i think it's similar to us humans being able to recognize people by their voices or what their specific features are, much like being able to tell friends apart by the cosmetics they use even if they have very similar names

Like because spirits can interact with the world and come down when they please it also means that death in sky isint a mystery like irl. Like you know where you’ll go, and yeah dying is still bittersweet but you arnet gone forever, you can still come down from the sky to visit your loved ones.

Ah and the fact the gravestones are in social spaces too, and are scattered around and not uniform makes me so happy too. It’s like they chose where they wanted to be buried, some closer and some far away.

Ah and the fact The Valley elders have gravestones lining their temple too? Makes me see how they honor death similar to the 8 player door. Just, i love it so much!!

What I’ve observed is that it seems like a mask gaining ritual (the kids seem to start with no masks and all end up with one presumably through quests), seeing that masks carry an importance in sky, it does seem like an important rite of passage, especially for isle

I personally believe isle is more spiritual, especially based on the tomcept that has isle have a more natural appearance and closer ties to spirituality, while its a tomcept i think it hold a lot of weight in canon and is just an easy explanation

especially in comparison to valley, as ash has said the students in performance have training masks, theyre not fully fledged performers and they had made their own, it seems more of a honing of craft and skill, and while its own rite of passage, it seems less like a spiritual journey and more of scholary one, graduating as they put it

its interesting to see how realms traditions can vary so much in something simple as masks, how one is gained, making one vs earning one in a rite of passage

Yeah this all makes a lot of sense!!! As I was reading this post I was also thinking about the Assembly scouts & their masks, which seem to be modeled after the lightseekers; although we don’t get as much information on how exactly they were created they could definitely help with speculating about different mask rituals through the realms!

I like to headcanon that the tower on top of vault scholars’ masks is a similar concept, where students have their own masks but gain the extra special tower after they graduate, although that detail is foggier

Yea!! I like that a lot! Especially with remembrance guide having adepts mask, which is based off of Vault Elders mask and they all seem to be leader-y of sorts, like adept has two vault scholars with them they seem to be guiding around, it seems to indicate a sort of proficiency to me, their name being adept, vault elder being the elder, a remembrance guide being a guide, and especially with their ties to memory cubes, vaults central feature

Abyss are the only seasonal spirits from Wasteland we meet — the Enchantment spirits seem to be from another place and crash landed — and from what we can tell of their masks, they seem to purposefully accentuate damage to them. Cannoneer’s face is painted around the edge of their broken mask, Angler painted the cracks in their mask blue, and outside of the season, Wounded Warrior — most likely from Wasteland as well — continues to wear a visibly damaged mask.

I like to think that showing off how much you’ve been through and how it’s made you who you are today, using your scars and the very unique damage to the mask that represents your identity, as a medium is Wasteland’s equivalent of getting your own special mask when you graduate or grow up or whatnot. It may have stemmed from many Wasteland spirits not having the resources to get new masks when theirs were damaged by the things that happened on a daily basis in wartime Wasteland, and slowly that damage became marks of pride that showed who they were as people and how much they had survived, like a performer’s specialized bird mask showing their skill and experience in their field

The spirits theorized of a Chosen One who would show themselves if they completed the Trials. Many flocked to the Cave, including the Crew. They befriended the Prophets and received their powers in the form of the Enchantment Lights. The Piggyback Spirit sees this and forms the , whose goal is to find and use the Enchantment Lights. The Guide saw the Red Light and wanted to use it for their plays, but the Enchantment Crew refused. So, they found a group of young actors and formed a stage that emulated the Enchantment Light’s powers. With all 3 groups in Valley, the Performance Actors befriended the and folk, who were inspired to pursue music and skating respectively. Conflict was formed between the Prophecy, Lightseekers, and Enchantment groups, causing the Prophecy Cave to be sealed off, the Lightseekers group to split, and the Enchantment Crew to move to Wasteland. Also in Isle are the spirits, who are rivals with the Prophets. They are prideful of the Fortune Dragon. Meanwhile, the Laidback Pioneer finds a bunch of children and mentors them, helping them form the scouts. They were friends with the family, with them being close to each other. The spirits didn’t like them both, seeing them as destructive.

