The spirit tree that was activated through lighting up the candles and reliving the Polite Scholar's memory kind of suggests that

And earlier we discussed the Elder Shrines and why the Elders need those candles to be lit- and my personal conclusion to that is that the Elders are now running on the memories and faith of their respective Ancestors to remain in the same realm as them

Or at least- that's the kind of light that they're living off of now that they've been cast down from presumably Orbit

And I drew the comparison between the white candles and the red Enchantment light earlier- each showcasing murals and I guess you could interpret that as showcasing memories of a collective instead of an individual

You also have white candles places around the Trials and lighting those up activates the Trial meditation shrine- MAYBE, by completing the Trials, it's through the white candles that Sir Prophecy is able to summon them at all

speaking of darkness though I kind of have a question about it

LIGHT CELL CREATURE THEORY
All creatures are formed through some form of spontaneous generation- born from light, and connected to the light. The light particles come together and from it, a new life is born. Perhaps darkness is simply a natural byproduct of light in this sense, and it is simply part of a larger process. Compare the process of making a creature in Sky in the same way that a cell would grow. Normally, that cell would just hop on over it's stages- from G1 to Synthesis to G2 and finally Mitosis where it splits into new cells. But some cells don't need to do that- and enter G0 stage, where they don't undergo Mitosis.

Alternatively, dark creatures could be a mutation- not unlike cancer. When cells reproduce, sometimes mistakes happen- resulting into a cell that's not quite right. Dark creatures could simply be a malicious sort of light creature if we follow this sort of logic.
So this way it doesn't betray Sky's ecology of light and dark, nor the generation of new light creatures.
