I had coffee earlier so

I’ll tell u a little bit

Looking at some part of the “hidden lore in the environment” and after a while of paying attention
It’s been almost confirmed that prairie was the business realm that used boats to send pots of light to the forest realm. This realm was a forge that mixed something in the trees with the pots received from prairie to make power diamonds. These diamonds were said to be the downfall of the civilization and I forgot who said that but I think it was from a live-stream. But anyways those power diamonds were the energy used for all the future realms. It was their electricity basically and instead of supporting the life of creatures and light, they simply used their industrial power diamonds. Now Starting from forest, there were more triangular designs and this is because it represented artificial power and it was the opposite of the flowy connected feel of creatures and natural things. It said that in one of the concept arts. Also, the forest temple was basically a diamond forge, well there was another forge in wasteland almost identical to it, but only this time it’s a lot bigger

Assuming from what one of the devs said, these diamonds led to corruption
It was this technology that created the downfall of the sky kingdom

here's some canonical info which might be related to your theory:

• Devs confirmed that the 6 fallen stars in the intro cutscene were the 6 elders.
• Children of Light is officially called Children of Stars in Japanese. (I think this name led to a Japanese livestream question on whether or not the skykids would grow up to be elders. BTW the answer was no.)
• In a livestream a dev said something like the word "species" did not sound appropriate when describing how elders and spirits are different.

@humble barn ohhh! yeah the species thing doesn’t sound quite like the right word. It feels like elders/spirits/sky kids would be different categories? Like the mass and size of a star is determined by the size of the dust/gas cloud they were formed out of... so I can see why it’s not quite possible for spirits or sky kids to become elders. They’re just of a different make and will have a different growth and lifespan.

I feel like star kids are best represented by red dwarf stars (small, not as bright, atm they have very long lifespans but are in their baby stages right now in the universe ) ...or comets haha

also, i have a theory on the winged lights. winged lights are the strongest type of light, likely made of much more concentrated light than the kind that heals sky children. these winged lights strengthen the capes of sky children, and if all are lost, the sky child’s cape will be destroyed. my theory is this: so the winged lights are in random spots everywhere, right? and they’re all shaped like kids, and many of them have varying poses. well, why would they look like that if they’re just... light? my guess is that these winged lights are created when someone feels very strong emotions, and it leaves an imprint behind. to explain the lights in eden, it’s probable that strong emotions were being felt at the time, either from the terror of going into the storm or possibly the terror and the “what’s happening?” of the people who created the storm in the first place. they’re all in similar spots, so maybe they were taking shelter from the storm when the eden diamond first lost control?

I think winged light is the light from the stars that were ‘sent away’ (referenced in opening cutscene of the game). They’re probably the energy source that was used by the spirts to build the kingdom of Sky. The light was probably cleaves from the bodies, the light spreading and the bodies falling in Eden. I think Sky kids inhabit star bodies. 🤷‍♀️

Ok. I was with my friend doing wasteland and when we got to the final temple with the shield and spear, we noticed that there were 7 doorways just like at home. Also the central plinth with the headstone was arranged like a sort of burial ground. All of them actually seem like burial spots? Larger headstones and stronger memories but the same sort if echo of a civilization sort of thing. Also noticed that castle with the star up top before the caltrops barriers has markings that match the diamond headband mask cosmetic but the shield had a sun on it. Wondering about possible division among those people and wondering about how the final door in forest has both blue and gold diamonds

interesting read. like all the theories. I kept trying to wrap my head around what could have cause the big power diamond meltdown, which was originally blue 💎 in prelaunch. now i’m thinking they built a city around the focused beam of light and created the huge power diamond to power it using the beam. however, there was too much light to harness which overloaded the diamond causing it to fracture, turn red, and go into meltdown, which had a domino effect on everything outward from ground zero.

e.g. continual raining rock and storm is a result of the power overload of the fractured diamond, literally destroying the terrain around it and flinging it every which way, similar to a volcano. it’s possible the red diamond ♦️ causes corruption of everything in its vicinity due to it fracturing and now channeling an impure form of light, similar to nuclear fallout if a nuclear reactor melts down and rods aren’t contained or neutralized.