Also going back to forest a bit, if we hc lightseekers are from forest it seems a lot of their masks focus on being flat but painted alongside assembly, flight spirits dont have individual painted masks but they do have the painted diamond version of the basegame mask, i think sanctuary is difficult to pinpoint a mask style on? since we only have bellmaker, dockworker, sunbather and grouch masks, but i think with forest being so close and having a similar tradition of mostly flat masks, i think prairie is the same, with masks for utility like dockworkers and glasses to shield from the sun for sunbather, maybe sort of like lumberjack in forest, i see the realms being alike, especially with flight being a sortof bridge between the two

i can see painted masks being popular in forest, as it seems like a realm focused a lot on craftsmanship with forest elder being a blacksmith, i think painting is pretty popular as its a skill

Had I not read the addition of it being a joke theory at the end, I would have dissected that whole message to learn how you managed to make all these connections.
Just when I thought the lore in Sky has evolved so much that we were able to make this many strong connections with the various season spirits.

On a serious note, it is very interesting to see connections forming with the season spirits through the days of events.
With day of Sunset, we have Assembly taking president in the Forest, we may see another season joining them in the future. That is my prediction.

Days of Fortune had Seasons of Gratitude and Enchantment make appearances. Not to mention the recent days of Bloom where Seasons of Lightseekers and Enchantment collaborating. Albeit in a subtle way with the lightseekers sneakily greeting the guide of Enchantment.

We have seen TGC make this king of cheeky banter before. Therefore, we would be foolish to overlook them similar to the teaser added in the Performance music hall.
Which leads to these two seemingly disconnected seasons revealed to be much stronger with the guides related to each other.

And lastly, Days of Feast had season of Belonging's guide (granny) passively collab with season of Dreams. Even though this interaction was not as blatant, though more like TGC adding the Dreams crew to the granny event. It would be interesting to see if TGC may have the spirits interact with each other more often as they have recently been doing.

The new season of passage had me looking at masks more often.
It has been an interesting search to say the least. There are several cultures around the world that made use of masks.
Most of which collate (collectively lead to) into the idea of masks representing an identity. Be it one that represents a person, animal, spirit, or abstract concepts (ex. emotions).

Notable cultures that came up during my search included Mesopotamia, Egyptian, Korean, Japan, South American and North American cultures. Most notably African masks, which interestingly are indirectly the origin of voodoo masks.

While there are many cultures at play here, I am fascinated at how TGC may have done research on most of these ancient histories, and used them as influences in their own lore of Sky. A hybrid that parodies human civilisations. The good and the bad sides (though mostly good as far as one would see on the surface, while the darker lore is literally and figuratively left in the shadows. Waiting for those who know where to look and how to seek them out.)

Been thinking but like speaking of masks, I’m thinking of like what makes elder masks diffrent from the others, cuz the only connection I can think of is them being gray.

What’s funny enough is that prophecy masks are the only ones who also has a gray color, aside from the colors seen on all. Which interests me as the season also ties 5 of the 7 elders into its story.
Every other mask from that is like closer to black, brown, orange, or like a cream color and more but like never gray besides prophecy.

Digging in color theory but grey IS associated with being neuteral, in the middle as it’s not overtly on one side or the other. Which I say is a good thing Ifyour technically an overseer/ruler of a realm, being able to listen both sides and choose accordingly, though this does fall apart considering how extreme darkstone production got. But it also symbolizes boredom and bleakness. A shade that at its best is associate with middle ground, and it’s worst to put the mood of a more sadder time. Which would work well to describe the elders condition: dull and bleak after being trapped in a sort of limbo after the kingdom fell.

But yeah just thinking. Because if ancestors can have the same headpieces as elders, and masks can tell one’s profession, just makes me wonder why the elders masks are so special beside the face that wears it.

