here's my overall take on the diamond and all:
darkness and light are one and the same. ancestors made bad by trying to separate them and use only the light, discard the dark. darkness corruption sludge oil whatever was the byproduct that started encasing plants and animals. scarcity made everyone edgy and fighty. they ramped up diamond production and kaboom... THEN war.

in my interpretation of the game, sky has always been inherently magical maybe it's because i've always seen it as a fantastical world, but deep calling for example seems like sharing your own light and energy with others, and i personally think that fits really well with the themes of friendship and community in sky
