Well the corrupt version was when he was stuck in the storm all angry and mad and he jus throws spears at you and gets all aggressive
In early story concept before beta release, u would summon the elders and have them physically being there and the prince would also be in ur journey guiding u
And another version is a storm story concept of the prince taking u out of the King’s body and ok yk what
Point is they are 3 different story concepts and if u combine them all it won’t make sense

Couple of things for the lore channel on orbit.
If you are high enough in orbit, the rebirth appears like a large version of the stone gates for each kingdom, almost more rudimentary, like the Isle and Prairie ones.

Second I tried to see how close I could windwall my way to the megabird, and noticed its tail extending downwards has similar conveyer of light creatures streaming down from it.

Wow, when I went to sleep I never imagined the Child of Light and the Imprints could be figured out.
Solid theory.
So assuming it is the/a Child of the Light that we hug before orbit, it makes sense as we get a lot more cape energy and become shiny after hugging.
The winged light giving "shiny bois" we see around the kingdoms are echoes of that power, I still haven't solidified in my mind whether they are living in their own right, or they are more like how we irl cast "shadows", these imprints are like that for the child of light / children of light.

I've always thought the masks the player characters wear are similar to the stone material we see, but without the mask, we are a darker, different material.
So possibly where the winged light shiny bois are an imprint of the child / children of light, we start as, and are an empty vessel for the light imprints.

Now raises the question, why didn't the child (a being of more power) collect the spirits themselves, or, why is it us going to collect the spirits?

Theory 1: Maybe the child / children did try, and got some spirits home, but doing so lost some of their energy, and that is the winged light formed as shiny bois we see around the kingdoms, like we do when we lose light. And so send us as empty vessels down, so that no more light is lost from orbit by them, and slowly we can bring the light back to orbit again.

Theory 2: they are unable to leave as they are filled with light and pulled towards orbit, and like us when we enter Eden, have began to ascend back to the megabird with no way to return, but is still able to project part of their power down into the kingdoms as the winged light.

Either way, we are created as a vessel, in the image of the child / children of light, autonomous enough to bring the spirits home, but without power to leave behind, other than that granted by the child.
So the child waits at the edge of orbit for us to return the spirits granting us a small part of their energy to allow us to guide the spirits back to the elders and Megabird in orbit.

Theory 3: The child we see before orbit appears to be tired, needs help with standing, so we offer our hand to them. So could it be they are tired from doing something or losing something?
Maybe they created the player characters as vessels of themselves and are exhausted from the creation of us.
Or they are tired from projecting the winged light back into the kingdoms / having lost some light within the kingdoms.
Or they see children being lost in the storm and are losing hope until we return.
Or a combination of these.

You know how the intro said when the stars were united, their power was infinite? well on the gate to eden it seems like faces with masks from different areas of the game are combining their light. maybe the big power diamond in eden was the result of the elders putting all their light together to make an infinite power source that was ultimately too much to handle? all of the previous stages could have been representing the process of gathering light. the isle was before the elders began working on the power diamonds. butterflies' light in prairie and later bigger creatures of light like birds and the mantas were killed and compressed into diamonds which were later gathered into one big diamond, Eden's power diamond

Prairie’s job was to collect butterflies, put them in pots and deliver them to forest, u can actually see some of the praire boats with pots in them at the forest dock but anyways, forest took them and built an industry that used these pots of light and combined them with organic material to make a power diamond

I know this isn’t much, and it’s also pretty obvious but one confirmed thing I can say that I got earlier is that the 2nd vault level is supposed to metaphorically represent the forest level, and our perspective of vault supposed to be a like a revisiting journey from the past to tell us a story of what made the world the way it is and its main history. It’s also supposed to be like a history preparation before you go into the “brutality” of the eye of eden