We know he played some large role in the history of Sky, but we have pretty much nothing on him. In the concepts he was the Eden Elder gone mad with power and became corrupted after coming in contact with darkstone/the darkness, but in the live game we have no idea where he is. For what it is the devs have said that he is in the game, just in a way we didn't expect.

And knowing there was a war that caused it to spread and leave everything in ruin it’s certain that it’s the case

How exactly do we know that the war caused it to spread? Wasteland is rife with pollution and there's evidence that it was a producer/supplier of darkstone. It's more likely that the darkness spreading was not caused by the war, but instead the war was the result of it. Think about it. Polluted water and soil would leave crops unable to grow and make anyone who drank it sick. Runoff into the sea would kill all life in it, meaning no food from there. Valley has the highest darkstone usage of all the realms, meaning the people of Wasteland would effectively be killing their home by continuing to supply them darkstone.

Let me try to understand what you’re saying and try to make sense through your logic

In where it could’ve ran off into the sea from Valley and where the soil couldn’t grow and cause people to be sick like the spirit memory in Abyss depicted

However if this was the case why doesn’t it also affect places like Dawn for example? As shown in the Nintendo release trailer it shows life colorization and lush in the Dawn however there is no sign of darkness in the actual sand or in the water

And your theory could hold true in what is shown in Forest as rain is form mostly by condensation from the ocean however it only affect certain parts of the forest and seeing how all of it is connected wouldn’t it not make sense for the entire place to be affected by the rain? And on top of that you can stop the rain so it isn’t necessarily anything scientific beside this is Sky there are flying mantas and jellyfish we can’t exactly put realism in a game with kids that evolved to fly and are made of light

On top of that speaking of oceans we can look at Sanctuary apart of Prairie that could be affected by the darkness in said run off as it, if we use your explanation could, be affected greatly in their oceans by the darkness rain and run off from Forest however it only blooms in plants which caused the crabs to feed off of it and slowly over the time became evil that’s why there are so many crabs in Wasteland caused are evil because they are surrounded by it

Now we don’t know for certain that that the war was the main source of the darkness yes but what I am saying it did cause it to spread faster and in rapid rates it was an attack on the people and the elders of the light and constellations and that this darkness was born from Eden

As you even stated before that the King ran mad with power what I’m saying is the King created the darkness as seen in game not they created darkness itself and the fact you said they were a big part of the lore it is clear to believe they created the war on the people as well drove mad with power

Elders tried to destroy it but the destructive nature of the Eden crystal was too much for them and they were being overwhelmed by its power which was causing them to be propelled away from the crystal

That’s completely fair! It baffles me too; the best interpretation I’ve seen is Fish’s, where he imagines it like a reflection of what’s inside the diamond, although it’s a struggle to figure out what it means beyond that. It’s just sort of there. It doesn’t help that the shape in question is a motif associated with an extremely up to interpretation character so we have to figure out if it’s associated with them or different (kind of like the wasteland turrets) and if so why… and so on.

Blue Eden is an OOB area in the game, back when it was called Light Awaits.
There is footage of it posted in the lore chat by Miriam, who were one of the few skykids who managed to find the place.

Basically, it is a supposed final area in Eden, were the skykids could have found the elders and some ancestors trapped in stone statues. Seemingly frozen in time amidst a restless and violent Storm.
The realm back then used to be called Storm as well.

Blue Eden is mostly a nickname of this place. There is a theory about Blue Eden being brought back from Light Awaits as one of the Memories in Season of Shattering.
Some of the elders in that area are most likely the same one you would have found in the Blue Eden area. Except for Forest elder.
This is because the Forest elder's model was allegedly not finalised at that time, so the model for them were missing. The one in the Shattering memory is the only updated model of the Elder, whole the others look a bit 'fragmented'.

