All vertebrae in game are whale vertebrae. The tuna king, despite looking like a fish, moves like a whale (fishes cannot bend their bodies the way we see in the sunny caves) and has whale vertebrae, but it's skull is a fish skull. In graveyard, the skulls are sea turtle ones, while the vertebrae are also whale vertebrae. Even the skelleton in Vault 4th floor (valley constellation) uses whale vertebrae, even if it's an attempt to represent a manta skeleton (if we stick to biology, the depiction is not even close to reality). The other 2 sets of spines we see in vault are, not surprinsingly, whale spines.
So it could have a lore reason behind it all (mostly something on the lines of mixed animals such as we see in avatar the last airbender) or it could just be some game mechanics to male thinfs simpler for the designers (drawing and modeling realistic bones is hard and takes too much time). Maybe the devs never expected us to be so invested into such details. They probably were hoping we would see the skull and go: Oh look, a giant fish skelleton!

my theory is that vault is a 6 floor building, that mostly looks just like second floor, but bc we are unsupervised children, we mess with the lanters, turning on multiple projections at the same time and causing them to malfucion and everything looks like a dream

The way I see it, the elements and the enchantment lights are separate. My theory goes that the elements came first and are far more powerful, and the enchantment lights were created as a crude rendition to try and mimic the same level of power (which is why more than 4 were needed)
