I want to just rant to get something off my chest but I don’t want any pity or anything

I don’t frequent this chat anymore. I stopped visiting a while ago. I feel like my art is ignored and I, as an artist, am not valued. I don’t want to hear anything about how reactions don’t equate to people liking art. The numbers speak for themselves. I know not everyone will react to things but when you compare the ratio of likes to frequenters of art chat, it speaks for itself. Hell, when you compare it to the pieces literally right next to mine it says a lot.
I only ever really visit here when I need something now. Only for my own benefit. To post art and stick around for likes, which I then don’t get. It damages my mental health, it really does, so I don’t post as often anymore.
And yeah maybe this rant isn’t welcome or something you’ve all heard before but I need to get this off my chest.

And no this isn’t about anything that happened recently, it’s been building up for a while and I’m working with my therapists on communicating my frustrations

As someone who's been doing art for 4 years, I admit that my improvement is slower than the others.

I can't avoid being jealous of people having the better art than me. But then again, after awhile it's not worth it to compared yourself to others since youre the one who's destroying your own confidence

Remember to give yourself some credit, get the first art you ever created and compared it to your current one.

Don't compare your arts from someone else's, instead just use your past achievement and use it to see how much you improved.

Hey. I understand where you're coming from. I used to be in a server where my art was ignored all the time and I had to watch as others that posted their art over me and got alot of likes. But in communities like these.. It really isn't anyone's fault in my opinion .. in big communities like these art comes and goes. Alot of art is produced, and the harsh reality is that not all get the same amount of attention. Sure it may not be the nicest thing to acknowledge, but some people here are preferred over others and there's nothing much you can do. The probability of your rant being forgotten and people just moving on and repeating the same thing is very very likely, unless it is made a rule in the server for no ones art to be left out.. which.. I think is also gonna be a rule broken very often

Just want to personally say that I love the character you made just recently, I stopped for a minute to look at it in detail, and remembered your name I do hope you'll continue art if it's your hobby that you personally enjoy Your hobbies should not depend on likes and reactions, but rather on you and your improvements and what you'd like to do with in the future (if there's anything you want to do with it) I'm sorry you feel like that, I know it's hard to separate likes from your art. It's hard to see yourself and your art as worthy when you fixate on likes and so on. I hope you get better and realise the likes don't make your art any less worthy/important , especially if it's something you really enjoy and makes you happy

(honestly sometimws i like it better when my art gets a smaller amount of reactions because those who did react were probably actually paying attention to it as opposed to multiple pwople scrolling past and just reacting to it mindlessly, however, other perspectives are also completely valid ^^)

i think, in general, if you really want to ask for the advice, it's a plunge you have to take, despite any hesitation. i'm not trying to be insensitive, but for the most part, i see a lot of support here, people who are genuinely willing to say something if you ask. sometimes it may seem like they're not paying attention, but you also have to remember that people randomly get busy or have something that takes their attention away from the server.

even if you decide not to ask for advice, i say just keep drawing and posting. the best way to improve is to keep drawing despite the attention you may or may not receive, and like Yasspian and Toast said, don't compare yourself to others. progress at the pace that seems natural to you. forcing it will only hurt your art and do more damage in the long run.

try to not shade with black, use more saturated and dark versions of the colors to shade

establish a light source and shade light like that, see where it reflects off of

generally using a colour that is like a darker version (without adding much black) is better than adding black for shading, it shows the dimension in colours better
