Honestly... I'm not sure the elders did let it happen. Wars don't tend to happen unless there are multiple oposing sides. There was probably at least one movement trying to stop the problem, another movement trying to handle a different problem that relied on the results from the first, and of course multiple camps that were too busy dealing with unrelated probems to focus on the first two

Samekh straight up launch it into the sky. Tsadi also yeets it into the sky using the sphere. Lamed has YOU send it into the sky via diamond, as Teth did herself.

so the probe is partially based on bricky's non-linear time model (#lore-discussion-spoilers message), what if the realms of sky and their position are not ordered as we would like to think, this could mean aligned in a chronological order different than the one we were present, the realms are in fact the same place evolved through time. hence not successive, with the thought i was hoping to play with the idea of time, thus temporally, that we are not progressing forward in time, nor linearly, but in reverse to the source.
