The way the game is presented, each area works as a stage in the rise of civilization, isle being the first settlement
It has the least amount of spirits and is overall a pretty abandoned beach area

So Prairie is when civilization started rising , and Forest is when people started mining and stuff, while Valley is the peak of civilization

So, the way my theory goes, when the elders fell with the flame, they went on a journey to reach the eden mountain. At the time, this trek took a while since the ancestors’ civilizations hadn’t developed to the point of roads and such.
Due to the significance of this journey from isle to eden (it’s considered the founding of the kingdom), every ten years, groups of people would take the same journey on more or less the same route, starting at isle and walking all the way to the summit of eden. considering the godlike worship of the elders, this was usually done by monks and priests rather than your average everyday ancestor
this is just a fun headcanon of mine tho
