Considerating that all mushrooms fuse to trees, here is my theory...
Long ago, all the trees were thriving, but then came the mushrooms... they were, ofcourse parasitic, and while they were capable of feeding their stasis sparks, the irganic tissue needed nourishment as well and they sucked the nutrients outta the trees and so they died...
Pretty much like normal mushrooms that grow on trees lol
