Decide which direction the light is coming from, maybe even draw some arrows representing it, and from there you should find it easier to figure out where shadows and highlights belong.

I also wanted to mention that although I haven’t done much more than lurked here, I’ve seen your art a few times before and when I saw this I was struck by how much you’ve improved! Your positioning used to be a bit more stiff, but I can clearly see that now it’s looking way more natural, which is awesome. Keep it up! You’re doing great

Basically Deer (yes that’s her name) comes from a secluded village in the Valleys. They live close to their sacred lake, and basically the story is their ancestors were weak, lost and at the maw of the wolves when they stumbled upon the lake and the resident deer god drove them away before bestowing unto them a sacred mask. They lived under the Deer’s protection for generations before one night, the deer vanished.
They spend decades trying to reunite with the deer, and they tried to raise all the children to be perfect in hopes that the deer would return for their chosen one. I don’t know if I made that make sense.
Deer was one of those children. She rarely strayed from the village, except for one time where she ended up getting chased by a pack of wolves while she was visiting the lake. She doesn’t remember much about what happened between the wolves appearing and her waking up in a stranger’s house.
She was actually rescued by a lone hermit, Winter. Winter was used to dealing with the wolves when they kicked up a fuss. She didn’t know where Deer was from, and didn’t know there was a village nearby, so she did the next best thing and brought the poor lady back to hers to heal her up. She explains as much to Deer.

My hands are going into cramp so I’ll have to make it short and sweet, Deer awakens the deer of the lake and they reunite, basically making her a “god”.
