The masks are more angular, resembling squares and rectangles. Other animal masks such as the weasel mask and the Rhythm bird masks are much smoother and rounded. Ok so a thought. What if the trials ARE the prophecy? As if they are some form of vision?
Trial 1 is a struggle of constant risk of failure, the way people would be if living season to season. You cannot grow when there is no food or water. You focus on surviving winter.
Trial 2 likely has some form of challenge where you have to work together to build up something? Likely the start if society, where it's difficult, but you are less directly in danger of death.
Air is the one with the launchies. Things seem good and fun but you likely fall a lot. It is essentially trial of Valley but with the ability to fall to the start of the race.

Little off topic, but y’know how it says in the lore doc that the spirits used bells to lure creatures of light? Well, the krill are deaf. U can honk, play and instrument, or run around as much as you want, but they won’t look at you. Also, if u lose ur flame, krill won’t notice u even if their light passes over you. This leads me to believe that when becoming krills, they blocked their sense of hearing because they felt angry or betrayed, or maybe it’s just a side effect. Also, krill can only see(or attracted to) light
