also my very lazy day 7 of skytober LOL. i had no idea what to do for the prompt (alt list, guide not lilypad). so i was just like okidoki a sky and two skids, call it a day

ill attest to this, i agree completely

in fact, thats why most of my skytober pieces have been in 1. a new program and 2. using tools in the program im unfamiliar with, with prompts that may or may not inspire creativity. lastly, the goal of FINISHING pieces, even if i may not like them.

youll get vastly more skill by doing things with repetition and stepping out your zone!!!

I usually not trying out other programs nor stepping out of my comfort zone too far, but I do like experimenting with styles, brushes, colors, forcing myself to try something harder (like thin lineart for big drawings ), keep practicing anatomy/theory, learning from references and other's works..
but I still seem to making improves bit by bit, because I'm comfy with that

so what I wanted to say is that it also important to not overhelm or push yourself too much, find the way you like to make progress, but I'm completely agreed with study being important !! progress is goodies, burnout isn't goodies

ive been learning clip studio paint this skytober as a challenge, bc im a diehard sai2 user, but i need more options so skytober has just been my way to force myself to learn the program. THERES TOO MANY OPTIONS

thats why i stuck with sai2 for so long!! but ill be entirely real, ive been wanted to swap over primarily bc clip is naturally in dark mode and sai2 burns my eyes with how white it is LOL

I just found krita being similiar to every program I've tried and yet being unique
easy to adjust, not too simple nor complicated interface, etc., perfect to stay in

but!!! I also agree that apps does matter
for me it was WAY more easier to change the style, improve the coloring and stuff when I switched from alpaca/ibis to krita

I don't think anyone has a Sky kid base like that
You could maybe make one from using a in game model or a Google image of a sky kid they usually have ones wearing cosmetics etc on there

But if you're just starting out doing digital try to get a grip on how the brush your using works first and try to get used to drawing digitally from drawing shapes or little doodles
Getting the hang of suddenly going from paper to a screen is kinda difficult at first and some have preferences to traditional more so but digital can be really fun to you just gotta get used to it
And I wish you luck !

Wow, thank you! I appreciate that a lot, I'm glad that the imposing nature is effective, I think I've been staring at it for so long that I can't tell if it's working or not, lol.
And for sure I took a little bit of inspiration not only from the design of the "dark dragons" in game (the red spotlight is incredibly ominous so I definitely wanted to incorporate that), but also as a huge Lord of the Rings fan, there are definitely some shades of Sauron in there, lol. I just thought like, the dragons in game are so threatening, and Eden is such a wicked place, who or what could be potentially commanding all of this destruction? Certainly a being that I wouldn't want to be seen by- and if I was, as a denizen of the Sky realms, or a sky child, how terrifying it would be.

Oooooh yes I definitely see it! I think the jagged edges you chose are super effective! Not only does it make the monster look sharp and dangerous, but it also clashes (in a good way!) with the rest of the figure! Both the side and the form make the king look like a mountain, and then you see those sharp edges and are instantly put on edge because they’re so unnatural! Funnily enough, it reminds me of something I heard when Tolkien was creating the map for LOTR, where he purposefully made Mordor all sharp, unnatural angles to emphasize how sinister and wrong the place was. I get similar vibes from your king!
Another thing I just noticed that I love is that the monster is ever so slightly leaning to the side! Not only does it make the viewer feel unsteady, but it also gives the king an inquisitive look, like you’re so unthreatening and beneath them that you are only worth a momentary bout of curiosity. It’s super well done and I LOVE it!

I have to admit, I've always been a fan of the Mordor aesthetic, it almost feels alien by comparison to the rest of Middle Earth, but there is a sort of sinister beauty to it. I'm also glad that you caught that he's leaning over just a bit! The original human-shaped sketch for the pose was tilting its head. I thought it would give the king some personality since body language is basically all there is to read here.

Like deep call to stunt the plant for sheer opportunity of escaping. Since the plant evolved to have traits of red shards ( co-exist ), I would say it attracts to light and consume light for beneficial growth so u gotta take the chance before it grows bigger lol ( imagine the tension ). Items like torch or lamps would be useful at some point as they provide recharge and temporarily sway the plant. N for guidance, may be a different types of crystal like the ones in prairie peak serves as a pathway for safe spot n exit somehow?

i’ve only started drawing regularly this month cause Skytober

• use layers, they’re great heheh, you can also merge them, change their opacity, a bunch of things, just tap on the layer in the layers menu
• experiment with different brushes!! paintbrush (legacy) is standard solid colour, but there’s also lots of textured brushes, utilise brush size and opacity. one of my new favourites is charcoal (texture)
• smudge brushes, these are your blending buddies! you can change the size, strength and flow :)
• tap on the main menu, go into preferences > gestures, you can customise shortcuts here. for example i use 2 finger tap to undo, 3 finger tap to change to previous brush (especially good for erasing! don’t have to scroll whenever you need it)
• transform tool, good for moving things around, you can also distort and get some funky angles
• try different styles and keep creating, i’ve made more art in the past 10 days than i have in the past year
• if Sketchbook doesn’t work for you, try something else. it’s quite simple compared to other drawing apps, i’ve really gotten used to it so i’m probably not changing heheh
• hope this was some help! most important of course is have fun

You don't learn much anatomy through tracing someone's work very well
Anatomy is built off of shapes and knowing how it should look and tutorials are helpful for that and studying poses like I think it's called gesture drawing can be helpful
