Trying to address people glitching into the Office is a never-ending arms race, unfortunately. This is just the latest measure in that effort. I only pointed it out in the beta updates channel so that you all could focus your testing energies on it. This likely won't be included in the Live patch notes because we don't want to draw unnecessary attention to it.

Would be interesting to see how many of the so called "offenders" are legitimate cape owners. Based on my experience many players have the cape - they just don't want to change outfit or simply like going oob (glitching). The barrier encourages "to earn the trust of another player to gain entry", so I bring friends in the legitimate way. Nevertheless, when my Skyfriends see the price (as the cape bundle is only visible once in the Office), they don't buy it. Most of them don't even bother going back to the office at all.

why offer the cape by itself? it's a founder's pack, and these things usually cost a decent amount of money. almost any game you play that has a founder's pack will at least be at a somewhat high price. it's a way to support the company. the candles should and need to be there to be enticing, and as a thank you for buying the pack in the first place.

We don’t have enough player data, reports and analytics like TGC do to judge this decision. If they made the change they surely had a good reason to, and like Ktjn said it’s only the latest effort to stop this problem

It's about player experience. Many players have bought the cape for their own reasons. They just don't want the hassle to change capes as most players go to the Office as part of their farming routine. This aspect of the player experience is not being looked into. And yes, after 5 months of daily candle run it is tedious to put on and off the cape 🙂

What people don’t seem to get is that TGC is already putting out fires over people who paid money for an adventure pass who are seeing traveling spirits show up with items for candles/hearts that were once exclusively AP. If TGC just turns a blind eye to people glitching around the need for the office cape, that is only going to send a second message that players who ‘do things honestly’ are always shafted. The assumption seems to be that glitchers (who actually don't own the cape) present loss of revenue. How are these glitching players different from players whom you can legitimately bring in the Office? None of them guarantee IAP just because they get in the Office. If tgc wants to make it an exclusive area and only allow cape-holders in then the Office npc with the special cape shop should be standing outside the barrier. Players who already purchased it should be allowed in regardless of wearing it or not (game to recognize cape ownership).

To me, the office was an easter egg for the betas to experience a bit after launch to connect with the team a little, have some understanding of what has gone into the game development wise, and so on. it also presented an opportunity for betas (wearing the beta cape) to share with new players, something special. Whilst I've never been a huge fan of the office (because it's not part of the Sky world to me), I could see some of the beauty of it's own story, and some of the smaller stories inside. It saddens me to see that the team is losing so much time to gatekeeping this easter egg now. Perhaps the office would be best removed for most of the year, to reappear every now and again, perhaps with new chapters of it's own story. People (both old-timers like me and newer players) might respect the office more and what it represents then. At the moment, looking over the last 12 hours of chat here, the focus seems to be on candle farming and glitching, which seems contrary to what (to me) the office was about. just my 2c.

I like the idea of an easter egg like the office (not so much its disconnection with the rest of the game). It was really curious to take an actual look at how the TGC team works though. And I love the pool with the megabird on the water to access it.
The only thing I never fully understood about it is why the founder´s cape, an item to support TGC and get access to the office, was sealed in a hidden area behind a closed gate (now 2). Also, the most likely reason I can think of for not simply putting a closet is that the game can’t handle checking items on the fly and needs to reload the area for it to realize you are actually wearing the cape. That’s my theory for the vault not having a closet lol.

I added a suggestion for a spirit challenge a while ago similar which would open up an instrument, play some notes and the player has to copy to unlock the spirit, rather than a follow / carry quest.

from going through Eden. That message is about the golden seasonal candles with the 
icon converting to regular candles 
when a season concludes. Right now beta has a bug where that conversion message pops up every time you log in. It's a known bug, but since it doesn't break the game and isn't present in Live, it is a lower priority to address.
Dae, this is specifically regarding the latest build for iOS build 146575 that removes the black bars from the top and bottom of the screen. This only impacts iPads at this time. Aspect ratios on iPhone or Android did not receive any changes.

there was a scheduling error with one of the previous version (I believe 0.8.1) that had the wrong information in it, it was corrected in 0.8.2 and 0.8.3, but if players hadn't updated their game, they still had the old information on their device. That was our fault for not forcing an update between those patches and there was a ~15 hour window where players saw the wrong spirit.

If they bought the wing buff before updating, it'll show up as already unlocked when the spirit returns. You cannot buy the wing buffs repeatedly, so post-Global Launch players should all be caught up once this spirit arrives regardless if they nabbed 2 wing buffs last time the Traveling Spirit appeared.

It's possible, but unlikely. Like I said we have ways to manually intervene so that it is unlikely to occur.
It's random by design, there is no pattern to be discerned based on the couple spirits you've seen on live and/or beta, with the exception of the very first spirit.
Which is also why the traveling spirits did not cycle through on beta, the designers want it to be random and a surprise, with a little teasing on social media and in discord to generate hype and create a fun guessing game out of it.

