Sports were their form of entertainment, which are competitive, and there was also something like a race. Skating was a form of sport. The coliseum is something akin to the Olympics, which is why there are fireworks.

Uh I had a thought- there’s a graveyard inside the vault. It’s the area where the seasonal spirit is rn? A graveyard has no place in a vault unless that’s where the survivors of the crystal breaking lived, and when they passed away they got buried, in a hidden area so as to not interrupt the vaults purpose as a record keeping area but still in a respectful manner. That area looks like there’s stars there, probably something to do with putting the dead to rest because stars are where they came from so stars are where they’ll return, but they couldn’t be buried outside so they lie under fake stars. The spirit there is probably the last survivor, with no one left to dig them a grave when they passed

I think some small pockets survived but died out afterwards, namely by the vault. Wasteland elder is defending the vault from krill after the explosion

After. They survived the initial explostion but then krill came in and they needed to defend themselves. Look at the difference between wasteland and vault, piles of ash vs nearly untouched rows of shelves. It was not nearly as damaged in the event as the areas around it, it makes sense that the people in there survived as well

Battlefield doesn’t make too much sense otherwise, neither does the graveyards presence nor the state of vault in general

All the portals in the game are set by megabird. It is very unlikely that ancients (spirits and elders) set those portals, because if they could connect distant places with such portals, they wouldn't have needed boats. Therefore, the megabird (or her minion) was the one who set the office portal there. The office and the world of Sky are in the same universe, but not on the same planet, and ancients had never visited the office. So although things in the office won't be related to the lore of Sky world, their unrelatedness might be explained by megabird lore

I think the dark orbs were added when we had the brief ability to replay spirits

I was thinking about vault, and realised that compared with the other kingdoms, vault feels ritualistic, like we are performing actions on each of the floors here and charging the diamond / dark stone / artificial star feel like a ritual for the dark stone.
I've not fully formed my ideas about it yet, but lighting points and returning to a central "alter" to ascend feels almost like a religious act. Especially in the light of the recent tomcepts, with the stones absorbing light and making the "ancestors" (read Elders) "godly". As we ascend we finally get to a temple which contain statues of all Elders, rather than the other temples which only contain one.

So taking it to a "ritualistic" interpretation, we imagine and invoke each kingdom with each floor we ascend, (chakra/kabbalah like), adding power, and summoning each elder as a memory (as in the tomcepts, the stones we light contain memories) so we invoke the memories of each kingdom until we reach a new, literally higher plain.

I was thinking about vault, and realised that compared with the other kingdoms, vault feels ritualistic, like we are performing actions on each of the floors here and charging the diamond / dark stone / artificial star feel like a ritual for the dark stone.
I've not fully formed my ideas about it yet, but lighting points and returning to a central "alter" to ascend feels almost like a religious act. Especially in the light of the recent tomcepts, with the stones absorbing light and making the "ancestors" (read Elders) "godly". As we ascend we finally get to a temple which contain statues of all Elders, rather than the other temples which only contain one.

So taking it to a "ritualistic" interpretation, we imagine and invoke each kingdom with each floor we ascend, (chakra/kabbalah like), adding power, and summoning each elder as a memory (as in the tomcepts, the stones we light contain memories) so we invoke the memories of each kingdom until we reach a new, literally higher plain.
@cobalt palm I agree with this.. however more could have been done with vault to add to that. Have you seen the vault of knowledge in journey? It looked magical with all the magical glyphs floating around and bright sparkling lights as you ascend the levels.

Journey was developed for consoles, which is just so much more powerful than developing for mobile considering they have been optimizing it for as low as iPhone 5S and android 8 when it comes to adding stuff like that. There will be lots of choices to include things (or lack of them more often) that have to do more with the capability than lore

For example, this was how the new area in the vault looked when they first tested it in the beta, which takes an approach similar to the one mentioned from Journey. It caused devices to heat up and crash and had to be significantly reduced, and probably other internal design choices on how it ended up looking in the end

@gray ermine yes, I unfortunately didn't have a PlayStation, but watched playthroughs of Journey and Flower, and the Journey soundtrack is still one of my favourites.
I've noted in the past TGCs love for the skating level, which also appears in journey and flower, the clouds of sky are very reminiscent of Jenovas "That Cloud Game" from his student days as well as the look of the player character in cloud to the look of the skykids. Cloud also had, I believe, Vincent Diamante as primary composer, which was my favourite song to accompany a game for a very long time.

Oh yeah, idk if this version of graveyard theory was shared yet but lots of people notice how there aren’t any weapons strewn about inside the graveyard. All the battle stuff is in battlefield. From the vault mural in the cutscene it shows that you need 2 mantas for a diamond.

I kinda believe that graveyard was meant to be a holding area for large light animals, that would then be processed into power diamonds in the temple/factory where the first krill is. That’s why the catapult faces inwards... it’s not to take down other spirits or enemies. But poor big boyes

and maybe that’s also why wasteland’s vault level is so empty. Maybe someone didn’t agree with the cruelty and destroyed the records/knowledge on the process

Going back to the Diamond vs Sun emblems, no idea why I didn't mention it before, but there is 1 (5 if you count all areas) place that it also appears, and that's on the equipment wardrobe.

This could link in quite nicely to the prairie areas where we see the others, apart from on shields in wasteland, that these were spirits of artisans and troubadours, like Tolkiens elves found joy in creating, from the pots and jewellery to music and discussion, and similar to Tolkiens elves, this is what lead to their downfall (with the dark stones)

Adding the era tomconcepts from the timeline, perhaps the sun emblem represents those in the fire era, and diamond as dark stone era, as we see on the concepts of the gates, the "bird of light" symbol slowly transforms into the "king" symbol, as the bird of light represents a perfect circle and the king a diamond, (connected rounded shapes vs cursed jagged shapes) the sun emblem and diamond emblem represent similar things.

I know the old concepts are cool and what, but I don’t think they’re all that accurate to the current lore. We should be able to piece together a story from the game itself; it’s our primary source and if anything the old concepts should only supplement what we observe in game. For all we know the story tgc tells in the old concepts has changed so much that they’re just different stories at this point. Sky tells its story through the levels and elder cutscenes and thats what we should be focusing on the most to understand what happened here

Current lore/story probably has little to do with Tomcepts, actually. Its design and model-wise where I think it has the most relevance. And that's due more to the nature of the development cycle than anything.

Even before the levels and actual game "story", they knew they needed bridges and arches and shields and logos.... All the mesh stuff in game.

And when the tomcepts timeline and concepts was all they had to go on

The game now is definitely alive. It's drawing inspiration and story from itself more than any prior concept art
