They build lots of statues with their features (humanoid) and giving them some kind of light magic that will make them active after long time in the future. Those statues become the sky kids
Kinda like the mummy movie featuring terracotta statue. The kingdom soon will destroyed, they made statues, giving them some magic so they will become alive in the future etc

I have an ongoing theory that might be edited heavily after the upcoming Prophecy season. (Considering the logo reminds me a lot of the King's head)

Basically the king is not around to be saved anymore because he was destroyed at the 'Eden catastrophe' (as I like to call that whatever happened to that place).
All that was left of the king were these hollow pieces.

OOB eden castle doesnt really seem to fit the castle we fly through, i think they made it less detailed because we wouldnt be paying too much attention to it

The area of the statues is indeed behind a wall of clouds in the OOB (you can encounter the warning) so who knows if the whole area is within the castle

Sorry this is a bit out of topic... but do you think crabs can be genetically modified bats?
Since we see a bat mask in the prophecy teaser. The season of prophecy is about the origin of the sky kingdom so all the events definitely took place before the eden explosion. Maybe before the explosion ,there used to be bats (thats why they have a sculpture of them)
But some vault scholars or even the prophets themselves tried experimenting with genes and stuff and they lost their wings.
Many people have noticed that crabs walk crookedly like bats.