The Scene in the concept art (attached for those who would like to see), has Boss fight energy. The Colossal King trapped at the top of the mountain, fighting a massive dark creatures lurking in the clouds. A small flicker of light from a lone skykid desperately trying to reach the King.

All of that, just to be lost in a massive explosion. Then falling.
Lost to the void, you supposedly become a child of darkness (you lose your light). Then you meet a spirit, or being of Light that represents the lost Prince of Sky (who, as far as I know, has not made any appearance in the concept art outside of Eden). The Prince helps the Skykid, as well as their friends.

Together, they ascend from the King's body and reach Orbit (the after life).

I vaguely recall a list of animals that were given medals of awards for their roles in the war.
Some were horses, dogs, pigeons, and even a cat was involved.

In Sky's terms, a manta being taken down in a war may have been seen as a terrible loss. Not only because of its ability to fly, but also the bond the manta may have shared with its rider (as seen in the scene where we look at petrified memories of ancestors grieving).

It is worth noting that some of Tom Zhao's concept are being considered as it seems.
Either because:
A - These were visualised concepts that were part of the lore by of the TGC staff.
B - Tom Zhao was not the only concept artist who has shared some art of Sky. Which means other older concept have the potential of coming back in some form, or another.
C - A strong example of this would be the flying spirits we see teased in the Season of Passage trailer. There were concept art, Light Awaits beta footage, and interviews that mentioned these spirits being what the ancestors could have appeared as at one point. Now it seems like these abstract spirits have returned to serve a different purpose.

This means, the concept art may be old, and in some cases outdated.
However, us lore theorists, fan writers, or fans in general do not have to discourage a person from looking to them for ideas or theories.

Besides, the lorechat can make use of the down time for fan theories instead of waiting for the next lore nugget to drop from the Sky.

The war is a heavily theorized section of the sky lore, since we have details, but not all/said as fact

The war in wasteland has 2 main sides, one under the sun emblem, the other the diamond emblem. People theorize the war likely had to do with the darkstone industry, (darkstone being those gems you light up to open doors) especially with the practices seen in Warrior of Love’s Concert scene, capturing mantas, and based on details in abyss, to use their light. The practices likely put the balance of light and dark out of order, and factories in wasteland were producing pollution, especially with the mass ammount of pipes present in the realm.

It is likely that these practices that harmed the environment, and including those who live there. With worsening living conditions and treatment of the ecosystem, tensions rose— however darkstone had also provided great strives in technological advancement as seen throughout the various machinery ingame, benefiting people greatly. This likely causing the division in viewpoints,

While the main realm effected was Wasteland, the other realms might’ve been involved in some way (not just going off of leaked/unofficial content) as seen with Vault taking in refugees, and Valley theorized to be involved, with Bowing Medalist being a spirit in Slouching Soldiers memory, the idea that Wasteland used to be called Golden Valley in concepts, Valley has a lot of darkstone usage in the flying race, and that they’re neighbor realms

While we see the ruins of a battle, it seems that during the war there was also sieges and similar as shown during Remembrance, while Veteran and Warrior depict those more affected by the direct battle, Child and Teamaker seem to represent citizens affected, with Teamaker sneaking past guards

The conflict involved creatures too, as in Seed of Hopes concert we see that Mantas are involved, and in their quest the Krill gets involved

Unfortunately we don’t have exact details for the Valley Elders with the war, so that’s more heavy theory/headcanon territory, but Ik some people with some theories on their involvement!

it was likely Wasteland elder was on the side of the sun faction, at least at the end, since they’re seen with a sun emblem shield in their cutscene and against their altar. Theres ideas that they weren’t always due to their shield resembling more of the diamond one in their vault mural, however the vault mural also depicts valley elders way differently design wise so it’s a little hard to say. As well the turrets skewing opinions on their allegiance.

But personally I like to believe they were on the sun side, a defender of their people and those who lived in it, especially since their mask resembles that of a whale, which we see on the way to wasteland, as well it’s suspected that the large bones are from whales in wasteland, meaning there was a lot more beforehand.

