here's some advice because generally this stuff falls into a big grey area:

• tracing is fine if it's done for learning purposes, but so everyone doesn't step on each others' toes it's best to keep the practice to yourself or not just claim the work as your own when you post it
  like if it's for your own learning it's fine, but it gets into a kind of iffy zone if you say you did all the work by yourself
• if you want to make a reference your own, change more than 50% of the original. Also get much more reference - I'm sure you admire many more artists out there that can influence your work. Expand the amount of works you look at so you can make a more unique hybrid than only hyperfocusing on a single piece of work.

well, what's important is to downsize to the bare minimum you can draw, and simplify
for me, the painting techniques I'm using for skytober is what I normally do with my colour based studies, which I know is reliably the fastest way I can have something with colour and have it look good automatically which makes it easier for me to accept the end result
the quicker I can like the finished piece, the faster I can move on
