I originally was going to make her skin light but then I feel like people would attack me because of the Caucasian/Asian/African characteristics (that’s what a lot of people throw at me but that’s just how I draw a lot of faces. ) so I was worried someone would throw pitchforks at me. I like both actually! It's just that the blush needs to turn into a slightly redish color and blend/blur it a little, but your own choice as well though!

I think the blush would be nice if it were just a darker tad redder version of the skintone (actual pink/red doesnt really work well without a blend mode on the layer)

I'm actually a little horrible at clothes as well, but maybe here's some small tips: try not to get into too much details, just simplify them without line-art (except for the cape, it needs to have a line-art unless u are going for lineless art), and also make them wavy if they are at a windy place, make the cape a little more droopy if they are at a rainy place, depends on the situation!

Criticism for the sake of hating is pointless but criticism for improvement helps a lot. And the only way to get that constructive criticism is to show what you want to improve on.

Character on right of first image: (she/they) very calm and monotone. Doesnt raise her voice very often and is mostly quiet and kept to herself.

I decided to do some hairstyle design for my Skytober free day, which brings me to something that's good for our community to talk about.

I was talking with one of my friends, and they were frustrated with how many human-Skykids are white when Skykids are brown in-game, and how few times they see humanized Skykids drawn explicitly as brown. It's worth considering why we do that -- sometimes we just don't even think about it. I see what my friend means, and we should think hard about why we tend to automatically draw our human-style skykids all the same way.

I decided to draw a set of concept art hairstyles for Sky after that talk, specifically focusing on black hairstyles. I learned that I'm not very good at drawing certain types of hair, but at least now I know what to practice.

Anyways, food for thought, y'all. Please think on it.

Agreed! Some of my sketches I like, some of them I don't, but admittedly it'd be easier if I wasn't drawing them tiny. I think I'll treat them as thumbnails or concept drafts, and then go and do full sketches with some of these hair styles later on when I can give them the detail the deserve.

Oooh sorry i read too quickly - as in you want to draw with the iPad not use to look at references

You can hold a pencil lightly and kinda flat and, gently scrape it all over the page to make it darker too?

U can a smudge* around with your finger to blend it out if u don’t have a blending tool

Although, make sure to wash /clean your hands after doing so because those pencil markings on your fingers will get on anything you touch afterwards. Especially any kind of light/white colored furnishings

I think mine changes sometimes u just draw and don’t always look on the style per se. I think what I like the most is lighting and colors to try and get the same feel of my photography (aka wanting to try and get the same feel as how I edit my photos)
So like a warm feeling for the most part. Maybe purple, red, orange, blue colors for the most part or tone
Definitely taking inspiration from some of my favorite artists too when sky is in mind too

Looks like xie did blue ish monochrome? And then added its opposite which is red, although a strong red opposed to the more less saturated blue.
Monocrome colors means same color or hue but from light to dark - if that’s what u meant axo