So if the species their mask is associated with is dying due to the poor environmental conditions, I can see them trying to protect them. I think their hair resembling the back of a krill is to represent the corruption the realm faces, there’s a hc their hair used to resemble more of a whale before everything :(
But that’s just my take on things!

–this hollow shell is full of light, such as winged light and neutral light.
–their cape, a manifestation of winged light.

Concept art suggests that skykids are a hybrid of Ancestors and the Light (or a hybrid of Light and Darkness)
There were several theories on skykids ranging from being the descendants of Ancestors (that can also be seen suggested in concept art), to them being golems (or personally theorise they are like Pinocchio), or even a star with a waxy shell for a body.

It is an interesting theory to explore.

The story and lore nuggets in Aurora is very much part of the main canon of Sky. All while some parts of it is naturally excluded as part of how a collab works.
Meaning, while Aurora herself may not be canon to the lore of Sky. What she represents is canon.

for the same reasons i’ve already said, i wouldn’t take the song queendom to mean anything about a queen either. she is a real person, and the music in the concert was not specifically meant for sky. like queendom is a song about accepting people who don’t feel accepted, the seed is about climate change, they worked them into the story but i wouldn’t take their lyrics too seriously lore wise because the songs themselves are not, on their own, about the lore of the game

also, she’s related to sky in that she made some of the music, she’s not a character and it’s ok if her being there is a 4th wall break

Aurora was telling the story from a unique perspective.

Just to gloss over the concert.
Aurora established herself being as "I once was a thing before I was a human being", "I was the tree before it fell." "The Ice before the melts."
And in the scene, she appeared as a fragment of light that morphs into various things. Light creatures, a tree, herself and each one fell to the darkness.

While most of the songs were written before the season collab. There are notable connections we can draw from them to Sky.
That the wold of Sky was once serene and balanced. Then it became corrupted by darkness.

Based on several theories and personal opinions, Aurora may represent the Light itself (capitalisation intended), or the Megabird (the being made of Light in Sky, also called the Bird of Light).

Aurora is shown rising up as a spiritual being with 2 pairs of wings (which was 1 pair earlier in the concept and then none. Which implied Aurora's metamorphosis or subtle reference to reincarnation/rebirth in Sky).

She is the one whose voice we hear at the start of the game, as well as the end. We also hear her in Orbit very softly when there are vocalisations. It is therefore implied that Aurora represents many things in Sky, though most of them are related to Orbit.
Which happens to be the domain of the Megabrid.

I would not think viridian's thoughts are a leap.
And their opinions are just as valid.

I have 2 headcanons that I think would make you feel better tac. 1st is that now that Skids are visiting the Elder temples and offering each Elder light they have enough power to ascend to Orbit and can reunite with all of their people there. 2nd is that Guides can ascend to Orbit at any time after we complete their respective Season's quests and see their friends and loved ones, it's just that they choose to stay because they want to make sure the Skids have a friendly face to 'talk' to whenever they pass by.

My guess is that Passage is put in Isle for thematic reasons! As the realm originally themed after early childhood, and the closest thing Sky has to a ‘tutorial’ realm, Isle has many elements relating to guidance and learning how to live. We’re told the basic plot, taught many mechanics, given the first opportunity to fly on our own, and guided to Eden by Dawn all in Isle. It makes sense that Passage, a season about four younger spirits learning to find their place in the world, would take place in Isle as well to mirror this.

Most (if not all) seasons have a basic theme and are placed in realms accordingly; Bea pointed this out a while ago and I haven’t been able to not notice it since.

Flight is also sort of a Prairie season; it definitely seems to share more possible themes and ties with Prairie than Forest. Based on that and Sanctuary, I would assume that Prairie’s theme would be something along the lines of living in harmony with light creatures.

Passage stands out to me because they’re the first group of spirits outright stated to be nomadic. While this may be true for other seasons as well, we don’t know for sure, and I’d love to know how they traveled through the realms & what larger community they’re all a part of!

