I always had a bit of a headcannon that the krill were the result of the water around wasteland getting polluted (since they seem to be ok swimming in it)

Oh and also the krill seem to hunt the light creatures. Throughout the game the mantas, birds, etc all seem to be migrating towards orbit so it makes sense that the krill would travel to eden so they could intercept the light creatures for a few free meals

Had a theory on this once-

Compare power diamonds to batteries

Basically I kind of consider them to be in different stages but they get more automated

So like blue ones, right- relatively harmless and very manual- they have to actively be lit up by someone else in order for it to work and perform its designated function

Red pop tart rocks in Eden I think did the same thing except they suck light on their own

I don't know what those things could have been used for but we do see them in a building in Eden plastered onto walls, and I'm willing to bet there was a constant stream of light creatures or really anything that had light in it was being fed to it

The Eden diamond I believe is meant to be a perfect version of those 'batteries'- sucking up light on its own and is able to recycle that light instead of having to be fed all the time

And if not that maybe it functioned as a generator in lieu of being specialized to take in one particular light source- in this case the Ascension beam

of course we see that not working out for it and thus the perfect power diamond just melted down

you know what I do think turned out to be a perfect power diamond though

If I remember correctly in the orginal lore of the game the ancestors bulit a massive ark to traverse towards the holy site to avoid being attacked by the light creatures, but were stuck down just before they reached it and as a result the king was corrupted and the storm was born

So I feel like maybe the diamond was something being transported by an ark and like in the orginal lore was struck down, causing it to crash into the mountain and begin spewing out the bursts of energy seen in the final area of eden that is causing the storm

It’s exactly like in the original concept art of golden wasteland

When the defenders were in a tight corner, they planned to unleash the krill (like flooding the gates, but with krill instead of boiling water) but they were too slow and they got caught in their own trap along with the enemy, hence the carnage and mixed symbols

Krills like dark plants when reforming against your efforts are blue like that and I think the reason is not only that blue is a sad color.

IRL there are 2 types of light emitted from stars/suns, red and blue.

The blue stars are veeeery large, even hundreds times bigger than our Sun, so they have different conditions of pressure and temperatures inside, meaning in a bluer kind of light, because they burn faster (and because their combustion is faster, even if bigger, they have very short timespans compared to our Sun)

(Pretty sure even a normale flame could reach blue colors if it's hot enough, but not like common kitchen gas, that is due to what it:s burning, some gasses coule have even green flames)

So krill and plants, eagerly burn the lightforce they stole faster.

Another proof of that could be sky kids, they don't generate light on itself like mantas to fly, so when we flap we quickly burn a small portion of light energy AND out cape emits blue glow for a little

I have been unsuccessful trying it any other way than with these methods. If we can follow these methods then maybe it might work. And prove that the Krill or darkness .... now that I look at it.... this reminds me of the darkness in the fire trials and how you kill them with light once they run into you at the end

so that leads me to think: mb less ppl are dead than thought. mb ancestors are able to escape the realms and travel elsewhere, but some didnt make it and became spirits. and when eden disaster struck everyone left in a hurry without clearing their rooms

When the Prince opened the ascension beam the Elders wanted to go to Orbit and go home and the spirits wanted a way to ascend without dying, and that was the ascension beam. But several elders were worried that if neutral creatures manipulated and used the light creatures' road to ascension, it would destabilize the network, so they kept it under guard.
But the people that wanted to go to Orbit were persistent and they made an army. They attacked wasteland and wasteland trained krill and fortified its factories, and then they fought (how the war went is specified in the ver.1.0 and its super long so imma omit that). The war reached eden and whether it was an accident or on purpose the beam-emitter blew up and that's why shards of it are still flying around in eden.
So now the ascension beam could only be opened temporarily by the Prince and small er cuz the eimmitor was gone, so the king went and hid in orbit and the war ended, but vast amounts of resources were exhausted by the war and a lot of the working class was now dead, so then came famine and disease. The spirits decided this was all the elders` fault and they rebelled and imprisoned the elders in limbo.
With no clear leader and very little magical protection with the elders in limbo, the ancestors descended into anarchy and it all went south with all the famine and disease and infighting and so they went extinct. So that's how it all came to be.
