So in old days there is civilisation, but they slowly crumbled in time and soon be destroyed. So, in hope for their "kingdom" to be revived in the future, and at least not to be forgotten, they make a backup plan. They build lots of statues with their features (humanoid) and giving them some kind of light magic that will make them active after long time in the future. Those statues become the sky kids

I think most of that makes sense, but I'm not sure about the 'long-time activation mechanism' thing. I would have thought that it'd make more sense for our life-force to be granted by either the Megabird or the Child of Light, going by the way the intro shows our hearts flaring up in response to a streak of light from the clouds

Yeah, I think the general idea of spirits making skykids as a backup plan remains intact if we consider that the Megabird is their main deity, and therefore they would have faith in her to give their vessels life after all the spirits get obliterated

when a person has died and restored light to the sky, the person becomes a star just like the light him/her restored. Those shiny bois are probably also children like you who bring light to the world and are then honored at death by becoming a permanent light in the sky. If you choose to reborn, you become a child again to restore light when the star falls

So if we can assume that the entire island was once covered by some kind of civilization, what was the purpose of the forest? There are seemingly walls surrounding a major part of it preventing entry

I’m not sure if it’s correct, but I don’t think the previous inhabitants of the island could fly like we can. If that is so, why is so much of the island only accessible through flying? We know they had flying boats, but places like the tunnel between the forest and The Valley seem like a very difficult thing to go through on a boat. Is it possible that when the catastrophe in Eden occurred the island broke apart a little?
And that parts of the island are lifted into the sky by the Eden crystal?

there are many theories and beliefs that the kingdom is slowly falling apart/decaying

Ah. Like most of the island was just kind of a flat area and that a majority of it was lifted up by the explosion.

I’d always assumed more than a generation. That there were people before us but after the ancestors. Because the ruins are very free of vegetation all things considered. But at the same time there’s a lot of decay. So it makes me think they’ve been cleaned and cared for after they were abandoned.

I'm now wondering if the Krill were made, would the darkness corrupted it. Even if born, corruption would've inevitably happened somehow.
And if they were made, for what purpose? Things are made for a purpose.

I think that the time between us and the ancestors is at least 100 years or so. It’s been long enough for plant life to begin to retake the civilization and for the buildings to begin to decompose
