Makonar was raised instead by a kind-hearted scholar, where he lived most of his life in a library by the sea.

In the afternoon, his family spent the entire day looking for him. The sea was much too dangerous during these hours to go searching for him, and much to the diving team’s protests, their mentor refused to let them go.

Makonar returned.
But barely alive.

In his trembling hands, he held the artifact they were looking for for weeks. As he left the sea, a trail of deeply coloured, glowing blood left him and lost itself into the ocean.

Makonar had spent the entire night searching, and had found the artifact. He happily grabbed it and would have went on his way, if it weren’t for a deadly turn of events.

A brutal krill-shark attack left him brutally injured, and he fought to stay alive the entire night as he forced his weakened feet to push him up to the surface.

Makonar’s pupils dilated and went up into his head, as he fell limp and collapsed forward, the bloodied object rolling itself to his mentor’s feet.

He was given a small, quiet burial later on. The ceremony was filled with silent prayers and mourning.

The rest of his family eventually left, feeling solemn, others feeling nothing at all, having gained another treasure, but losing a good friend.

you should also introduce a background/middleground/foreground focus. Everything is equally rendered when the object of focus (merkid) should be clean, objects closer to the camera should be extremely blurry and also darker (helps to frame), middleground objects (the seaweed behind the merkid) should be mildly blurry, and then the stuff in the back should be closer to the water colour.

Okay well, , off the top of my head

avoid using extremely saturated colours unless it's for a point of interest. The flame in the eye and the hand blend in with everything because of how similar they are with your lack of range.

you have shading down, great! let's add in lighting, and make your shadows more aligned with where the light is actually hitting it. Shadows wouldn't be on the bottom of objects if a light source was directly beneath it
