maybe the statues are the bodies of col that failed? They're initial bodies being turned into stone, preserved. Until the faithful day when a group (or solo) sky kid/col(s) actually destroy eden. Also, seeing as the skids are okay with it what would happen if the cycle is broken and their purpose is fulfilled? Would they return to being stars in the sky? Or would they be killed off? Or maybe fade into space?

Lol chocolate. I had an idea about the origin of Eden. In the beta originally the treck to Eden included blue crystals to grow out of the sky child the closer they came to ascending. Originally the now red crystals were blue. Blue crystals are essential in the movement and activation of the sky realm by the act of voluntarily giving light to them. However in Eden those crystals which are now red take light involuntarily. The Eden crystal emmiting light and darkness is very close in shape and concept to butterfly pots, a vessel that contains and transmits light to be used. It makes me believe that Eden was an accident through an attempt to produce a major light source for the betterment of the sky citadel. Clearly something went wrong, and the vessel took light rather than giving. Is the rebirth and ascension loop of sky children not to prevent Eden from happening but to contain the spread of Eden's corruption by burning corrupted plants and saving remaining animals. For this reason I also believe that the sky children are not the residents of the sky realm but where originally the givers of light to the original inhabitants, hence it became their responsibility to contain the corruption of light.

Here's my theory/headcanon(Sorry if this is out of place, also TL;DR: Spirits are past memories + souls):

Basically, the first life of the skid you're playing was a boy. When he fell he landed in front of the Ushering Stargazer's house (this is a clip before the new area it was put in). He was then "adopted" by them, in which he lived with them for a while. Skip a head, he meets all of the spirits we do and reaches eden. I'm pretty sure something compels him to go to the point of no return (BTW the lore for WL stays the same)? He goes in, goes through eden, saves a few CoL, goes through what we did, and gets reborn. Cyle continues and blah blah blah until it reaches the life we are playing. We go through our first life meeting the souls of out past friends through memories. We befriend them one again, and move on. We also somehow remember how to tie our hair, how to talk, etc from our past lives. And like that the cycle continues. you might be wondering "But how did we forget most of the memories from our past life and need to relive it again if after the first time we get reborn we still remember our emotes and have our items". Well #1 The memories fade over time and #2 We literally have a closet with all our stuff. Also I'm pretty sure the reason we get free hairstyles is because our past lives gave them to their spirit friends as to not lose them. While other spirits need light to "see" if it's actually you (it's demonstrated that skids need to put light on another to actually see them). Maybe they're vision is blurry from not seeing you for so long? Or maybe the fact you could have looked a bit different from what they last saw you as? Also you also might be wondering about the spirit statues, well that's where their soul resides sooo ye