Time will most likely tell how this works, but focusing on the stars aspect, I wonder how this group’s traditions would’ve been affected with the ‘stars falling’ disaster we keep hearing about. I also am thinking about Ushering Stargazer, who is also found in Isle and is very interested in the stars

After some discussion I & friends have realized that not only does one of the passage spirits look a suspicious amount like both Stargazer & the kid in Candlemaker’s memory, but all the other adolescent spirits look visibly like at least one of the isle spirits.

Appears One of the reasons I think the moon will play a role this upcoming seasons probably stems from several things relating both the moon and stars:
Stars

• In general, helps various species navigate routes and where to go (This can be seen in both humans and turtles)
• Different clusters of stars and even constellations can tell the time, or at least the month due to which ones are appearing during where you are
• Stars are thought to be animal guides by some groups of people, especially the Northern/Southern Lights (although not the same things but they play similar roles)
  Moon
• The main thing with tides (We do have areas with water and even the Abyss area)
• Can be significant with the changing of season or even the changing of self (different moon phases and even moon events like Lunar Eclipse, Blood Moon, Harvest Moon, Blue Moon, etc.)
• There could be something we have yet to know about the moon in this upcoming season that we don't know yet

So... We know each realm represents a stage in life... But do we have any insight on the architecture and inspiration of the builds in each realm?

Just like how the realms represent a stage in human life, the realm’s architecture represents a stage in the life of a civilization.

Isle’s is incredibly simple, with little more than temporary structures and caves to live in.

Daylight Prairie has heavy Buddhist influences with the Buddhist prayer wheels in Sanctuary Island and stupas in the villages. However, the architecture is still in its infancy, with more complex structures being rarely seen.

The Hidden Forest has fancier architecture like treehouses, houses with rooms, and bridges, LOTS of bridges. It’s likely based on the classical/medieval time period in real life.

The Valley of Triumph’s most impressive architecture is the very clearly Roman Colosseum. The houses are also fancier, having gold being placed in the buildings itself.

Most of Wasteland’s architecture is heavily deteriorated, but there are still industrial/modern fortresses and factories.

Vault’s architecture is very futuristic, with technology beyond even current humanity’s level.

Closest thing I think I've ever made to a dark skykid is a skid that tried to uncorrupt crabs and krill and well, it's the case of Icarus but instead of flying too close to the sun they flew too close to darkness and paid sorely for it

It’s a thought but many haven’t attempted it because it’s painful for the skids and as a result of their corruption, they’re hungry for light and can be hostile, so it’s hard to keep them still. At best, to uncorrupt them, they have to go to Eden, die, and be reborn into a fresh body. That’s difficult to do, of course, so most skykids just leave candle cakes for corrupted skykids to keep them satiated

Iyinol (the said close-ish dark skykid) is very under-developed compared to my other skykids since I made them mostly as the final piece to a part of a set group of sky kids. I've stated previously that they spent time with dark creatures to try undo the darkness and ultimately failing in some accident I've yet to come up with. The group I made them a part of are the "new prophets" in my little version of sky in my head. Iyinol is meant to sort of replace the Earth prophet and so them being unable to fly also serves a sort of narrative purpose in the fact that they're tethered to the ground

Could be something Zuambu embarks on after seeing the lightseekers revitalize the Ark. they realize later that some of the light plants are a food source for corrupted skykids, keeping those skids passive

I think for the purpose of what in writing, considering the relationship between the king and the elders as they seemed to have worked together and banished isle elder together, that it was a regrettable act of defense for the people.

I like to think the kind was too far gone in his delusion of power and slowly some of the elders turned on him, the elder of the golden wastes included who helped charge the rebellion.

I feel the conflict that occured in the golden wasteland both man fighting and man fighting dark dragons was the catalyst for the kinds death. Both the wasteland elder and the king were there fighting with the people, and a fetal strike was blown, too late for the inevitable shattering happened before the elders could stop it
