If you mean Ascended Candles/red candles:
If you have saved all 63 statues, you'll have to wait for Eden to reset first.
If you have some statues not saved yet, you can go back in to save them! 
The maximum no. of AC is 15.75.
If you mean normal/regular white candles:
It's reset daily at 00:00 PST. Just touch all the flying ancestor spirits and single flying friends while you are flying as a golden Skykid on your way to Orbit 
It can total up to 2 candles.

I wonder if this changes the narrative, it sort of looks like the yin and yang coming together, suggesting the sky kid is a hybrid creature.
A bit like the elders to creatures, light to darkness and perhaps show the sky kids could be corrupted in part.

yeah, because that ties into your whole idea about "yin and yang coming together", rather than meeting "the original child of light" -- it's a question of if we're meeting the original entity who left behind all the winged light imprints we've been gathering in the story, or if it's more like a forgotten/lost side of our own sky kid
because i don't think the winged light children are exactly our heights, they seem to have their own fixed one

Maybe (if it is not a bug) it could imply that the sky kid is a hybrid of the ancestors and creatures (pure but advanced) and also suggesting the sky kid is also affected by some form of corruption.
Something like when offering a hug to the light kid, you sort of accept the darkness in yourself before moving on.

took my friend through eden last night. they needed ac and had only been once before a long time ago, and i've been much more frequently.
after much of me saying 'it's your fault if my messing up dooms us both', we imnediately cross the first rock section and they get hit by rocks i couldn't see. of course!
eventually, though, we do it. one krill, one moth that stuck with us, me terrifying them through that one rock section you can only sprint through hitless if you're crazy enough to try it, and lots of them annoying me later, and we were at the point of no return.
it was sweet, us sticking together throughout sacrifice and the end. we spent probably 10 minutes just. talking. before we left our lil safe spot. i waited for 'em in orbit, and we flew to the stars together.
yes, they didn't realise we had to save the statues until i told them when we were sheltering in the continuous rock section, so we are gonna have to go again... but still. great fun

No, it's just a glitch that happens... the best thing to do is to try to all die at the same time, less chance of reviving that way
The reason why it does that is because people are around that are still alive. However it can also happen when everyone died, happened to me before where my friend would die and I would revive and when I would die he would revive and looped like that www

every statue you save is 1/4th of a candle, so you'll need to save 8 statues to get 2 AC in eden.

oh! for that, you just need to fly into as many spirits as possible when you're flying with them in orbit, to get 2 full candles, you probably need to have all the spirits including the ones from past seasons tho

the disappointment i experienced when i unlocked all the stuff before the pink cape then found out after i unlocked all that stuff that it was 40 hearts