I wonder why the key to opening the portcullis to the final temple in wasteland is outside the door. It can’t have been that way during the battle. Perhaps it was built after the battle by the survivors as a quick way in to escape the now feral krill

Hmm with all of this lore I wanna share my own thoughts and opinions.

It’s mostly in the context of the fact that half of the areas are above the clouds, some like forest and wasteland are under the clouds, which can include isle as well, and the vault to which I believe is an extension of the building or stronghold we enter from wasteland. Almost as if the information inside the vault is so important is must be protected at all costs.

I also think that when you are rebirthed in eden, and you are in an endless cycle of rebirth, I feel as if that’s more of a curse than a blessing. It’s as if these sky kids are cursed to be reborn over and over again. I like to think there is an ultimate motive other than having to be reborn. Maybe the elders have different plans in mind, or maybe this is just the game mechanic.

Also non canon thingy I like to think if sky and journey ever were correlated, I thought journey would be in the future rather than the past. Just a speculation lol!

after completing 1st level, the isle constellation appears. after 2nd level, prairie. so on and so forth. starting to think each level may have some form of representation of each area. 1st level (isle), 2nd (prairie), 3rd (forest), etc.

also noticed the first 2 levels of vault use the diamond trapezoid things to power the elevator before switching to ethereal ones afterward. i thought i read somewhere about these things being used to store knowledge but them seem like portable power sources

Why isnt isle elder on the eden door?

The design explanation for that is because the same model of the Eden portal we have now was taken from the aviary. Back then, you awakened in isle and after finishing the level you would go to the aviary and hear the prophecy about getting each elder blessing to face the storm. Each level had a portal for you to visit and after you finished it, their mask would light up on the Eden gate and it would be available once all of them were lit

i think eden is a physical place like the other cities. for instance, a city similar to eden between valley and wasteland

@modern trail or maybe that is eden from a distance. no idea. since it’s called vault of knowledge tho, I assume it either literally means knowledge is stored there or it means, something along the lines of their greatest scientific achievements. the knowledge of their civilization in the form of technology. i think the top and bottom of vault are physical, and it’s possible the between levels are as well, they’re just so technologically advanced it seems like magic

what i do know is when you light torches on the 1st and 2nd levels of vault, those little blocks with diamonds come off the walls for you to light and power the elevator. so they are portable power generators in some sense, but maybe they’re used for more too

it’s possible orbit is the elders realm. tgc did say the stars that fell were the elders, and when we ascend eden we return to the stars along with all that other life. plus we’re able to interact with the elders directly in orbit

though i think our interactions with them and their world is limited in the sense that they’re these higher dimensional type beings. i’m going to assume the narrator is an elder since they’re capable of waking us (or creating) similar to how we reincarnate from orbit (elder realm)

My vote is the explosion that (probably) happened when the eye of eden power crystal exploded was akin to that of a supervolcano explosion, burying everything in ash. There’s a lot of things that are oddly buried, like boats and pots, and an event like that would wipe civilization. The whole top of the mountain got blown off!

some of my friends think that the krill never used to be dark creatures, and that only when darkness took over the world were they corrupted along with it. i agree personally, and our headcanon is basically that the krill were once golden (“golden” wasteland) but as the war broke out and the sky turned dark, they also changed to adapt.

Took some of you guys’ ideas and added some of my own. Heres some theories.

@stuck wave the “fallout”/corruption extends past wasteland and eden. I think that’s why forest has acid/toxic rain, and it might actually be closer to wasteland rather than looking at portal setup with valley next door.

order of corruption: eden > wasteland > forest > prairie > valley

I list valley last as I don’t recall ever seeing any dark plants there, oil, etc.

I think they just order the portals the way they are to convey the emotions and ages they talk about in their interviews. I think the actual world of sky is different on a map.

I’m still not 100% sure if krills are natural or man made. In Journey, we see creatures which behave identically to krill which were technological constructs. it’s possible the ground ppl had these as well and they were corrupted in the eden event. similar to the guardians perhaps sky ppl used cosmic whales or mantas to fashion their guardians which would explain why they emit a call like mantas and other creatures when they attack. Another note, I actually kinda put that Valley screencap as a tease. Because yes, there are/were multiple paths/load points that lead to different areas for the final leg of the race, and they are still in the game, fairly fleshed out. Just very, very dark.
