I see it more as, this game is about memories, behind its altruistic message. A lot of people must have been into those races, put a lot of time there. So, your character, who is connected to all these memories, can hear those cheers because it's a big collective memory connected to that place.

He manages to beat off the last of the enemy warriors, but his wounds are too great and he dies... sorta?

They weren’t protecting vault, the symbol on the 2 shields actually gave me motive as to why they fought. They sun shield had that natural light symbol and the diamond shield I’m pretty sure it represented the faction at wasteland and their terrible diamond production. Wasteland has taken this way too far, corruption was starting, diamond industry was taken to another level and it was horrible. Therefore, there was a battle, and it was the ppl who supported the light vs the ppl who were with the diamond production and protecting wasteland. Basically a fight to jus stop all this. We don’t kno who won but theoretically the wasteland elder switched sides bc he once had a diamond shield but he ended up switching to the natural light shield. He prolly knew it was all wrong and joined them

We all kno that if we hit something hard rlly fast, we lose light, and the whale is physical so if it’s coming at full force about to break a building and we decide to get in the way and ram the whale of course it will hurt us, it doesn’t necessarily mean the whale is dark
