That used to be the old entrance to eden! There was a constellation gate where the transition to eden lobby is now, and you would cross to this area and become flightless. The arch would tell you to go back to aviary and group up for eden

Stars look like they have same form as us. It’s probably not a correct theory, but I’ve always liked playing with the idea that they were the past lives of Sky children. We have the mortality of a Phoenix and can’t die for good, yet we clearly see ourselves shatter in Eden along with many statues that also resemble our form. I’ve always just had the personal theory that they were past lives or something.

Yeah, Sky could be played without ever going into Eden. Eden is a choice that the player consciously makes, you can’t go into it by accident. There’s a star gate, a giant door, and a warning.

the big red thing gushing rocks is a diamond, much like the ones we see powering the elder's tech throughout the game, only it's been corrupted. In concept art shown in the latest Japanese livestream you can see that it used to be held in a tower before it went kabloom, these statues are in the final area of Eden (at least I think that's what that sketch shows).

The “prince” they mean is the prince of Eden.
I believe in the Eden constellation you see in vault, the figure depicted is the king, the first to become corrupted.
Which would also explain this:
So I think it could be assumed that the person speaking to us at the beginning is the prince of Eden.
As he seems to not only not be corrupt, but be in control of a giant entity of light capable of giving you another life.
This is the Eden constellation shown in the Vault cutscene:
Which would also mean that the prince could be in control of our existence in general.

The dark plants look like Venus flytraps to me. I think these dark plants consume the light butterflies and other light creatures. The glowing blue orbs are like bait for the butterflies. Burning the plants releases the light energy.

- I rewrote the summary on the symbols on pyramids, and added a row (prairie ramp) to the list of pyramids. (Probably there are more I missed!)
- Removed descriptions on "haloes on top" because at the moment they seem to be non-linguistic decorations. I left the descriptions on the paintings which appear over the symbols.

- I saw ginsy already posted photos of the forehead plate of the vault elder. Recently my sister also noticed the same text, together with scripts in the vault cutscene and on the forehead plate which we can purchase from the Telekinesis spirit in Vault. (Gee I never noticed them myself!) They look significantly different from the engravings on golden octagonal pyramids, so I made a separate document on them with screenshots and some notes. I haven't transcribed the texts. I may do so but am not sure because the images are not clear enough.

Semi-serious about the ghost ship - in the beta there was a boat that carried you around, and a while ago somebody who played the beta was talking about it - and mentioned that the boat still exists but is invisible! It can (or recently could at least) be ridden too, think you need 2 people to activate it. There was a screenshot of somebody riding it 🙂

Took a look at Journey today because I couldn’t remember much about the mechanical krill but after going back it’s interesting to see how tgc designed the levels and got me thinking about Sky
The light in that mountain was very clearly natural and makes me think in Sky it’s definitely something man made and not harnessed then subsequently broken
And the elders in that clearly tell the story of “this is how we grew and fell” but in Sky our elders seem to say “this is our society”
So I don’t think the elders are telling a story in sequence, Wasteland seems to be part of the defence against the darkness/krill
Like krill are attracted to Eden because of its proximity to orbit (the first place the darkness would look) and wasteland is second closest
As for vault, the vault in Journey is a clear functional elevator/vault but in Sky I think the Vault diamond is used as part tesseract part holodeck
The first two floors are physical but after that point it’s folded space
Which would mean floors 3-6 are stored within the vault diamond ✨

theres two types of shields seen in battlefield so i thought that they had like a civil war-type of thing instead of krills

Here’s some food for thought. The Wasteland elder seems to be the general of an army, right? This implies that there was a war in the wasteland at one point. We don’t know who or what they declared war on, but considering that the only actual danger to life in the realm of Sky are the Krill, it wouldn’t be illogical to assume that they declared war on them. The spirits declared war on the Krill, and lost.

Long ago, our government declared war on Emus after they spiked in population and expanded their territory, often invading private farmland and controlled territory. They’d attack people, trample and eat farmers’ crops, just cause a disturbance in general. The Australian government didn’t like that, neither did the citizens who fell victim to those oversized chickens. The government hired gunmen to kill the Emus, but as it turns out, they’re relatively tough creatures. We ended up biting off more than we could chew, wasted more ammunition than we could afford and only ended up with a few Emus dead. We lost.

I think the darkness around the Praire bells is feeding on the Flame within the technology

And then there’s the darkness in wasteland that nearly completely ate that group of butterflies
Another day or two (in Sky’s timeline) and I think if we burnt that plant it’d only release light and no butterflies
So darkness plants canon eat: manta and butterflies, I think the darkness definitely ate the crying spirits because they’re trapped on both sides by darkness and there’s those two big plants on top, one branch for each of the crying spirits friends and the other smaller plant for the crying spirit herself

A light shines on us and the door to vault opens at least just from the wasteland elder going “IM POINT AT THE SKY DOES IT LOOK DRAMATIC”

the emote sequence skips over the death of two spirits and cuts away to the crying spirit and the guy trapped in the dark plant

after the third guy dies, presumably consumed by the darkness another rock appears in the middle

To me it’s more plausible that the plants were indirectly responsible for their deaths, or rather getting frozen by the darkness
Since the plants never actually deal damage to the sky kids but they do flourish in toxic environments and are only affected by light. Rather than growing from the light they shrink in its presence and get purified, but if they have a limited amount of it like in the machines, then it would shut it down by using up all of the light and grow back to the way it was before
What I find interesting is that the spirits are the only one in the group that consistently survive. I think that the others in the group might be a mortal race like humans that died off long before the spirit became frozen. The stones might just be their graves the spirit made before they were frozen themselves.

