sky has been created to be open to interpretation - there is no hard and fast story, if there even one at all. there's, technically, no canon, no non-canon, etc., and so when designing sky, although tgc does have a narrative department, their aim with sky isnt exactly to follow a storyline as much as send a message or make the player feel a certain way

Ok. So long long ago, the elders came to the valley of sky. There is no clear description of when they came to sky, but it was told that they were led by the king. They set up a small camp, and there, the first elder, the isle of dawn elder, found the power of light. He figured that it could be used to create things and power things, so he told the others. They decided they needed to explore more, so they headed further into the great valley. They found a field, and built the first boats. These helped them expand and explore. It was there that they found out there was a way to collect and store light, as the daylight prairie found. They could store as much as they want, and that is what they did. They loaded many boats with tons of light. Thus, the second realm, daylight prairie, was found.

Then, they set off further. But alas, the first of many hardships came. The journey to the forest. It was cold, and they went there to mine light. Yet mishap was at every turn, and at the fault of a few miners, lives were lost. But they succeeded in building the third of many great sanctuaries. There, the forest elder crafted the first light diamond. It was quite weak, but with this power, they could make great weapons, and the light power was much more efficient. Thus, the third realm was found and conquered.

They entered into the golden age. You can still see the effects of it today. Light was released, great golden, detailed structures were made. This seemed like the winning side, and they knew it. Championships and races were set up, and the winners, the valley twins, were made elders for their skill and sportsmanships. But the king wanted to press on. To build a palace. To build more. At the rate they were going, surely they could do no wrong.

But alas. The story was not so. It took for a darker turn, and it was one they would never recover from.

"Moria... You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame." -Saruman

With so much light taken and used, there was leftover. Matter cannot be created or destroyed, so the light returned to the world as something. Something else. The absence of light bred darkness, and still, they pressed on, oblivious. The vault elder, a wise soul, advised them of the darknrss, but the king would not listen. He wanted to go greater. A kingdom fit to be proud of. So he started the building of great walls. Here's where the story gets foggy, I can't recall whether he talked about them trying to harvest the light from whales, or the absence of light leading to the starvation of the whales and light creatures. Worn down to the bone, and devoid of light, they created krills and dark, corrupted plants. And the absence of light always seeks for light. Which is what the krills did. Fueled by darkness and devoid of light, they turned on any light there was. The city walls became a gateway to a prison.

What I wonder is whether this whole mission of ours is partly to pave the way for a new race like the ancestor race, eventually.

The darkness became a force, pressing and stirring up disruption. Corrupting the waters, the plants the very air they breathed. There was no turning back. At the kings order, the kingdom readied for war. A war for light. A war for "peace". A war for revolution. This once great city was going to be their dying ground. The vault elder advised against it. The king squabbled, and would not listen. So the war continued. Light became harder to find.

It was a losing battle from the start.

So many lives were lost, in that war. Shields, spears, barricades, they littered the field. The stagnant air drew a wind over the desolate landscape. Yet the king was relentless. He ordered them to push on. The wasteland elder, he tried his hardest. But it simply wasn't enough.

The army. Was decimated.

Fleeing behind the walls of the vault. The final sanctuary, the final step. They stored their light, in great libraries. Scholars rose, yet it was all doomed, in the end. Darkness was quick approaching. This haven would not be one that housed those that called it home, for very long. There was nothing left, but fast diminishing hope. The king at this point, had only one goal. Reaching eden. Reaching the light. Finally getting there. Only returning to their place would be the way to fix all of it, in his eyes. The vault elder could do nothing to stop him. With each step, the darkness drove closer.

He eventually did make it, to Eden. But it was with struggles. He looked back, and realised, it was too late. It was all too late. His plans were for a bygone era. Wracked with distraught, the king did his final act. As the darkness drew in, he did something to protect his castle. To bring them home. But it failed. The castle wrenched out of the ground, all light being sucked into a beam. But with all this light being sucked up, it left so much void. The darkness drew in. The world. Went dark. The king was dead. The city lost, and the beam of light, a final beacon of help.

But as I said before. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed. With so much light, a bit of it returned to earth. Us. The goal to bring back light and save this kingdom. This troubled world. The first sky children.

But it was not enough light. Not enough. So we gave our lives, gave our light, to make more sky children. And thus became the fallen ourselves.

An endless loop. Free the sky children before you. Be reborn by the sky children after you.

Alas, this is the troubled story of sky.

I think I may have changed it up before, but it was told to me on my second trip to eden by a veteran that's now inactive. He said the same had been just about told to him by a veteran before 😥

When I take a moth under my wing, I suppose I'll have to continue the tradition. He led me through alll tbe realms as he told this story. 😥

Lore story (kind of)

Not many people remember when we were grounded. What is now the wasteland was once the center of the kingdom. The stars protected us and the elders were our gods.
Then the stars started dimming. Without the protection of the stars, the creatures of darkness started sneaking in. First, a few crabs entered the moat. Then, the krill started taking over the skies. Soon, the ground was uninhabitable. The king had long been corrupt, but the queen had prepared for this eventuality, advised by the goddess of wisdom, who now presides over vault. At her command, the royal and common weavers had been weaving capes of light and butterfly wings for an escape to the air. Because of the krills, we escaped up to the clouds. The king refused to come, and now is the ruler of darkness.
The air was peaceful for a while, but the eye of eden, where the queen lived, was starting to become dark. The king was jealous of the beautiful area, and sabotaged it. The crystal, where the queen resided, was first. It closed itself and locked, trapping the queen inside. Without the power of the queen sustaining the area, the eye became the home of darkness, the young queen the only light.
Now, it is our duty to save the queen, and restore the light to eden.
