@stoic ore well maybe the light eminating from the crystal before it exploded was too powerful for them to get close to

Once the crystal exploded it could have provided the opportunity for dark creatures to take over Eden

I wonder if the sphere of the king has any more importance to the lore cause the Eden constellation show the people praising the orb

In the other murals it shows the elders carrying out their duties and helping their people, but the king mural is centered around the orb instead of himself

Maybe the orb was a source of light and energy for the kingdom

That orb could also be what was the last connection of the sky people to orbit. It would spend most, of not all its time in Eden. And in the end it can be seen expelling light and energy upwards.
This is just a small thought, but what if before the orb didn’t explode it was used to absorb light instead. Like it would be pointed towards the highest point in the kingdom and take the stars from the sky. When it exploded it would have scattered all the light across the kingdoms, hence why there are lost lights almost everywhere.

The light expelling upwards would be all the buildup of all the stolen light

I could be wrong about this, but it would be an interesting reason to why they fell into darkness. They were corrupted for their greed of more light

And this greed would spark the war in the wasteland? Idk

but i could not find it maybe my searching skills suck

excluding the new ones that come with seasonal areas or the ones that were added way later, I could count 64 "OG" winged lights, I downloaded the game on august 2019 and was noob for half a year since I did not pay much attention so my memory might be failing me so give or take 1-2 to that number. there are 63 statues that you can deposit light in the storm. coincidence?

maybe our og child of light(if there was only one) attempted to do the job of retrieving the stars by himself 63 times

Red candles are used for bestowing energy, so it makes when we light up another person's candle, we can see their features.

They also help with vitality, which is represented by us restoring each other's light.

It's mostly my speculation, but there's likely some form of candle magic going on, especially with red candles. Candle cakes are red and they restore a lot of our energy.

Among the list of things white candles are used for, here's what I think relates to here:

Purification, blessings, peace, enlightenment, prophecy and clairvoyance.

These candles can be used for contact with a higher self or spirit guides, which explains why they're used when we buy things from said spirits. And white represents friendship, like the white candles we use when people become friends through the game.

I think ascended candles are like a powered up version of the white candles. Which actually makes a bit of sense when you see them, they're a translucent red. Red is associated with power, and we use these to ascend the spirits, which implies the white candle.

my question is how did the prince become king and eventually rule the realm? if he is at most a teen, that is still not wise or experienced enough. did he really mature by accumulating power and worship or just in some metaphorical way?

darkness could be metaphorical - perhaps the elders got opposing ideas to the narrator. this difference in ideas made the elders leave orbit, and the narrator doesn't like how they had different ideas so they label the elders' change of mind as 'darkness'

or darkness is literal - the connection between all the elders and the CoL brought about infinite light, but then disconnection (as seen in the intro) caused light to,, not be infinite, and brought about darkness - if darkness was non-existent when light was infinite.
