your capes, explains the vauge plot, shows how spirits and spirit gates work. Literally all you need. I didn't need to look it up on a wiki, cause its not that hard to understand

But I have some friends. Being 6-8 years old and this game IS kid friendly, so I'm not surprised they play, just that they on average are extremely confused.

The people I play with now were players who were lost. I was the one to guide them through it. It was easy for me to understand, maybe since I was there in Revival and they weren’t idk. Moths come from all sorts of backgrounds and may not be familiar with this type of narrative of game.

Sounds like me. I couldn’t figure out how to get home from Sanc, so I closed the game eventually thinking, “Meh, I’ll worry about it tomorrow”.

It was a pleasant surprise to wake up back at home.

Personally the main thing that holds me back from recommending it to my friends is the question of "are they able to put FOMO aside to actually enjoy the game's qualities?"
Because it's the only game i play where fomo even is a problem, i don't know how any of my friends would deal with it

I played Journey recently and its everything that made sky so good. Unfortunately the fomo and constant need for new cosmetics eventually gave Sky a different feeling over time for me.

I can't hold everyone to the standards I hold myself to. I explain a lot of things to people who have been here for a while too often, to think that everyone understands everything about Sky.

I’ve been wanting to play Journey, too! Picked it up when it was £2 on Steam. Never actually played it.

Same. I love Journey more, but it’s the pros and cons of an online game. I would prefer it be more concrete and complete, but that’s just the nature of it being a free to play online game. (Though I’d pay $60 for a full version of Sky if necessary. I originally thought it was a one time payment game as it is.)

I don’t like to speak ill of Gen, so… ‘hyper’ is a good and neutral way to put it, I reckon. It’s very active, all the time, and basically everyone is bouncing off the walls and each other.

in my worldbuilding, I gave the sprites various genders and names so I could write stories about them. I personally do not like writing characters that have the "they/them" pronouns

nothing against that choice but from a purely gramatical standpoint, it gets really confusing and just doesn't let the story flow in my experience. the "they/them" words are originally used to denote multiple people

I finally made the switch from a laptop to a desktop PC. Laptop cost me $700 and can’t run Sky, this new tower cost me $900 and can run Sky, in addition to all the games I own but couldn’t play bc my laptop was so clunky

Laptops have to deal with more constraints compared to desktop PCs. In particular, there's battery life/use, heat management, and smaller hardware just to fit in the casing

Such constraints mean more R&D to make the components and the laptop itself. You can actually notice that gpus for laptops differ wildly from desktops.

i avoid buying new tech products too with the mining/child/poor labor processing that has been coming to light from these companies it’s important to make sure it’s going to last/isn’t furthering that industry. it sucks that 90% of the market (and most jobs) don’t have alternatives either

Take my advice: When it comes to a PC/laptop, you get what you pay for. But you don’t have to get anything brand name or fancy: I just got a Lenovo LOQ and called it good. No Skytech Alienware stuff, and no glass casings, their ventilation is simply awful

CPUs have different sets of pins that are INCREDIBLY delicate to the point that if one is bent, you have to go to a seasoned repair shop that has a solder machine to get it fixed. Motherboards are largely the same, the main difference is their size (determins the size of the case) and their socket, where the CPU goes

this reminds me of smth actually, when i was a moth i went to eden and then while i was there, in the 3rd area i found a player who was helping another moth and i clunggg onto that player and friended them, i named them strong 😭 i was literally too scared to move, they dragged me through eden and then i never saw them online again until a few weeks ago where i profusely thanked them, and that player remembered me!! it was so sweet agghh
