Hi Bubba! I saw your question in the forums after the forums got archived lol. Text wall incoming!

Yes watercolors, while "easiest" in terms of setting up, space needed and stuff, it can be VERY fickle depending on brush, paper, and watercolor quality, and absolutely punishes mistakes.

Gouache is opaque watercolor, but usually they come in tubes. The other form they're sold in is paint jelly cups that got hyped years back. Gouache has lovely colors, easy to lift, can be drawn over or used with other mediums more easily, and overall quite easier than watercolors. However, the colors are not as poppy or saturated as acrylics. And you can't use thick techniques like impasto (which acrylics can) and using far too many or too thick a layer causes cracking. Also gouache colors color shift more than acrylics once dry.

Idk if this will help, but you can add one colour where you want to place the flowers, and after that change the hue settings on the flowers to see which colour will fit best

Alright, so this is a whittling project that is at the beginning stages, so it's not immediately obvious that it's going to be a candle and a seasonal heart yet — I was going to wait a bit to post the first update until it was at least a little more obvious what I'm doing, but I am in an aesthetically-sappy mood, and sitting outside here, woodcarving outside during the golden hour, I'm suddenly noticing how much I love the way that the sweeping cuts at the beginning of a project catch the sunlight. It reminds me of cicada wings and the smoke after you snuff out a candle with a candle-snuffer. The artistic-brain part of me is feeling a disproportionate amount of emotions about the beauty of these textures, and I'm hoping these turn out how I want so I can share more updates as they refine themselves even more