Because we really don't see the plants digesting the creature of light they caught. They're always still alive and lively when we release them. (I am not sure about the spirit's mate in the sequence, he might have been eaten by the plant.)
But it's also possible that we are just always there in time to burn the plant before it consumes the prey.

Random thought: Maybe the spirits had slowly evolved, increased their technology, up to a limit. They wanted to ascend further, so they built whatever the diamond in Eden is... and it's a kind of amplifier. It'll make them stronger, smarter, maybe god-like. But then there was a disagreement of some sort. And the disagreement was amplified, until it became war, the two sides pushed apart until they were opposites - light and dark. Each side saying "if only they had listened".

They definitely don’t seem to belong there, but whatever pierced them there seems to have done a very clean job of it. I thought the krill in journey were related for ages until I went back and took a look, the elders in Journey are identical to each other in shape size and clothing and do different things than in Sky
In Journey the elders tell you how life, and their civilisation, rose and fell. In Sky they show us culture. The krill in Journey are scattered in pieces across every level, very mechanical, and are where we release creatures of cloth from (the Journey civilisation appears to have put the essence of light, which manifests as a single cuneiform, into cloth to make the cloth creatures) and even@above we see the mecha krill put away in both active and inactive storage (the glowing eyes are krill head inside active storage, the pillar shudders, the heads move, then the eyes glow)
Journey krill also act differently, if they see you that’s it no hiding they WILL eat you, and if you’re hiding inside say, a dead mecha krill it’ll headbutt the broken piece and smash it to pieces and eat you. Krill lose sight of us and go through things instead of breaking them, shipwreck excluded but that would have been the biggest krill in game, like this size:

In my book of world building 101 if your world has multiple leviathan class beasts in it you’ve made A BLOODY GOOD WORLD, krills that big for me would make Sky closer to Journey on the scale of omg how good is this game it’ll change yur life mate, but that’s just me anyways

I dreamt there was lore about an orb in one of the spirits stories and thought “ooh that’s perfect for what the king is holding” but I don’t know what it was urgh. The king might be holding a spirit? Like how the kids turn into floating orbs in eden, or the spirits turn into orbs after being freed

These are the mushrooms That were most likely modified. They seem to have spores that are concentrated light. They attract towards sky kids and generally behave in the same regenerative fashion as all of the other friendly creatures in Sky
This is the most similar kind of growth. The black spots on the plant here are similar to what forms on bodies after they “die” by the darkness so it is most likely solidified darkness that is flaking off in the presence of light.
The leakage of darkness is much more obvious here with the bigger plants. You can also see blue particles of light leaching off of the sky kids and into the light that is contaminating the water

today i learned krills can actually hurt spirits
no surprise but i certainly was when i was doing the daily spirit and the krill glitched (the light was blinking blue and red) causing it hit the spirit when it was hiding behind a wall in front of the tiny space with a lamp

I’d also say that the krill and whales have very different shapes, whale shaped like an egg and krill like a spiky noodle
You know how sky kids are drawn to the light shrooms and creatures with some sort of force like magnetism? Either that’s a Force with a capital F like gravity or it’s for ease of gameplay. While I lean towards the latter, presuming the former that might be what’s keeping the broken Eye of Eden together and making it wiggle like that, the balance between light atttacting and the explosive energy bursting from the broken cracks

Well, the Forest temple door gives us our first real piece of “found” lore, blue and yellow lights combined to make diamonds, yellow from pots (butterflies) and blue from/around trees. Maybe the crystals form out of the purified darkness liquid. But then why only Eden OH wait that’s simple
Often catalysts are needed to make crystals, something to start the reaction like a vinegar mother
So a small piece of the Eye/red hail might have been the catalyst for the red crystals?

Hello all! [Oops, Wall Warning] I was just reading up on stars, and in particular their birth and death and found some particularily exciting information that may or may not (probably) have already been said ^-^ I'll provide the link to the information at the bottom <3
According to NASA, "If a white dwarf is close enough to a companion star, its gravity may drag matter - mostly hydrogen - from the outer layers of that star onto itself, building up its surface layer. When enough hydrogen has accumulated on the surface, a burst of nuclear fusion occurs, causing the white dwarf to brighten substantially and expel the remaining material. Within a few days, the glow subsides and the cycle starts again." The sharing of essential matter specifically reminds me of how the sky children can gather light from one another when in close contact. It resembles the process of collecting winged lights and reaching higher wing levels. When the article goes into detail on how at a certain point the said stars burst, expelling the remaining materials I couldn't help but think of Eden of course and the inevitable death your sky child must endure. Especially so when they say "the cycle starts again" much like how our characters are rebirthed anew.
Secondarily, I found that, "The dust and debris left behind by novae and supernovae eventually blend with the surrounding interstellar gas and dust, enriching it with the heavy elements and chemical compounds produced during stellar death. Eventually, those materials are recycled, providing the building blocks for a new generation of stars and accompanying planetary systems." What better could describe the cycle in which the sky children give their light to the lost ones in order to essentially reincarnate them alongside yourself.
Just wanted to share! For me at least, it seems to explain why a lot of aspects of the game are so dependently social. Stars themself are interdependent on other stars for both their death and birth, and in some cases, rebirth. The info just fueled my love for this game ^-^ and brought and entirely new level of intensity to the act of making friendships in game and exploring or even surviving together. My apologies for my explanation being so long, I couldn't put my full appreciation into words very well lol]
