@pulsar ocean If U're using a software like firealpaca, add a new layer on top of everything, paint it the color of the sky, set it to multiply, change the opacity to your liking and use and eraser to lighten some things up if you'd like that

So I printed off the page and then used watercolours, black marker to give the lines more definition, and white gel pen for corrections and embellishments. I also made the birds black bc I like that graphical glitch. Hope you like it 💕😊💖

Researching rainbows I came across a red rainbow that happens during sunset, so decided to give a transition between normal in strong sunlight into red in sunset light even if such localized conditions are unrealistic. Same with the saturated shadows of the clouds. I wasn’t able to control color quite as tightly as I wanted to, but it’s as good as I can get it with my current tools and skill level. The hardest part was the mask for the rainbow with such thin bands that had to curve just-so to give the feeling of perspective yet stay in even proportions relative to one another as that happened!🥵 I worked really, really hard on this. I hope you all enjoy, and please do zoom in and look closely, I put a lot into it.

I made this in Art Set 4 for iPad by Lofopi with just my fingers (no stylus/Pencil), with a little starting boost from Procreate to properly isolate/mask-in the original line-art for reliable, accurate colorizing of the lines themselves. Art Set supports the P3 color gamut, so those of you with compatible devices will see it fully-fledged (much richer, more intense pinks, purples, and more vibrance in the bright greens, in particular, for this composition)(only after tapping through to full-screen (“Open Original” on desktop) is the file’s own color profile loaded and applied, whereas the in-line post preview is significantly flatter and dimmer, which may represent the non-P3 rendering of the image for those without P3 support, I’m guessing).

P.S. I goofed with the mist over the lines around where the rainbow intersects the foreground figures and have since updated it with a few other little enhancements and tweaks to #completed-sky-fanart-and-creations rather than nuke this original post (Discord can’t change a post’s picture) or reposting here:

That might be closer to trans colors, @hearty harbor 🤔😋 There’s a lot going on chromatically, particularly in the 🌈, so picking out certain elements could be construed in a wide range of ways😄 Post edit: I realized the P3 color gamut it’s authored in isn’t supported by a lot of devices outside Apple’s latest, and without it the pinks in the bright part of the red portion of the rainbow are dampened significantly, making them appear more yellowish-orange, which makes them closer to the lesbian pride flag’s orange-ish-brown colors, the blue/purple/violet’s red-rainbow portions’ becoming a darker purplish mauve from their luminous P3 megenta brilliance. Whereas IMO the P3 original is farther-from than it is closer-to the lesbian flag relative to the reference photos of red rainbows I was working off of and aimed for, that’s not to say there isn’t room in the rainbow for the full spectrum, as it were🏳️‍🌈🧡💛🤍💘💜

Magnificent and a quiet majesty I think capture well the feelings Prairie evokes. In trying to translate that into sunset, I tried to give a sense of expansiveness by scaling back the intensity of the 3 most distant islands’ colors while also making them brighter due to the volume of air in front of the tower of clouds at the left wherein the light is diffused most intensely as it breaks over the bank of clouds on the right. In fact, the mist at the left I added mostly to help establish why the rainbow would appear, since its phenomenon requires abundant moisture. Prairie’s Nest, for example, does have some drifts of mist, if you look closely while playing. The two small figures in the center of the composition support that sense of scale well, I think (look closely and you’ll see I added to the linework because I felt the cape shape of the higher of those figures suggested the scalloped Lightseekers cape, a hybrid between that and the Ultimate Gift Lightseekers cape that has those additional gold lines across it).

Additionally, a rainbow is visible only opposite the sun, so that’s why the perspective on it needed to position and angle it as close as could be managed to perpendicular to the setting sun’s direction of light, again relying on implied expansiveness through that hint of perspective to be propagated in the mind’s eye through a volume of space vast enough that the composition justifies its position to at least some degree in the scene’s 3D space, even though I did of course cheat with some artistic license.🤓🎨

I also tried Procreate but did not like it at all. Tayasui Sketches has a free version I have not yet tried. I’m curious about Art Rage.

Every time I try filling in the sky it fills the dragon and blocks a section of the moon and sky. So I tried fixing and editing the dragon a bit? But I can't seem to be able to remove that extra bit in the coloring. Can someone help?

@Stranger Danger#3382 I use a different app and idk what you've all tried, but rn I'm also doing the same coloring page. I made a layer for lineart and made the linework thicker, then I adjusted my filling tool and tested it out by using it, then proceeded to keep adjusting the filling tool until it filled in just fine. Idk if the application you're using has the ability to adjust the filling tool or not tho.

Here is a digitally exact transparent copy of the original line-art file preserving ALL information.

For reference, I’ve also included an illustrated comparison exhibiting why this matters (though perhaps few will much care): quick-and-dirty tolerance-based selection, as with a “magic wand” tool, inevitably mangles the soft strokes, edges of lines, and trailing ends of lines, whereas direct conversion of the line-art into an alpha mask fully preserves all its values (I used Procreate for iPad), for example how rakish and rough become the soft lines on the “arm” of the snowman.