I think Aviary and the wonderful function it served is basically incompatible with where the game has gone now, unless we replace “home” with it again. Aviary was just wonderful as a hub and a place of freedom. The game has become constraining and full of limits, perhaps to assist with the compromises that have come with Android.

Personally I don't see how this makes sense as people should be free to choose where in the game they prefer to be. And say after a day of farming aviary would be the perfect place to just sit back, meet up with friends and have a good time. I don't get that feeling anymore :/

Personally I’ve always mostly hung out with my friends in Home, because walking over to a specific area in the game usually takes too long and there was a big chance we would get disconnected on the way there, and there’s not many places I would consider sitting outside of home if none of us bring either a bonfire or a table so it’s not that much better than just sitting down at home and chilling on the spot
I think a better way to "bring back Aviary" is to turn each realm into their own kind of ‘themed’ Aviary where there’s tons of decorations and places to just sit down and chat, and yeah you can totally just sit down anywhere you want already but a lot of areas feel kind of empty so I usually don’t think it’s worth traveling anywhere if I want to sit down and chat with my friends

Watching older beta footage, I can't frankly see Avi as being more processor intensive than any other area of the game. Maybe a few months ago, it would of given older devices trouble. But any mid-range+ device new enough to be running a compatible version of Vulkan, would run it as well as any other level.
I can see it as a 50-100 mb addition to the game that, in development meetings, could be described as "not really part of the actual game"

This beta is all about the iPads issues so that I also want to point out that the joy stick on the two hand mode on iPads is way too big. It is very hard to control the character sometimes. If the black bar can be fixed, I hope one day the size of the joy stick would be the same across all devices regardless of their screen sizes. (Why the joy stick is way too big on iPads?)

Those toggles are a lot more complex to build than the letterbox toggle. I know both of those features are highly requested, but I'm unsure if or where they are in the backlog.

Usually if we're able to add something quickly it's because it is easy to implement without reworking code or breaking other things. More complex requests take time to develop, it's not that we won't ever do them. It's possible they may already be in the works for all we know. Other things may never be added because they don't fit the design vision for Sky.
With that said, please don't take our silence as an outright refusal, we may just need to take time to consider how to best implement something.

@vapid briar Yeah I know. It jut feels now that those reasons given at the time have all basically been voided. And it used to be so much better. Unfortunately for me the timing of most of your live streams and so on don’t work for me. Thing is last time I did take part was when I asked about the button thing and Jenova said in response to my query there that a more elegant solution would be done. Guess I have to remain patient. Just noticing that the flight mode thing is getting more buggy as we go.

An invisible cape sounds like a bad idea. To me this sounds contrary to the premise of the story introduced when the cape is first given. It I think would end up confusing new players and establish a true class of elites. Sky doesn’t need a class system. There’s enough discrimination in the real world. The beta cape is another example of this.

my only concern with making it really accessible is that it kind of breaks the aesthetic of the game, so it shouldn’t be something that lots of people wear (which they would if it was fairly accessible). it’s not worth it. it’s more of a joke item, or an easter egg, than anything else.

It's meant to be a silly item and prohibitively expensive, which is why there was a 99 Ascended Candle lock tied to it as well as the 999 Heart cost. Not having a cape and being able to fly is immersion breaking and exposes some of the rigging wonkiness of the skykid character model. For the time being, it is only a beta easter egg.

@empty inlet Someone in another Discord glitched under the island. It actually does hide underground and slide up when a blue cape arrives, however even though the portal itself exists under the arch, it still won’t actively transport w/o a blue cape.

Entered mid-part of Eden/Storm with three others, 2 friends one stranger. Their icons appear on screen way oob, and just stay there. 5mins+ and their icons are still there
It's like the server knows we're supposed to be in a level together, but it's not collapsing us together
This has happened 3/4 times I've tried to enter Storm Pt. 2 with others.
And I hate that 1/4 times it did work correctly!
That's the one thing stopping me from a good clean bug report
I know its them, the names appear above the icons when I port home and then resume the level.
And logs say, 6 in server 3 in level, so I know I'm in the level with those 3. And also 2 others not in my group in the level

tgc would be very happy that android players are willing to help debug the game, until they can give everyone around the world a pleasant experience in Sky, but for now they might want beta focusing on testing things, rather than providing different materials for players to enjoy. remember beta is implemented differently compare to live, it could be hard to take care of both

Not having traveling Spirits in beta is similar to why we end the season early, playing beta isn't meant to be a substitute for the live version of the game and content is not presented in a feature-complete state. The goal is to save players from themselves so they cannot get attached to content and progress that does not transfer to the live game.
I know having motivation to log into beta has been requested, but honestly gently discouraging players from burning themselves out on beta is done with the best of intentions.
