So assuming darkness has been an ever-present source in the universe, and light was spontaneously created. The Elders (not necessarily the current six) created a place full of light away from the darkness.
Then Eden Elder was perhaps warned with a prophecy that the darkness was coming, and they needed to leave. Hence, the Isle, and the making of boats there. The Ark may be the one of the attempts to leave the world, but obviously failed. Isle Elder might have been telling people to leave all this time.
So Eden Elder gets this warning, and ignores it (Perhaps the darkness corrupted him already). Eden wanted to be the only Elder worshipped, so he decides to harness the power of the sun so everyone relies on him like they rely on the sun. Consumed by greed, he assures his kingdom that by controlling the sun, they'll be able to defeat the darkness.
To control the sun, they needed water to dampen its power, so pipes were created and dried all the water from the lands.
Then the prophecy came true, krill and darkness attacked from outer space.
Eden Elder was not able to control the power of the sun, and destroyed the sun instead, therefore destroying everything else around it, and killing the people too. This releases polluted water.
Later on, the Children of Light came into existence, and a second sun was in the process of creation. By dying and ascending, the Children delivered the spirits and winged lights to the Second Sun/Orbit to feed and grow it, and claim the land back from darkness.

@pseudo heart Ah I am having another Theory , maybe the Enchantment spirits tried to transform wasteland/ark back to it's original form but they couldn't find the elemental light , because the prophets had them or the original elemental light are probably lost by now(maybe during the big Boom) , so they made their own elemental light in hopes of fixing back the wasteland area but since they are artificial , they are hence weak when compared to the original elemental light so they were only able to fix the area around the shipwreck of the ark.

So my train of thought is that the different realms represent different areas and (more importantly) time periods for the kingdom. Isle of Dawn represents the fall from the stars, as all the spirits are migrants and there isn’t much there.
Daylight Prairie represents the kingdom being built. It’s peaceful and there’s workers of all kinds trying to understand the world around them and helping the kingdom function.
By Hidden Forest, danger is starting to set in and the people don’t like it. The dangers of the world unsettle them, which is why the spirits (workers as well) are cold, angry, dismayed and miserable. In trying to sustain what they have, they’re learning about the threats they face (like the Tearful Light Miner)
Valley was like a distraction. Games were put on to celebrate the good that they have and remind the kingdom that they’re okay. It works, for a little while. I’d say Valley, in an ironic sense, was the height of the kingdom.

Anyway, so Vault of Knowledge. If y’all know hindsight, this is more or less what it is. What remains of the kingdom desperately seeks information, and they confine themselves to the Vault to protect themselves while they search for answers. In this pursuit of wisdom, they gain their own kind of power (like telekinesis). But it’s not enough. They all die in the Vault, but their spirits persist to share what they’ve learned with anyone who comes by.
Maybe they even had the beginnings of a plan, but no hope of setting it into action. Which explains Eden, and why there’s no spirits found there, only Sky Kids that descended from the stars to try to answer the prayers of the spirits of the Vault.
So anyway there’s my two cents. What do y’all think?

Once there was a great civilization spread over 7 realms, filled with spirits and each realm was ruled by an elder spirit. Something happened in the largest and most powerful realm (Eden) and all the elder spirits were scattered to a place like limbo, and the regular spirits had lost their light. Something scattered ‘children of light’ all across the realms which you can collect to boost your flight power. The main goal of the game is to give as much light to ||the broken children in eden||

Sorry I didnt read all of what you guys were saying so I’m not sure if anyone’s covered this, but after completing the air trial, this tapestry appears. This is actually a pretty big lore drop because it shows 4 of the elders (5 if u count the twins) with the four elements. Prairie with the earth, forest with water, valley with air and I think wasteland with fire (it could be isle idk it’s a little hard to see). This means that these four elders used the elemental powers to create their realms, which makes sense. Another thing I want to point out is how the wasteland elder is the only one not faced towards the mountain, most likely symbolizing that he used the fire for selfish war reasons against the darkness (but ultimately failed, as wasteland is now overrun with darkness after an ancient battle), I’m guessing this means that he used his infinite fire source as a way to make weapons, which is why in the wasteland cutscene, he’s powerless until the skykid gives him fire. Again, I have no idea how much of this was covered but I thought it was worth it to mention it.

The manta poop thing exists in the game, that doesn't make it story-driven. It has been correctly identified by players, but we're not going to confirm any further. It really does not need to be discussed ad nauseum, while it's a fun tidbit we gave, discussion tends to veer into discussion that's not exactly appropriate.

Who fancies some lore speculation on the Air Trial murals?
The 4 lights appear to relate to the trials, and we see the Isle elder with some ancestors, possibly before they were spirits, with the 4 lights near the rock looking towards the cave of prophecy.
They also have boats, possibly to carry the lights to the Sky realms.
Above it appears to me that we have Forest elder (bottom) with blue light,
Wasteland elder (left) with red/orange light,
Prairie elder (right) with green light,
and Valley elders (top) with the cyan light.
My interpretation is that it is what allowed
water (blue light / water trial) into forest to allow growth of trees,
earth and plants (green light / earth trial) into Prairie to create the villages and floating islands,
fire? (orange/red light) into Wasteland to fuel the lamps, factories and battles,
and Air (cyan light / air trial) into Valley to help build the floating citadel.
Unfortunately ingame we see forest overtaken by water (rain, rivers, and floods).
Wasteland in a "burnt out" state.
Prairies buildings being taken over by plant life.
Valley with broken, still floating buildings.
Then 4 ancestors (spirits?) climbing a mountain which looks suspiciously like Eden.
Vault Elder is suspiciously missing, unless I have missed them.

@fading shoal it was based off of some cultures I forgot about but sky took some inspiration from them and wanted to implement it in the game. Like I said I totally forgot and I think it was for a certain new year celebration and they decided to add lanterns and boat lights ⛵️ 🔥

In enchantment red had something to do with the ark murals so idk what it is in terms of elements
But it "likes dark areas" according to the Enchantment search quest text
