Fair warning, I do have a lot of spoilers, so read at your own risk.

Sky children get reborn, so that means they cannot die. But if they do not have light, they will remain trapped, their soul torn into two pieces. Light in this world is the most important thing, it is used to shepherd the spirits, to destroy darkness, but also keeps the children alive and the world alive.

So for the past two days I've been coming up with some theories. And these are my most believable ones.

After we are reborn, we go through what seem to be the remains/ruins of all the zones and as we go through them, we go towards the Sky and our rebirth.
So this is where my theory starts, sky children seem to be stars, their goal being that they are to help the spirits pass. But, what if the world as we know it, is actually a place where the spirits are stuck, and that's the reason we are in the clouds. What if the whole world actually looks like Wasteland, since we have to go down through a vortex to reach it.
And what if when we go through the ending scene in Eden that is what all the zones actually look like? What if they are all torn and devastated.

My theory comes from several things, there was obviously a reason the Eye of Eden became corrupted, the king could have become corrupted, maybe he was consumed by greed and power or once he died someone became corrupted and sought to take all the light for themselves, and thus caused the Eye of Eden to become corrupt.
All of the Elders we see are sad, their light had been taken from them and they are all weak. And when we go to Wasteland we see that there was war there, obviously Wasteland tried to fight, but as we see in the final zone, they did not succeed and we can see the Wasteland Elders weapons near the gate. We also see signs of war in Eden too, as there are dug up trenches, flags and so on across the whole zone.

For this to work, the world we interact with need be not real but rather memory. So perhaps the light also isn't light per se, but more like clear thought. Where you can think, you can see. And darkness would be what happens when you forget.

If you forget who you are, you are consumed by darkness

Under this theory, Isle is probably the edges of memories that make a person work. There's not much, but then what had been has likely been transformed rather than lost. Few stay at the port.

Vault holds that which is most influential. It's hard to lose and protected... Until it isn't

So today Sky concept art for Vault really capture my attention, especially no.4
We have been speculating that the Forest and Wasteland is a manufacturing place to extract light from creatures and store it in jars or compressed in diamond and ultimately use them for the advancement of Sky technology. The way we describe it in my mind (i belive many of us too) that the elder kill the creatures and extract their light.
Now from this text from Sky, it is totally diffrent! Tho storing light is on point, but the purpose is totally diffrent. Now we know that this place is a sacred palce, it doesn't involve killing, rather it may be a resting place for the dying creatures, to preserve their light the elder extract it from them and store it so the light live on, this also may explained the whale bones in forest. This is a wall a text, so I'll stop here. 😊

i think the diamond shield represents the king, and he was expected to be on the king’s side (diamond shield) but in his duty to protect the his realm he went against the king so abandoned the diamond shield for the sun shield

This is supported by the fact that the two places that have water are in fact wastelands where everything is dead and devastated, but the other zones are full of life, but also find each other in the sky.

Sky kids are an interstellar race we fly together in the vast expanse of space together like migratory birds Bird migrate together to conserve energy and strength. Sky kids are able to survive the vaccum of space, cosmic radiation empowers us, it odd to see we have so many adaptations for a cosy little planet that went through some sort of civilization ending event.
